@@emperorcubone You mean like another Delta Episode?
Anyway, when we look at the anime, I think it's apparent that a Pokemon Z was at least planned at some point, but for some reason or another, they just decided to shelve it and hold over all the new form changes for gen7. But at least we got Ash-Greninja and Zygarde Complete in the end. The same can't be said for Eternal Flower Floette, which they're still apparently keeping in gen7's data (they even have a Dex entry for it), yet seem to have no plans to ever release the thing. To a lesser extent, I'm also a little miffed that Zygarde Core turned out to never be playable, literally just being an item (I could understand that being the case for the Zygarde Cells since they supposedly have no will of their own, but the Core?). Granted, I'm guessing the thing would've had the strength of a Pichu at best, but still, seems really off to have a Pokemon (form) featured heavily in the anime for a year yet they never give us the capability of actually using it in the games.

I'm pretty bummed that they no longer do in-game mythical encounters. Because Kalos had the perfect setup:
power plant: flare grunts trying to steal volcanion. Get the first key via distribution. Maybe have get the other two plant keys and fight the decoy teams in the other two plants to enter steam last.
Sundial: As hinted by an NPC, make an area accessible only with a distribution item at the top of the Sun dial's shadow. Maybe make the whole dial descend into stairs where Diancie rests.
Couriway town: Get a train ticket via distribution and head out to a blocked off track. There, you enter the giant, aesthetically out of place palace that just appeared one day (hence the closure). Inside this treasure filled castle, guess who? HOOPA!
The last one requires a stretch, but I think all would have preferred some more answers and cooler encounters (Heck, the cover legendaries are fought in a lab for Pete's sake!)

The reason the region is divided is not because of geography, but because of cultural/ethnic divisions.
Coastal Kalos represents Brittany, which is the Gaelic (well, Celtic) section of France.
Central Kalos represents central Metropolitan France, which is Paris and surrounding cities. (It also has some French/Wallon areas of Belgium in the map though they are non-traversable in-game).
Mountain Kalos represents Grand Ost, or as it is traditionally called, Alsace-Lorraine, which is the (culturally) German part of France. This is also why the Legends are there, because they are based on Germanic myths, not French ones.
Southern Kalos, if it were a thing, would also represent Occitania, whose regional flag's colors are represented in Volcanion.
Same goes for Alola. Different islands correspond to different islands IRL.
Edit: Edited the post due to Nevinrhal's response so it is more readable, though their response is still mostly wrong.

      @emperorcubone  6 ปีที่แล้ว +17

I have to completely disagree with you. The Germans annexed a good chunk of Alsace and a small part of Lorraine, but not a sixth of the entire country !
      Here's a map of what the Germans annexed : ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alsace-Lorraine#/media/File:German_Empire_-_Alsace_Lorraine_(1871).svg )
      Here's a map of the Grand Est : ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Est#/media/File:Grand_Est_in_France_2016.svg )
Brittany is Celtic, not Gaelic. And Coastal Kalos go as south as Ambrette Town which represent La Rochelle, very far from Brittany and Celtic origins.
No, the only reason they divided Kalos in three parts is because 454 Pokemon in one national Pokedex is waaay too much.

It's pretty clear that a Z version if not XZ and YZ were in the works at some point, before getting cancelled presumably to focus work on Sun and Moon. The going theory is that they wanted a new generation to come out for the 20th anniversary, so Sun and Moon had to be rushed out the door with Gen 6 ending prematurely. This is evident in so much content that was obviously meant for Z being shoehorned into Alola where it otherwise has seemingly no place, not to mention Sun and Moon themselves having a lot of unfinished content, like the lack of access to the Golf Course and a number of cave entrances and other paths visible around Alola that you simply cannot access at all.

By that logic, Pokemon was always about trapping animals in balls and then forcing them to fight with others of their own just for your own gain and making them go horrible mutations that are pretty darn bad. Just going out of the alolan pokedex and anime dosen't reenforce your point, either, as we all know how innacurate both the pokedex and anime are.

Kalos while being the game that was introduced to the 3DS it left a lot to be desired. The routes and towns are too barren with very litle to see, gym leaders are lackluster with a team of 3 pokemon each and the difficulty wasn't there at all.
Story "if there's any" is quite easy to forget, the roster while it had a cool variety of Pokémon it wasn't enough for me sadly and the Champion. Dear Arceus the Champion is by far the worst, it served no purpose whatsoever other than "Hey, i'm the Champion and i'm an actress as well see ya" and the E4 is by far more challenging "in a sense" than the Champion. Don't get me started on the rivals because they're not worth my explanation neither my time to type it up.
X&Y was a game that had a lot of untaped potential but the execution was badly handled, for me in my experience it left nothing of impact in any place at all and i tried to give it a second chance and yet the same feeling stays. Haven't touched my copy of X in two or three years and i doubt that i'll ever go back and play it.

Story, "if there's any"? Where the heck did that come from? I cried three times in XY, first when they told us AZ's story and Floetee left him, second when Lysandre's plan to kill all Pokemon was revealed, and make a world without them, and third, when AZ's Floette returned to him after 3,000 years. Technically I cried a fourth time when I learned (before playing the game) that Yveltal had obliterated the region a long time ago and made several species of Pokemon extinct.
I guess there was some crying in Sun as well but NOT IN ANY PREVIOUS GEN. Which means XY has a better story than most Pokemon gens.

I feel like Kalos was rushed and underperformed in a lot of ways. I don't believe for a second that most trainers got the Ace pokémon they were supposed to get. Kalos only has one Bug Pokémon, one Ground Pokémon (excluding Zygard), and a little too much of past Pokémon because of Mega Evolution. This ends up adding to no trainer really having special Pokémon because everyone shares team members, including Aces (In other generations you wouldn't see other people have the same Pokémon as Leaders' Aces for the most part). Take Grant, for an example. If he were to even have more Pokémon, his only options would be Carbink and Barbaracle. Wulfric would have an Aurorus, and would be the third important figure of the region to have one. Even when there would be better options, they let it slip. I have NO idea why Valerie wouldn't have a Florges as her ace.
I feel like Diantha is specially weak because of this: Hawlucha - It's Korrina's Ace (if you discount Mega Lucario, which I do because it isn't his original region); Both Fossils - Are Grant's Aces; Gourgeist - Should have been with Ramos; Goodra - What should have been a star of her team gets overshadowed by; Mega Gardevoir - I have a lot of problems with this. Gardevoir, previously, was Wally's signature. Then they changed it to Mega Gallade to accomodate. Now that makes Wally and Lucian share signatures. It is messy and terrible. She could have had a way more interesting team that would help her stand out and show her personality. She is the kind of character I'm sure would have a Furfrou (not only it is a good representant of the local culture, it could be surprisingly bulky, it starts fast, and has a movepool to choose from. It could be a shocking first 'mon to go against). I'd even think she could have a Diancie if she was further worked into the plot and not event only. Maybe the starter strong agaisnt yours too, after all she is good friends with Sycamore.
And yes, I whole heartedly agree with number 1. There's just too much leading to a Pokémon Z that never happened. I've always wondered if it was in production for the Wii U and it got shut down because of the low sales, or if they planned to have another european region in Gen 7 that would connect back to Kalos and have more lore; but I guess we won't know until we have another european region. I actually feel the same about Unova, too. Their train yard city (Anville) is very well hidden, far off in the distance, and it's nothing but glorifyied item trading. It is obviously there to connect to other places, but it doesn't.

I think Emperor's "opinion" sounded like a copy-paste of the reason we were given in alola as an attempt to make us prefer z moves over mega evolutions (which I think was idiotic but hey, they had to introduce this new gimmick somehow).
I do agree on the point that the mega would be a "limit breaker" or "overclocking" of sorts, hence only one team member can perform it safely (and the bond lore behind it) but it is true that every pokemon can do it once you unlock it, having the mega stone as the only requirement.

Even Tierno, Shauna, and Trevor follow that rule. You and Serena/Calum are like literally the only people that normally carry around a full team.
As for Mega Evolution. I do see your point with those dex entries, but isn't that something shown only in Alola? Of course Alolans despise Mega Evolution. They want to push Z Moves. Mega Evolution has always made far more sense to me as a form of Super Saiyan. A power up transformation. That's it. That's why it lasts only in battle because there's no reason to Mega elsewhere... except when Latios and Latias want to show off. And even compare Red's Charizard in Origins. Besides, we do need to believe (based on your logic) that they cannot regulate their temperature because we are taking the Pokedex entries literal as you stated. That's why everybody takes those with a grain of salt.
But do you want one that not even you cannot deny makes no sense? Banette. The Pokedex establishes that he's a possessed doll that wants to kill the kid that discarded him and that does fit with the Yokai that it originated from, but then you have to remember that Banette is the evolved version of Shuppet, a hand puppet. How could a hand puppet have had a kid that threw a doll version of itself? Much less how could it develop hatred towards that kid?.

I looooove Kalos- but am also equally annoyed with most of your points haha.
The easiness of the games was a bit annoying; like you said all they’d have to have done was added more Pokémon to some of the teams.
I both like and dislike Mega Evolution. I love how Pokémon like Ampharos, Altaria, Absol, Mawhile, Houndoom, etc. that were cool but seemed incomplete for forms; making them viable after being outclassed. But then you get mons like Garchomp, Salamencr, Ttar, Metagross, and the other pseudo-legendaries getting one- while Dragonite gets left out. It seems like these Pokémon are plenty strong and loved without Megas- don’t see why they need them when there are other loved mons like Flygon, Lapras, Tropius, etc that aren’t as strong that people would love to see get stronger.
The starters I understand getting a Mega and it even made sense with the bond theory- I’m just going to be mad if gen 1 and 3 are the only ones who ever get starter megas (and I’m afraid they will be).
I have to admit- I honestly think the Pokédex entries saying how painful mega evolution is and how some Pokémon basically turn evil or overly animalistic from it is just speculation from Pokémon scientists who haven’t used them. It is something that is very rare that only the most powerful trainers seem to have- and from the experiences we see we don’t seem to see any pain or evil qualities other than most of them looking more fierce and going through bodily changes. A lot of the Pokémon do look more natural even (like Pinsir and Aerodactyl), in my opinion. So I feel okay using one- if there were dialogue of us seeing them look sad or in pain or even like the happiness meter goes down each time they mega evolve I’d definitely be really against it too haha. But until then I think it is just unproven theories from scientists to fill Pokédex pages and maybe even discourage people from using it if it is indeed dangerous for a weaker trainer to use it.
Definitely agree with the last point. All of the gaps in story seemed masterfully done at first when we expected a Pokémon Z; but then when Z never came it just felt lazy. My hope is that we get a Switch Pokémon Z. I know it is unlikely; but it would be cool with the trend of new main series game and then reboot. Gen 8 comes then we get either the Sinnoh remakes or Pokemon Z which is like a continuation like black 2 and white 2. Would be so incredibly psyched for that. Multiple new areas we could see; hopefully harder gyms and elite 4. I think even seeing the fire type Elite 4 member try to resurrect Team Flare but with a slightly different feel to them would be really cool! It’s doubtful- but X and Y deserve more closure; and to have an even deport look into the Kalos region and lore would be so satisfying.
Sorry for the long comment. Great video!

Kinda like the legendary beasts and the golems being "secondary trios" in their respective regions. Like, post-game, after completing certain tasks, you can visit those facilities, but the developers ran out of time to fully develop those events so the facilities are just left. I didn't know the fact that Mega Evolution was a mutation and all of that. I'm reading comments here, one says "It's not 'healthy' but your Pokémon does it because it loves you". WTF? One reply to that comment is basically "idk, I don't pay attention to the PokéDex, so it isn't a bad thing for me". No, definitely no. No one can leave a comment in this video disagreeing with your "Mega Evolution is bad" points. It definitely is. I'm sure they first thought about the new megas and then they added more depth to its lore, so it didn't hurt Pokémon at first, but then they implemented those lines and BAM, Mega Evolution is abuse. A bad idea, just like the Latios/Latias gift so early in OR/AS.

My biggest concern is why did they decided this to be the official description on how mega evolution works? Did Game Freak think this would be a good idea for a back story? It still sounds like a lame rushed attempt to add megas. If they added more thought into why megas should be included, then maybe people wouldn't have it so much.

They can flesh out the power plant, Zygarde, the hotel, they could even go so far as to change the regions climate or layout to make it more realistic, without that weird desert and the blizzard route or better yet, moving them so they make sense. SO much potential.

5:56 The Desert in Kalos also has a different problem in terms of topography. Which one?
Simple: Leave Courmaline City and go down the 13th route (means going south as proven as soon as the very first route of the game) do nothing else and after a short while, interrupted by aggressive non-avoidable Wild Pokémon with Arenatrap, you will end up in Lumiose City.
Now take a look at the Kalos Map. How?

I have a theory that the different climates were meant to represent seasons and influence Deerling and Sawsbuck's forms. Central Kalos is very spring-like and flowery, Coastal Kalos gives off Summer vibes since it's mostly beach (also Kiloude City being tropical), and Mountain Kalos has elements of Autumn and Winter with fallen leaves, cold air, and snow. I guess the idea was scrapped at some point since it was too much to program for one line of Pokemon.

the mega evolution pokedex entries were added in sun and moon, so my personal theory is that they wanted to push megas to the side for the new gimmick of z moves, and the horrific pokedex entries were just another way to discourage people from using it. i think it was really poorly thought out though, since it retroactively makes every character who uses mega evolution abusive and makes the entire region of kalos look bad (since nearly everyone thought it was a good thing).
something worth noting is that mega slowbro is the only one (to my knowledge) whose sun and moon entry actually DOES sound good. apparently it's comfortable and safe in there.

Because it’s too easy, lacks a plot/storyline, have a bad cast of characters, lacks a proper follow up/definitive enhanced version/sequel to fleshed out the third legendary pokemon, have a bad postgame. The only good thing about Pokémon X and Y are the region and the layout of the region, the region of Pokémon X and Y are the most diverse thanks to being dissected into 3 parts, coastal, central and mountain and there’s so many optional/explorable areas and explorable routes.

In fact, The only good thing about Pokémon X and Y is the region and the layout of the region is one of the best if not the best in the Pokémon Series, the region of Pokémon X and Y is the most diverse thanks to being dissected into 3 parts, coastal, central and mountain and there’s so many optional/explorable areas and explorable routes in Pokémon X and Y which makes it even more good.

My first ever Pokémon games were X/Y. I remember absolutely loving the games because I was relatively young so the challenge wasn’t a problem. I remember falling in love with the series from X/Y.
When I see hate, I understand it but I adore these games.

I don’t agree with your point on mega evolutions. To me the explanation was just that. Other than that great video.

I didnt really look into Mega evolution. My theory was that it takes a future adaption as to explain the different Y and X Stones. For Charizard it was that one moved into a Desert and the other in to a Cave

Yeah this resume my feelings about Kalos. It's a great region, but it's... too much. It's a patchwork of awesome sceneries that don't quite fits together.
Then there's the Pokémon, which are both the best and worst point of the games. Variety is great, and having a massive team makes the game somewhat more challenging (it goes from being a breeze to being just easy).
But there is such a thing as too much variety. Most of the Pokémon appears only on one single route. Which means none really have the time to shine. And the new Pokémon, who are already too few to begin with, suffers even more from this, never truly being able to shine.

I completely agree about the new Pokemon being overshadowed. I was thrilled every time there was something actually NEW to jump out of the grass, and likewise disappointed to see yet another Psyduck, or Volbeat, or any other thing I've seen a hundred times.
Even if they don't make as many new Pokemon they should at least give them more of a highlight...

@@emperorcubone This actually is my other issue with Mega Evolution on a more meta level. Even the starters gets overshadowed by the cool Kanto Starters.

Let’s just pray that In Galar we can go back to Kalos and replay the story with the questions answered

To be honest, I think Kalos ultimately fails compared to many of the other Pokemon games, not because of things like difficulty, the region itself or the Pokemon distribution - but rather the story. Difficulty, or the lack of it, is a prevalent flaw in these games; but I found that there are many random trainers that can catch you off guard with their team; proving to be somewhat of a challenge with nuzlockes. Turning of the EXP share also helps. Yes, the AI is dumb to begin with; but it's far worse in ORAS - which are seen as much better games.
The issue is the story. It's hollow, flat and contains no interesting segments. Not a single one of the characters has a personality beyond that of one dimensional, and characters and their actions are the driving force of the story. And with such a needless abundance of forgettable characters, there is no focus to the plot - which, in of itself, is not only poor, but horrendously paced. The overall plot and ideas are seemingly arbitrary, character interactions are mostly pointless and the messages are barren. But it's weaved together so one part of the story takes place hours after the other, but mere minutes before the next.
The issue is that the plot is entirely character dependent, yet none of the characters are interesting. In Heartgold and Soulsilver, there may not have been much plot, but characters like Silver, Lance, Clair and Archer wove together what little there was, and made everything so much better. Say what you want about the minimal plots are in Pokemon games, there are many characters that do not have much screen time and are captivating nonetheless. In the aforementioned ORAS games, there was Archie, Maxie, Wally, Birch, Steven, Wallace and Zinnia.
It did not feel like an achievement to stop team Flare or beat Diantha, because who cares? There were some characters in the game I found to be worth my time, but Looker and Emma were in a short postgame. Az was the only one to have some thought put into him. But, he was undermined and had little dialogue. And in all honesty the only good moment he even has is when he is reunited with floette. He still lacks a character, motives, etc. He's only interesting because the circumstances in which he's in are interesting, which the story focuses on very little in favour of more shallow material.
Though still, I'd rather play X and Y over some of the old games simply because of the updated mechanics. Yes, Gen 7 is more technically vibrant, but X and Y aren't chock full with pointless cutscenes that make me want to gauge my eyes out. I do like sun and Moon quite a bit despite their lack of replayability since the game is more difficult and has a much better story. However, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon remain to be my least favourite games in the entire main series by far. That's beyond the point, though - X and Y are not the worst, but they are far from the best.

You know why it’s called turnback cave?
Because you only go there to turn back as soon as you get there!
