Good meeting Joe. I hope things work out for Gift!
Thank you 🙏
Loved the rambling, Joe. 😀I'm so looking forward to retiring there next year. Be well.
Thank you 🙏 and congratulations on your future retirement to Thailand 🇹🇭
Good morning Joe from Texas, glad Gift Mom doing great and spending time with her family have a great time on ya trip!😎👍🏼
🙏
G'day Joe and Gift, thanks for the video. Hope you are both doing well.
Thank you 🙏
Great video Joe! Hope everything will go smoothly for Gift’s visa! Cannot wait to watch your next video 😊
Thank you 🙏 so much!
HI Joe & Gift Another great video Glad to hear that Gift is having a great time with her family and really hope that she gets the visa so that the both of you can enjoy your Europe trip.
Again thank you for sharing
Thank you 🙏 so much!
Lovely peaceful walks, thanks.
Glad to see you enjoying our beautiful weather. I’ve been retired here in Chiang Mai for about 8 months - best decision I have ever made!! It is a shame that the Thai people have challenges getting visas to foreign countries (in my situation, my wife’s son might never have an opportunity to visit the US because his mom is married to me). I just completed my taxes / FBAR / Fatca - it was all very painless. All the best to you and Gift!!
Thank you 🙏 for sharing.
Been to that part of town a couple times and it was quiet too. Beautiful scenery !
Be positive Joe all will work out for you both , enjoy your trip , make the most of it .🙏🙏
🙏
Looks fantastic down there by the sea Joe. Love these videos where you wander around discussing stuff with us viewers
Thanks Ricky, I just watched your latest video with your adorable baby girls. You are doing an awesome job as a single parent. BTW, that spaghetti Bolognese looked delicious.
Great video injoy watching and listening on what you have to say. 😁👍📹
Thank you 🙏 so much!
Good video Joe!
Thank you 🙏
Hey Joe, thanks for the update on Gifts visa.
You do live in the most beautiful areas of Thailand, stunning.
My pleasure 😇
Hi Joe and Gift - I was in Prachuap a week ago and really loved it too! What a quaint and charming town 😊
Good Video Joe and Gift 😊.
Keep the video's comin.
Stay Safe 💕 💞 🙏 🙏
Thank you 🙏
Always enjoy your videos, Joe, entertaining and real, it's why I continue to watch them. Hope all goes well with Gift's visa for Italy, will be fun to see your travels there, too. Enjoy a late Valentine's Day when Gift returns, she's a special lady for sure and I enjoy your videos together. Stay Healthy, Happy and Safe as always.
🙏
You are so right on where you live being peaceful. I know this from experience. Living the dream! I think I would like to retire there soon. Great video, Joe. Good health goals too, mate. I want to get back down to 82kg.
🙏
I really enjoyed this vlog! My boys are graduating this year and I have my trips planned. Im going to New Orleans, taking the boys on a cruise as a graduation gift, Dominican Republic, and Guatemala. My husband and I were going to Italy and Paris in May for 3 weeks to celebrate our 15 year anniversary. However there is so much going on in May. So we postponed our trip until next year.
Thank you 🙏 congratulations to you, your husband and your boys. Sorry to hear that you had to cancel your trip to Europe for your anniversary. I’m sure that you will reschedule and have an awesome time when you guys do get to go.
Thanks Joe for the video, keep enjoying life to the fullest. Heading to Ubon on the 2nd to take my sister in law over to take care of some property business.
My pleasure! Safe travels!
Hi hope you and Gift are OK love. Hope your got the visas soon 🙂🙂🙂
Thank you 🙏
Thanks for the quick reply Joe. So the documents get mailed to you, do you mean to your home mailbox or do you need a PO Box somewhere else.
Thanks again.
I receive my SS documents at my home address in Thailand. All others at my home address in Florida.
Good video, glad you brought up about SS and taxes. Ill be starting my SS at the end of the year and now I’ll be sure to have taxes taken out. 👍 Hope to bring my wife to Thailand next year, looking forward to seeing some nice areas. Cheers, Tim
Thank you 🙏 See you both in Thailand.
Joe,,that,,was,,a ,,great,,video,,well,,done,,bro,,!!!!😊
Thank you 🙏 so much!
Very nice place.
The beach walk seems to be wery smooth and good for elderly and strollers. How long is beach walk in your town.
It’s about 7KM.
Thank you
🙏
Hey Joe, great video as usual, sounds like all is going in your direction for you and Gift, I’m glad you guys are living the dream. I love it here in Thailand, it’s a dream come true, life is great!! I do have one request on your videos, I think when Gift is out of town and you do a video you need to end it with the “Gift Dance” Safe travels
Thank you 🙏 The dance is and will always be Gift’s trademark. I have my own opening and closing 😊
Thanks for another informative video Joe. Maybe a little happy dance in lieu of Gift's absence? lol! Cheers man!
Thank you 🙏. I’ll leave the dancing to Gift as it is her trademark 😊
Look at it this way u found it so just a hiccup in life blessings from North Texas ❤
I agree ☝️
I can file jointly, as my Thai wife is also an American citizen. So as long as our total income does not exceed $34,000, we pay no taxes.
Awesome!
PLEASE share your experience with the bird repellent caulking or whatever you call it. We have leaf guard on our gutters but d**n birds get in anyway. Quite a nuisance.
So the product had to be ordered online?
We have only used it two days ago and so far it seems to be working. We ordered it from Lazada.
Stay safe, stay healthy
Thank you 🙏
Yes looks beautiful but don't know every single day! I need something to do and people!!
It never gets boring for me. We also travel quite a bit.
Good vid Joe, thanks. I personally set all my withholdings at zero dependent level and use those returned funds each year as being extra fun money outside my normal budget
*Again, thanks for the vids Joe* .
Thank you 🙏. Great idea!
I need to get inspired to get back into some kind of reasonable shape.
😊
Hi joe, another fab video. You mentioned James, chocolate man in Thailand, wondered where he had gone. Do you have his new you tube channel please? 😘
Thank you 🙏. It’s the same channel as before, he just changed the name.
Thanks for the update. Hope your visas come through, it is just never simple. Ah, the taxes. We as US citizens are one of only a small handful of countries where we need to pay taxes while living overseas. I don't know if you have seen the new bill introduced to eliminate federal tax on SS. Hopefully it gets passed as any extra in our pockets is nice to spend on something FUN! Feds withhold almost $800 usd per month on my SS. That goes a long way here!
You are living the dream!
Thank you 🙏 for sharing.
How’s the bird repellent working? I’m experiencing the same issue with birds…
So far, it’s been working.
Hi Joe, What's the name of the material you are using to get rid of the birds. I'm having a big problem with pigeons, they make a mess everywhere?
It’s in ASWINBIRD Repellent Bird-Bat NON TOXIC. Recommend you just take a screenshot of the one in the video to show the salesperson.
@@thaigirlgiftforeignerjoe7774 Hi Joe, I found this bird repellent on Lazada. Quick question, did the repellent work OK? Thanks.
Joe you live in paradise for sure. Here too in Canada we have to file income tax before the end of April.
For the Schengen visa, I translate one important point on my gov website to check beforehand (you Joe and you Gift ) : "visa stamp will have an indication of countries authorized for the travel". Plus for the duration for "short term visas", I guess it will be the maximum 90 days one Schengen entry. For my girlfriend visit to France in 2012, the purpose of the travel I gave was "friend visit" and I have had to give to French embassy, her location (easy, my home) during the visit.
Read the "VALID FOR" and "UNTIL" fields carefully on visas stamps.
Thank you 🙏 for sharing. Gift had to provide her entire travel itinerary, including hotel bookings, a round trip plan ticket, proof of funds in the bank/s and travel insurance.
Hi Joe, hope this note finds you well. Good talk on taxes today. I was wondering how do you get all your tax documents ie: pension, social security 1099 etc., etc. I thought Thailand didn't have mailboxes mailmen. Did you need to prearrange this with SSA & pension people before you left. Please explain. Thanks Joe 🙏
I get most of my documents on line with my secured accounts. SS administration mails my tax documents directly to my Thai address. All US citizens who live in Thailand, file for Social Security benefits through the US Embassy, Social Security administration in Manila Philippines. No other requirements needed.
Good video...my wife is Khmer and I always sponsored her to get the Shengen visa through Spain, and we've gotten the visa several times with no problems...it ought to be easier for Thai people
Thank you 🙏 for sharing.
Thanks for the update of paying your taxes there in Thailand, very helpful. You and Gift should have no problem on your future European trip. So you and Gift take care and enjoy your day there in paradise, PKK.
Thank you 🙏
Good day Joe I am charlie living in Pattaya. What do you think about the new Tax laws about money transferred in from US? I hear the US & Thailand have a dual taxation law so we don’t have a worry? What do you think? Thanks
I’m hearing the same thing, state and federal pensions and SS or the equivalent in other countries will not have to worry about paying taxes in Thailand. I guess we will all find out soon enough. I think it’s a shame if anyone has to pay taxes on money not earned in Thailand. Many may decide not to make Thailand as their retirement destination.
Good to know. We use Turbo Tax and it only took about 2 hours or so. Nothing excited about retirement income.
👍
Thank you very much for sharing take care
🙏
Happy to see you out and about. just wondering, like grammies do sometimes, do you do your laundry while Gift's gone? or let it pile up 'til she gets back ? LOL, i'm pro'bly the only grammy wondering. i checked out chocolate man's page and will watch it sometime. stay safe as always..x o
It piles up for Gift because she doesn’t want me to do laundry LOL 😂
Ann just had her shoulder replaced for the second time. So I think you could do that. Why the second time because she falls a lot and she fell on it and broke something. She has had lots of things replaced it seems to work! I have a bad knee sometimes but I am 70 so hopefully no plans for a new knee. I have to be around for Ann every need!
Hopefully 🤞 I won’t need any body parts replaced 😊 Hope Ann is doing well now.
@@thaigirlgiftforeignerjoe7774 Well she went into the hospital Jan 5 and was basically kicked out Jan 15 with a catheter which she still is using. I am very disappointed in our local hospital and Doctors are lack of Doctors. So hopefully the new Urologist we saw yesterday will help us on Monday Feb. 26 . That would be a start when we went into the hospital she weighed 63 pounds. She has been bedridden since before Christmas.
Hi Joe. Thanks for sharing. Just FYI, they tax social security depending on the amount you get. After a certain amount it's up to 85% of what you received that's taxable. Crazy. 5555
I did have pay tax on 85%.
You can open an Internet account with US Social Security and be able to download the tax forms each year.
I have an Login.gov account, I will check it out. Thank you 🙏 for the info.
Best to take at least 10% withholding on US Social Security if you have other taxable income.
I agree ☝️ I’m going with 22% tax withholdings.
Great to have a rambling vlog from time to time without any real agenda, Joe. Your relaxed style and relaxing scenery is quite soporific. Yes, taxes are a real bugbear of mine, but unfortunately they have to be done otherwise His Majesty's Customs and Revenue Department would be down on me like a ton of bricks. Even though the income tax on my work pension is deducted at source, they usually find some small discrepancy that I need to pay. But as Benjamin Franklin famously said "in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes." I am hopeful that Gift will get her visa and that you will be off to Italy and other European countries soon. Very disappointed that you didn't end your vlog by doing a dance Joe. God bless you both in all that you do. 😀❤🙏
Thank you 🙏. I will leave the dancing to Gift LOL 😂. God bless!
Suggestion: Could you do a video about FBAR. I'm sure a lot of people don't know about this requirement. Who files an FBAR? U.S. persons (U.S. citizens, Green Card holders, resident aliens, and dual citizens) are required to file an FBAR if the combined balance of all the foreign accounts you own or have a financial interest or signature authority is more than $10,000 at any point during the calendar year. This is true regardless of whether you live in the U.S. or abroad. You can be subject to FBAR penalties of up to $10,000 per violation even if you didn’t know you had to file. April 15th deadline.
Good point, I should have mentioned the FBAR requirements. Maybe in one or our upcoming videos or on a livestream.
I ran into that same problem when I did my taxes this past weekend. I had no idea that SSDI was taxable since they weren't taking them out. Big tax bill like yours. Waiting on paperwork to change that, just wondering if you have to mail the info or will they let you do it over the phone?
I’m mailing mine.
@@thaigirlgiftforeignerjoe7774 They make us do it that way as well. I thought since you were overseas they might make an exception.👍
Yes the US holds the rights to tax your social security however in most cases if you are only getting Social Security there is not a tax bill until your pension payments pushes it into a tax area. If you have a federal retirement then yes you probably have a tax bill. However, if you have a state pension or non federal pension then you may not be filing correctly and may not have a tax bill due to the US/Thailand Tax Treaty. Reach out to me for more information ...
The Schengen visa will be valid for 90 days even if you plan to stay only for 42 days in the Schengen aerea. The short stay Schengen visa is the most common one. It is issued by the visa services (embassies, consulates, appointed external providers) of a country belonging to the Schengen area. It allows the holder to stay or travel freely in the Schengen area for less than 90 days over a 180 day period.
Thank you 🙏 for sharing.
Greetings from Malaysia.
Joe, I'm watching your first roadtrip with Chucky 4 yrs ago. You went to PKK first time, stayed where Klaus is staying and build a house in that area 😂. And also Baan Krood. JJs.
So mysterious feeling. Imagine seeing the future and travelling back through time 🤣 And maybe skip a particular restaurant and going to a better one 😂
Hi Joe, I was wondering about the new Thai tax law for expats retirees who transfers money from their foreign bank into their Thai bank? Many people are saying that your Thai bank will automatically take out tax for the Thai's government from 2% to 35% depending if you are bringing into Thailand $1,000 or $140,000 each year for your living expenses in Thailand. If the Thai government are going to tax my pension in Thailand because I transfers my pension money into Thailand to live on, then I will be taxed twice every year, because the American government expects me to pay taxes on my pension income every year. Sounds like if this is true, Thailand will no longer be an affordable retirement destination for expats retirees living on a pension from the USA or the EU. Am I wrong on this new Thai Tax Law Change?
The new Thai law is confusing to many including some of the tax experts from what I have been reading and seeing on TH-cam. In saying this Thailand banks have not been taken taxes out of the money that I transfer from abroad. I seriously doubt that will ever happen.
There is a US - Thailand tax treaty in place as where certain money /incomes cannot be taxed. Like most, I have a wait up and see attitude about the Thai tax law. Please see the link below.
library.siam-legal.com/thai-law/u-s-thai-tax-treaty-pensions-and-social-security-payments-article-20/
Tax filling is voluntary and the banks are NOT expected to capture any tax payments coming into Thailand.
Retirement looks good on you. Hopefully people know this, but travel insurance is required for anyone who is required to get a Schengen visa. It's not required for people who are not required to get a Schengen visa. My wife and I are both exempt from the insurance, but I always buy a policy for us anyway...just in case. Yea, the burger bar was excellent. I was disappointed to not find it there on my last trip to PK. I believe that Gift can own the land and since you're not married, you can lease the land from her and own the house. Fingers crossed for Gift's visa.
Thank you 🙏 Yes I own the house and Gift the land. You are correct, Gift was required to show proof of travel insurance covering the duration of the trip. I have Federal Bluecross Blueshield which covers my medical expenses in Europe, Thailand and many other countries.
One home is enough, and you and Gift have a great one Maintenance can be a full time job, at least for me (maybe more part time).
I agree ☝️
Hello, We’ve been living in Thailand for a year now and getting ready to file a tax return using TurboTax. Do we use Thailand address for current address or US address?😊
I use my US Address (family member). They may ask you to verify your identity by uploading a copy of your government ID such as a drivers license. Good Luck!
Thank you. We have government ID.
Based on the title, thought you would talk about the change to Section 41 of the Thai revenue code and how this may affect how much money you bring into Thailand. Hot topic for anyone considering a move to Thailand, becoming a tax resident in Thailand now exposes the money you bring in (remit) to Thailand to Thai taxation. Only U.S. social security is exempt from Thai taxation when remitted into Thailand. Seems there are many who are still unware of this change and how its potential impact to their cash flow into Thailand if they become a tax resident after staying in country for 180 days or more in a calendar year.

where you going in europe?
Italy, Germany, Croatia.
You guys will most probably be touring Europe. Genuine tourists should be welcome. You guys are the definition of good tourists.
🙏
As a Swede living in the Philippines, I just log in to the tax authority, confirm the numbers with digital ID and log out.
Takes about 2 minutes.
Paying a total of about 1% of my assets in my investment stockfund accout and thats all =)
i do hear from my Us friends how tax is a nightmare every year, and they get shocked how easy it is for a swedish citizen.

Way I get it leave for a vacation before 180 days and no taxes
Depends on one’s situation I’m thinking. We will all find out soon enough. Honestly, I think I’m good and have nothing to worry about.
Hi Joe, It's crazy how we have to pay taxes on social security income since we already paid taxes on it when it was withheld. I retired here last year and have no regrets. Sure, it has its challenges, but what place doesn't. I wish I would have retired and moved here sooner..
You are now living the dream. Enjoy!
Freetaxusa would save you a ton of money, brother. I switched a few years ago and get all of my weird foreign tax stuff included for free.
Thank you 🙏 for sharing.
Chuck says he does have a home though??? Paige owns it and once her parents pass??? So??
Did we see this?
I am applying for a Thai e visa, horrible site and the info they want is ridiculous. Hope to get it
Good day to you Joe,from a Brit, it would be easier if your taxes could be deducted at source particularly as we age,I was going to say you’ve lost weight, hope Gift’s visa application is OK. You’ve certainly done the RIGHT thing for yourself for retirement, just enjoy it and ignore the noise sir, have a blessed day✌🏿❤️☕️
🙏
Over there is getting as crazy as here!!!😢
Hey Joe, I know you don't need diet advice, I'm just suggesting a few channels on youtube in case you haven't heard of them.
Dr Shawn Baker, Dr Paul Saladino and Dr Anthony Chaffee, they all do carnivore and you might find it interesting for what you are trying to achieve.
Thank you 🙏
Italy will welcome you with open arms.
🙏
I hope this is not disrespectful , but are you guys still friends and travel buddies with Chuck and Paige? I miss your adventures…
No worries, we’ve been asked that question a few times. We have many friends that we have traveled with over the years, perhaps more so with Chuck and Paige than others, due to the fact that Chuck’s mom lived next to us for about a year. Kara has since moved closer to Chuck, and for Chuck to visit us, or for us to visit Chuck, it is a three day drive. We all have expanded our travels outside of Thailand and that is one of the reasons we haven’t been traveling together. In addition, Gift and I have been to That Phanom many times and Chuck and Paige have been to Prachuap Khiri many times. Our intent is to travel more outside of Thailand and when traveling in Thailand, perhaps visit places we haven’t yet visited and spending more time in the places we have visited only for a night. Thank you 🙏 for following us on our journey.
As you get older your joints! Ouch!!
Greetings to you and Gift my friend. Robert here. I sent you an email a bit ago. Not sure if you got it. If not let me know. Some bad news, some good news.. Take care..
Let me check again, possibly went into my junk mail folder.
Growing a beard? ❤
lol 😂 I’ve always had a beard.
👍🙂
🙏
Good catch up session...Looks like weather is perfect there...
Taxes...Ooof...Gotta get on that myself...I applied for Social Security finally at the end of Jan...
Waiting to see what the sum will be, estimate is $2350 a month...
That and Army retirement should be enough after I hand off the business so looking at that down the road...
Hope the EU visa comes through for Gift...Fingers crossed...
Take care...
🙏🙏🙏
👍😎👍
Awesome!
I think ex-pats who move to Thailand and go back home are the ones who have not traveled much or not at all, to foreign countries. Their inexperience with foreign countries leads them to believe that it will be just like where they are from. Whenever you are the immigrant, it's your responsibility to adapt to that culture, which includes learning the language.
Definitely should not move to any country if you can’t adapt to their culture. While learning the language would be a good thing, it’s not for everyone.
Chocolate man in a van❤🎉🎉
Yeah just heard about social security! Taxes out of that too 🤬

Are you getting double-taxed? having to pay 30% tax to Thailand on the money you already got taxed for in the USA?
No I am not. I only pay tax in the US.
Do you get bored?
Not at all.
No gift, so you need to do the chicken dance at the end buddy lol
The dance is Gift’s trademark 😊. My trademark is my opening and closing.
2 dreaded certainties we all must face , death and taxes. Prachuap is very peaceful. We are good with 90% Thai food when travelling in Thailand

If gift doesn't get visa for Europe. Will you still go to see your sons
Yes but probably later in the year and only to Germany for a few weeks.
Everytime I come to thailand with my beautiful thai wife I eat eat and eat...moment im Back in the states the pounds drop haha

Taxes and death 2 sure things!😢
Fact!
Speaking of taxes, do you or your viewer's know of any xpat groups or person that's knowledgeable about US taxes and turbo tax software??
Just curious, as I'm in Thailand and have not filed yet, just had a few hi level questions like filing SS and anuity pension as well as the amount for single filer and the amount that's exempt from taxes in long term gains etc.
Do not, respond back by saying "seek a tax consultant" over the years, any errors made were by tax consultants like CPAs so not interested in hearing "seek a tax consultant" that's where one pays MORE 4 LESS
Turbo Tax is easy to use and self-explanatory. They also have an option for live chat, where all your questions can be answered. Good luck!
