Love love your content.. Also…Tip: if u wet a paper towel and use that across your gloved hand u can tamp down the silicone it wont stick to gloved finger
Have you experience with micropore tape seems it would be more cost effective than polyfill and easier to apply, thanks for the video, im about to go make my first lids.
Yes, micropore tape is great for monotub filters where contamination is far less of a problem, but it does not offer enough protection for grain. If you rely on it for jar filtration, you will have mold issues. A cheap pillow is less than $4 at walmart and contains enough polyfill to make hundreds of lids!
Not to be that contrarian, but I've used micropore tape with less issues than polyfill. I do not advice against Fungaia's wisdom, but in my situation, I've got the same 85%-95% success rate. I also make sure to double the tape up and it is a PAIN to clean off of the lids for the next batch. I also will put all of my inoculated jars into my Martha tent inside of an isolated room that is always kept CLEAN . I'm sure that it doesn't hurt that I live in the frozen north where 1/2 of the year is frozen and there just aren't as many contam issues to worry about at that time. If I were starting over again, I think that I play around a few times with micropore tape and after a couple of adventures and mis adventures, switch over to the thick filter pads. They look pretty bomber! Mush love, all!
Great content ! I was wondering if using the famed 3M micropore tape as a filter for the ventilation hole would be as good if not better than polyester filling ?
A much better option for a DYI injection port is employing the use of RTV rather than silicone. Also, I would not suggest those filter discs. Instead I would suggest the implementation of a syringe filter. It will keep the container water tight, and still allow for FAE and pressure/vacuum equilibrium when you draw LC with syringes. This guys methods are ok, but there are much better options for LC jar lids, in my opinion.
When growing in a tent, use a 4" vent fan for intake and hepa filter the air. This would create a positive pressure sterile air environment for the cost of a hepa filter and fan. After pressure cooking, I put the medium directly into a monotub hot and used the heat to disinfect the monotub. Ready to inoculate. Almost every video I've seen about inoculating, people aren't using a mask. Gloves are important but, masking is too. Breathe onto a mirror, the exhaled moisture gets into and onto the material people are working with. I'd wager, this specific issue is causing infections.
Instead of just polyfill I use needle caps, y cut the end to make a tube and stuff the tube with polyfill. It makes it tighter and since the tube is longer it's more difficult for contams or or liquid to get in or out. You can even shake the jars since polyfill is hydrophobic
So after heating in the pressure cooker do you have to worry about the vacuum drawing in contamination during cool down when it has a filter? Or do you still leave the kids loose?
If you use an adhesive injection port which sits on top of the plastic lid, would it be possible for contamination to enter through the 1/4" GE hole and bypass the filter through the injection hole made in the filter through the injection port? The benefit of using silicon being that it's in direct contact with the filter, whereas the injection port wouldn't be, leaving an air gap and a potential hole in the filter. Is this a valid concern?
No, as long as the silicone seals against the filter, the injection port will protect the hole that the needle makes. If you peel the filter and silicone apart, you'll need to reapply the silicone to reseal the hole.
Is that a Unicorn bag? If not, is there a type of bag you'd recommend for more advanced growers? Also, glad to see you posting! Love the work so far! Keep up the good work. :)
Yep, I have always used Unicorn bags and they have always worked perfectly for me. Always get a type T filter for making spawn. Stay tuned for a whole video on bags!
the top syringe is it a sharp needle you see in medical devices or is it a flat top cylindrical tip? the ones i found on ebay in my country can only give a flat top cylindrical type which would be pretty hard to even penetrate human skin
How often can you reuse those synthetic disks? I see lots on amazon but I'm having trouble distinguishing the high quality ones from the low. Some are titled as synthetic but also paper... are they all just paper? I'm asking because that's a big shipping cost from this website you're recommending and I just want to make sure it's worth it. Thanks! Great videos btw.
hi, do you guys think its a good idea to just close the aeration hole with some micropore tape? instead of the microfiber, it seems safer, or theres no need/drawbacks? thank you
Question on the plastic lids. The ones I typically buy have a clear rubber gasket that fit in a groove for sealing. You said your are flat. So do they not have the gasket with the groove? Love your channel!!
This was a very thoughtful and informative video. Thank you very much, amigo. I am not a fan of the foolhardy scientist bit, but I love your channel otherwise. Thanks much

Another place one can get plastic Mason jar lids is from small 16oz peanut butter containers.
Just adding this comment to show appreciation and support 🫠

Love love your content..

Well done, thanks for doing this and with such very useful details and an entertaining presentation. You're great!
Bro what is up with your hammer? 2:54
And prime numbers? 10:28
Love it
Your videos helped fill in some gaps in my knowledge and make DIY mushroom cultivation very accessible ble.
Best learning tool on TH-cam!! I appreciate YOU!

Great info!
What a nice guy and top tier tutorials. Gonna start my first grow soon
07:12 guy in window just ate some bad shrooms😂
If your even more on a budget for filters use breathable medical tape it works pretty well thanks for all the info on the self injection ports
Thank you.
Can use a simple micropore tape both sides , either along with silicone works very well and cheap
you really need to re inflate your hammer
In the video you stated there's a link to the filters used. I didn't see the link. Can you provide the name and vendor?
Yes the company is called Microppose.
microppose.com/r?id=992nf2
Hope that helps!

Really no comments about the dude sneaking past the window =P 7:10
Great videos, Love em.
What’s in all of those buckets with the cheese cloth tops to your left?
Kombucha!

How do you attach the needle cap

Good work man!!
Has puncturing the filter with the syringe ever caused you contamination problems further on down the cultivation road?
Wondering the same.

Maybe a soon in photo of the inside of the lid. … I love prime numbers.. ha
so you can eat spawn grain with a spoon directly from the jar?
For the alternative case i cant get access that one, can i use the fiter paper for coffee filter and double it?
Is no one questioning the curved hammer?
Great vid!
thank you thank you thank you!!!
Why polyfill instead of micropore tape?
Hi! Cotton works as well as the poliéster filter?
Yes, cotton filters work too!
Commenting just to show support for our goofy myco homie
Does any one breed barvaria basiana soil fungus for agriculture ?????
splendid
Watch the window at 7:11 - hilarious
i also like prime numbers.
