Wilson is not big in golf, but very big in sports generally. And you know what they make most…balls. World class footballs, basketballs, tennis balls, name a sport and they makes balls for it, including golf balls.
Thank you Pete ,for not automatically choosing the Pro V1 like so many people and channels. It's getting a bit boring..Because( To use your own words ):"other manufacturers are available" 😊. Greeting from a Vice Pro guy!
$12 a dozen on Rock Bottom Golf and one of the best balls you can play. The Spalding SD Tour 3 piece Urethane TPU cover ball. People playing big name balls are suckers.
Was pulling for the Wilson Staff! I played the Wilson “TRUE” ball back in the day which I loved! TP5 amazing ball so good choice. I do love how Wilson seems to be putting out relevant golf balls and clubs again and should continue to push others in the market. Great content Peter and crew!
I will be the outlier in this thread. I am a 3 who hits solid drives 275 (getting older!). I have used the Taylor, Callaway and Bridgestone and will now test the Wilson but always come home to the Titleist. Such a well rounded ball that always feels right - particularly around the greens and putting.
I’ve moved to the Wilson, for the most part, from the ProV1 and the TP5x. It’s such a phenomenal ball for my game and the price point is a nice little sweetener. Great vid mate ⛳️🏌🏽
Nice! Great review, Pete! I normally play the TP5Pix and I LOVE the feel of this ball! The Pro V1 is my second choice, and honestly I prefer the ERC Soft Triple Track whenever I play a 9-hole course.
Awesome video! PLEASE do consider a mid-range / budget test for the future! Not everyone can afford $50-$70+ per dozen balls, and with all the extra options targeting the critical $30 to $40 per dozen range (i.e. the balls you get for $20 a dozen on sale), knowing which ball to get can be significantly more complicated.
Try the Maxfli Tour X (4 piece ball). I played the Pro V1 and Pro V1x for 20+ years. I didn’t notice a drop off in performance. You can find them at Dick’s Sporting Goods two dozen for $70 or four dozen for $120. One box is $40. They also carry the Tour and Tour S which are 3 piece balls. Haven’t tried those yet but they have different trajectories, feel and spin rates as I’ve read.
Vice is the best "cheap" ball. Grab some pro softs for 30 bucks and have a blast. Tbh, unless you're single digit or better, don't buy expensive balls. Or if you only lose 2-3 per round.
I love the TP5 pix. That won its place in my bag, after I tested 10 different golf balls over half of this past season. I found that it offered me the most Control and forgiveness, without sacrificing durability or distance. Thank you once again for a fun video, Peter. Keep up the great work, cheers!
Interesting to see how next year's Wilson balls will perform seeing as they are coming out with a standard and an "X" model. I wonder if they are going to be significantly different like the Chrome Softs or more similar like the ProV1s.
I just bought 3 dozen Wilson Staff Tour Yellow for around £76 ie about £2 per ball- that's what makes it a winner or me. I normally play PRO V1 yellow which is an awesome golf ball, but at £4 per ball hurts when I lose it 🙂 I have tried most of the golf balls in your list- none of them disappoint- I would say that probably the biggest factor in choosing a golfball is how you want it to feel when you are putting or chipping not any of the long shots.
I play TP5 having switched as an experiment from Vice Pro. Both are great golf balls, but the TP5 seems a touch more stable in wind and definitely feels as though it spins a bit more
Big fan of the Vice Pro Plus. Particularly the lime green (which isn’t for everyone) but it is so visible and gets even more so when the light drops. The only slight grumble I have is the cover wears a bit on wedges and bunker shots but all in all it’s a very good ball, especially since it can come in £20 cheaper per dozen than the other premium balls
I’ve been playing the Vice Pro Plus (green) as well for the past year… LOVE IT! Not necessarily the most durable ball but that’s about the only negative aspect I can see…
Used Bridgestone for a long time and switched to the TP5 a few years ago. Can’t play with any other golf ball. For me, the results are great. Feel nice around the green, and soft when putting. Great product.
For my game, the Srixon Q Star Divide is the most durable, longest, and best golf ball I've played. The cover seems to be different than other Q Stars and something about it makes it more durable. It was also noticeably longer off the tee and super easy to find. Not ashamed to say it was my favorite ball to play and really fun to watch while in the air. Almost comically fun.
SHHHHHHH!!!!! What the HELL is wrong with you... please, tell them ANY other ball, not the DIVIDE. We DO NOT want that ball to get well known.😂😂😂 My choice is the orange/yellow Best ball, feels great, putts like a dream, and STOPS on the green. Long as hell too. Wait, did I say all that out loud?? Best
I think the reason he used the Srixon Z Star and picked the TP5 is just cause it gets more spin and aren't just distance golf balls. Great to see you found something that helps specifically your game!
Staff Model muuntuu kahdeksi ensi vuonna. Staff Model X tulee olemaan aikalailla nykyistä vastaava, ehkä hieman kovempi. Staff Model taasen on nykyistä pehmeämpi, Triad:n kaltainen, joskin lähipelissä tuottaa enemmän spiniä.
Been playing the Wilson Staff model exclusively for the last year and, although I mostly buy from Reuse Golf Balls, it’s a fantastic golf ball. Deserved top spot really, especially at its price 😉
Entertaining and informative. As a high handicap golfer, I shot my lowest round this past week of 84 with a TP5 Pix. Previously I had played ProV1 and Snell MTB for the past 3 years. I am sold on the Taylor Made TP5 and truly appreciate a thorough analysis supporting my personal choice. Well done, Peter!
I’m currently on staff with Wilson being an Assistant Pro at my club, I love everything about the staff model. I believe this ball is the best ball in the world.
The ball you are most confident with is the ball you should play. I would like to see the mental side of golf explored more, I know there is no way to get solid evidence of the mental game's results, but if you stand over a shot and think you have the right club and the right ball for the shot it simply has to be better then if you have the slightest doubt about either one.
Hearing you talk about the TP5 is exactly what I found aswell. They seem to get more spin around the green with chip shots and shorter pitches for me, while still going 3-5 further than any other ball I tested it against. Great ball overall and in my back for a couple of years now aswell.
Handicap of 11.8 and I play either the Kirkland signature or Callaway hex soft. Can get 2 dozen of either of them for 30 odd quid and I find them good for distance as well as short game . Would be interested to know Pete's opinion on them
I switched to the pro plus a couple years ago, and I'm definitely a believer. To me, it feels almost identical to the proV1x, but it doesn't scar up as easily. I also tend to get a much better flight out of the ball compared to other balls that I've used. Fewer off fairway hits, and a little more distance. If I could switch out balls when on the green, I would probably use the pro soft. I love how that feels on the green.
Thanks for such an scientific approach Pete, so many data you put in this review thruought one year just stunning 💪👏👏👏 we appreciate you and your humour 😁
I am a mid handicap only occasional golfer. I started using the Wilson/Staff golf ball the last few times I went out and could immediately tell the difference. Shots went farther and were more accurate. I am loving them. Especially since they are less expensive than some of the top brands.
Good stuff, very surprised with the Wilson Staff but not surprised you ended with the TaylorMade. I am not in the market for the top premium balls (don’t have the game or the budget) but I have got to love the TaylorMade Tour Response, especially the Stripe. It seems to give me the best feel, distance and spin over all the balls I’ve used and I love the visuals, especially lining up putts. I did use the pix for a while but the Tour Response seems softer and more responsive to me.
Wilson have often made some great balls. I still have a few dozen wilson fg tour when they used to so do x outs for about 1.50 a ball. Love the feel for short game.
I just started playing the maxfli tour. I'm a 15ish handicap golfer. 80 was my previous best round. I played 18 holes this past Saturday with the maxfli and shot a 1 under 71. It has the distance, great stopping power on iron shots, and feels amazing off the putter. Not saying the ball is the reason I shot 71, but it's definitely gonna stay in the bag for a while. Plus it's 60 dollars for 2 dozen 🤷
I was an anomaly for sure. That day everything just went my way. Drove it good, hit a lot of greens, chipped well and lag putted great. Since then my best is 76 and I'm thinking I'm closer to a 10 handicap. I usually shoot low to mid 80s
But yeah, it doesn't make sense that I shoot 88 and a week later a 71 and a week after that 84. I'll probably never shoot under par again, but I did once 🤷
First of all, yes love it I’ve been looking for this kind of stuff on TH-cam but secondly I have some suggestions. asking Golf companies to send you a ball and them knowing that it’s a promotional material. They have all live in the incentive to send you a much higher quality premium product that is actually available in your local pro shop so I think it would be good to get fans to send a box of premium golf balls they’ve bought and tell you the location so that you can get across the world map of which countries have the best golf balls say Scotland, for instance. Also, the golf balls should be tested with good golf clubs and bad golf clubs to see if there is a better ball for a worse club.
Nice. The biggest problem with testing golf balls in the simulator is that it can’t easily test for the dimple pattern design and aerodynamics. It gives ball speed and spin rate cut calculates based on a generic dimple pattern aerodynamic (probably Pro V1) for it. I’ve heard the TP5 is better in the wind - hence would carry differently than what it shows on a simulator. Higher spin on driver but with smaller dimples might carry just as far. Wilson used to have a golf ball with TC2 (or truncated cone squared) shallow dimples which was designed to be less affected the wind.
No Maxfli? I used to play those 20 years ago, great ball and value. Glad to see Wilson perform, their Irons are really good and not too expensive compared to the big names. I'm hoping to get a brand new set this spring and I'll be looking at Wilson for sure for Irons as I don't play much anymore It's hard to justify $1,300.00 for a set of Irons.
The TP5 pix is my go to ball. Absolutely love that ball and gives me confidence, even if it doesn't always go right! Agree with other comments though - the ball you have the most confidence with is the ball you should play, regardless of make, model or looks.
Been playing a few different balls out of Vice’s lineup for a few seasons now. The pro plus made the final cut though, love the ball and the different colors/designs they can come in. And for the price, sold sold sold
My stack of boxes of TP5s (and Tour B XS) approve of this test. Ha ha. The Vice Pro and Pro Plus I've found on courses have really impressed me too. Definitely adding the Wilsons to my future shopping lists now... Great vid, Pete.
TP5 is a good ball but it’s short! My golf Spy confirmed my thoughts on this. It spins really good though! I switched from tp5 to Chromesoft x ls and I swear I gained 10 yards off the tee! No loss in stopping power.
Well obviously - you should play the TP5x if the Chrome Soft X gave you better numbers. I was similar found TP5 too skinny but no question TP5x is the longest ball I’ve ever played and I have played them all - and it seems like wind doesn’t even affect it which is an added bonus
Now if only I could afford the TP5. I would say price alone would have helped me decide that one. I look at the top 5 you chose and I chose the Vice Pro Plus, due to price and availability to make it unique!
loved that you did this test. I would love to see the same type test done for a 85-90mph swing speed and using maybe a softer compression type ball series. Love to see the "wilson" getting recognition too because I see a lot of great quality and value in their products. Love the Wilson Zip balls.
Bridgestone Tour is a great ball. Great performance from the few I've found in the woods. But I stocked up on Pro V1, Pro V1x and Left Dash during the pandemic so I'm good for the next 5 years, just in time for the roll-back, lol.
Great video once again Finchy! A brand I'd love to see you review at some point is Snell! Been using the MTB X for the last 8 months and honestly wouldn't go back to anything else now! Particularly for the price! 😉👍
Interesting that Wilson have progressed so much you also were impressed with their Dynapower Carbon Driver could this be a turning point for them. Would love to see them used more on the tours.
For the first time in my life, I decided to buy a dozen new balls for my first overseas golf trip to the Algarve last week!! I prefer a softer feeling ball but didn't want to give up anything off the tee. After using most of the top brands (when found!), I narrowed it down to the Bridgestone Tour B XS, Srixion Z Star and TP5. In the end, I went with the TP5 Pix and it was perfect and no complaints in any department!! 😃
I still have a big box of Bridgestone made in Japan Balls they are excellent ball and feel, when they started producing them here in the United States the same ball felt really hard and I hated them.. My other favorite ball believe it or not I know there's going to be haters is Taylor made Noodle.. 🍜
2023 version of the Srixon Z-Star Diamond is absolutely next level. It's like the Bridgestone Tour B X/B XS and Pro V1/V1x had a baby and made a freak of a product. Does everything you want it to do with each club.
Oh man that was a great review Peter Way to give the little guys a little bit more of a shout out. I'm going to be buying some Wilson golf balls as soon as I get out on the course
I think the only thing the tp5 is missing, is the option of the stripe that’s offered in the tour response. I’ve tried all sorts, from pro v1, Wilson triad (really nice ball actually), tp5, the x versions of the pro v and tp5, srixon z star, tour response, Kirkland, vice. Always gravitate back to the tp5. Such a great ball.
I 100% agree that the Taylormade TP5 is an amazing golf ball. Great flight, feel, spin, visibility, and appearance are top-notch. I always have these in the bag.
Great video! I'd love to see you add a cost breakdown on those balls when it comes to dispersion & distance. Like if the Pro-Plus is $3 per ball and the Pro-V1 is $5 a golf ball. How much are you paying for the extra distance. Maybe also consider doing what that cost is worth? I see something like the Vice Pro-Plus as the clear winner. I probably go through around 12 dozen balls per year. That's probably about $400 in savings per year. In my area that is at least 3 golf lessons which could most likely improve my handicap and average score vs paying extra for a pro-v1 for 2% better dispersion and 2 yards on my drive.
Kirkland (Costco) $1.46 each TP5 $3.75 each Given the state of my game (lost balls adds a significant percentage of the price to any round I play), Kirkland wins every time. 🙂
I have been using the Vice Pro over the past couple of years and my second choice is the T-P5...The T-P5 has a firmer feel, but a great all-round ball...
I played the PXG ball this year and loved it. Durability could have been better but it wasn’t that bad at all. The next ball I want to try is the SEED. I also loved the Vice pro plus….
Hi Pete, have you ever tested the Trust golf balls? I play them, am not a good golfer and at 63 have a slower swing, especially as my spine was recently broken in a car accident. Trust balls feel good off the driver and shorter shots.
Great video! I wish someone would do a test on someone swinging the driver 90mph, compared to 116mph and see how the results differ. Pete, do you think the TP5 is the best ball for a slow swinger? And why?
Please try the z-star diamond ball… i play titleist proV1X because I need the height on my irons, but the diamond ball is probably the best feeling ball I’ve ever tried.
I love the TP5s I find in the woods. Their flight off the tee and back into the trees is mesmerizing.
😂
🤣
Ha ha 😂
😂😂😂😂😂
You're preaching to the choir!
Great to see Wilson doing so well and well done Pete for giving them a chance
It was honestly very good
Wilson is not big in golf, but very big in sports generally. And you know what they make most…balls. World class footballs, basketballs, tennis balls, name a sport and they makes balls for it, including golf balls.
Pete! I’ve been enjoying Wilson Staff balls for under £30 a dozen on Amazon. Now you’ve screwed it! 😂
P.s. they also feel brilliant off the putter
I found a Wilson Staff in the woods and it played marvelously. I am going to buy a dozen.
@@BillytheConbest baseball gloves in the game
Thank you Pete ,for not automatically choosing the Pro V1 like so many people and channels. It's getting a bit boring..Because( To use your own words ):"other manufacturers are available" 😊. Greeting from a Vice Pro guy!
So just choose something else just because?
$12 a dozen on Rock Bottom Golf and one of the best balls you can play.
The Spalding SD Tour 3 piece Urethane TPU cover ball.
People playing big name balls are suckers.
Was pulling for the Wilson Staff! I played the Wilson “TRUE” ball back in the day which I loved!
TP5 amazing ball so good choice.
I do love how Wilson seems to be putting out relevant golf balls and clubs again and should continue to push others in the market.
Great content Peter and crew!
Played the Wilson Staff ball all 2023 season and loved it! Great ball at a fantastic price point

Nice! Great review, Pete!
I normally play the TP5Pix and I LOVE the feel of this ball! The Pro V1 is my second choice, and honestly I prefer the ERC Soft Triple Track whenever I play a 9-hole course.

Agreed. I tested the TP5, Tour B XS, and the Z-Star. The consistency of the TP5 around the greens is undeniable
Got 3 dozen Wilson Staff Model's back in August, really happy with them. Helped that it was 3 for the price of 2!
Interesting to see how next year's Wilson balls will perform seeing as they are coming out with a standard and an "X" model. I wonder if they are going to be significantly different like the Chrome Softs or more similar like the ProV1s.
Love wilson staff balls. Been using them this year and won't be changing.
Love that Wilson made it into one of your top picks played Wilson staff irons for the last 5 years however just moved on to the Srixon zx5 mk ii
I play TP5x, so YES to TP5!! lol. Definitely a great overall golf ball! Thanks for the end of the year ball comparison, Peter! Happy Holidays!!
I have been using the Bridgestone tour B RX and XS for the past year. I love them.
Best balls in golf
Me too, I’ve been playing with the Tour xr so long I remember when they actually spelled Bridgestone instead of the big B
I just bought 3 dozen Wilson Staff Tour Yellow for around £76 ie about £2 per ball- that's what makes it a winner or me. Have you tried the drip model of the Pro Plus? I find that you visually can't see the wear as well on them.
I'm also a fan of the vice lime green.
I’ve been playing the Vice Pro Plus (green) as well for the past year… LOVE IT! Not necessarily the most durable ball but that’s about the only negative aspect I can see…
Love the vice, the wear on the ball isn't a big issue as I go through 6 per round minimum
The cover seems to be different than other Q Stars and something about it makes it more durable. love the wilson. It is slightly clicky in the short game which i like, but still a really nice softish thud feel on irons and driver.

whats your pick for 105-108 club head speed/ Im guessin q star or wilson triad, or erc soft callaway- I tend to put a lot of spin on the driver

Been playing a few different balls out of Vice’s lineup for a few seasons now. The pro plus made the final cut though, love the ball and the different colors/designs they can come in. And for the price, sold sold sold
Absolutely, the Pro Plus is such a great ball.
Glad the editors had a good time with this one😂. Great vid.
Thanks Pete...I'm a 65yr old 10 hdcp...slow-ish swing speed...normally play Pro v1x...shall I try the Wilson or the TP5?
What a well done review! I've been waiting for a video like this. Thank you Peter for putting this together!
Great video once again Finchy!
A brand I'd love to see you review at some point is Snell!
Been using the MTB X for the last 8 months and honestly wouldn't go back to anything else now! Particularly for the price! 😉👍
Came here to say the same!
Ive loved the Bridgestone BXS, glad it made it to the final 5. Chromesoft x and the prov1x
Love it. I had a chance to play the top 5 this year. Wilson took the crown for me, but the prov1 and vice pp also were excellent
love these type of vids peter
Interesting that Wilson have progressed so much you also were impressed with their Dynapower Carbon Driver could this be a turning point for them. Would love to see them used more on the tours.
Awesome video! Fantastically informative with brilliant editing and production value! One of your best yet!
Love this video congrats to TP5 and as a Wilson guy shout out to the Wilson for making it that far😂 Great job Pete and your team.
Nice review and with the usual Peter Finch flair. Good to see a long term test, so many folks test for a few days or even hours. Thank you.
I use the snell mtb x. New model!! Better distance than most balls ive ever played and spins out of bunkers amazingly.
I play the wilson and it's an awesome ball I'm really happy it got down to the final 2 it deserves more recognition 👏
I love the mini montage at 6:41 of Peter missing putts. 🤣 Everybody else in the world shows themselves draining putts from downtown. Not Pete!
Lately ive been gaming the Wilson Staff Zip 302. Love the price/quality ratio.
TP5s i found to scuff to easy 🤷
I still have a big box of Bridgestone made in Japan Balls they are excellent ball and feel, when they started producing them here in the United States the same ball felt really hard and I hated them.. My other favorite ball believe it or not I know there's going to be haters is Taylor made Noodle.. 🍜
2023 version of the Srixon Z-Star Diamond is absolutely next level. It's like the Bridgestone Tour B X/B XS and Pro V1/V1x had a baby and made a freak of a product. Does everything you want it to do with each club.
Yes i do agree im using diamond for this past few month really loved the feel for long n short game previously im using tp5
it's become my new go to ball..Titliest is just getting too pricey
Need to test the Wilson, but I agree on the TP5. Great golf ball.
I've been using the Vice plus for a year. I'm sold. Vice makes great stuff in general. I have a Vice bag. It's great.
Yep, the Vice Pro is the ball of choice for me.
Kirkland (Costco) $1.46 each
TP5 $3.75 each
Given the state of my game (lost balls adds a significant percentage of the price to any round I play), Kirkland wins every time. 🙂
I have been using the Vice Pro over the past couple of years and my second choice is the T-P5...The T-P5 has a firmer feel, but a great all-round ball...
I regularly play the Vice Pro, TP5, ProV1, and Snell MTB. They are virtually indistinguishable to me.
I played the Wilson Staff last year, loved the ball
Vice Pro plus - has my vote. I do want to try the Wilson ball
Tried the PXG recently excellent ball and love the feel around the greens. Good resilience and keeps its colour
Solid content and perspective. Digging the editing too
I love the TP5 Pix. My favourite ball that I play all the time. Cheers mate..
This was great. Would love to see the same thing on second tier balls like the Wilson Triad, Srixon Q star tour, TM tour response, etc.
Been playing vice pro for years now. I think it aligns more to a prov1 and has more spin than the plus. Great video!
Great video! I wish someone would do a test on someone swinging the driver 90mph, compared to 116mph and see how the results differ. Pete, do you think the TP5 is the best ball for a slow swinger? And why?
When I eventually run out of my TP5 balls I'll strongly consider trying out either the z-stars or wilson staff models :) thank you for the video pete!
Please try the z-star diamond ball… i play titleist proV1X because I need the height on my irons, but the diamond ball is probably the best feeling ball I’ve ever tried.
