She's hilarious, probably the funniest person you've ever spoken to in one of your videos, she seems so down to earth. You could almost see the gears crashing in her head when you switched languages LMAO

I love Xiao Ma, but as a Cantonese speaker it's true that his initial sentences didn't make sense (he was trying to say colour but those words weren't correct - I couldn't make sense of it) so hence her confusion ❤️
As well as your friends mom being an absolute riot (seriously she was awesome) it was really cool to see you get to be a lot more informal and have some genuine laughs in your vids since usually you're meeting strangers in foreign countries and you're making sure you're always super polite so you dont accidentally offend anyone. Same thing happened to me and my sister in Japan...she speaks 5 different languages and lived in Koriyama for 6 years. Never seen so many Japanese people bow so deeply and say sorry and ask for forgiveness! This is golden!
I love how she just stares at him and just cant comprehend what is happening. And she goes “What the hell did you say?” 😂 i also love that she told the story of the other person who she didnt know spoke chinese based on their looks
His Cantonese pronunciation was off so she could not understand him. She was trying to figure out what he was trying to say. I can speak fluent Cantonese. His Mandarin pronunciation is much better.
Haha. This woman has one of the most animated and vibrant reactions I've ever seen in one of Xiaoma's videos. She has that tell-it-like-it-is quality that I've seen with a lot of Cantonese speakers. It makes for an entertaining watch.
In college I had a friend that was American but raised in China and she would always do this when she was out. If someone was talking about people in Mandarin she would listen in and tell me what they were saying. It feels like a superpower knowing what someone is saying when they don’t want you knowing.
@@eduardoestudillo9276 Don't be sanctimonious. Ari could ask her if she'd like to be involved in some videos. She's obviously very outgoing and would probably enjoy herself.

This lady is hilarious. She would be a lot of fun to hang out with. She took the whole situation very well and played along. I'm glad to see this video. Keep it up!
The lady in the video getting her toes done seemed honestly amazing. The way she was interacting with the workers and going with their jokes even if she didn’t understand everything was super humble and has a good sense of humor, and considering she yelled at the dude when it seemed the worker was upset at him, was so brave of her. I really really like her and want a good person like that as my friend!
Oh, this lady is absolutely adorable, she is a hoot. I think she's the funniest person I've seen yet in one of your videos, and she's such a good sport about it all.
This is my favorite video of yours. The Nail salon women was so funny. She was in absolute shock when you started to speak her language. It's like it wasn't registering to her. I like her. I hope her business is still flourishing. 5 stars! 🙂❤️
It’s wild that after years of putting out so many videos of this genre that you can still put out a video like this that may arguably be the most entertaining one yet. She’s the best!
8:53 Being able to make humor like that requires such an incredible depth of knowledge, of not just culture, but specific localities and accents within that culture. Amazing!
i guess? He studied in Beijing, so he would pick up accents and mannerisms. Just like if a foreign person learned English in America, they would develop an American accent.
@@Nikotheleepic Bad comparison imo, of course it’s easy to do in your native tongue. The reason people are shocked when he speaks other languages is because he also has the accent down perfectly, to the point where they ask if his parents are Chinese, which is obviously very rare judging by the reactions.
I fucking love the lady that did your nails, she's so funny and expressive. I personally don't care about people gossiping about me in different languages, gotta get the stresses of a job out somehow. besides, I'm there to get my haircut, not care about other people's opinion of me
Unless their frustration and bad opinion shows in the haircut at the end ._. Maybe that's why so many of us are always unhappy after visiting a hair salon.
I bet she thought she was hallucinating when he started speaking Cantonese. Also lady getting the foot bath laughs like a seagull and it’s awesome. Love it when people don’t hide their laughter. Love sharing cultures like this.

Edit: oh welcome everyone and thanks for the love.
Yeah im Croatia and was in Prague for vacation and walking into a exchange shop while talking to my friend and this darker that black guy at the counter said "Hello" in perfect Croatia accent😅 I was lookjng around the shop like a ghost was there
That rule about not gossiping about other people in another language cause they might understand it is an important rule. I remember one time when I was working at my local grocery store in high school there was a German couple that came in and were gossiping about the employees. At this point I had already been learning German for 5 years so I understood most of that they were saying. As they were walking away from me I said to them "Have a nice day" to them in German and the look on their faces... they were _mortified._

I'm a native speaker, but I'm pretty fluent in english. It really is not that difficult, everyone can do it, after all, you already speak one language right? all you have to do is learn the basics of the language you want to learn and then get into contact with their culture. Download some books from in the language, get into their twitter and make some friends. You don't even have to get out of your home to do it.
