What's not often talked about is just how many similar caves with neolithic paintings inside them can only be accessed using diving gear. There are many of these caves, predating modern humans, that were flooded at the end of the last ice age.

The debate Godless Engineer had with Kent Hovind was one of the saddest things I've ever seen. John seems like a decent guy, and he makes some good content from what I've seen, but debate is not one of his strengths. It was painful to watch that con-man Hovind walk all over him. It's a shame to lose a debate when all the facts are on your side, especially to a snake-oil salesman who hasn't come up with any new material in 20 years.
The one to check out is Aron's debate with Kent. Aron didn't let him pull any of his shit and held his feet to the fire for actual answers. Kent was beaten so bad he decided he wouldn't debate him in person again even after saying he would at the end of the debate. After that they agreed to a back and forth video debate, and that was absolute gold. I highly recommend checking out at least Aron's reply videos as he replays Kent's comments anyway. Godless Engineer should have taken notes.

The Adam & Eve story is really the story of the creation of the Jewish people.
This explains why other people just show up later in the story with no explanation of where they came from.
Christians later, altered & adopted it's interpretation, to become the story of "humanities" creation.

    • @69eddieD
      @69eddieD 2 ปีที่แล้ว

None of the stories in the OT were meant to be taken literally. It's stupid to interpret them as anything but allegorical. Many stories are blatant plagiarisms. And in the NT Jesus is an obvious plagiarism of Horus.

    • @moodyrick8503

@@69eddieD Yeah, obviously I know that they are not real.
But hundreds of millions of people believe this shit.

      *Curious;*
Show me where & how you surveyed the writers of the OT. to come to this absolute certainty about them knowing that the stories were not actually true.
And _the fact that you are convinced,_ of the NT's plagiarism, is irrelevant to all of the devout believers that accept it.
There is no single Christian view to attack, _that will apply to them all,_ as they believe all kinds of contradictory stuff.
*Without some kind of logical argument to back it up, they will simply dismiss you, as you have dismissed them.*

@@moodyrick8503 I agree with you. I hate to stoop to apologetics but here it is.
(I'm guessing you're playing Devil's advocate) My position is not one of certainly but parsimony. Rabbis have always spoken in parables. OT stories like Noah's Ark are obvious plagiarisms (Gilamesh). So why after the Council of Nicea (and even more so after the Protestant Reformation) did we all of a sudden start taking these obvious allegories as literal, in the face of all logic and reason? The obvious reason is that Christianity is bogus. It is an instrument of control, and it was designed to be an instrument of control.

I don't claim to be an expert on how the versions that we have today were stitched together.
I was just pushing back on your claim of knowing that *"none of the OT was meant to be taken literally".*
There is no way to know what they actually believed was literal truth or fable.
_No way to confirm that assumption._
And _I'm not saying that you are claiming this,_ but I don't believe that Christianity was created to gain power & control over people.
Creation myths & stories are humanities attempt to explain their world before science existed.
Some were genuinely sincere, wishful & hopeful and some delusional or desperate, and of course some were simple scoundrels.
Con men looking to victimise those that exercise _"blind faith for God",_
I do suspect there are more religious con men today on average then in the past, just because there are far more non believers than ever.
And of course the Catholic church's criminal facilitation & protection of pedophiles is an obvious example of religious hypocrisy.
_Protecting the image above all else._
Fear of change, fear of doubt, fear of God & fear of the devil is the real glue & rope that ties Christianity together.

@@moodyrick8503 "There is no way to know what they actually believed was literal truth or fable.

Agreed, but parsimony points towards allegory.
"And I'm not saying that you are claiming this, but I don't believe that Christianity was created to gain power & control over people." Before the Council of Nicea, people had different beliefs about Jesus. The Council of Nicea (you know the Nicean Creed right?) standardized doctrine and the early Church enforced it. That is control.
And it's not even controversial that the "King James Bible" was edited to support the power of King James.
"Con men looking to victimise those that exercise "blind faith for God"" That's all religion, but especially the Catholic Church.
"And of course the Catholic church's criminal facilitation & protection of pedophiles is an obvious example of religious hypocrisy.
Protecting the image above all else." I was raised Catholic and without a doubt it is the creepiest institution on the face of the earth. Absolutely shocking and repulsive. Plus when the priest tries to diddle you there's no one you can go to, because no one will believe you. Yes this happened to me but I knew better than to tell anyone. THAT is the mindfuck called Catholicism.

I was too young to even understand religion when I discovered that it was a deception of some kind. I could tell something wasn't kosher by the way adults talked about it. But I still didn't understand what it was - only that everyone was lying to me, and they were all in on it together. I neither believed in god nor disbelieved, nor even thought about the question at that age.
I remember losing trust in my parents and other adults because of that. All I knew was that they were all lying to me. If I had a shrink, I'm pretty sure we'd spend the first 20 sessions on that.
Religion's bad, mkay? Stop scaring children. Stop lying to people.

I’m sorry for your experience. It really breaks my heart that you didn’t have walking Christians around you to show you why we believe and why we follow Christ.
The questions you must ask are:
1.) Are the claims Jesus made about himself true?
      2.) Is God real?
3.) What is the meaning of life?
Christianity is unique in that we are not ‘forced’ to do good to be saved for our sins. As it says in Ephesians:
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
      ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2:8-10‬ ‭NIV‬‬
      www.bible.com/111/eph.2.8-10.niv
Walking Christians try to be more like Jesus as a way to say ‘thank you’, to give as he gave, to love as he loved, because he paid the debt of our sins by taking the punishment onto himself.
It’s a blessed thing too, for if the truth was like other religions and works-based, then no-one would be good enough to achieve salvation themselves. It’s a blessed thing that we are given it freely. We need only to let Jesus stand and testify for us...and believe that he has taken our sin from us.
I’m sorry you had such bad experiences growing up with those who professed Christianity. Love, prayer, and hope to you

@@ngif1736 No, they were nice people and "good Christians." The problem was it isn't true, and on some level you know it too, and that leads to pretzel logic and deception, and I could feel it when I was too young to spell the words.

I’m glad they were nice people, but I say earnestly to you that it IS true, brother.
I have come to know God myself and believe in his real-ness more than anything.
Through his grace I was saved. A sinner like me who did not deserve it. I couldn’t possibly tell you all he has done for me.
But I promise you, it is not a lie. God is real and he wants to know you too. He wants a personal relationship with you.
“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.””
      ‭‭John‬ ‭8:12‬ ‭NIV‬‬
I know you may not listen much to me, a random person on TH-cam, and that’s ok for I am just passing the message, but I urge you. If ever you question yourself, if ever you’re not sure that this material world is all there is, if you feel that yearning that there has to be more, take that moment to humble yourself and ask God into your life. Ask Jesus to take your sins upon himself and make you free. He will change your life in ways you couldn’t imagine.
(May be slowly, May be all at once. But if you seek him earnestly, you will find him).
No works required, no nothing. Just by believing in Jesus Christ you will be saved forever.
“Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
      ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭29:12-13‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Good show. Derrick is so optimistic - read Straw Dogs by Gray. I realized at an early age I would not want to create new people. If you think about it from a moral perspective, it becomes much more complicated. I think David Benatar does a good job laying out the antinatalist position in his book Better Never To Have Been. The argument is basically that the best way to protect people from causing and experiencing suffering is to not create them in the first place.

Oh no. Slavery today is not wage slavery. It is forced work. It is prevalent in cities where people are smuggled in usually but not always from other countries. These people work for good and board to keep them alive. Not to keep them happy. They are in nail bars, cannabis farms, regular farms and domestic service (Most often. And of course not all these types of places) In some areas of the world slaves are worked to death. Slave labour built some of the finest cities in he Middle East. These people do not earn a wage. Or money of any sort. Sex slavs are often controlled by drugs and die under the influence.

Modern slaves are in most part worse off than many earlier slaves in that they are hidden from view.. many are not enslaved because of their poverty. They maybe sold by their families or given to pay debt in the family or tricked by fake contracts. They are beaten. Domestic slaves are frequently beaten. These are not low paid workers. There are even slave markets in parts of North Africa. There have been cases of slavery in Britain. There are car washes exploiting refugees. These workers are not paid. They get at best a bed in an over crowed unsafe slum and enough food to keep the alive to work. They don't even get adequate clothing. There are people licked into houses to grow cannabis they are only discovered if the police said the place. Most are terrified. And yes they do get beaten. May I suggest some topics that might be interesting..?
How about a strong argument for an afterlife.. ?
Or everything that exists.. particles.. waves.. even universes.. ( multiverse is logical) .. including consciousness.. is simply field activity taking place in an Infinite Field of Energy.. that I call - THE PRIMARY FIELD.. The evidence in physics is over-whelming.. when we add together everything they are saying.. FIELDS ARE THE WAY FORWARD..
Also.. I created a large document the takes a close look at what the word GOD means to different people.. it was intended to be a debating tool.. so I could quickly find the arguments that best suit my purpose.. but it also served as a good teaching aid.. Lifting quotes from many diverse sources and comparing them.. looking for patterns..
I made the discovery.. that many atheists can not tell the difference between the definition of God.. and Nature..
I didn't like the dictionary definition of GOD so I created my own.. it's rather long.. but I love detail... This definition was inspired by Richard Feyman quotes.. of how wonderful nature was.. and he sounded like he was taking about GOD.. I found that interesting..
This is what emerged.. God.. (or NATURE).. is the Sum of ALL Natural Processes - The Ground of ALL Being - Omnipresence, the Supreme.. or Ultimate.. Reality. The Creative and Controlling Force in the Universe - The Life Force - The Force regarded as causing and regulating the Phenomena of the World by the Universal Natural Laws - God is both Outside.. and Inside.. Space-Time. Not subject to the cycle of Birth and Death - The Ultimate, the Absolute, Infinite and Eternal….. ENERGY and FORCE…
The word - GOD or NATURE - functions as a SYMBOL.. representing.. the underlying Unity.. and.. or.. as a METAPHOR.. representing a personification of a Motivating Power.. of a Value System.. that functions in Human Life.. and in the Universe. The Force.. and Energy.. that supports the World - A personification of the Energy.. or Force.. that seems to regulate the Physical Universe - An anthropomorphic idea whose dynamism.. and symbolism.. are filtered through the medium of the psyche..
COULD ANY ONE PROVIDE EVIDENCE THAT THIS FORCE DOES NOT EXIST?
I did not see anything on philosophical idealism among your up-loads.. but I could be wrong.. it is an interesting topic.. that has strong support in physics.. and will soon be more widely accepted...
I am getting very old.. and my brain is crumbling into dust... so my words are rushing to get out as fast as they can.. like the crew of a sinking ship.. so my spirit lives on.. and remains in the world.. when I am gone.. in my writings..
The body may die but the mind can live on.. as long as it remains interesting.. and may even be reincarnated.. by merging with other living minds (see attached video link). Reincarnation would make an interesting topic.. Many misunderstand it.. so I created a document of Buddha's teaching to clear the matter up.. it is not what most people think it is..
Words are like genes that carry information forward in time.. so it is preserved.. the MIND of Socrates.. the MIND of CHRIST.. they live on in their words.. This is what Buddha meant..
To quote Buddha's.. thoughts on reincarnation.. and.. I think his words clarify a lot..

“There is no evidence of the existence of an immutable ego-being, of a self which remains the same and migrates from body to body. There is rebirth but no transmigration.
The ideas which I think, came to me partly from others who thought them, and partly they rise from combinations of the ideas in my mind.
Those who have used the same sense-organs, and have thought the same ideas before I was composed into this individuality of mine ARE MY PREVIOUS EXISTENCES; they are my ancestors.
    "Is all teaching in vain?
Do you not understand that those others.. are you yourself ?

“The combination of thy sankharas is thy self. Wheresoever they are impressed upon.. there your self migrates.”
"The self to which you cling to is a constant change.”
"There is rebirth of character, but no transmigration of a self. Thy thought-forms reappear, but there is no ego-entity transferred. Only through ignorance and delusion do men indulge in the dream that their souls are separate and self-existent entities.”
"There is rebirth without the transmigration of a self. For this atman, this self, this ego in the 'I say' and in the 'I will' is an illusion.”

"Our thinking is gone, but our thoughts continue.
    Reasoning ceases, but knowledge remains."
“It is as if the writing has been finished and the light has been put out..

But the letter is still there.”

"Verily, I say unto thee, thy mind is spiritual.”

It's not about whether or not you need religion to be a good person. You don't. Atheists can be good people. In that aspect, the Secular Humanists are correct. However, when it comes self-sacrifice - like going to prison for the sake of justice, I think you do need religion for that - or at least faith in a higher power. I can run off a whole bunch of names like Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., Dorothy Day, Fr. Dan Barrigan, Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel, Thich Nhat Hanh....(and my list could go on) - all of whom have been to prison for justice. I can't think of one self-proclaimed athiest who has done likewise. Peace activist, Fr. Stephen Kelly has spent nearly 35 years of his life in prison fighting for justice, how many atheists can make the same claim?
I believe all human beings are primarily born as good people. People have an innate sense of morality. However, being a good person isn't good enough to fix the world, is it? if it were the world would be a wonderful peaceful place with no poverty, cruelty, and murder. We need something to push us to become better than our innate goodness which is so easily compromised and rationalized away. That is what religious/spiritual paths are for - to help us become better than who we are naturally.
Some will rightly claim that religion has also been the cause for much suffering. And that is true. However, every religion has a positive path and a negative path. The path of the fundamentalist is the negative path that leads to suffering. The path of the mystic is the positive path that leads people to become better people.

This is a correlation rather than relation. Those people care about what they fight for and happen to be religious (mainly because being religious is the norm and still the norm). The fact of the matter is human are altruistic to groups and people they care about and, honestly, anyone that finds themselves in a place where they need to defend their in group will do it. Fr. Stephen Kelly has sacrificed nearly 30 years of his life in prison for non-violently fighting for justice - and not for people in his "in-group" - but for strangers. How many atheists can claim the same?

    • @adeyemi120
      @adeyemi120 ปีที่แล้ว

@@jflaugher my point still stands as atheists are still a minority. Until recently (and I mean 80s) atheism was still seen as evil and heretical. Ok, if you don’t accept Philip Randolph, then look up Madalyn Murray O'Hair

    • @adeyemi120
      @adeyemi120 ปีที่แล้ว

You also have to realize that as a whole, religion is actively harming people and used to harm people. Your claim is also like saying that religion is needed to actively be evil in this world as Genghis Khan, hitler (not an atheist despite what Christians say), and saddam Hussain are some of the most evil in the world and they were religious. However, this is a correlation and actively not true. Religion isn’t needed to be altruistic, you just have to care a lot about a cause.
