    For future flights book directly with the airline and cut out the middle man. Wishing you a safe and happy trip!

      Absolutely agree. If the flights were booked through a third party and there are problems, you must deal with that third party for resolution. Use the third party sites to compare prices and then go direct to the airline to book the tickets. If you have problems, you can now deal directly with the airline.

    • @Mark-rw3kw
      @Mark-rw3kw หลายเดือนก่อน

      A specific airline may not be able to book flights on other airlines, or at least not every airline, and even if they do, they don't want to show competitive flights on the same routes. If you have a simple itenerity and you know which airline you want to fly (or willing to look on a couple different airline sites yourself), then booking directly with the airline may be preferable, but sounds like Joe has a complex itenerary.

    Dealt with Travelocity many years ago, never again. They are a third party operator and receive commissions from the airline. Now I always deal direct with the airlines websites. But don’t stress about it you have a confirmation for that flight, just enjoy your trip. 🇦🇺🇦🇺👍👍

    • @Mark-rw3kw
      @Mark-rw3kw หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just becasue Travelocity receives a commission, doesn't mean their fares are higher than booking direct. Also, it looks like Joe has a complex itinerary with many flights on different airlines. Travelocity was originally started by Sabre (a spinoff from American Airlines) and is now owned by Expedia Group.

      Until they over book the flight, then airlines go "well deal with your 3rd party, its not our issue".

    I know it’s a PITA, but I’ve decided not to book any important travel through travel agent websites. I have had too many issues like this where the airline won’t help because I used an agent and the website customer service is terrible/incompetent. I still check schedules and prices on the travel site, but then book direct with the airline. That way I can deal only directly with the airline itself for service, and in my experience the airline customer service is always better.

    I used to fly every 2-3 weeks, sometimes 3 times a month. I will never use a 3rd party ever again, after 1 bad flight. Never again. Ever. I dont care if the cost is double, because when you have a flight change, or cancellation, ect. You have to deal with this 3rd party, instead of the airline directly.
    My family recently used expedia, booked a ticket, paid for it, and they didnt send the ticket until 8 hours to departure. My family thought the ticket never got paid for and sent, ended up buying a 2nd ticket and cancelling that one because the first ticket was not sent until 8 hours.
    Never book 3rd party. Book with the airlines themselves, the credit card companies for insurance purposes help a lot. The credit cards are like "deal with expedia".

    I wouldn’t stress out over it Joe , you have a confirmation number from Travelocity , and to go a step further I’d call the airline back and have them email you a confirmation from them, have a copy of it with you when you go to board and if there’s an issue don’t go into the whole story just show them the confirmation #, if they double booked your seat their only option would be to upgrade you , it reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where Jerry has a reservation for the rental car at the airport , and they don’t have a car for him,… but a confirmation # holds a lot more weight than a reservation, you and Gift will end up in first class eating prime rib and chasing it with an ice cream sunday …. Good Luck and safe travels !

    I always book directly with the airline. Peace of mind and the prices are usually no more expensive. Only hotels would I use a middleman since there are better prices through them. Just be prepared to use your credit card at the airport if you're in a pinch. It is low season so you shouldn't have huge problems.

    Hi Joe. I’ve worked in banking for over 20 years. If your transaction was approved by your bank for the airline ticket, the bank is obligated to pay the money to Travelocity regardless if you have the money or not in your account. It is your bank’s responsibility to collect from you, not Travelocity. As far as Travelocity is concerned, they got an approval from your bank for the tickets and they are guaranteed payment. Travelocity would never issue your ticket if they did not receive an approval for the transaction.

    I never book a flight through a third party because of what you just described. I just go straight to the airline. As an example I am at BKK right now, I'm transiting from Nepal back to Texas this is a United miles flight. You talked about 💳 last video, I use them to get almost free flights. I got a credit card put my living expenses on it for 3 months 4k and got more than enough miles to fly from Nepal to Lubbock TX I had to pay about$100 in taxes and fees. To get to Nepal I used another credit card miles and flew Air France from Houston to India for $130. I paid cash and directly to Sri Lanka airlines to fly from India to Sri Lanka for 2 weeks and the again with Sri Lanka Air to Nepal. I took 2 flights from Nepal with Buddha air and paid cash for them also. I did have a problem with return flight it is on Thai Airways from Nepal to BKK part of my United points flight and I just went directly to Thai Airways office on Kathmandu to resolve it. I have had problems with 3rd party flight sites, customer service is nearly non existent and the airline s will just send you back to them.

    That's what happens when you start getting these middlemen like Travelocity, Ticketmaster, etc. The transaction path has to flow through multiple parties each which can have their own payment and billing cycles. It's not transparent to the end customer, and it seems to be on the end customer to drive the resolution of these kind of issues.

Last year we were in 6 cities in 5 countries and only one small hiccup, the heater in our Vienna hotel wasn't working so we changed rooms the next day. The weekend before our flight to Munich, the transportation people in Germany went on strike for 3 days. If it happened a week later, we would have been screwed.

    Joe, the same happened to me in 17 when I booked thru Travelocity going from Newark NJ to Bangkok. Both Cathy pacific and Travelocity confirmed but the money was still in my account after 7 days! Luckily I straightened it out three weeks before my flight. Don't listen to people who say "don't worry you got the confirmation #" cause your bank can rescind the payment after a certain amount of days if the transaction isn't executed by the airline or Travelocity then a ( cancelation notice due to non payments)would be sent to the airline or tavel agency. Stay on it bruh cause you don't want to find out right before leaving for Europe! Oh and by the way thanks for the " bank book " update info. Didn't know that and as always good looking out for us 🙏🙏👍

    • @Mark-rw3kw
      @Mark-rw3kw หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are a lot of different kinds of tint films, each of which reflects different amounts of solar energy. The degree of tinting in Joe's windows looks to be similar to tint film used for cars and commercial buildings, and is a lot more than the kind usually put in-between panes of glass. The best tint film in terms of solar energy rejection is ceramic or metallic film. Tint film that only darkens the window is not very effective in reducing solar energy. The only problem with metallic film is that it can in some cases reduce the ability to receive radio and cell phone transmissions through the windows, which is why most high-end tint jobs for cars use ceramic films.

      As stated there are different tints and different qualities. You get what you pay for. As long as you are happy with what you have, that’s all that matters. Perhaps if we would have had them tinted with the build the price would have been cheaper. We chose to have tempered glass which has a slight green tint from the iron oxide content within glass itself.

    Joe, don’t worry so much, just enjoy your trip. Take the documentation showing your communication with everyone about the payments for tickets. If they say it’s paid, then it’s paid. Let go, let God. 👍😊

    I don’t want to give any false assurances about the payment for the flight, but I once worked for a third party credit card processing company that handled the accounts for many credit card issuers ( basically banks who issued the Visa or Mastercard). Any time a change is made there is a preliminary hold (pending state) put on your card. Then the vendor or their merchant card bank has a couple of days to resubmit the charge as a final charge. If not resubmitted then the pending charge is reversed. In some cases due to procedural errors and handling of data transmission (or computer software errors) in sending back the final charge, the final charge is permanently lost or maybe seriously delayed. But in these cases the merchant such as Travelocity or the airline still gets paid right away. So if Travelocity and the airline say they got paid you are probably OK, and the final charge may be seriously delayed or never show up. It is more than likely that the problem is with the bank who issued your credit card.

    Hi Joe, is there any US tax liability with having more than $10K USD with FBAR? I'm not earning any foreign income but there is some interest being earned with my accounts in Thailand. (Still living and working in the US but preparing for retirement back to Bangkok)

    • @Tra980
      @Tra980 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You have to report foreign bank accounts on your U.S. tax return, regardless of the amount in the account. Any interest you earn is taxable. The FBAR is separate from your tax return and is reportable to Treasury on the FinCen website if you have more than $10k in any combination of foreign accounts during the year. FBAR is separate from your tax return. If you have $10k or more in a foreign account, you would need to file FBAR even if you had 0 income worldwide throughout the year and don’t file a tax return.

      @thaigirlgiftforeignerjoe7774  หลายเดือนก่อน

      No the FBAR is just for reporting that you have a foreign bank account. As far as taxes on the interest earn, you will have ask your tax advisor.

    I’ve never done an F-bar but I’ve never had more than 10k in my Thai account. Honestly, I’ve never heard anyone talk about that in the expat circles. Hopefully no treasury feds will come for me. I’m guessing they won’t fuss with me and my meager means 😅

    Isn't booking on the Internet wonderful. I'm an old bloke and I start to shake if I have to do anything on the Internet . Much prefer paying cash face to face and get confirmation straight away. But we all have to move with the times I suppose.

    • @Mark-rw3kw
      @Mark-rw3kw หลายเดือนก่อน

      Pay cash? if you actually went to an airport and tried to pay cash at an airline ticket counter, they will suspect you are a terrorist (at least in the USA), so I would not recommend that.

    Joe , if you just transferred money from a bank in America when ever you needed it , being careful not to exceed $10,000 would you then not have to file an f-bar ? ( I’m not trying to be sarcastic , I just never heard of an f-bar )

    • @thaigirlgiftforeignerjoe7774
      @thaigirlgiftforeignerjoe7774  หลายเดือนก่อน

      No as long as your Foreign bank account or combined accounts remain under $10,000 on any given day. FBAR also has nothing to do with your taxes.
