I think that the biggest thing galar lacks is actually caves and dungeons to explore at the main game of Pokémon Sword and Shield. I have finished the main story of Pokémon Sword. But I haven’t played the DLC and I’m planning to buy both DLC to complete the games. But if I’m being honest, galar is one of the best regions in Pokémon. It’s also one of the most diverse regions we have ever seen in Pokémon. I love galar and it doesn’t deserve more hates. Because galar is so awesome. And there’s a couple of explorable/optional routes in galar to explore. The wild area also makes galar even better. But the DLC Expansion Pass makes the postgame content and exploration even better. So is galar great ? The simple answer is: Yesssss .
@@Alex-ln4kb Not linear doesn't mean good even in pokemon. Exploration in the Wild Areas are nowhere near as thought provoking as any area in Unova and Alola(this ones debatable admittedly), which were also incredibly contained and linear.
My problem with the Galar region is the SHEER amount of wasted potential. The region is based on England whitch has a rich history of Celtic, Norse and even Roman mythology; and so little of it went into the Galar region aside from ruins that you mostly can't explore. We could have had new Pokemon and regional variants based on creatures like the Kelpie, Cait Sith, Dullahan, Wild Hunt and Nuckelavee. With the amount of the region that goes unexplored, they would have been better off splitting England, Wales and Scotland into separate regions like they did with Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh (all based on Japan). It also bugs me how almost all of the Gym Leaders are dressed like Soccer players and traditional elements of English history are rarely explored. Kanto had things like Erika's kimono, Lt. Surge's army uniform and Blaine's lab coat; we could have had things like a Scottish city with highlanders or bagpipe players in kilts, or Milo modeled on a druid, or a psychic type Gym Leader modeled after Merlin but instead all of it is sports themed. Heck, even the option to have the player character wear a kilt as part of character customization would have a step up. Makes me wish for a Sword and Shield 2 just to fix some of these problems.
I think we might expect a fan upgrade of the game like all the other modded games of the series, improvement romhacks is a thing in the Pokémon fandom Dont think anything special will come out of the official release tho, even with the DLC, it's more likely it will only have more untapped potential and then Game Freak will just move on to the next generation
Pokemon makes more money than any other single franchise and yet their games have stagnated their formula is to introduce a gimmick before throwing it away for the next new game. There's practically limitless potential for the Pokemon series but they neglect to seize it for the monetary gain they get by making incremental improvements and churning out a game as regularly as possible regardless of the state it's in as shown with the recent entries.
If I had to describe the flaws of Sword and Shield in one word, it would be: Shallow. The towns contain almost nothing, few NPCs, no interesting events, tons of sealed off buildings, and the two most visually interesting (Spikemuth and Ballonlea) have almost nothing in terms of content. Dungeons are non-existent, no mazes, no multiple floors, no optional exploration areas. The routes are the most linear we've ever seen, which means they're mostly boring and over and forgotten in the blink of an eye. While some of the cutscenes and animations look amazing, the fast majority of them are lackluster and the draw distance really is a huge problem for immersion. The evil team and plot have basically no presence in the story, and are so non-sensical/poorly thought out that it makes you wonder why they even bothered. And the wild area... from having basically no interesting locations to discover, being just grass and trees for 90% of it, "biomes" that are basically just weather effects, a poor draw distance that makes the whole place look empty, and a general lack of things to do short of raids, the wild area ended up being disappointingly half-baked. This whole game could have used some more time in the oven, which is a shame because I think it could've been one of the coolest regions if it was just given a little more depth.
@@tristanneal9552 well put. I feel the same way. This could have been an amazing game all around. I'm still putting lots of hrs in it (for competitive play and maxing out my Pokedex), but of the next game turns out similar to this I'm not buying it.
And Their Leader Piers aren’t evil enough to be considered the Boss of Team Yell. @@Albix360_ Yes, I know, can you just chill and stop calling me an idiot ? And TEAM YELL is also a Villainous Team. And Macro Cosmos doesn’t have the word Team in it, so it’s not an actual Villainous Team just like Aether Foundation, their boss are evil but the organizations are just working for their boss.
My biggest problem is how separated the wild area is from everything. They were just like "Welp here ya go. There's your open world." The majority is still just linear routes. They didn't even bother to give us any houses or towns in the wild area

But don't the new up-ressed models look better when they're animated the exact same way, as compared to before? Why, what did you think they meant by that?
No they didn't. What about the camping and the raids. That wasn't here before. I think that is what they meant by animation. Battle animations suck and will always suck
The storyline felt a bit lacking too considering how much of the actual action we were prevented from going into. I mean Leon gets to do the fun stuff and we don’t.
@@3.2187_Kilometres well people have been complaining about our 10 year old characters stopping big threats when characters like Lance and Steven are right there
@Bui Doi Pretty sure the player (and Hop) has to save the day anyway when Leon's boss becomes an impatient prick and nearly ends up destroying Galar. Also this is ironically the one game where the player being a major force in the story would actually make sense. They could've easily made your (and again Hop, obviously) and Leon's relationship into more of a mentor-student type. With you and Hop tagging along as training, to further test your abilities as possible replacements for Leon as the Regional Champion. Seriously, if Leon didn't think that we're worthy, why even give us the Endorsement? Because Hop is his little brother? Yeah, probably. Leon is such an arsehole. No wonder his ace is a f**king Charizard. An a-hole Pokémon for an a-hole Trainer.
@@HogtreeOctovish There is a big difference between endorsing you to participate in a sport and trusting you with matters that involve even the politics of Galar. I really dislike the "plot twist" evil team stuff, for a young audience it might be harder to spot, but personally I saw it coming a mile off. I get that you still end up stopping potential disaster, but having an evil team throughout that gives you motivation to become strong to stop them is so much better, plus it would be great if the game was more challenging and really made you fight hard to beat the evil team, rather than having the cover legendaries come and do all the damage for you during the main battle
@@cyberink7093 Yeah, I mean, who else was gonna be the villain? Definitely not Team Yell. Leon? Literally nothing to gain. Bede? That'd have been hilarious, but he lacked any weight for that to be the case. Hop? Way too wholesome and naive for that to be believable. . Of course, even then, it's like "this dude's plan is so stupid an average child could point out its flaws" and there was *little to no setup* to make the "he's really evil" twist work... Also, didn't they do "big company guy secretly a villain" twist in another game? If so, then it's definitely a played out idea
Personally, i think that Alola did this far better than Galar. Sure, the plot twist there was obvious too, but at least Team Skull accounted to something. They have significance to the plot. Where as Team Yell is practically useless, and the plot twist was even more obvious.
I did not love how often there would be a cut scene followed by a cut scene, followed by someone not you deciding they were gonna go do something cool. "did you guys here about the huge problem, lets go over there and look at it" "here we are closer to the big problem, i wonder what caused it" "oh look the champ is gonna solve the problem off screen, you can go someplace else"
In galar they should have had a royal family that would be so cool Edit : to clarify i would like them to be involved in the plot and act like celebrities like in real life
Ewww haha, Sordward and Shielbert. But Calyrex is meant to be the real ruler of Galar, also the Legendary wolves are royal... I'm guessing the pokémon were the royal family this time. There's a the hidden statue of "royal" humans with the legendary wolves in Stow-on-Side... also the tapestry in Hammerlocke
My biggest gripe with the region looking back was that the most interesting areas were the usually the smallest. The down with the fairy gym was the most visually interesting one, but it also had the least to do.
Sword and Shield helped convince that game freak are losing interest in the games. The routes and cities felt empty and the story and characters were lack lustre. The one good point was the Pokémon. Hopefully the dlc improves things.
I mean I guess the series has had a long good run, maybe time to retire it? I wouldn't complain. The games make a lot of money though so I doubt Game freak will ever stop
I would be heartbroken if the series ended. I believe if game freak can put the extra effort they put into 4th and 5th gen, we will start getting great Pokémon games again. Recently I feel game freak are doing the bare minimum. Maybe the Pokémon company should hire another studio.
@@danifit24 "focused on competive" Gen 8 introduced Dynamax literally the most uncompetitive mechanic ever. It's literally a free win button if you have more than 2 braincells.
The plot in Gen 8 is worse than ever. I have Suspended my Disbelief at Children defeating Criminal organisations and capturing Godlike entities for my Entire life, and yet, Sword And Shield, in trying to Sidestep that and create a 'more realistic' version, Completely Breaks that suspension by being so unbelievably Stupid and empty. Chekov's Gun is utterly Violated at every turn, and there isn't One satisfactory payoff in the whole game. The main character is left out of the majority of referenced plot events, and as such, these events Don't Matter and only serve to create plot holes. Macro Cosmos came out of nowhere and was never even explained. Team Yell was pointless. Completely. If they didn't exist; the story would be entirely the same. Bede is an Irritating Character who gets his own way at almost every turn, commits a severe Crime and walks off with a Slap on the Wrist... and even the slap on the Wrist is Taken Back! The Gym Leaders went back to almost no personality again. Most of the Major events are handled off Screen, or are handwaved until Eternatus, At which point, Hop and the Protagonist STILL overcome Eternatus by themselves, Invalidating earlier attempts at allowing competant older Trainers/Characters to handle it, and Resulting in a Halfway Mess. If they had actually committed to one way or the other, Either: Two Chosen Ones defeat the Powerful Evil force OR: The more experienced trainers handle the major events and The protagonist and their Rival focus on the Gym Challenge, Maybe it would be less Absurd. It would certainly cause less Thematic Whiplash between the Build-up and climax. The latter is A Stupid Idea for a different Reason, as it would make having these events Pointless, but at least it would be Consistent. All that without even criticising the Glaring flaws in the Gameplay and Map Design.
Hop and the player only overcome Eternatus with the help of what I'll call the Legendary Wolves, and they only happen to know about the wolves because they accompanied Sonia in her research project. This doesn't invalidate the earlier attempts to thwart Eternatus by older trainers. With MacroCosmos, you only get a sense of who they are when you do the Pokéjobs for them, asking you to send over tough looking Pokémon to be bodyguards, which seemed kind of sketchy.
Bede really was annoying..Total cocky prick that couldn’t hold his weight. He’d claim things and act all high and mighty, but just sucked and couldn’t win against you..he played it off like he was going easy smh! Then in the end put being a Pokémon trainer on the line trying to size you up and be a show off when their track record against you typically isn’t that great, not to mention why would you throw such a huge and random thing on the line like that?? He’s a brat who gets away with being a huge prick and literally destroying a huge wall that was a historical monument! Like wtf?! “You just ruined this huge historical monument..Only punishment is that you can no longer fight in the league, that’s all, bye” Then he STILL technically does as he fights you. Also I thought he was a girl at first, like some older woman or something..oops.
Do you literaly want to complain about Macro Cosmos being of nowere? Of course no one wouldnt notice a entire town be invaded by a bunch of criminals with ratatas, Koffings and Grimers, or for no reason a Team move to a region for other
My biggest problem is the lack of an “o” in the name like we got kantOn, jOhtO, hOenn, sinnOh, unOva, kalOs, and all of a sudden Galar like where’s the o gamefreak
Some other studio would make wonders with the Pokemon trademark. Gamefreak is just not a good game studio anymore. Remember the Town game? That was Gamefreak trying to be a good RPG studio. And it sucked
I loved... the little bits I saw, but there's just so much of the BASE GAME that needs improving. I don't really care about what lore and intrigue the DLC will bring us if the base game isn't gonna get fixed. 3 quick things? 1: artificial roadblocks make core things inaccessible. You said it with the power plant, but also all the farms on "route 1". We have to RNG for berries, but our mom is a farmer, and we have poke jobs... why is that not a poke pelago situation? 2: gym leaders stop EXISTING after we beat them. No reentry to the gym, no finding them in the world outside their gym, NOTHING. They all have lives, according to their league cards... so... where are they? 3: plot crap: so many times we're TOLD something happens without us! Sonia and Leon regularly derail us to keep doing gym challenge and ignore plot elements, and it's not just them! Circhester's side plot of a mother and son fight being gym based is... goofy because we never SEE the other character. Where were these "celebrity" royals the entire time? How does Galar FUNCTION after beating the big bad? Etc etc etc etc etc
That's a great point about the gym leaders; we saw Trial Captains all the time. And my favorite "tell not show" moment was when a giant Perrserker was wrecking havoc and Leon fought it down and we "just missed it." Not even a cutscene, just a picture on someone's phone...
Pokémon Sword and Shield should’ve had a second wild area in the postgame filled with dungeons, forests 🌳 caves and more routes to explore and Pokémon Sword and Shield only have 10 routes in total, I would be happier if Pokémon Sword and Shield introduced at least 5 different routes in the postgame and maybe 🤔 new towns and cities 🌃 to explore in the postgame (excluding the DLC) and Pokémon Sword and Shield should have more legendaries to be captured while exploring the dungeons filled with puzzles 🧩 to solve to reward you with a legendary pokemon such as maybe 🤔 the legendary titans/regis and legendary birds 🦅 in the Main Game of Pokémon Sword and Shield (excluding the DLC). I just hoped Generation 9 added more explorable areas to explore.
WHAT WOULD A Third Version To Pokémon Sword and Shield For eternatus As The Game Mascot BE CALLED ? Pokémon Cannon or Pokémon Spear ? if it were to happened ?
The wild area was so hyped up and it wound up relatively flat with no real secrets. Theres a lost tower kind of thing surrounded by ghosts but theres nothing to it but to look pretty. Plus the weather is so jarring I go from intense heat to blizzard in two steps
@KSound Kaiju Then they should've delayed it. (And/or not make the Let's Go games.) And they could have easily hired more people to lessen the burden, given how popular and profitable the franchise is. I really wish that people would stop acting like Game Freak and/or TPC are small, obscure companies. They have the resources and the brand (again, most profitable media franchise) to make better games, so they (by which I mean the company itself and those gaining the most profit from it) should put in the effort to do so.
@@HogtreeOctovish Yeah, they most certainly have the money GF makes more money than Marvel Really we should be getting like these big budget games that's like a movie we can interact with But HE's ability is Truant

And they still make money from it. So while they could stop all of that to make a better game in the end the multiple games anime eps and dlcs/remakes would give them more money. Trust me i would love better games i love Pokemon but being realistic there probably just going to keep making good games but not great ones
I personally love team yell for the fact that they aren't the real evil team in Alola, Team Skull were basically subordinate of the evil team, they are the enemy just really really low tier. While Team Yell are the good guys going about it in an aesthetic that looks bad for them. They're cheering on a girl to try and get her to win in an attempt to help their "boss" with depression. When the true evil team is revealed, instead of just joining them by default, team Yell helps the player. Not in the traditional double-battle way, but they do all the annoying stuff they've shown to be their forte, against the enemy. I personally feel they were well written. It wasn't a good 'twist', as it was easy to see they were too inept for any real villainy, but it was a nice turn for the character arc of an organization.
I feel like I enjoyed the region of Alolha more then Galar. Even though the cutscenes and Skull were annoying at least there was a lot of cool towns and places
When playing, I hated how they held your hand the the whole game. Like There would be an explosion, but instead of you dealing with it, Leon does it for you. They held my hand through all
Literally! His face is rather feminine and the coat seems like something a woman would wear. White curly short hair, looks old tbh. Looked like a short haired grandma or at least an adult that got hit by early old age aka adults who’s hair turns white early, they still look somewhat young but their hairs betrays him.. I’ve seen some fanart, and even the fanart manages to make him look more masculine than his in game model!
the wild area felt especially empty, just compare them to the routes in gen 4 when the remakes come out. replaying Platinum I cross a bridge seeing tall grass and a cave below at some point, I immediately went "I've got to remember to explore that later." and it made the world feel bigger. such things invite you to wonder "did I miss hidden area's in previous routes?" it's also why I want more HM's to explore area's in earlier routes that I couldn't reach before and find new pokemon. (that's the Ideal use of HM's also more parts of the game need to be reworked for this vision to work). I'd rather have big routes with loads of hidden side area's than a big empty wild area.
My biggest problem is the lack of extra optional areas, or towns without gyms, there aren’t any places like the giant chasm, ruins of alph, or any other optional area that can be explored, as well as there not being towns like lilycove or jubilife city, where there is stuff to do that doesn’t all have to do with gyms
My main problem with Galar is how awful Dynamax as a battle mechanic is. It's visually boring, dumbs down Pokémon to spam Max Airslash and max knuckle and you've basically won if you have any decent battling awareness. The only consistent counter is using your own Dynamax to time it out or imposter Ditto. Thank god Smogon banned this, as I can't play doubles now as it's even more brain-dead than it was in gen 7. It's definitely the worst battle mechanic ever added to Pokémon, we got rid of mega evolutions for this.
Trubbish And Garbodor mega evolutions were so good, it’s a shame that they removed it for this horrible mechanic. And maybe it would have been better if it was more exclusive, like if only Pokemon with gigantamax forms could do it, and no one else. But either way it’s still trash.
@@bingus9677 The problem was with just having Gigantamax is 1. Many Pokémon who got it didn't need it or deserve it (the only Mons that I think rightfully deserved a Gigantamax was Garbodor, Machamp, Kingler and Butterfree) The Kanto starters already have megas, Pikachu and Eevee just waste two slots. Meowth also wasted a slot. Personally I'm not a fan of giving new Pokémon Gmax forms as they haven't been properly decided either they are deserving of a Gmax form by the community. Etc and if it was just Gigantamax people would just say "why aren't these just mega evolutions". They added Dynamax to try and differentiate itself from mega evolutions but made it even worse. Shame a region based on my home country is so mediocre.
@@ultimatefirecracker1486 Same, and I wish more people had this response. The literal best possible way to get Gamefreak and the companies associated with it to actually listen and rethink their current behavior is for the older fans(who I'm still convinced make up the lion's share of the customer base) to vote with their wallets.
My thoughts: 6: yeah team yell are just plain stupid. It's like gamefreak saw how people liked skull and did it again but completely missed the point. 5: two things I hate about Gigantamaxing: the Pokemon don't physically get larger. They just look like their giant. Despite the fact that Dex entries and even the story goes "they'll destroy the region because their big" which makes no sense. And two Gigantamaxing is a vast majority of the time worse then regular dynamaxing because a lot of Gigantamax moves are worse like Charizard, no more harsh sunlight but you get fire spin. That's worthless 4: yeah, this game is basically hallway simulator the game. Something else I can't stand is how the amount of time to get to the first gym is the same amount of time as gyms 2-8. 3: I'm still infuriated at this. Gamefreak basically lied to everyone in the face and a lot of people who were ok with that 2: huh, you have a point, Galar has basically nothing of a culture. Alola had its trials at least. But Galar has literally nothing 1: yeah, SwSh is basically a hallway. If this was one of the older games you would be able to go through the farm lands, you'd be able to go up a few of the mountains and their caves, you would be able to see the rest of cities. But SwSh? Nah you don't need to see those, just go down that hallway, I mean route, to the next gym
@@AdaWongMistress I love Team Skull. But they weren't there to be there and had an actual history and reason to exist. And fighting Guzma feeled fun and challenging. It was the best trial! (Who wasn't one, but still)
One of the reasons why Alola is my favorite region is that every area is dripping with character and culture, even with their own take on gyms and the League
Finally some gen 7 recognition. It had the best story, best villain (Im talking more on guzma than Lusamine), best cast. Like we need more professors like Kukui. I never had so much with a professor
I agree completely especially with #1. The routes are too small and there is too much teased that we can't enter. Also the wild area kinda was dissapointing, like I expected more, especially caves, snowy areas and more to explore, it has a lot of wasted potential. Most of it is just focused on weather conditions, while I kinda hoped it would be like HGSS Safari Zone where different parts of it would serve different climates and different possibilities
Yeah, Kabu's just supposed to be a tough gym leader that doesn't pull any punches. In his backstory, he's a former Hoenn gym leader that performed so poorly that his gym had it's recognition from the Pokemon League revoked. The experience made him determined to prove his worth as a trainer and Gym leader, and thus he went to Galar to train. So many trainers lose to him because, as the third gym leader, they've basically just started their journey, but are being put up against a seasoned veteran that doesn't take any battles lightly.
The Gym Challenge just shows us the one slice. It's explained that there are gyms for every type, and before the gym challenge "goes live", the gyms are judged on their power to determine which of those gyms will be the 8 in the gym challenge "this time". In-game, Milo isn't the worst. He was able to beat out 11 other gyms to be one of the gyms in the gym challenge. And we don't know what the line up was last time nor do we know what it will be next time. To me, this "problem" sounds like an out of game problem and not an in-universe one
This explains why you get to face different gyms depending on whether you're playing sword or shield. Which reminds me, I believe the new trainers introduced in the expansion pass are working towards becoming gym leaders of the psychic and poison types respectively, if I recall correctly?
My personal biggest problem i have with sword is the difficulty is way to easy actually that's been and issue for awhile it just sword or shield just feels super easy i enjoyed no doubt just that's been a issue for me they could always add another mode after you beat it once but what you going do right lol
@@olimar_09 The problem with just "Raising the levels" is that you can out-level that difference anyways. It'd only extend the time you need to take to beat it and not increase the enjoyment. One solution could be there was SOMETHING at the end of the game to work forward too (Battle Frontier or something similar). You'd have take your time breeding, training, and putting a well-balanced team together because you're forced to fight other trainers on an even playing field. A great way for you to test and gauge how good you are at BEING a trainer.
Having a difficulty setting after you beat the game, to make the game harder by giving the trainers good ai, more Pokémon and higher levels. Black and white 2 did this by its challenge mode. Unfortunately every one seems to forget challenge mode exists despite the fact it's another reason why black and white 2 are the best games in the franchise.
People have been complaining specifically about the EXP share for years now, which I never understood because you could turn it off, but in Gen 8 it's on ALL the time, whether you want it or not. Just another contributing factor to the ease of the game...
My problems is that-of course- mostly gen. 1 got favored yet again getting gigantimax forms and some getting regional forms and evolutions. Also, a lot of Galar Pokémon take a bit too literal with inspiration with British culture, which not ever a bad thing, but a bit too much: a ghost in a teacup than a teapot, creamy desserts, some based on knights, punk rockers and a hooligan. While interesting, it got kind of annoying just seeing those multiple times. I did enjoy the games despite the negativity and what potential they could’ve had, and I have hope that the dlc helps make up for that.
The game is just completely lacking...everything. The routes are sparse and devoid of much character, the story is very basic even for a pokemon game and the overall design of the region is just... boring. Living in Scotland myself, I feel like there’s so much rich lore and history that could be used for pokemon designs, as well as player customisation options, yet, beyond the bagpipe music, there really isn’t much. Every aspect of this game could be better and it’s SO frustrating how good this game COULD have been
I was so disappointed in the routes... like there aren’t even any puzzles and have no point to return to... I’d much rather have detailed routes than the wild area... there were tons of places I wanted to see mentioned in just the card flavor text too. Where was Bede’s orphanage? What about the other companies owned by Rose? Where did the princes live? Where does anyone live? Maybe Alola spoiled me but you’d think that’d be a thing to stay at minimum.
Pengersick castle is one place I really wanted to be represented. It is one of the most haunted places in the country, and the last official lord according to the stories was a powerful wizard.
I also agree with what you said about the Zigzagoon Galarian form. It added a lot of personality to an otherwise fairly forgettable Pokemon, as well as gave it a more powerful new evolution to boot.
Not to mention, there is some sense to the regional design. The Galar form is based off the look of badgers in the UK, while the original is based off badgers from Japan. And the added punk look is just icing on the cake.
I think my biggest problem was that I felt very unmotivated. In other games you had either a mystery ahead to explore (at least the first time around) or a story that motivated you enough to finish it. The only reason I finished the Galar games was because the whole time I was like "there has to be something interesting ahead right? Right? Nope. I ended up beating it, finding the story and region to be boring and uninteresting and died a little inside.
I don’t really like how many people are hating on galar so much. I’m not saying this video is bad it brings up some good points. But the issue I have with the criticism is when he is talking about milo all the gym leaders have equal teams they need to use a set team to make the gym challenge possible, during the tournament they all have similar level Pokémon which are their actual teams.
You can’t be more true. They need an overhaul to create more routes and create more secret places even if they are empty like in most games. It’s better to have the option to go there then have restricted areas to only look at from a far.
Some issues I have with the game is: 1. that the battles (especially raids) are so slow. The text will let you know about every little thing when I just want to move on to the next thing (and I'm not talking about move animations, most of of those are pretty quick). 2. No voice acting 3. The way online raids are handled. It would be better (IMO) to be in a lobby or waiting list to specifying what you are looking for. Instead of trying to be first with no real way to refresh the list when you'd like.
I don't mind the voice acting thing cause that's every Pokemon game ever, but the battles... yeah those can be rough. I'd have to disagree about move animations though, I guess specifically for the Raids because every time any Pokemon even takes chip damage it feels like another ten seconds gone...
With all this it still does feel like one of the better pokemon games to me, but I can't help thinking it's unfinished. There really isn't very much content. Most of the fun comes from the wild area and raids get stale relatively quickly. Dynamaxing was fun, until it was boring.
Once aggron makes it's way to the galar region, they will have someone else to worry about. An influx of metal eater, and one of their main cities is based on metal
So quick thinking about the third issue, they actually fully explain that in game. Milo himself says that the way the gym challenges work are that it's based on how strong the gyms are relative to each other. That's why there is a specific order for the gym leaders. So Milo knows that he is the weakest of the gym leaders. But remember, gym leaders in galar don't stay static in their position. They can change around depending on who beats who in the Pokemon world tournament. that's the reason why sword has Gordy and bea while shield has Alistair and Melony. Gordion & bea lost their gym priveledge that allowed them to be major gym leaders and we're relegated to minor gyms in shield and it's the opposite in sword.
It conflicts me so much because Gen 8 is better than Gen 7 in some aspects. But it really isn't the next big step we wanted when comparing to how other series came to the switch with a big splash. But the sales are good so Game Freak doesn't care.
Honestly, the sales do disappoint me slightly since they did really well (as well as other Great games like Odyssey and Breath of the Wild) but maybe after enough burns people will walk away and they'll finally see...
If you talk to NPCs, the Galar Gym Leaders duke it out to determine the Gym Challenge order. Strongest to weakest. Those multiple battles at the Pokemon League without the Champion is basically how it's done. And Kabu's Gym Challenge specifically is what makes him Gym hard in-universe, since a Champion Tier trainer like him is obviously holding back akin to many past Gym Leaders just like Nessa doubles down on. I'm more surprised you didn't finding the abnormal weather problematic.
I have not played this Gen yet but. I've watched quite a bit of gameplay... To me this is the 3rd region in a row where GF has not realised the potential of the region Kalos, design wise, is one of my favorite regions but we never got full access to certain areas. Some were empty and not really recognizable Sun and moon were too linear for me and it just felt too forced for me, because of that I feel like I didn't ge the time to really appreciate the region. The towns also felt really boring and lacked character. This while being in a region where you could really make them unique With sword and shield, they really did not optimize the potential of the console. They basically made a handheld game for a console and that's a big letdown. I hope the DLC add a lot of flavor and I definitely think we should get full access to the complete pokedex in the future To me, this game had the chance to really branch out the history 1nd flavor of "poke-Europe", especially with the history of The UK and France and with a great war happening between kalos and an unknown faction/region in the past. I do hope the gen 4 remakes are going to be a good good experience, if not, I fear for the future of the franchise (the games at least)
My problem is the Champion Defense Battle when you’re the Champion. Think about it, you enter the Challenge for a chance to battle the Champion, so why am I battling as a contestant when I AM the Champion???
For the pokemon one, as much as it was memed for Dexit, Galar having gone through something like Brexit is a *semi* plausable reason for why so many pokemon just aren't about
Team Yell's whole purpose for founding was to fix their city. They are not evil, also, only certain specimens can trigger the Gigantamax phenomenon. It's like animals reacting to things differently in the real world, or dominant creatures of that species.
The main Problem of Galar is the Charizard obsession. 😄 Red & Blue, Fire Red & Leaf Green: Both sets had a Charizard,, so the next Kanto Remake need a Venusaur and a Blastoise as Cover Pokémon. Gen 6: Charizard gets 2 (!) Mega Evolutions. Well, as for Mewtwo, it's kind of understandable, but come on, there's no way to put Charizard in the same spot as Mewtwo. 😄 And now, Charizard is the main Pokémon of the beloved Galar Champion while the other two Kanto starters don't even exist... That's a bit too much.
You forgot a major problem. The raid system as a whole and the use of online features that are very lackluster to say at least. This is the reason I stopped playing the game after finishing the storyline. Unable to do 5 star raids solo, in need of other players to challenge them, nobody to find in the online matchmaking system. I cannot participate the event limited raids because of this..
I preferred the way gyms were handled in Pokemon Origins where the gym leaders adjusted their teams based on the amount of badges the challenger has. Gen 8 actively opposed that and my favourite type got the short end of the stick so I could be a bit salty but still; I will say that there was a bit of wasted potential of what could have been more open world
I enjoyed playing through sw/sh but unlike other pokemon games looking back at it doesn't make me want to replay through it nor give me the same happiness as others. It's a shame the direction the game has gone and I agree with all your points.
WHAT WOULD A Third Version To Pokémon Sword and Shield For eternatus As The Game Mascot BE CALLED ? Pokémon Cannon or Pokémon Spear ? if it were to happened ?
My biggest problem is no GTS. I would like to just trade with myself as I got both games so to get some of the trade evolutions, I know I can find wild Dusknoir to ease this off, but I can't find Rhyperior? I don't really mind Dexit as we are approaching 1000 Pokémon with just about 100 left to get to it and they're giving a few more with the DLCs, but cutting this off feels wrong. I know there's Pokémon Home to transfer the exclusives (which I admit makes it faster as I can just transfer them in bulk instead of one by one) and that the GTS exists on it, but your traded Pokémon won't evolve. I'd just like to go to the GTS deposit a Karrablast in Sword, close it, boot up Shield trade that Karrablast for a Shelmet and then do the reverse to complete the Dex
We need that Game Freak give something to feedbacks, National Dex, Megas, Z-Moves amd Dynamaxing in one game, with more Pokémon, Megas, Exclusive Z-Moves, New Gigantamaxing, maybe a New type. Open world, fight The Gyms in any order, there's a gym for all types, all It in a New region, it could be awesome If you could travel to older regions, and fully explore all of each region to worth the price. Add more culture and story to the region. It could be a awesome game.
Thats wishing for a bit too much there, having an all region game would either make every other game look horrible, or just be boring. They would have way too many gyms, and you would be level 100 by the third region and get bored quickly, or be amazing and kick every other game out of the water. As much of i _want_ that, that would be too much to wish for.
#6 was a problem for me from the start (the whole idea of an “evil team” in this story feels like it was shoehorned in), and #5 and #4 aren’t issues for me, but I didn’t realize how much numbers 3-1 bothered me until now. I only watched play-throughs of the game since I can’t play it myself, so I didn’t pick up on those things right away. But yeah, what gives? Why make all these beautiful landscapes and not let us explore them? Why not come up with in-universe reasons why certain Pokémon can’t be transferred in? Not hating on Pokémon or Game Freak, but someone dropped the ball hard and I would like to know who. I have some guesses as to why, but I don’t want to assume anything.
For me it helped when I viewed team yell as misunderstood rather than pure evil. They never claim to be evil, and outside of inconveniencing trainers they don't don't do anything remotely bad. On a few occasions they are seen doing things that are objectively good. Their motivations are good even if they sometimes take their actions a bit too far.
A personal rewrite of Galar would probably go something like this: -Have an actual evil team, replace about half (minimum) of Team Yell's appearances with said evil team's. Basically, if Marnie isn't physically around - then Team Yell has no business being there and should be replaced. This evil team is to be the main antagonist of Macro Cosmos and Chairman Rose until the reveal that Macro Cosmos is in essence the "actual" big bad. This evil team intends to absorb the dynamax energy of Eternatus - who in this rewrite is an Ultra Beast (revealed during post game, alluded to by the evil team in the main campaign) - in order to power a device that, once activated, will awaken the legendary wolves, so that the evil team leader can become the next hero of Galar. You stop them, but their meddling has begun to stir Eternatus, Rose believes that it's only a matter of time before Eternatus begins siphoning back the energy it has been producing (the energy that Rose has been using to power Galar). So, as a result of this fear, Rose chooses to wake up Eternatus BEFORE your Pokemon League Tournament (having the tournament be interrupted twice in a row before you can fight the champion is stupid imo), Rose tells Leon to go save Galar, you and Hop remember some details the evil team leader mentions about the wolves and go to slumbering weald, get the sword and shield, etc, etc etc. However, this time you can NOT catch Eternatus... Yet. Defeat Eternatus, save Galar, become the champion. Before you fight Leon, the cover legendary becomes available to capture if you choose to seek it out, otherwise you'll have plenty of time afterwards. Eternatus is only available for capture during the post-game at the end of a somewhat lengthy quest featuring some of the Fallers from Ultra Space in USUM, where you learn more about that "meteor" Eternatus originally was. The post game in this version, naturally, exists this time around - unlike the original. -Oh, also have Kabu use the Carkol he owns, and maybe a Hoenn pokemon too (since he comes from Hoenn). Obviously he's the 3rd Gym and they'd rather not give him a full team, but something like Torkoal (with Drought) -> Carkol -> Ninetails -> Arcanine -> Centiskorch shouldn't be too much for the player to handle. They could even make it 4 pokemon by having his Ninetails and Arcanine be separated by game version (Ninetails in Sword with Confuse Ray, Hex, and maybe some grass or psychic coverage and Arcanine in Shield with Reversal, electric coverage, and Intimidate). Like, most people supposedly have trouble with him but he's easily steamrolled by literally any rock or water type in the game. If he's supposed to be the big early game difficulty spike like the game claims he is then he should at least be able to counter the types that would otherwise destroy him. Unless the game really wants you to think that most challengers don't use any Rock, Water, or Ground pokemon and/or moves.
I really enjoyed Sw/Sh, and I've got an upcoming video review on it. But you really got it there with the emptiness. I enjoyed what you *can* access, but so much of the beautiful landscapes are just backdrops to make the game feel so much bigger than it is.
One thing that made me disappointed. How come the trainer can't swim? I can understand certain areas needing pokemon/equipment to traverse thanks to currents or weather.... But we battle swimmers ALL the time! And we can send the pokemon we are surfing on into battle!
It’s not about completing the National dex it’s about having the option to use whichever Pokémon you want they could have easily did the route of sun and moon by having the Pokémon data in game but not part of the dex
It's more that the developers aren't that talented. They've skated by under the radar for years by only making games for the handheld market (sure there's been games for proper consoles, but never one made by gamefreak). Sw/Sh, being the first time ever that gamefreak themselves have made a game for a proper console and it has made their lack of talent blaringly obvious.

Galar having less routes than Alola is just sinful.
Agreed! And Alola at least offered *SOME* exploration
Oh heck you know it
It’s all because of that stupid wild area
I disagree with your opinion the wild area is a great step forward, and less routes are better for less linear gameplay
I think we might expect a fan upgrade of the game like all the other modded games of the series, improvement romhacks is a thing in the Pokémon fandom
Dont think anything special will come out of the official release tho, even with the DLC, it's more likely it will only have more untapped potential and then Game Freak will just move on to the next generation
To be fair, one of the gym leaders is based on the Queen.
@@Compucles which one? The ice one? I couldn't tell that at all.
I would love a kelpie Pokémon.
Galar feels like a rough draft of a pretty good game
My thoughts exactly.
There aren’t enough routs and they just expect you to spend a lot of time in wild area for play time
If I had to describe the flaws of Sword and Shield in one word, it would be: Shallow.

Team Yell is just a worst version of Team Skull ☠️.
I loved... the little bits I saw, but there's just so much of the BASE GAME that needs improving.
I completely agree with all of this.
I personally love team yell for the fact that they aren't the real evil team
in Alola, Team Skull were basically subordinate of the evil team, they are the enemy just really really low tier.
Team Skull were amazing
Alola as a whole is amazing

the wild area felt especially empty, just compare them to the routes in gen 4 when the remakes come out. replaying Platinum I cross a bridge seeing tall grass and a cave below at some point, I immediately went "I've got to remember to explore that later." and it made the world feel bigger. such things invite you to wonder "did I miss hidden area's in previous routes?" it's also why I want more HM's to explore area's in earlier routes that I couldn't reach before and find new pokemon.
No joke; when a Gameboy Advanced game has more towns in it than one on the Switch you know something's up...
@@emperorcubone when two side gamecube games do a better job than a mainline pokemon game on the switch, then you definitely know something is up.
Quite agree. Dynamaxing NEEDS to die.
Yep. It’s kinda dumb how they keep throwing silly battle gimmicks at us.
@@bingus9677 The problem was with just having Gigantamax is 1. Meowth also wasted a slot. Personally I'm not a fan of giving new Pokémon Gmax forms as they haven't been properly decided either they are deserving of a Gmax form by the community. That's worthless
4: yeah, this game is basically hallway simulator the game. Something else I can't stand is how the amount of time to get to the first gym is the same amount of time as gyms 2-8.
3: I'm still infuriated at this. Gamefreak basically lied to everyone in the face and a lot of people who were ok with that
2: huh, you have a point, Galar has basically nothing of a culture. Alola had its trials at least. But Galar has literally nothing
1: yeah, SwSh is basically a hallway. If this was one of the older games you would be able to go through the farm lands, you'd be able to go up a few of the mountains and their caves, you would be able to see the rest of cities. But SwSh? Nah you don't need to see those, just go down that hallway, I mean route, to the next gym

Most of it is just focused on weather conditions, while I kinda hoped it would be like HGSS Safari Zone where different parts of it would serve different climates and different possibilities
Maybe Kabu's a really good trainer in universe at least
Or 90 percent of trainers chose grookey, or given a snom...
There's been times where he's beaten me in the wyndon stadium because I wasn't careful or took him for granted
@@ksoundkaiju9256 the only reason he beat me in wyndon is because i have a mono ice team
So many trainers lose to him because, as the third gym leader, they've basically just started their journey, but are being put up against a seasoned veteran that doesn't take any battles lightly.
na probably the most trainers are around are like your AI team in max raid dens
My personal biggest problem i have with sword is the difficulty is way to easy actually that's been and issue for awhile it just sword or shield just feels super easy i enjoyed no doubt just that's been a issue for me they could always add another mode after you beat it once but what you going do right lol
zenator 846 should they bring in a difficultly option? Just have the same Pokémon but make their levels higher
Collin G fair point yep
Honestly I gotta say, I wholeheartedly disagree, especially with the side-comment about the Zigzagoon Regional Form.
I also agree with what you said about the Zigzagoon Galarian form. It added a lot of personality to an otherwise fairly forgettable Pokemon, as well as gave it a more powerful new evolution to boot.
With the new forms the Zigzagoon family went from a line of Pokemon that I never cared for to my most favourite line of Pokemon.
Except it doesn't make any blasted sense.
Yeah as soon as I heard that unjustified obstagoon hate I came running to the comments to see who was going to call him out on that.

I remember think when do we unlock the second wild area
Right? There could be at least 3 or maybe even 4 with all the space they got...
At one point, you walk past a dirt path branching off past a fence towards a factory of sort.
You never get to go there or hear anything about it.
To me this is the 3rd region in a row where GF has not realised the potential of the region
Kalos, design wise, is one of my favorite regions but we never got full access to certain areas. Some were empty and not really recognizable
Sun and moon were too linear for me and it just felt too forced for me, because of that I feel like I didn't ge the time to really appreciate the region. The towns also felt really boring and lacked character. This while being in a region where you could really make them unique
With sword and shield, they really did not optimize the potential of the console. They basically made a handheld game for a console and that's a big letdown. I hope the DLC add a lot of flavor and I definitely think we should get full access to the complete pokedex in the future
To me, this game had the chance to really branch out the history 1nd flavor of "poke-Europe", especially with the history of The UK and France and with a great war happening between kalos and an unknown faction/region in the past.
I do hope the gen 4 remakes are going to be a good good experience, if not, I fear for the future of the franchise (the games at least)
team yell simping for marnie
I never clicked on the like button so fast you nailed it with this video
My problem is the Champion Defense Battle when you’re the Champion. Think about it, you enter the Challenge for a chance to battle the Champion, so why am I battling as a contestant when I AM the Champion???
To be fair, would it really be fun if you just fought the person who won over and over again, by joining in it’s a least more battling.
I was thinking more along the Lines of The Alola League. And even if it’s more, it still makes no sense.
Side note: The "vast unused swath of land" at 18:23 isn't unused at all, it's part of the north part of the wild area.
Yeah, but look beyond. All those mountains and a giant rock wall behind Hammerlocke we know nothing about...
When will you do the next "missing gym leaders" video?
Chillax; I think you'll like next week's...
The main Problem of Galar is the Charizard obsession. 😄
Red & Blue, Fire Red & Leaf Green: Both sets had a Charizard,, so the next Kanto Remake need a Venusaur and a Blastoise as Cover Pokémon.
Gen 6: Charizard gets 2 (!) Mega Evolutions. Well, as for Mewtwo, it's kind of understandable, but come on, there's no way to put Charizard in the same spot as Mewtwo. 😄
And now, Charizard is the main Pokémon of the beloved Galar Champion while the other two Kanto starters don't even exist... That's a bit too much.
Gen 9 starters might hopefully finally put stop to it.
LOL
You forgot a major problem. The raid system as a whole and the use of online features that are very lackluster to say at least. This is the reason I stopped playing the game after finishing the storyline. Unable to do 5 star raids solo, in need of other players to challenge them, nobody to find in the online matchmaking system. I cannot participate the event limited raids because of this..
But this is a problem of the gamemechanics, not the region
Couldn’t agree with this video more!! I spent a good 15mins trying to find a way to the Ferris wheel until I realized you can’t even reach it
I preferred the way gyms were handled in Pokemon Origins where the gym leaders adjusted their teams based on the amount of badges the challenger has.
Gen 8 actively opposed that and my favourite type got the short end of the stick so I could be a bit salty but still; I will say that there was a bit of wasted potential of what could have been more open world
The new DLC isnt recognizing my pokemon i transferred from home
Its saying i dont got certain pokemon caught and they are in my box
Huh. I've not heard that issue before, but if I'm honest I've barely touched Home since I'm not paying for it. That's pretty rough though...
Just 6?
The entire game was a mistake. Besides the soundtrack
@@WAFilms-gv2en yeap
I've been waiting for this episode!
What I like on Team Galactic and Team Plasma is because they have goals towards the Legendary Pokemon.
A personal rewrite of Galar would probably go something like this:
-Have an actual evil team, replace about half (minimum) of Team Yell's appearances with said evil team's.
I wonder what Legendary Pokemon I should use my Master Ball on?
Save it for the second part of the DLC it has a lot of returning legends and some of them have a really bad catch rate
This whole generation's been a mess.
Definitely. Methinks that history will *NOT* be kind to Gen VIII.
I mean, that doesn't bother me so much cause we've never been able to swim in a Pokemon game...
I feel like there's a few past regions that could utilize the Galar Style Gym Challenge...
The base game needed more 'puzzles'. (think Water gym, but other places)
That's my only real problem with Galar region
I agree. All of the gym 'puzzles' were stupid, aside from the Chirchester one and Gym 7 and 8 didn't even have a puzzle.
I don’t mind the National Pokédex cut because I never completed the National Dex.
It’s not about completing the National dex it’s about having the option to use whichever Pokémon you want they could have easily did the route of sun and moon by having the Pokémon data in game but not part of the dex
The games showed a tired visage of a franchise that the producers have lost passion in
It's more that the developers aren't that talented. They've skated by under the radar for years by only making games for the handheld market (sure there's been games for proper consoles, but never one made by gamefreak). Sw/Sh, being the first time ever that gamefreak themselves have made a game for a proper console and it has made their lack of talent blaringly obvious.
Prophein X not trying to spread hate, but I don’t think anyone here could really do a better job
@@olimar_09 Who here even said they could do a better job?
@@olimar_09 all we are doing is critiquing, none of us said we could do better. Every person watching these videos wans what is best for pokemon, and gamefreak is not doing the franchise they built the justice it rightly deserves.
4:22 I think the form-change from giganticmax Kind of work the same way. How people can bee conduit in infamous. They have a special cell in the body that has more energy
It feels like we all played the Beta and the DLC will be he final game smh
Team yell isn't really an evil team there basically a fan club if you think about it
good video, I agree with a lot of your points, keep up the good work
Will you do this for padea? I'd love to hear your thoughts on that
