@@MycoDogsMan, I can't even tell you how much. I would appreciate it if you would at least make a quick video about how to put that sterilizer together. I ordered the parts. I just don't really have the technical knowledge I'm not finding anything online
Very concise and informative content to a newbie trying to learn as much about this as I can. Between you, 90 second mycology, Bass drop keys and willy mico, I'll have a first full flush in no time! Much love to all you guys inspiring us just getting started!
I'd love to see that induction sterilizer video you mentioned. Got the parts loaded into my Amazon basket, just need the guidance on how it all goes together. Thanks for your work!
Bro, your induction coil sterilization set up is absolutely awesome! I just got my supplies in today to make one! Thank you for sharing and linking the supplies!
I immediately ordered all the supplies. I have no idea how to put this thing together but I'm going to do my best to figure it out. I wish you would have made that video @mycodogs
If you have an old coffee can or something or the sort/size, you can set it on the burner on your stove for a bit to heat up and then melt the hand/arm holes into the SAB. Wont have to worry about cracking the tub either while cutting/drilling!
And I seen how they put the gorilla tape on each side of the hole since it's a big coffee size hole and cut an x in the tape sticky to sticky over the hole like a skirt, maybe not necessary but seems like a good design
Super cool!!! Thank you for sharing this awesome information!!!! Would love to see a video on the induction heater.. Really beautiful rhizomorphic mycelium on that plate!!!!
Man frfr, I have been a part of the community and a hobbyist mycologist for some years. But this is the thing is I have a Flow hood, also a FFU, and my old friend my Still Air Box. My SAB has been old faithful. Heck I have the FH, and my FFU. And still this I use my SAB for certain things, small jobs. Lol PLUS I HAVE HER ROCK SLAPS EVERYWHERE. I GOT MY FH COVERED IN THEM TO!!!! Man they look great. But my FFU is clean no slaps on her. But I agree 100% with everything you covered. I do certain things like you, but some other I do different. Plus you showed me some things to try out myself. Keep up the great work.
I don’t use alcohol inside the SAB anymore, because I have a strong UV-C light inside. I turn it on for 15 minutes to sterilize the inside of the SAB before I start working, and turn it off when I have to sit next to it, or else I would go blind, lol. Then I use alcohol on everything that enters the SAB before I put it through the arm holes. Never had anything contaminated since I started doing it this way. I even let Petri dishes harden/cool without the lids on inside the box, so I avoid condensation, and just have the UV-C light turned on the entire time the lids are off. 😊
I do as well, but you have to are sure nothing living is in the room when using the light. And I still use alcohol as a backup. I’ve never experienced contamination.
What are the dimensions of the SAB? The tubs that you listed are definitely not big enough. I just don't want to waste any money getting a box that's too small and you have no link for one.
Yo im trying to get to know as mush as possible before beginning to even try to grow my own mushies and damn youre videos are amazing keep it up!!! i learned so much already
Quite a few explosions have occurred when flame sterilising needles inside still air boxes. If the alcohol vapour is in the right proportions with the air (upper/lower explosion limit), then it will ignite/explode. So, be careful and only use the minimum amount of alcohol when wiping down surfaces, and no open flames.
It's pretty easy to have low contamination rates with a SAB if you're already in a fairly clean environment, but only a laminar flow setup will still give you low contamination rates in less than ideal conditions as well. I rent an old house in Florida with windows that are overlapping glass strips. I can clean the house from top to bottom, run an air purifier 24/7, and have the sterile technique of an open heart surgeon and a SAB still gives me 65%+ contamination because no matter what, there's a constant supply of contamination entering the house. Nearly zero contamination with a FFU.
Ive been having very good results working in open air. Just shutting the bathroom door with a towel at bottom and turning on a hot shower till steam covers everything and spraying the air around and over me with alcohol and quickly bang it out. Im bout to make a diy flowhood i think just to reduce the occasional failure. The most important parts imo is making sure your grains are fully sterelized, fully colonized, and your substrate isnt to wet.👍
Flipping the lid over...so simple and easy, sure wish I'd seen this video when I started. Drilling holes in lids is a pain. Where do you get rye grain berries and are they worth the expense? I've had pretty good success with popcorn.
Off topic of the video, but what type of lighting and how much for the all in one grow bags? Trying to remain reasonable on price as I am new to this. Thanks for any help and really enjoying the channel. Scratch that. Just went to the discord channel and that was the most recent post.🤣
Appreciate the video! Compact and full of information! Never the less, because we are in the topic sterile workflow, does somebody have any tips on putting the grainspawn into bulk in a monotub in the most steril way possible. Its my first time soon and i am a bit paranoid about Contamination. Obviously i dont have a flow tube neither a Still Air Box big enough to but my Monotub in.
Thank you for infos. Do you say that the liquid culture jar doesnt need a filter to breath? This means that i can make a needle biopsy, suck some sterilized liquid and air into it and mycelium can grow inside the syringe?
Thx Bloke, much appreciated. Best thing i did , was make a SAB, before i even colonized my 1st rice bag :)..Makes good sense..makes good practice. Also, tyvm for the diff tech tips, agar plates etc. Some great ideas/best practice strategies. Cya down in the Lab..BLACK TAR GANG! 😎💨💨🖤💯🤘
Hey, i appericiate your Video, thanks for all the practical information. I got one question. You said you wouldnt recommend growing mushrooms for a profit. Can you explain why ? You can start with a relatively low budget and if you work clean you get constant results. Im thinking about delivering my mushrooms fresh to the local gastronomy of my village. Why cant you recommend ? Or cant you just recommend it for the us ?
Having the flow hood just removes most of those prep step, it's a huge comfort increase. Of course it comes at a cost, I'd say mine cost around 300€ to build, most of that coming from the fan and filter
I'm not saying anything bad about flow hoods, they make workflow faster and easier especially at scale, just most people don't need to spend that much money especially when just getting into the hobby and if they are experiencing contams in an SAB its not because of equipment its more due to their technique and preparations
Too cut the holes use a razor blade and vice grips and a torch.. clamp the blade at and angle away from you hest the blade till red hot and cut like butter
Curious - I'm curious, you said at around 1:53 min that you don't encourage others to grow mushrooms for profit. Why did you say that? That was an odd comment to throw in there...
How do you draw your LC without air exchange? I can only ever get one or 2 before it starts trying to equalize pressure and it sucks air in through the injection port, causing contamination
@lukeblizzard5909 it gets kinda difficult but i just hold the slide back when i extract it it gets to a point of waters vapor pressure where it wont get harder to pull after that
I personally haven't had any issues using it directly after spraying (i do it basically every time i use it) so its definitely a lot safer than an open flame but there could be some edge cases that could ignite the fumes so still be careful
Newb here. Why do people sterilize everything with alcohol but always use heat for the blade? Can you just use alcohol? I'm sure there's a reason. I'm just curious.
alcohol doesn't sterilize, it sanitizes. to be considered sterile it needs to be devoid of ALL life, isopropyl takes care of like 99.9% of it but that 0.01% means a ton when ur talking about sterility. Nothing survives heat so if u heat the blade you can be sure theres no bacteria endospores or anything hiding on it
Very interested in how you built/installed that induction coil. Would love to see a video on that. Great work as always!

Yo dude! Just gotta say the advise and information you gave me when I first started has been so helpful!. I appreciate you! Borf!
Id love to see the setup on that induction sterilizer the only diy videos I can find don’t use a pedal and I want to incorporate it for sure.
video tutorial for the induction sterilizer, I love it 🙏🙌
This is very well thought out and described. Thanks!
Would definitely love to see a assemble video on that induction coil fr
I'm currently building the GordoTek "flowhood" My place is pretty humid and dusty. Great video btw
Great video
Damn that induction sterilizer looks awesome
This is a fantastic video, your technique is masterful
FYI, Those Sterlite Containers have 2 Holes at the lid level near the handles and make great connections to air tubing and air stone in water vases.
Totally interested in DIY induction coil sterilizer video. Thanking you in advance :)

yea ive done transfers just on my desk and they work if ur careful
Used a industrial led work light and it is connected to a remote switch so I can "no touch" operate it.

Those induction coils are cheap if you know how to make one. Use a zvs and a coil with center tap.
Looking to get a SAB for tissue culture. I found this video super helpful. I'm very interested in the induction sterilizer. It's absolutely brilliant.
Great video man, lots of good tips.
Really helpful video, thanks! Love the background music too! Subbed
i keep my plates upside down as well while i transfer.. got the idea from you
the myco gods sent us a genius furry to teach us his secrets

Nice to see you! Peace!
Excellent information. Many Thanks
Working in front of a ffu is such a QOL improvement. I hated working in a SAB
I'm gonna make a check list using what you said it's so perfect thanks
This is great, thank you. Subscribed.
Love the patience and motivation you put out to us jumping in the community. Thank you! 🎃💪🏾
I’m very interested in how to build the induction coil into the SAB, appreciate if you can make a video about it! Mush Love ❤️

I have a 1000watt induction heater it only cost about 48$ years ago. So i know there are cheap ones.
Awesome video thanks my bruda!
6:40 sounds like you discovered a flash sterilization method 😂

i dont recommend it because in the majority of locations they will lock you in a cage if they find out
Great video thanks
To put my hand holes in, I heated the top of a coffee can on the stove and melted the holes through. ..Nice and smooth with no cracks.
Look for the video on the induction sterilizer. Id like to know how to make it. Please make a video or share the link where i can find it. Mush love
Thumbnail says "DUBUNKED" instead of "DEBUNKED". Just mentioning it if you feel like fixing it haha. Grest video, thanks a lot 👍

@@MycoDogs That's fair
I spray a lot 70% iso in sab when i using it so the voltage heating still safe in that case ?
Great video!
Too cut the holes use a razor blade and vice grips and a torch.. clamp the blade at and angle away from you hest the blade till red hot and cut like butter
Dude. I love you ❤️
Really excellent info done well b
Curious - I'm curious, you said at around 1:53 min that you don't encourage others to grow mushrooms for profit. Why did you say that? That was an odd comment to throw in there...
Adding a bleach towel to the bottem of the sab works wonders
I mean it doesn't look like anything is clean in this video. Yet I trust that it is
Wouldnt go back to a SAB after using my flowhood for the past year! Way less tams and way more convenient!
Are you able to replace filters in laminar?
Can a grow tent be used for doing lab work if the exhaust fan is blowing clean air in through the HEPA filter?
It might be better to seal the tent, run the filter inside it for like 30 min then shut it off and wait til the clean air is still in there
How do you draw your LC without air exchange? I can only ever get one or 2 before it starts trying to equalize pressure and it sucks air in through the injection port, causing contamination
i use a thick layer of RTV silicone as my gasket it seals pretty well but they do wear out eventually and allow air in
@@MycoDogs how do you deal with the pressure difference? It gets sooooo hard to draw liquid from the jars I have with good seals if they aren't vented
@lukeblizzard5909 it gets kinda difficult but i just hold the slide back when i extract it it gets to a point of waters vapor pressure where it wont get harder to pull after that
excellent info
Diy induction sterilizer! 😮
If reuse-able glass petri dishes are sterilised in a pressure canner, how to get them into a bag for later use without contamination?
I wrap them in tin foil and keep it wrapped til I use them
@@MycoDogs Brilliant, thankyou.
Wish i had watched this befire ordering everytbing to build a lam flow hood. Guess ill use both methods. My first attemot at reishis.
Flow hoods are definitely a good quality of life upgrade especially if ur doing a lot of work
7:24 It is able to start the alcohol to burning isnt't it? What is visibly glowing hot that is well over 500C degree.
good stuff!
Biggest problem for me is reading to be graduations on the syringe when using a still air box
Is it safe to use the induction sterilizer after you spray Isopropyl?
I personally haven't had any issues using it directly after spraying (i do it basically every time i use it) so its definitely a lot safer than an open flame but there could be some edge cases that could ignite the fumes so still be careful
Even when making money doing this, a glove box can be enough of a steh·ruhl solution. But I built a flow hood because the box is annoying af.
Thanks!!
Noobs HATE him for this one simple trick
Are you sure clean rooms aren't sterile? I'm almost certain the clean rooms at a chip fab are completely sterile.
i know they are very very very clean but I'm sure there are 1 or two stray cells floating around the room, sterile means zero life at all anywhere
Newb here. Why do people sterilize everything with alcohol but always use heat for the blade? Can you just use alcohol? I'm sure there's a reason. I'm just curious.
