    Highly recommend with any high solids urethane boat/yacht paint should be applied with a pressure pot and pressure feed gun. Higher DOI, Gloss, Consistent application, etc.

      Any boat over 30 ft should use pot. Under 30 I use a harbor freight gravity fed for 18 bucks and then throw it away

    I was told by an Awlgrip rep. that 545 primer has an induction time but there is NO induction time for the topcoat. I thought there was for the topcoat but when I searched the product info I couldn’t find an induction time called for.

      Hi. The spider cracks are usually in the gelcote only. You will need to grind them out to repair the area because the cracks have dirt in them which will keep you from repairing the area. I use a dremel 9910-03 carbide cutting bit to open the cracks. I then vacuum the area and wipe the opened cracks with acetone. If you fill them with filling/fairing putty, you will need to paint the area. If you fill them with gelcote, you will need to match the color of the existing gelcote. For filling and fairing, clean the opened cracks, spread the filler into the cracks, and sand the area smooth after the filler hardens. You would then use a building primer, a sealing primer, and then several coats of top coat, color paint. You would then wet sand and compound to a glossy finish if necessary.
      If you use gelcote, match the color, slightly over fill the area, and let it harden. Then, sand the area. Be careful not to remove too much existing gelcote, or you will need to spray on gelcote to re-cover the area.
      I painted my boat with Awlgrip 2000. Be careful to use the reducer indicated for your temperature. Our weather is usually pretty cool, so I use a fast drying reducer.

    Thinking of Brushing & rolling a white porcelain bath tub. Will this work? - Would I still need the reducer? - And how many coats would it take? Any thoughts would be great. thanks

      Would this paint be safe to bathe in ?

    • @rocketagp

      Jen Son epoxy paint on a bath is quite common. I think you could use easier systems than Awlgrip. The instructions on Awlgrip 2000 indicates Reducer is always used. If you spray indoors: ALWAYS USE A FULL SUIT AND RESPIRATOR. You do not want this in your lungs. You can paint floor tile, wall tile, sinks, baths... this stuff is tough.

    How long should I wait between high build coats when applying primer?

    • @rocketagp
      @rocketagp 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      All of the paints I used are epoxy based. Check the instructions. Most will say to recoat in as little as an hour and no longer than 24 hours. You do not want the epoxy to cure fully between coats because it will have a chemical blush that will not allow the next coat to adhere.
