Far in the distance, three colossal shapes tower over the desert horizon…
In this episode, we travel to the Nile Valley, and tell the story of one of the most iconic cultures ever produced by humankind - the civilizations of ancient Egypt. I want to show how this series of related cultures grew up in the floodplains of their great river, and built some of the most enduring and recognizable structures in the world. And I want to tell the story of what happened to bring the age of the Pharaohs finally and cataclysmically to an end.

I'm a Historian myself and I absolutely love this channel. As a blind person, I particularly enjoy the little sound effects here and there, thunderstorms, waterfalls, people marching through the desert... it really transports me through time into that world. There's another history-related channel I really enjoy called Geschichtsfenster. That guy focuses on the European Middle Ages, especially the HRE. His episodes are always very specific and go into great detail. For example he can easily spend 2 hours talking about the diet of peasants or women's fashion in late medieval Germany. By contrast, Paul takes the bird's eye approach, covering millennia and thousands of square kilometers in a single episode. Paul's videos are also very refined, using professional voice actors etc., while Andrej from Geschichtsfenster basically just presents sources and lectures without much editing, so it feels like sitting in an university seminar. Both styles have their charme in my opinion and I like to switch back and forth between them because they complement each other so well.

The Greenland Vikings, Roman Britain and Carthage wander through my mind periodically. I’m glad to read this is something that’s shared with others. It’s surely a sign of the masterful manner with which these stories are regaled.
Dude, this is a master work. Incredible. Egypt is a romantic topic and I knew you would need to basically cover all the mini-apocalypses those civilizations experienced. It would not be enough to simply cover the very end. Thank you for all the hard work you put into this, not just the script, but the little touches in the sounds and mastering it properly so I wasn't struggling to hear you. I completely agree with this OP. The podcasts and videos of Fall Of Civilizations are without a doubt the highest quality of all that exist. I'm proud that I was 1 of the first to say this, and I'm very glad so many others have joined me. It would grieve me greatly if Paul wasn't getting the credit he is due, so I'm SO very glad that he is being credited as the Master that he is!
I can't wait for him to finish the video of this one, but that will take a LOT of time. That's ok though, because it takes time to create the masterpeices that are Paul's hallmark. I'll be so excited to see it, when it comes, so the waiting will be hard, but it will be so worth it!

It's the weight of the stories told here, the countless lives of the people who lived these histories, it's too deep for words really. The poems at the end always capture that sense so well though.

The writing of "Egypt: Fall of the Pharaohs" podcast is completely amazing. It is so clear and compelling that once I started listening I was happily hooked! That meticulous research went into making this presentation is obvious. Ancient hieroglyphics are given new life through dramatic readings, while the narrator provides a concise and interesting discourse on this fascinating period in human history.
I have listened to and enjoyed several other "Fall of Civilization" podcasts and they are all wonderful. But there is something special about this one... perhaps it is the glamour of ancient Egypt and its bygone pharaohs. I just know it is an excellent production and source of information. Many thanks to the creator for his hard work, creativity and commitment to historical accuracy.

This channel produces the finest historical content on any medium available today. I have not found any programming more compelling, interesting, informative and entertaining anywhere ever.

Words forgotten, but the human connection remain. I always love this channel for the way you weaved history into a relatable narrative. It really helps drive home that these aren't just names and dates in a book, but people who once lived.
Sometimes left to wonder how those talented, often doomed poets & artists can hit me in the chest and freeze me before their utterly perfect phrases, songs, expressions. That poet was tapped into the wavelength, no doubt.
This is, by far, the best channel on TH-cam. It blows my mind that you make this content available to people for free. These are such important stories. I really can't put into words how amazing these videos are.

Egypt always keeps me in awe. A civilization ancient even by the standards of other ancient societies like Rome and Greece. It truly is mind-boggling how far back that land's history stretches 😊
Cleopatra is closer in time to us, than she is to those who built the pyramids. It’s an incomprehensible span of time.

Best thing about this Podcast series is the level of interest it evokes about the civilization it covers. While it doesn't go into the details, the fantastically (almost always emotionally) presented overview guarantees the listener to research more and reach for those academic journals and books.

The timelines of Ancient Egypt blow my mind. It was ancient by the time the Greeks and Romans came around. Cleopatra is closer to us in time than the Great Pyramids were to her.
This guy makes hands down my favorite history content across all media. Every time a new episode drops it makes my day (or maybe a couple days, depending on how long it takes me to finish the episode)

The part about poor Snefru trying to build his pyramid but it keeps copllapsing or sinking into the ground reminded me of that Monty Python scene where the guy keeps trying to build a castle in the swamp. "The third one burned down, fell over, and THEN sank into the swamp! But the fourth one... the FOURTH one STAYED UP!"
Listening to Spotify today at work, and a fall of civilizations episode starts playing… I think wth, Spotify doesn’t replay old episodes that have already been played. Then I looked at it and said… “18? There’s no way that’s new” and I am visibly shocked that this dropped today. Hopefully it won’t be years to listen to another of these masterpieces. I am lucky that I found these when there was already 17 in the catalog available to binge. Thanks Paul cooper for one of my most cherished podcasts that gets me through a tough work day out in the world.
