I first swung a golf club at age 17, now I’m 44 and in all those years I would reach for my 7 iron when I was 150 yards from the green. Consistent and reliable yardage but inconsistent with my alignment. After watching this video I’ve added 30-40 yards on every iron! Now I’m reaching for my pitching wedge to get me on the green from 150 yards not my 7 iron because that’s landing about 185 yards away now. This video has given me so much confidence in my irons I just leave my driver in the bag and swing my irons because they go straight and long. Thank you Danny!

Been working really hard at hitting irons better this summer of '23. I watched your work with Peter Cowan and numerous others. Been applying the "hit" more with the right as Peter describes but I don't own it yet, at least not fully. But what has worked is "lagging" the club head and shoulders. This alone gives me time to move the hips toward the target and back up at the same time. The left leg presses down at first and then up for a nice finish.
Yesterday was by far one of the very best sessions at the range. Striking my 9 iron so well that I was passing my 125 yd. target, with range balls. With a ProV1 on a warm day with little moisture in the air it would be loads of fun.
But the point is my ball striking is back. I can hear it in the "hit" and see it in the ball flight and distance. All this with a very bad right knee and 72 years young. I can basically eliminated the right knee altogether, it has little to no function. Not so sure this will work with driver since it requires more depth in the back-swing thus more pressure on the right knee but I'm patient and will find a way to work around it.

Brilliant,, just brilliant. When I first started to watch these videos it messed up what little ball striking that I was doing. TBH your videos went to the bottom of my list. I quit watching all training videos and having been an athlete during my younger years I did what I always done to improve in sports. I started practicing 3-4 times a week at the range and took a different approach from what I always did since age 18 and that was to sometimes hit 3 large buckets in 20 minutes hammering away. When I practice I get a small bucket and instead of focusing on getting those 5 or 6 crisp shots I focused on my grip, setup and balance and quit swinging for the fence and was swinging 30 percent on every shot trying to make crisp contact every ball. It takes me about 2-3 hours to hit a small bucket and after one month I started to see huge improvements on the course. I’ve been playing golf since I was 18 and 49 now and for the first time in my life I was hitting the ball on demand. Played well for a month then fell back into the realm of inconsistency. Messed my head up because I thought I and I alone built a solid game and thought I was playing too much and that was my problem so then quit practicing and just played 18 holes a week and no dice. Im sorry for such a long story but I have to tell it. So here I was at the same place 3 months back looking at online training again and your video was the first one I saw and focused on your library on the areas I felt I needed help in then something happened.. the lessons from you that I watched 3 months ago that didn’t make sense and had me shooting worse made perfect sense..I was so excited that I was half asleep and at 2:30am grabbed my 7 iron and driver and went out in my yard and started swinging and was like OMG I couldn’t wait to hit some balls. The next day I went back to my routine and spent 3 hours hitting a small bucket and picked EVERYONE of them clean. Never done that. You have me playing the best golf of my life and finally shooting in the low 80’s.. if I practice more around the green I know I could shoot in the 70’s. I really think what happened when I first watched your videos and had such a negative experience implementing or understanding your lessons is because my foundation was weak and flawed. Then I started practicing and had built confidence in ball striking and had the proper grip and setup down and then came back to your lessons and not only could I understand you were trying to teach in your lessons they actually worked and fixed the bad habits I had fallen into! 4 months ago I was hitting my 7 iron 135-140 yds and that’s when I hit it clean. Now I hit it 165-170 and what’s crazy is I’m not swinging as hard. You taught me where your power really comes from. Your lessons have me shooting the best golf that I ever shot. The guys that I have golfed with for over 25 years kicked my ass every week and now I’m beating all of them by 7-8 strokes every time we play. Your methods are pure genius and the biggest lesson I’ve learned is that bad habits are hard to break and building good habits take time but to stick with it and it’ll be like a light came on I swear.. Thank you so much for you are the only one I watch anymore. This is a true story and happened the way I said it. Couldn’t make this up if I wanted to.. I still have problems with hitting on a uphill or downhill lie so hopefully you have a lesson on those. That’s my next mission.. cheers!

thanks Danny! I don't think anyone could ever be a great golfer without understanding this lesson. Got to strike the ball well with your irons to be consistent and take a divot in front of the ball. I like the idea of a few practice swings to check the blades of grass. It sounds so simple but don't do it at all. When I miss, I almost always am hitting ground about three inches behind the ball.
I have been looking for tips to be more consistent and trying super hard to make sure I am taking those divots.

Awesome video Danny. I’ve been struggling with my irons for a while. I’m trying to compress the ball but, I seem to be coming down to steep. I hit the ball first and it shoots off but, seems to go high and lose distance. My follow through slams the ground after the ball but, basically stops like a punch shot. I’m going to work on the tips in this video. Thanks

Thanx Danny for the tip to control depth of the divot. Just about every trainer reinforces the need to make a divot in front/after the golf ball. Except for one video that mentioned Tiger does not make divots, none discuss limiting the divot's depth to just a bruise. Which often leads to chunking the earth and hurting the distance. For a future video, please discuss how to keep the delofting of the club (hands in front of club head) from releasing too early (not casting) due to the downswing's momentum. Releasing or straightening the arms-delofted club too early causes hitting fat. In that, I have inconsistency with my timing/swing coordination.

Excellent stuff Danny - the concept of the circle is so much more “relate-able” than the abstract language usually applied around swing planes. You really are an outstanding communicator. I’m a recent leg amputee trying to keep playing - have you ever conducted lessons with an amputee? If so, I’d love to come down albeit you’re a long way from my home in Cumbria!

I generally strike my irons correctly and I do take a divot in front of the ball but now and again I hit it fat. This is an excellent explanation why. I would make 2-3 practice swings making sure my low point is in front of the ball then still hit it fat. Can't wait to try this out on the course. Keep up the great work Danny!😀

How about one on always hitting off the toe please. I set up for a hossel rocket but still got it out the toe. Early extension, chicken winging? I don’t think so but guess there’s something wrong.

Hi Danny, you are explaining so well what is happening during the swing. My problem is thin shots. My backswing is O.K In downswing I see my left arm is bent at impact, suggesting this maybe could be why I have these thin shots. I do not know what I should really do. Csn you please help what I need to do? Thsnk you so much.

I'm getting back into the game after about 12 years brake (you know, life). I have been watching your videos, which are fantastic, I am a "beginner" golfer working on every point you bring up, and I am seeing improvement every time I go out but I'm using older equipment. When is improving technique going to be hampered by equipment that may be dated. At what point should I upgrade to better equipment. Thanks.
