Completely new, but friendly looking. Enough surface area to convincingly provide a variety of read-outs etc. I will miss the marker pen, but I am here for the flip phone.
I really wasn't sure about this design when it debuted, but the fact it can fold up really won me over. That, plus the shape of it, let Ncuti hold it in a lot of different ways, so it works well when he's really expressing his movements.
That played into Gallifreyan culture, where these beings were so advanced, so evolved, that you didn't know where their technology ended and what seemingly looked like mysticism began. (Look at how the Time Lord Sisterhood was able to make literal regeneration potions for any 'role' imaginable (i.e. soldier, general, scientist etc.))
Honestly, I like that it now looks more practical. Like, the sonic was always just a stick with a glowy bit and somehow the Doctor knew how to read that all? Here it looks a lot more comprehensible.
I would have agreed with this up till the 60th specials, I was always puzzled how the sonic worked with no screen but when 14’s had the holographic interface that just made sense. The shape looks non practical to me but I suppose if I had pockets that were bigger on the inside it wouldn’t matter.
That is pretty much true. A screwdriver is designed so that it's ergonomic for when you're screwing things in. There's no need for it to be shaped like that if doesn't need to be manually rotated. If all you're doing is pointing it at things, this new design is actually better.
@@jordanreed3675 *_the third doctor occasionally used it to take readings_* Which stories? I don't recall him ever "taking a reading" from it. He didn't "scan for landmines" with it, he used it to set them off. The high-frequency vibrations trigger the mines.

Completly new Doctor, Tardis and even Sonic-Screwdriver which actually now looks more like a Sonic-Multi-Tool. :) It really feels like a new era of Doctor Who is upon us.

@dylanbyrne9597 it's a peice of alien technology, it doesn't have to look like a screwdriver, like seriously do you think the other sonics looked even remotely close to a screwdriver?
I like it! An alien screwdriver, i imagine, would look pretty different than an actual screwdriver. And I love the inclusion of the proverb. Very doctor-y and an awesome link to Ncuti. I'm excited to see it in action!
A radically new design helps separate out this "soft reboot" a little more, and it does look more comfortable to hold. Also, now I know how to pronounce Ncuti, having only seen it written down before, so that's nice.
The design is a little weird but it makes more sense for the new functionality we saw in the 60th to be paired with a weird new sonic. Also I love the proverb. That's so perfect for The Doctor. It usually takes me a few episodes to get used to a new Doctor but I'm already so pumped for 15.
So, I really didn't like this when I saw the promo photos. But now I've had Gatwa describe it to me, I now think it's great. That proverb is brilliant!
I always think stories & actions should have consequences… but on this one, nostalgic, anniversary occasion, I think we should all celebrate the decision to end things happy. The twist of ‘biregeneration’ was a result of The Doctor being so exhausted, he split into two to survive; his past self free to finally rest & his new self unburdened by the trauma that came before. For me, this is a genius move to reboot the show with a character no longer carrying the baggage of the last 20 years, very excited for Gatwa… he was stealing those scenes! As long as the writing decisions come from a ‘serving the show’ intention, to hell with the rules, rewrite them all & let’s have another brilliant 60 years 💙
It wasn't actually a split in the usual sense - They heavily implied 15 was the 14th doctor's future self with the whole "I'm only okay because YOU took a vacation, we're timelords. Doing your *rehab out of order* " Toymaker took 15 out of 14's worldline and dragged him into the past. The two TARDIS's are the exact same TARDIS at different points in time. The jukebox being there is meant to show that it isn't just a duplicate and that actual change did occur to get from A (14) to B (15), which is also indicated by 15 being confirmed to be older than 14.
I am not sure about Ncuti’s role as the doctor, but he’s a fantastic actor and he’s got a lot of personality, so I have faith that he’s got this in the bag.
When the 12th used the sonic sunglasses, it was great.... He even went back to using his sonic screwdriver afterwards, then they show up with this. I don't want to be a hater but "that one" shouldn't even be considered a sonic screwdriver.
Well, it definitely doesn't look anything like a screwdriver, but I do like it. Maybe they'll make a joke out of how much it's changed from its initial design but The Doctor still insists on calling it a screwdriver?
yea very true that people will go rabid about it but tbh the sonic screwdriver at least in modern who should of been renamed to magic wand since thats what it really looks likes so for this one to not look like a wand i think is better for now.

This new design is gonna take a LOT of getting used to. But i love the Rwandan proverb engraving!
That sounds SO like the Doctor
I think I’ll like this design. The other screwdrivers seemed more “human” than this one, which seems more “Gallifreyan.”
"The sharpness of the tongue always defeats the sharpness of the warrior." Which is why Malcolm Tucker can destroy a whole army of cybermen with his insults.
Marching around with your hoity toity metal inferno bstarstarstarstarstarstars, like that's supposed to be impressive?! You aren't fooling anyone. I tell you what's impressive, no you listen to me cyber controller, you arent fooling anybody, cos I know you right, I know who you are, just another tinpot dictator with a tin pot army, suppressed emotions, inhibitor chip. The problem you have with me right, sunshine you mincing metal see ya next Tuesday is I'm the opposite, I'm inhibited me old china until my anger blows and then you wouldn't like me when I'm angry. That's what's impressive is that I'm wasting energy talking to you when I could....Enough! Enoughity nuff. This stops here and it stops now or I'll be making my next set of gadgets out of your innards, your cybernetic entrails, make you actually useful for once.
It looks like Adam Sandler's remote in Click
Isn't that sharpness of the tongue thing basically the pen is mightier than the sword? Cause thats what it seems like
This is the least screwdriver-y sonic ever, I ADORE IT
Aside from the Sunglasses Capaldi was rockin
@@thezuccubusyeah because that was sunglasses not a screwdriver
Fu
@harryvideoz8863 specifically he called them "sonic specs"
No one adores this remote control
Completely new, but friendly looking. Enough surface area to convincingly provide a variety of read-outs etc. I will miss the marker pen, but I am here for the flip phone.
I really wasn't sure about this design when it debuted, but the fact it can fold up really won me over. That, plus the shape of it, let Ncuti hold it in a lot of different ways, so it works well when he's really expressing his movements.
I really like this new design. The sonic screwdriver look less like a magic wand and more like a piece of tech.
A literal universal remote.
I like that tennant got his own and this doctor got his own
I like that this one looks more like a scientific instrument than ever before
An definitely not water pistols
No it doesn’t it looks like a toy for babies
Well actually, the SS didn't always "take readings" like some Star Trek tricorder. That's a NuWho thing.
@@sixstanger00the third doctor occasionally used it to take readings but not by much mainly by scanning for land mines
@@jordanreed3675 *_the third doctor occasionally used it to take readings_*
Which stories? I don't recall him ever "taking a reading" from it.
He didn't "scan for landmines" with it, he used it to set them off. The high-frequency vibrations trigger the mines.
That thing looks wonderfully 70s and 90s future tech. I love it.
I will say that it does remind me of the universal remote control from Click 😅
This sonic screwdriver or sonic remote is very unique though! I do love how it has a purple crystal, kinda like Mace Windu's lightsaber from Star Wars! 🔥
It's so unique, I love how it's got that message on it, as if to remind him always to be a doctor
Completly new Doctor, Tardis and even Sonic-Screwdriver which actually now looks more like a Sonic-Multi-Tool. :) It really feels like a new era of Doctor Who is upon us.
It is the Sonic Allen Wrenches😅
Sonic Slate
I'm hoping this sonic grows on me as I'm not initially keen on the design, I do love the details about the Rwandan proverb and the "USB port" on it though. I just felt that they made such a fuss of introducing a new sonic for Tennant that only got 3 episodes of screen time before creating a new design for Gatwa.
Insanely cool redesign. Love the integration of Ncuti's heritage in the design too
It’s a unique design, I’ll give it that.
It almost looks like the remote from the Adam sandler movie click
That proverb is so good. Oh that's so good. Just perfect for the doctor.
The new sonic has a very retro future toyetic vibe. It works.
I hate to be the "um actually guy" but a sonic screwdriver isn't "Gallifreyan Technology" as shown by Jack Harkness with his sonic blaster. During that time, the time war was locked.
What a perfect proverb for the Doctor. This sonic is surprisingly different looking, but it does seem like it would be more ergonomic.
The sharpness of the tongue defeats the sharpness of the warrior, if the warrior is unarmed and non hostile.
Wow, that’s different! I like it already :D
Looks like it has lots more capabilities with previous designs, seeing as it has more controls and surface area.

Love it, I love that inscription too, not only does it call back to Ncuti's heritage but it's perfect for the Doctor's MO in how he deals with his enemies :)
It shouldn't be about the actor's heritage. It should be about the character the actor is portraying.
@@racheljames7 Would you have the same reaction is David Tennant or Peter Capaldi had something on their sonics that translated to something from Robert burns?
@@enikata7349yes... yes I would, if David tennants Scottishness had a play in the development of the doctor I'd be skeptical of it....
Well, for a long time it has been slowly turning into the sonic tricorder.
I love that Fifteen's sonic incorporates Ncuti's heritage. That's wonderful. 🥰
I love it the it disregards the old Doctors. it's a new series and a younger new Doctor. Change is good my dears.
@MsTimelady71 it doesn't disregard the old doctors tho?
@@kadegetslaid634yes it does it's called a sonic SCREWDRIVER that does not look like a f****** screwdriver well done Russell T Davies you may not killed the doctor but you did bury him it was a good run but Doctor Who officially ended with Matt Smith or Peter Capaldi for those of you who liked him as the doctor
@dylanbyrne9597 it's a peice of alien technology, it doesn't have to look like a screwdriver, like seriously do you think the other sonics looked even remotely close to a screwdriver?
@@kadegetslaid634 no but they still looked like a damn screwdriver what's this meant to be because it's not a f****** sonic screwdriver
More of a sonic remote than a screwdriver but it still looks pretty cool.
That’s not a Sonic Screwdriver, is a bloody Tricorder.
Love this. It is a sonic remote screwdriver and the proverb is brilliant.
I like it! An alien screwdriver, i imagine, would look pretty different than an actual screwdriver. And I love the inclusion of the proverb. Very doctor-y and an awesome link to Ncuti. I'm excited to see it in action!
Ahhh. Alons-y... I see what you did there...
My man be running around with a Star Trek phaser bought off of Wish.
A radically new design helps separate out this "soft reboot" a little more, and it does look more comfortable to hold. Also, now I know how to pronounce Ncuti, having only seen it written down before, so that's nice.
Very interesting and unique design, might take some getting used to but hey, change is a big part of this show!
The new sonic screwdriver looks more like a sonic remote control. “What are you gonna do to those guys, turn them on?”
Definitely one of the most unique looking sonics, I’ll give them that.
its a very nice sonic screwdriver
That’s not a screwdriver that’s a remote
After seeing it in the show it’s really grown on me x
The design is a little weird but it makes more sense for the new functionality we saw in the 60th to be paired with a weird new sonic. Also I love the proverb. That's so perfect for The Doctor.
It usually takes me a few episodes to get used to a new Doctor but I'm already so pumped for 15.
I love how each new Sonic Screwdriver is bigger than the last one.
Hmmm... Idk 😅 this one seems shorter but at least it's got girth 🤣
You're never gonna get bigger than 11s
And somehow it’s now looking even more like a “personal massage device” than ever before
@@joanieboucher6112
It really does look like that 🤣 The grocery/drugstores sell adult massage devices nowadays... So really
That's Adam Sandler's remote from "Click".
I was VERY skeptical about this at first, but (as I expected) hearing Ncuti talk about it (and the Rwandan proverb!) really won me over.
"Powered by a crystal. A purple one..."
As scientifically accurate as any scifi crystal technology gets.
That looks like the universal remote from Click
So, I really didn't like this when I saw the promo photos. But now I've had Gatwa describe it to me, I now think it's great. That proverb is brilliant!
Foe once it doesn't look like a screwdriver! And what a good proverb to have on there. The Doctor has always had a sharp tongue. Thank you Ncuti!
It should be called the sonic tv remote. It made sense to call it a sonic screwdriver cause it was the size and shape of one now its a tv remote size
As long as the writing decisions come from a ‘serving the show’ intention, to hell with the rules, rewrite them all & let’s have another brilliant 60 years 💙
This is a brilliant explanation
It wasn't actually a split in the usual sense - They heavily implied 15 was the 14th doctor's future self with the whole "I'm only okay because YOU took a vacation, we're timelords. Doing your *rehab out of order* "
Toymaker took 15 out of 14's worldline and dragged him into the past.
He's a giant fruit...bat 🤫😏
Afraid to say you don’t like him because of his race too? Just like many others. Sheep.
Jesus christ, he's gonna be my favorite, isn't he?
Very sci fi. Can't wait to add it and the 14ths to my Sonic collection.
I need this as a Character options Toy Right now!
Same, I need it!
i would buy it as soon as it come out XD
That's not a sonic screwdriver, it's a sonic TV remote.
Imagine if they did a callback to Tennant at some point. Like “I wonder how he’s doing now” and it cuts to him for like 10 seconds.
I hope not just leave him behind already
No, let him rest.
I am in love with the new musical theme for Ncuti’s Doctor ❤
I like that etching on it. It's fitting for The Doctor, really. He's someone with a sharp tongue who's defeated equally sharp warriors.
The new sonic will be as reliable as the old versions, it's full of Mickey Mouse Technology
He can summon all the Mousekatools of the episode with it.
When the 12th used the sonic sunglasses, it was great....
He even went back to using his sonic screwdriver afterwards, then they show up with this.
I don't want to be a hater but "that one" shouldn't even be considered a sonic screwdriver.
So after all these years, we finally got a Sonic screwdriver in the shape of a remote.
Well, it definitely doesn't look anything like a screwdriver, but I do like it. Maybe they'll make a joke out of how much it's changed from its initial design but The Doctor still insists on calling it a screwdriver?
I love that. I hope that's the direction they take.
Ooooh, The Feather is mightier than the sword kind of quote, love it!
That's not a sonic screwdriver, that's the remote from click
People are going to rabidly hate this but I kinda love how different it is (& the engraving is so cool)
yea very true that people will go rabid about it but tbh the sonic screwdriver at least in modern who should of been renamed to magic wand since thats what it really looks likes so for this one to not look like a wand i think is better for now.
No way they got my man the Click (2006) Universal Remote
This sonic device is verry detailed. I retreat my words about him. Its q great piece for this doctor.
How many days until Christmas? Too many , Ncuti will be Fantastic
