I just want to thank y’all for what y’all do man. I had the Mizuno 921 forged and was playing okay and my confidence was shot. Traded them in for the Srixon ZX5…. Today I played my best round in months. Thanks again for the information you guys provide. I approve the ZX5 they are amazing!
Awesome comparison. I’ve been following your channel for about 3-4 years now and in May 2021 I was custom fit for 2019 Titleist T-200’s at your DE store by Tom H. Awesome experience! Top notch. These were a “Pre owned” set, like new condition, 4-GW with Tensei Red graphite regular flex shafts which were cut down 1/2 in short and bent 1 deg flat. They have an amazing soft feel when hit on the sweet spot BUT off center they give a loud cracking noise which is annoying. Makes me want to hit it on center more which is a great thing but let’s face it I’m a single figure handicap 6.2 at the moment and I don’t middle it all the time. Off center shots still perform good, they are very forgiving with all that tungsten in the heel and toe so I’m happy about that. Later this year or spring next year I need to compare them to Mizuno JPX 921 forged.
After trying a number of these clubs in a fitting I got a set of ZX5's with Project X shafts. The flight, the feel, the look and dispersion is all great.
Been loking for mizuno MP and JPX series here and there, trying different shafts. One day, visited a shop with a srixon zx5 demo club. Tried it, and it went straight into my bag. Amazing irons, best feel and consistency for me. A Mizuno fan boy just switched to Srixon irons.
I choose the JPX921 forged all day! I was between the mp20 mmc and forged ended up with the forged. I do wish they were at least one degree weak. I don't need extra distance. I guess I could always get them bent
Just got fitted for the P-790s, I was previously playing the Callaway steelhead Xrs with a stiff shaft at 90g. I went for my fitting and Im walking out with a 130g X. A lot changes in 3 years I guess! But this video really made me confident in my choice with the P-790, thanks for the video guys!
I ordered the Srixon ZX5 irons with the Modus3 120 stiff shaft from 2nd Swing and I absolutely love these irons. They really deliver on both looks and feel. I was kinda on the fence because they don't get the attention compared to the bigger brands, but man I'm glad I did my research and went with Srixon.
@@ApriliaRacer14 No, I didn't hit them before ordering. Watched a ton of iron comparison reviews and did my research. Glad I did because they feel amazing.
All of these irons in this category are pretty damn good. I recently upgraded to the ping i500 Orange dot with stiff modus shaft from AP 1 and they have been great. The ball flight, looks, and playability are the biggest highlights for me to report back.
Just had a fitting and went in with an open mind. Narrowed down to the zx5, p790 and jpx 921 forged. All were really nice to hit but think I will go with the srixon. Your video helped. Cheers
Great review, I just upgraded my Wilson D200’s to the Cobra Forged Tech………… omg the difference in technology with new irons is just astonishing! I kid you not when you flush a 6 iron and get 220 yards wow, for me a mid to high handicapper I want to feel shots through the hands, with these irons you get that and more. My game already feels more in control, dropping a club size knowing I can get distance even at reduced swing speed…………… why did I wait so long to change , onwards and upwards 😉
I just got my forged TEC last week and know exactly how you feel. They're amazing and feel even better!! I have absolutely no trouble getting them to stop on greens and love the control I get with them. They're game changers to me! Good luck with yours man. I hope you continue to enjoy them and I genuinely hope they help you enjoy the game even more.
Did you get fitted for them(is that something that is heavily recommended) or did you just buy them standard or OL or whatever? I'm kind of a noob so looking for some advice :)
Didn’t get fitted , bought them secondhand mint condition just perfect !! After a few rounds getting use to them………. Fav club in the bag the 6 iron, off the tee last Sunday 230 yards, 4 iron longest so far 270………… not bad for a 27 handicap ! Every round now makes you feel so much more confident with your shot selection………… just fantastic 😁
I’m glad I found your channel, you have been teaching me so much and sparking the next level in my passion for the game. I am just starting to shop around for the next iron set, it’s time to retire the Ping Eye 2’s and enter the 21st century.
Thx Guys! Great comparison!! I got fitted for the i500 with the Nippon Modus 3 105Tour stiff shaft 2 years ago and I still love them. The foregivness is just awesome with the i500, yes they are a little louder at impact, but even the feeling for me with the Nippon shaft is just pure butter.
Interesting that the Srixon rose toward the top across the board on performance against all the major equipment makers, a serious contender for consideration for sure
I game the JPX921 tours right now. But as I approach my mid 40’s I’m starting to lean towards a slightly bigger blade with better forgiveness and length. I hit those ZX5’s and damn are they nice. If I can succumb to my ego and fear of offset I think I might be making a switch to being a Srixon fanboy soon.
What the? The “outlier” removed from Srixon was a shot on or near the center line. The one off to the left should/could have been removed instead. If you remove the true outlier Srixon absolutely dominated on dispersion.
just got the zx5 with elevate shaft. the head is forgiving and butter. i dont need elevate though, need deelavate...reshafting to c taper i think.....found new set in plastic listed as used so had to jump on it....
So, from my view, when you have a 10yd differential between carry distance and total, that makes it seems much more difficult to land and stay on a green, especially with difficult pin locations.
Really good content in this as in all your reviews, wanted to add the over view of shot hight and disbursement is much better keep that view moving forward please
So this is awesome, but imo, you should repeat the swings 3 times so that you can see if those dispersions are accurate over time. Still really awesome.. was leaning Mizuno, but the left bias of the TaylorMade is interesting vs the right bias of the Mizuno.. i dont need to hit any more fades
Got fitted this past week and it came down to the Srixon ZX5'S and the Ping G 425's. Both were way better than my Wilson 100's, and the new Wilson's. Both hit consistently straight and long and each looked terrific and confidence boosting. The numbers for me slightly tilted to the Ping side, so I am eagerly waiting for my custom Ping G 425's to be shipped to my fitter! My advice is to go to a fitter and find out which club performs best for you. I also got a better price there than getting them online at any warehouse.
Why did you take the 5 yd shot right from the ZX5 and leave the 17 Yd left outlier in the mix. This can be seen at 13:41 and 7:03 respectively. If you disregard the left-most shot it was a tighter group. Simply a question. Loved the video comparison and the Robotic swing control that you always bring to the party Thomas. Look forward to more.🦾❤
Loved the video, very helpful as I’m trying to learn as much as possible before buying a new set. Why is the sound so important? Or what are you looking for in an iron?
Looks like the Mizuno and the Srixon are pretty much the same. With a larger sample size, I imagine the variance between the two would be less than 2 percent across the board.
I'm in the market for some new irons.... I've narrowed it down to King forged TEC, apex 21, and zx5. The forged TEC feel very light compared to the jpx 921 forged which were on my list. I'm leaning towards apex 21. But then the other two keep creeping back into my mind.
I would think they would generate more spin, I currently play the 2019 P790 and for the 7 iron I get around 6400 rpm of spin, and similar ball speed but only carry it around 170
The P790 irons in general don't spin much. Thomas doesn't generate much spin as it is with his irons...it can certainly be higher depending on the swing
It looks like you should have taken out the shot that went left for the Srixon. Was there a reason you kept it and took one out of the cluster of center shots?
Exactly right. If you compare Srixon's dispersion maps at 8:10 and 12:12 you can see that they left in the shot pulled way left, and instead removed the shot on the right which can not even be thought of as an outlier. If the shot to the left had been removed, Srixon's dispersion would have been substantially better than any other club in this test.
Great test guys. That Srixon impressed big time. Would Wilson D7 Forged be another option? I know you can’t hit too many, but would love to see how it stacks up against these as it is also 31 deg loft
Cobra not getting any love. Just my opinion but they are the best looking club out of the 7. Feel and sound are subjective but all the reviews I've read and watched on the tec said they were the best feeling and sounding irons out there.
@@2ndswing I actually received my set of Cobra Forged TEc today, didn't get to hit them much but they do have a very nice sound and feel. Look wise, I was kind of surprised coming from the Apex cf19 smoke irons that the Cobra's topline was thicker. That being said for those mid-handicap golfers that kind of shy away from players irons, definitely give the Cobra's a try, very confident inspiring when you look down at them.
Excellent video guys. A question: I was at a Taylormade fitting and they recommended the 790's with the KBS C taper lite 105. I prefer the ZX5's. I can get them with the KBS shafts. Do you think the shafts in the Srixons will give me similar results as the 790's? I do need more height and distance as I'm older. Thanks.
Ping i500 is now discontinued. You can no longer purchase new fitted irons in this model. I went in wanting the i500 and left with the TaylorMade P770s.
Forgive me but I just watched this video and have a question on the sole of the ZX5 iron. What type of player is this sole for or can anybody play it? Is it that big of a difference that a certain player shouldn't use it?
The sole has a design called the V.T. sole allowing for smoother turf interaction which is great for a steeper attack angle to get through the turf. With that said it's also great for a shallower swing too the benefit is the ability to get through the turf - Thomas
Dale, Great question here. The Tour VT sole on the Srixon Zx5 is user-friendly, across all swing-styles. However, in the Tour Van, I have seen players who have a steeper angle of attack benefit more from the VT sole than a player that is relatively shallow. -Danny
The problem in the UK is we are limited to how many different brands you can try and given a time limit. You would need a full day to try these amount of clubs.
Fitters should be able to lead you down the correct path after learning about your game and seeing your shot tendencies. From there they can choose 2-3 irons heads and allow you to compare. You definitely don't need to hit every different brand. At 2nd Swing an iron fitting is 1 hour in length for good reason... fatigue. 2-3 iron heads to compare, 2-3 shafts & lie angle adjustments can be done withing 40 swings. - Thomas
I somehow dont think the real yardages are 195 for 7 i, it would require near 1.5 smash for every hit with that clubspeed.. I hit similar speed and average around 170 - 175 yards with my smash factors.
@@janikoskimies5174 Same results for me - but I am hitting 10 year old irons with a 33.5 degree loft and whatever archaic technology. I've never hit the new generation so I'm curious if these power bats really do function as ICBMs.
Hello I’m fairly new to golf and have only used one set of clubs, when they talk about the loudness of the irons does that mean anything performance wise?
That's a great question! Generally, irons that are larger in size are also louder. Additionally, an iron head with a hollow construction is also louder. Larger and/or hollow irons are usually pretty explosive off the clubface and provide good distance. However, they may not be as consistent. Could hit a shot square that goes 140 yards, and hit another one square that goes 155 yards with the same club.
I recently traded a friend a set of Ping G710’s for the King Forged Tec. Haven’t played them enough to know what to expect. What are your thoughts on the two?
Forged Tec will give more ball speed and distance on possibly a lower trajectory while the G710's really launch the ball high and are more forgiving - Thomas
@@2ndswing You are the expert and you know which clubs would be best to make the comparison. I don’t think the average woman driver has enough loft on them. Most of them are 12.5 that you can adjust about 14. But for senior women I think they need more like 15 to 16. I will leave out the choices of clubs to you. Thanks for getting back to me. I really enjoy your testing is very helpful

I don’t agree with mizuno dispersion circle seems excessive
I went to 921 forged from Srixon 765 and my dispersion improved greatly.
No Miura's , honmas or pxgs?
Love these comparison videos. Come to Connecticut.
Thanks for watching!! Our closest store is in Wilmington, DE 😬
What golf ball did you use for testing?
Titleist Pro V1x. Thanks for watching!!
leaving out the PXG irons obviously so they all dont get destroyed...
Great video, thank u
Very interesting and helpful. Have you ever thought about testing women’s clubs?
We would love to complete a women's irons comparison and have a women complete this for you. What clubs are you interested in?
@@2ndswing You are the expert and you know which clubs would be best to make the comparison. I don’t think the average woman driver has enough loft on them. Most of them are 12.5 that you can adjust about 14. But for senior women I think they need more like 15 to 16. I will leave out the choices of clubs to you. Thanks for getting back to me. I really enjoy your testing is very helpful
Solid, powerful swing by Thomas
Good test guys👍
Thank you for watching!
I hate that you did this video! This is my iron category, and I love my apex/apex pro 19 combo set. I just assembled it custom to me...but I want all of these sets! They’re new and incredible and it’s so difficult not buying new clubs
Haha! Congrats on your new irons! Sounds like you are set for a while on those!!! Always remember we offer the highest value in trade ins to help offset the price of new clubs! Thank you for watching!
@@2ndswing huge fan on the channel. Thomas is literally a machine when it comes to the testing that you do. You guys do an awesome job, and a lot of us out here appreciate your work. Next time I’m in the market for a club, I will be contacting you guys!

Thomas is a machine!
Most golfers do not hit 7iron 200 yards. Your assessments are only useful for professionals
Perfect timing
Thank you for watching!
Looks like i’m goin to change my blade to player distance iron
Let us know how it goes! They help a lot! Thank you for watching!
Standard lie doesnt mean anything as each brand has a different standard lie angle
These numbers are ridiculous. By these numbers you will have to hit a lob wedge from 0 to 150 yards.
forged tec terrible
