- Today we will talk about our thoughts on the Philippines, Gift's Schengen Visa process and our upcoming trip to Europe. I will also briefly discuss my understanding of the new Thai Tax Law and how it affects me as an expat living in Thailand.

Joe, the term you are looking for is "Progressive tax" system that uses tax brackets that increase progressively with each bracket.

HELLO GIFT AND JOE
Hello 👋
i'm american and live in a country that taxes me but i claim the taxes that i pay here on my usa return. they call it a foreign tax credit and it gets deducted off of my tax bill in the usa. I pay taxes on 2 different dates and one set of taxes is after april 15 which makes me file an amended or an extension which is inconvenient. If you pay your thai taxes before you file in the usa that will be easier. The hardest part for me is keeping track of my credit card spending. use of my usa credit cards here is considered remitting money and is taxable income. I wonder how the thai govt is going to keep an eye on all foreign credit card transactions or if thats even possible.
Thank you 🙏 for sharing.

Hotels in The Philippines are expensive because it's associated with tourism. Foreigners are stereotyped as being able to afford it. Hotel prices in the US are also a major rip-off. Europe is not exactly cheap. Most Filipinos will stay at smaller resorts, hostels, or transient types of establishment.
OK, if it based on foreign tourists being able to afford it then why are Thailand hotels more affordable? Thailand is a larger tourist spot , with 5 times the tourists over 28M compared to Philippines 5M for 2023. Could it just not be based on greed?
@@FOCUSonASIA13 Greed is a part of it, but it goes deeper than hotels: it's a part of the DNA. Thailand takes on China's attitude of money being their God so Thailand has greed in their DNA too.
@@FOCUSonASIA13very good point!
