"Gareth, why are we going left?" "Well, a combination of p-factor, spiralling slipstream and gyroscopic precession." "And..?" "Got my foot on the left pedal."
This is the kind of instructor every pilot should start out with: someone who you have fun with in the air. The ones who make it fun are the ones who keep pilots coming back for more. I've known (and flown with) CFIs who seemed to have a rod up their butt and they made it anywhere from boring to frustrating or intimidating. When flying with someone like that, all I wanted to do was get back on the ground be done with the flight.
One super short note: Once the nose touched down on the last landing he pushed the yoke back in and then got rid of flaps and then pulled the yoke back (to continue bleeding off airspeed). Be careful with that! If you're intending to use aerodynamic braking, keep the pressure back on the yoke until the speed dies down AND THEN get rid of flaps. There's a small margin of airspeed where pulling back on the yoke too early will pop you back up in the air and that's not something fun to mess with. It's a small detail but can be a sketchy situation if not done in the safe and proper order. Just something to watch for! Overall looks great!
Welcome to the sky is a little sluggish today due to density altitude.......and flaps!! 🤣. That was absolutely awesome. I have not laughed so hard in a long time. I can see a new t-shirt coming 😀.
I mean that is just a real classic comedy moment. I loved that Lewis cut in a camera angle of the flaps obviously still deployed before Gaz tried to explain why the thing was refusing to climb. I think ‘Density Altitude’ is gonna be your new nickname Gareth 🤣🤣 Congrats on passing your check ride though!👍
These practice area names give me PTSD... I'm a Riddle grad. Oh the nightmares of those practice areas. KC-135R USAF Pilot meow. Big fan 🤙 I heard that 492ER call.. Yikes 🙃
I am not sure if you both remind me of The Two Ronnies or is it Morecambe & Wise? 😂 Either way you make for a great couple or should I say duo 👯♂️🤣. Always good to watch a bit of 'flappage'. With my CAA SEP rating is well and truly expired and I will need to brush up on all of this so great to see you execute it with a bit of panache 😎
I've been so guilty of not raising flaps that on a short 30 miles cross county to meet a friend, I noticed they were at 10%(when in the pattern)like I set them previously for takeoff. I made it, no harm done and this forced me to use my checklist more. Be sure to share an update if he passed/failed his check ride.
Density altitude. In Orlando. Man I laughed hard at that. It didn’t help that the video foreshadowed it showing the flaps still down in the previous shot
Hey Lew your student looks great. My only concern is that he's not really outside the cockpit like I feel he should (yes my opinion). I like to see my students when doing those maneuvers to really look outside the cockpit and looking for traffic. Checking left window and sweeping to the right while verifying position with instruments. Again, just my opinion and how I teach.
The number of times your students forget to retract or extend flaps is a little startling. Fortunately they have an awesome instructor who doesn't beat them up about it. Great job instructing! Just out of curiosity so I can try it in the sim, what is your soft field rotation speed?
LMAO. Luckily don’t have to pull the recording on this one........ Are you alright, really quiet...... Just be a pilot man.....do what pilots do.... I am doing what pilots do..... Just be a pilot man..... What the f@#$ are you talking about 🤣 Don’t overthink anything....just do your normal shit..... I’m waiting to see if you do something...... That’s off, that’s full rich, that’s off, that’s off, that’s off, within 10 miles landing lights..... Sound like an approach briefing to me 😀 Awesome video!! Great job on your PPL Gareth!!
the amount of times i forgot to retract flaps and wondering why my climb performance was shit made the start of the video so much funnier LMAO
You already know it's gonna be a good video when these two are flying together

Student pilot from Massachusetts here. Absolutely love your videos. Always make my day and help me with training.
Glad to hear it! Thank you!
Congrats Gareth!

Congratulations Gareth and well done Lewis. Great instructing and needless to say, a great video!
Well done! I'll have my PPL checkride in April (hopefully). This will be a great review!
Congrats Gareth!!!!
Gareth doing superb as always :)
Man I love these vids! I wish I had an instructor like you..good times all round
Amazing good landings!!! Well done, Sir. Lewis, nice job! Once again!
He was really convinced the Density Altitude was hindering the climb 😂
I mean it’s hot so it was in a way... but so we’re the flaps 😂
Fun video to watch. I have yet to forget my flaps, but everyone says it'll happen eventually haha. Thanks for sharing!
I have for got the. Yep, Made that mistake.

YOU effers!!! Im laughing my ars off!!! and your FLAPS!
Best part was being able to see the flap in the video while the question was being asked.
😆😆 agreed.
That was some thoughtful editing 😆
Congrats Gareth
Congratulations 👏!
This genuinly made me laugh, fun vid!

Lol, yea sometimes Flaps do that. 😄😄

Ahhh to be back in a piper...
Nice Brazilian shirt 😃, and great content as usual.
Obrigado!
Hope all is well, was wondering what flight school this is?
I’m such an idiot 😂

I had a laugh at the density altitude part. Congrats too!!
Dont blame yourself, it 's not your fault:-) just kidding

@LewDix What school do you train at?
Can I still be able to get my 1 class medical if my vision can only be corrected to 20/25?
So what's the difference between FLY STRAIGHT OUT and FLY RUNWAY HEADING?
Student pilot here going into Lesson 7.... seeing those flaps down I thought “f*ck, have I been taking off wrong this whole time?”

What is he rotating by the heading indicator? I’ve never seen that before.
You mean the heading bug? It's just an indicator to help you keep track of your desired heading.
Always think someone is blowing out a big hit when your intro starts
So, the knob was being a bit of a knob? Isn't that, in fact, the very *job* of a knob? 😛

Wait so was it a bit when he was calling into your livestream or was he really studying for his checkride?
😂 I mean he thought he could put Jet A in a cherokee to go faster............

It's sad that we will never see Lewdix and Gareth together again. He doesn't need you anymore. 😢

@@JoshuaSobel yeah man, I figured. I was trying to get a Lewdix reaction. Mission accomplished, so my day is complete now. 😉
Oh, this is definitely not the last time you’ll see us together. We’ll be doing other things, for sure.
Have done that so many times leaving the flaps up and you know your instructor is hinting at something dumb you missed..
id pay 10000 an hour to have such an instructor
