No bull, straight to the point and solid old school work ethic! Hands down the best go-to instructional video on the topic. Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing your knowledge! Cheers from Norway 🍻
I must say. This was THE best, thoroughly comprehensive video for me to get my feet wet. Feel like a pro already. What a confidence booster. Good looking out.
Very nice work. Some forty years ago at the same yard I sprayed a few boats with Awlgrip. I won't name the yard in case Bruce is trying to keep you a secret ;). I laughed at your remark about a big bug. I had one crawl from the boot to the rail on a dark blue. It might as well have been a bulldozer driving across the topside. The big shed was just a wish back then. Wish I knew then what you know now.
Dude u are by far the most honest, straight to the point, leave out the b.s., vloger on the topic. Bin in the trade 5 yrs myself so I kinda know what I'm saying. Nice work. On boat & vid. I have to subscribe.
You are the best. You should train some young guys and start a great business. You are so dedicated and sincere. I really enjoyed watching this video!!!
excellent video I painted my boat this winter and I followed your advice. It came out better than I ever could have done without watching your video. Thank you Doug from Massachusetts
awesome video, the attention to detail and your tips given,to go that extra mile, really pays off. lol I forgot about what acouple bugs walking around can ruin all the hard work, thank you
Excellent work! as the guy below me said, everything you said was direct and straight to the point, that alone held my attention and interest. I was in corrosion control when I served in the U.S. Navy so I had a lot of experience with catalyst type paint, so your warning to use proper protective gear was also excellent, you DON'T want those chemicals in you body, and last your attention to detail and taking what ever time and effort needed to do the job right the 1st time was spot-on! Great work and I will save this 2-part video to refer to when I need it, to restore my "66" Larson All American boat. Again, excellent job, thanks for the tutorial!
Just started spraying all together a couple weeks ago for a big company and it’s been nothing but awl grip and flying by the seat of my pants. I can’t thank you enough for your video
You are a great instructor, very comprehensive explanation. I rolled and tipped my awlgrip previous. Not even close to your spray finish, not to mention time saved by spraying. Ty sir! Keep em coming.
Thanks for your videos. My 16 year old Son and I replaced the transom on his 1992 23' Robalo and now it is time to make her pretty again. Your videos do a great job at explaining and demonstrating what is needed for a nice paint-job. Keep posting!
Really nice job! When I was growing up if your reflection was 12 inches it was a great paint job! Now it’s 12 feet as this job clearly shows! One hell of a difference the two part paints make over lacquer. Applied by old school hard work ethic painter!
Thanks mate, lets get it done. I'm just about to do this to my Shetland Black Hawk 19 so I appreciate how you explained it all, step by step. Awesome thanks.
Awesome how to. I appreciate your coverage of the same ole same ole for you pros that viewer by viewer content by content the newbies get the pro tips. So far your the first I've watched all the way through. Your sound lighting angles editing is far above which is important to me. Thanks for the class watched the whole series. I've only a jetski to do maybe you have a series of the smaller PWCs.
Great Video. Looking to paint my fiberglass travel trailer and after being recommended to awlgrip, I found this video and knew everything I needed to know to get working. Great info.
Hey Frankie - Awesome !!!!! By far the best boat paint instruction video series on the internet. I'm going to be painting my Cape Dory Typhoon in my backyard this Spring. Thanks so much for the info.
sweet job , thanks for thoroughly covering all the Steps the way you did in this video that’s a lot of boat for a one man team ! But you knocked it out with great results!
WOW !!!!! Great job. Your video is the best ive seen and feel ready because of it to spray my boat. Thank you for taking the time to go over the small stuff Like product names, amounts ,dry times etc. for us beginners. Im glad your out there offering your experience. Again thank you!!!
Thanks for doing these videos. I wasn’t going to try this after hearing my friends methods of high build and sanding between all the coats. After seeing you use the accuspray and watching you paint outside with the wind blowing plastic I ordered all the stuff. Got my 3 coats of 545 on this afternoon and I’m happy with it. The trick is going to be keeping the bugs out of top coat here on the horse farm.
Thanks for all your teaching man!!! Huge help! Can you imagine if we had this way of learning available to us when we were startin out and eliminating so much trial and error? Dang! Thanks again!!
This is my second of your videos and you my friend, are making some quality TH-cam content. These videos are excellent and I'll definitely be watching more.
Great job brother thanks for sharing your knowledge with the rest of us was wanting to redo my 36 foot but was little concerned about it because never done any fiberglass thanks again for your time big help
I’m gonna get some new videos out ASAP. Everything I’m working on is so big it’s just to much of a pain to try and cover it all. Bare with me, I’ll be back soon👌👌
Good video. All business ...no b.s. Will be doing my Formula 223 soon. Although, like another viewer mentioned, why no bottom paint while in the mode? Many thanks.
Thank you for the great videos. Can I repaint the top rail of a bass boat with duplicolor lacquer paint system? I painted a Kawasaki the other day and it came out ok.
Holy Cow Batman, You are amazing, love your explanations and then time lapse. Can't stop watching. Question, I am building a live aboard house boat, using a 20' Sylvan deck boat hull. The boat hull I will prep and paint using your videos, the hull will have a 24' pontoon on each side attached with aluminum beams that will cross the hull and be attached to the hull using braces etc. I want to paint the pontoons to match the hull. Is Awl Grip good for that? Your wisdom is appreciated.
Yes awlgrip is perfect for that. Just make sure you etch prime the aluminum before epoxy priming. No sanding between the two primers. And thanks Douglas🍻👌
Thanks for doing these great videos. Did you have any trouble applying Awlgrip directly over the 3M Acryl Putty with no primer on those spots? Does the Awgrip cover and bond the same on those spots as it does over the 545?
Hi frankie Liked your work style very well explained. I'm getting ready to shoot my 22ft angler with awlgrip can u tell me how many coats of primer I should do? And how long should I wait between coats?
Hey eydel. I am just now seeing this. I always do 3 coats of primer and depending on temp will determine how long you need to wait between coats. The thumb test never lets you down. Stick your finger on the tape where the primer hit and count to two. Remove your thumb and if no product stuck to it then your ready for the next coat. Same thing goes for paint. Good luck and hope this helps👌
Everything you do looks amazing. I'm in the process of learning to spray gel coat, what products do you use and how do you get your final coat so smooth like glass?
Thx David. More subscribers would be good. Lol. I’m happy with the few I have. I figure if I keep uploading videos the subscribers will come. I try to share in all the groups I feel will allow it. I’ve been kicked out of a couple diy groups because they say I’m trying to direct their followers from there page. ( definitely not the case) this is the only way I can explain what I’m doing to help others that want to try and do similar. Idk. Gonna take some time. Thx again David 👌👌
Great channel. This is a little off the content here but I am looking to repair seaglaze windows on my boat. Do you have a video covering that sort of work or a recommendation pointing me to someone who does that sort of work?
thanks for the learning videos I'm going to do a 20 ft boat do you use a interface pad on the 120 grit sandpaper for the first part of sanding I know you do for the 220 and 320 You really do great work! I've watched all your videos THANKS
I only use the interface pad for the final prep after primer. If you’re sanding gelcoat and the contour is lumpy/wavy and you sand with 120 and still see a bunch of shiny spots then yes, I would use the interface pad and go back over it with 120. It just all depends on the job👌
I will be painting my 31’ contender ,I have experience that’s not problem, my question is how do you paint leaving boats outside when the evening dew kills the shine? I always put my boats in a shop to dry overnight but I can’t with this time. The topside and deck are my big concern….
I’m buying a vessel like this one in Florida someone painted the bottom black. I think it looks bad. I’d rather have it back to white. It’s faded. What’s the easiest way to get it back to white? Ty
Thanks for your past response to my past question, I have to ask you , what air pressure are you painting at, I have the same 3M accuspray system, used the 2:1 TIP you recommended, but 3M says to use max 20lbs, which means my spray is super slow, and my paint finish look like a patina finish, not the smooth glossy finish you are getting. Your video looks like you are using way more pressure than that? and achieving an amazing smooth glossy finish.
I try to pull the tape and plastic asap. I’ll clean the gun and then unwrap it. Gotta make sure there isn’t any overspray or bleed through before it kicks.
Good morning Frank, I’ve never painted with a spray gun before, so I have a couple of questions about the all craft. Do you mix all the paint that you’re going to use for all three coats at once? how long do you wait between coats? Can you use all craft below the waterline? For my entertainment I do watch your videos, they are informative and your expertise is four and above any other videos I’ve seen. Do you know anybody close to Baltimore who you trust to do this type of work? Thanks again
Amazingly well presented. I have done a bit of spray painting in the past but you are such a professional and each little step is so well explained. I was interested in what you do with the gun between coats?
Man I want to thank you, I have watched this video over and over, it really helped me. "That being said", I have painted and it looks great except for dust and bugs on my final job.....any advice on how or if I should attempt to fix it???? It's still within 12 hours of spraying.
I do. The only thing I would recommend is spraying on a test panel first. Something with a smooth surface. Practice makes perfect. Spray 3 coats and if you can achieve a shiny, no run surface then you should be good to go👌
No bull, straight to the point and solid old school work ethic!
+1🙋♂️
If your feet are wet ... there’s still a hole in the boat!
3 years later and I have come back 3 times now just to reiterate some questions I had! The best video for DIYers into boat hull repairs and paint.
You, my friend, are a true craftsman. It was a pleasure to watch you and the pride you take in your work.
Very professional and knowledgeable work. Keep posting videos like this one THANK YOU 🙏..
