    Great to see another video from you, interesting point with vw service. When I was younger I thought using the main dealer for all services to keep the value of the car but all they seem to do is overprice on alot of things. I remember getting a free pre mot check with a car and they quoted 200-300 more than using my trusty mechanic
    I got my haldex service done at a specialist in Sheffield and they showed me like a filter that needs taking out and cleaning something vw dont do and seem to disregarded it according to some golf r owners on the forum. So I use the specialist for haldex and dsg service and any general service or mot I use my cousins garage who's done alot of my cars
    For fuel I use either shell v power or a more closer petrol station that does 97ron with mine been standard it should be okay but plans are to have it remapped eventually so it will have to be run on v power all the time. As for the guys coming out to refuel it for me I have to do it myself lol

    Welcome back buddy. Been a while. Car is on well low miles still 🤯 Regards to service costs with VW/Audi dealerships is ridiculous. I got a visual check done by local VW dealer and I went to one after 10 years. I got quoted a ridiculous amount for a bump stop. I got two for half the price of one they quoted fitted. Also shocked at there serviced cost still. I had my haldex service at 20k & Dsg at 26k, for peice of mind. Had mine done at Midland VW near Cannock. Jody and his team have a fab reputation. Also met someone new not far from me recently who is bang on too with all performance cars too. Had one of his car builds on Living Life Fast. I have been using Shell V power in all my cars. Mrs uses it in her CRV too!

      good to be back mate but im actually really tired from all the work im doing. This video was literally a quick iphone vid then i had a conference call after that for 2 hours and a call while driving home!! How are you man? Im glad youre still subbed :).
      Re your point about servicing and retailers... Its all about profit with them! The guys i bought my R from were really nice and friendly and i thought i got on well with them. I used to pop in now and then for a coffee and some biscuits while i have a chat with the service lads, or chat with my sales exec and rectionist now and then! But they never ever did mates rates when it came to servicing and i wasnt treawted any better when i made that warranty claim lol.
      You cant beat a specialist in my opinion, cheap as chips, passionate and genuinely good fun to have the crack with if they arent too busy. I shouldve asked him if we could take the R8 out for a spin lol.

    Great to see you back 👍 my issue with VW servicing is they seem to be moving away from the old stamping the service book to the “oh it’s all done online “ the myVW app does not seem to gel with what the dealer is telling me has been done and what’s required next time. I tend to always put top class diesel in my Tiguan as I am worried about clogged DPF and the like. We don’t have Shell in N.I. So I usually use B.P. ultimate. Put in a tank of Shell V power diesel when I was over at the Grand Prix. Averaging 59.5 mpg on the trip back so it ain’t too bad. Finally did you ever buy an OBD eleven i got one. SD

      Jay Kay to be brutally honest I have actually not found it that useful as a lot of things you can change are in my menu system for the digital dash anyway. Also some are gimmicks like the “urban joke “ led rear lights. It is useful as a fault code reader and also it’s gauges to monitor stuff like alternator output etc

    Some Clear advice here for you. Don’t cheap out on routine maintenance on an expensive performance car such as a Golf R. Get the Haldex service done - by the Audi specialist if you prefer,. It Makes sense to spend up to £100 every 3 years to maintain your 4-motion transmission, even for a TightWad. Think of the potential expenses out of warranty if Anything goes wrong. This is a much reported problem area amongst R owners. Check on the Owner Forums for evidence. Just get your hand in your pocket or You’ll be using cheap oil and tyres next....
    Suck it up.

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i think you misunderstood the video. First i asked the Audi specialist if it needed doing and he siad no, second he said the retailer wouldnt have done it either due to the low mileage. There is nothing to suck up because ive got plenty of cash for anything that needs doing, otherwise id have bought a cheap polo

    • @neilwatson5864
      @neilwatson5864 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jay Kay Happy days then - you’ll be fine as long as the Audi specialist is going to look after any 4 motion repairs needed relating to a blocked Haldex filter. Or you can then spend some of your money on the repairs. Advice is solid and well meant. Read my post again carefully. Horse to water etc. But hey, each to their own. Good luck.👍

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Assuming its an oil filter, why would it block up? Unless you smash launch control everyday and literally shred components which then blocks the filter... think i trust the audi specialist over your advice bro cheers for the concern though

    Great long overdue. Heres a real world eco using vw golf 1.4 match dsg petrol. 122 bhp. What's your long term mpg figure? As yours is bigger engine and performance would be interesting to see your long term mpg. Also have you tried one full tank and half or a full shot of Red Ex. Try logging before and after mpg again in Eco mode. And try it using supermarket fuel for price saving compared to shell.

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      i think ive achieved something like 35mpg average over the last 1000 odd miles. Dont forget though that the R has the performance but the extra weight of the AWD system as well. Extra weight means more fuel consumption. Not sure i can do the test you are asking as it sounds like a bit of a time consume but it would be interesting to find out

      @@jaykay7932 that's great thanks. Yes I have 50.5 long term mpg. 37000 miles. But obviously smaller lighter 1.4 122 bhp no 4 wheel drive. Sure ok. Yes try a red ex shot or engine fuel cleaner product and see if any noticeable power delivery boost. Keep adding the videos as lots of.good tips and learnings. Well done.

    With regard to the green growth on the window rubbers, I take it the car lives outside? we just use our regular car shampoo and a soft paint brush. Wash the car regularly and there is,nt a problem.
    MOT cost? VW dealers normaly price match for like for like MOTs, JCT 600 will do it for £35.00
    My 2014 R' is still on the original battery too.
    I always use Shell V Power, any better? probably not, my choice though. Yes get your points on the APP now.

    Hi Jay, very odd question and not relevant to this particular video, im deciding between buying a mk7 vw GTI or a f30 bmw 330d; in your experience or your opinion which car would you take, both fit the all my purposes however i want a fun car and wondering how big the pass of between the two cars is, any advice?

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi mate. Simply put BMW is a luxury brand and vw isnt. As such expect BMW maintenance cost to be expensive. Expect parts to be expensive as well. Id probably expect them to be double to cost of VW (and vw isnt cheap to be honest, honda is cheaper!). You could take the cars to a specialist - like i do - but the BMW will still be more expensive than the VW. So the choice is yours really.

      @@jaykay7932 thanks for the reply! im not too fussed about maintenance or fuel tbh mate but is the gti really that much better to drive than the 330d?

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends what you mean by better to drive. Ive never driven a Golf GTI so i couldn't comment. But you're comparing a sports executive car against a hot hatch, so in theory, depending on what it is youre looking for, the GTI would be loads more fun on B roads where the beamer is better for long commutes on the motorways due to its comfort features. Id compare the bmw to an equivalent merc or audi. The other thing to bare in mind is what features you want either car to have... should it have the infotainment systems? smartphone interface (such as car play)? etc... If youre not sure then youre better off test driving both cars and then finally deciding that way

    How much have you spent overall on service? I got a 2016 yesterday and bought the extended warranty that lasts for 5 years. Is that worth it? I have 29 days left to cancel and get a full refund. Is $3000 over the course of 5 years. It covers a lot things but not wear and tear

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      ive hardly spent anything really but bare in mind its not been driven. So far with covid 19 lock down ive literally not put a mile on the car since January. As for if its worth it, just look at the limitations in the terms and conditions - like if you decide to do a remap for example, would that void it? I'd say its reliable enough to risk going without it, but have the cash ready incase something goes. I do know german cars are not as reliable as japanese. I know a few people who have managed to blow Audi RS6 engines for example which shouldnt be possible really

      Ive still got it and still happy with it. If all you care about is performance then without a doubt its better, because its a better car (rawer experience according to motoring press) for less money. If you care about luxury then obviously the S3 is flasher (interior wise, extior it looks weak AF imo and the R looks better, more agressive) but then, you'd look even better in an RS 3 which is only a few k more expensive than a s3. Im never impressed when i see anything less than a RS3. I saw a RS4 on my way to birmingham before covid 19 hit and thought it looked fantastic! So that car id love to test drive
