    Does a high performance Golf work as a daily driver? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below! 👍

    I don't know about the GTI but my mk8 R 2024 year can change dash colours. But onto MPG; I use mine daily but longer distances. 25 mile commute gets 36mpg driving light footed but still up to or just below speed limits but i try to avoid stop start traffic as it dips down to 32mph. On the motorway, I'm getting 45mpg setting the cruise control to 65mph. As you say, it's how you drive it, and these 300bhp+ cars can give a reasonable return when they're not hooned too often.

      It's great that we can have the fun plus the range in driving too when driven sensibly 👍

    Bought my mk 7 R about a month ago on about 35k miles i get roughly 200-250 miles in a tank. I can see it going to 300/350 once i get out of the ‘hoon-ey moon’ period! Good video man! Been watching ur vids and decided to get an R, which i do not regret! Loving the ownership. Compared to my M4 just love the safety of the all wheels and for around the £20k mark, you cant go wrong! Very thankful for your insight over the course of your channels life! 👊🏾

      Thanks for the positive feedback about my channel! Congrats on your new R it's a cracking car for sure and it will be a different experience to your M4 with the 4WD but still plenty of fun👍

      @@SamAustin yh man m4 is an animal, but as a daily driver was too much of a handful for me. Kept kicking out, and was frustrating to put the power down since I like putting my foot down a lot, rwd + winter = disaster for me mate.
      But the R is just perfect, just point where you want and shoot! Will definitely be looking at an Rs3 after a year or so. Right now sitting at around £45/50k used for a facelift. Will wait a bit more to come down a bit 😭

    I got a GTI and am considering an R. Ill probably just keep my GTI becasue the MPG is usually 33 MPG combined( USA, 39.62 UK) and 35 on the HWY or 42 MPG UK. Thanks for the video, I put a deposit for an R and have wondered how I will be with the reduce mpg. I drive about 25K a year.

    • @SamAustin
      @SamAustin  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's tough between the two. You will notice the difference in economy but there is not too much between them during normal driving. If pushing on the R will use more fuel due to its extra power and weight on the 4WD system. Both great cars so you are in a great place whatever decision you decide 👍

    • @tcecoleshaw
      @tcecoleshaw 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It'll be about the same as Sam says and in my opinion, the assurance of the 4 motion has so far proven its worth when I've needed to pull out of slippery junctions quickly without fuss as well as putting all that power down I the British weather.

    If you worry about economy with this type of car it isn't for you and you should buy a diesel. On the other hand it is not that bad

  • @jimmyjt16

    How the hell do you get 350/400 miles? I'm assuming that's mostly motorway/dual carriageway commuting?

    • @SamAustin
      @SamAustin  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah alot of drives on the M1 / M25 over the years. Without dual carriageways and motorways I'd say closer to 300 would be as good as I would get 🤔

    Mk7 Gti 220 dsg here - 35 mpg avg about 380 - 400 miles on a tank. Having said that I can’t believe you’re getting similar figures in an R. Most forums I’ve seen people are get no more than around 300 miles per tank. Perhaps it’s due to yours being a manual.

    • @SamAustin
      @SamAustin  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the feedback with your GTI! It does depend how long your journeys are and I tend to do most of my miles and commute on a motorway which helps to get the engine warm etc. I think without this I'd be closer to 300 miles........either that or I am driving waaaay to slow 😂

    And mine is in low 20's, i have managed around 25 once and about 35 on a run and out of a tank i would be lucky to get over 200 miles, please tell me your secret, mine is a 70 plate dsg r estate

    • @SamAustin
      @SamAustin  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing your feedback! So I would say as your car is a 70 Reg I imagine it has sub 5,000 miles? These cars, and all cars in general, take a long time to get the engine to its most efficient place if that makes sense. I would say after around 25,000 miles the car will become more efficient. I was able to get the economy when my car had low miles due to driving it quite slow if I honest! No real secret just anticipating the traffic etc. If you put your foot down the fuel will go down just as fast lol. Yours is an estate so slightly heavier so that does play a part. I know its boring but try a drive when you are just cruising on the motorway, sub 60mph, for 45mins or so. You will see 40mpg no problem 👍

    • @richy10vtec52
      @richy10vtec52 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SamAustin Thanks for your feedback Sam, however i am a sensible quite slow driver that wanted the estate for the extra practicality with a bit more go than my previous GTD 17 plate dsg hatch and my car has just under 600 miles on it, 145 miles were driving back from Guildford in Surrey when i first collected the car, but i agree about the estate looks in principal, however i have begin to appreciate the rear with the 4 exhausts that are all real now and the black accents on the 7.5 really help also, great vids and great info, look forward too more my Golf r pal

    • @SamAustin
      @SamAustin  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@richy10vtec52 No worries! I love the R estate. I would play around with the modes also. Eco does really help improve the range. Unfortunately no matter how you drive it will struggle to get close to the range of a GTD. Thanks for the feedback and enjoy your new car! Real exhausts are a rariety now a days and I love it for that 👍
