My favorite thing in the world is that my brain thinks of you as kin because you’re a Southerner speaking with a Southern accent but then you so smoothly transition into Vietnamese! My mind is starting to positively associate Vietnamese culture with Southern culture. We gossip and cook and share food the same way. You even treat the Aunties the same way we do. It’s just a really pleasant experience for me. It’s rare to find Southern language TH-camrs. I’m like genuinely shocked at how big of a deal accent is to comfort level. I didn’t even recognize that there was a distance between me and TH-cam’s English-speaking polyglots until I heard your voice.

If you haven't had the pleasure of dealing with Vietnamese immigrants in the US, you're missing out. They tend to be really good at integrating with their local community while still maintaining a lot of their culture, which they are proud to share with others. I've heard from foreigners that the Vietnamese in their countries are the same as how I've described them here. Basically, the Vietnamese make a great addition to any community that welcomes them.

It's the day before Lunar New Year here in the U.S. and this wound up in my feed. NYC transplant living in Northwest Arkansas, so I'm acclimated to the Southern accent and hospitality. The first thing to get used to is how folks just have a conversation with you waiting on line for anything - bank, grocery, restaurant. Seeing him do the same in Vietnam just shows you can take the boy out of the South but you can't take the South out of the boy. 😊

He can communicate easily and enjoys interacting with the Vietnamese aunties. No BS about how he "SHOCKED the locals" or "BROKE the matrix". Well done video. What you're doing here is much the same as my visit to Sicily where I broke away from any tourist lanes and spent all my time deep in the interior life of the Sicilian mountain and country communities. The people eventually opened up to me and I enjoyed the richness of their very different villages. Once you make that connection, they rush in to overfeed you and share what it is they do such as art, music, etc.

Great video as always Max! I love it when you show your interactions with the locals. And, it's incredible how they roast the coffee beans; they are true artisans.

It's pretty apparent the locals sense a genuine kindred spirit and respond. I envy your mastery of their language but even more, envy how easily you connect with people. It's a rare and beautiful trait.

It’s really pleasure to watch your video, for me I can understand conversations in VN, and for my kids they can understand when you speak in English, so it’s a win-win for us, all thanks to your lovely videos. Thanks Max💐🌾and also surprisingly, you adapt soo…well in the Vietnamese culture, even better than us👏🤭😍

I like that you're just chillin' there, not trying to surprise people for clicks- the latter, done by other creators, is entertaining but can get obnoxious.

Max, I replaced and listened to what the coffee lady said, 7 - 8 times. She did not call you "Mất dạy" . She said "Tui già rồi". Her heavy southern accent and the way she pressed down the word "Gìa" made it sounds like "Dìa" and that sounded like "Dạy".

The 50 something years old lady didn't call you "mất dạy", which is a very insulting phrase to say someone is rude, without good parenting. She said she was old, "chị già rồi"

I really like your shows because you go to the roadside stands to eat what the average people there eat everyday instead of the expensive restaurants. Furthermore, you only order what can consume unlike some of the other big name foodies who would order a HUGE meal and waste over 95% of it.

I enjoyed watching this very much, it is heartwarming. It is also good to hear you speak local language as it shows the Vietnamese character exchanged for us to better understand. I have always had respect for Vietnam etc.
I have thought to travel there. Of course the food and drink i will love.

Wait...I had no idea they added butter to the coffee. Is it clarified butter?
I wish I'd known about this area when I was there; I stayed in District 3. I loved getting to know the people in the neighborhood; even after only a few weeks it felt like it was becoming "home."
I was about to say "wait, nobody asked you if you're married," but there it was. 😀
    Great episode!
