  • After 11,000 miles it's finally time to change the rear tire on my 2014 Yamaha TW200. This is the first time the tire has been changed on this bike since it was new, however I did change the tube a while back because of a nail puncture. anyways I hope you found this video useful. Let me know if you have any questions, and I will also be making a video on the front tire as well. thanks for watching!

    People hate on the drum brake but that thing is easier to just unscrew and pull off than screwing around with having to line up the disc in the caliper and they work better when wet than a disc does. They also stop plenty fine for how much you need a rear brake to stop.

    • @TDubsKid
      @TDubsKid  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah nothing wrong with the rear drum brake by I like the hydraulic front disc. Actually disc brakes work better when wet thats one of the main reasons auto manufacturers switched to them

    I can give you a recommendation on this particular video. Instead of using the dish soap, if you have a NAPA near you, go there and ask them for Ru-Glyde. It's their house brand tire mounting lubricant. The stuff is the best lubricant I have found for the task. And it's non corrosive. Soap is corrosive by the way. Great video!

    The trick to getting the beads in easily is to vibrate the valve stem as they go in. Ive used my an old engraving pen and a vibratory sander held against the stem. It doesnt take much vibration and both worked fine for me.

    Nice job and great vid. I'm doing this job now. My bike is a 2016 and only had ~100 miles when I bought it in August but the owner had the dealer install street tires on it. So I'm reverting back to the stock tires. Anyway I also found the inside on my rim rusted in exactly the same way as your rim (although a bit less). I wire brushed what I could and cleaned with isopropanol and coated with one brushed coat of Tremclad. But why is it rusting in there in the first place? The rest of the bike is mint so it makes no sense.

    Air the tube up just enough to make it round but not tight (MUCH easier to avoid tube pinches) and put some powder on the tube and in the tire to help with friction.

    Ditch the balance beads, instead replace with "Ride On" you can find it on line, we used it on several rides across America, will self balance withing 4 miles if the bike has been left static for over a month, will self repair punctures up to 1/4" diameter with almost no air loss. Check it out.

    Hey @tdubskid,
    So I am a new TW owner. I see that the manufacturers recommended PSI is about 18psi front/rear. The tire itself states 33psi max, and mine came from the dealer and is sitting at around 30psi (a little more). I feel like 18 is a little low for street riding, but pretty decent for trails. I am in the city (and in Tx, so not much public land) so I spend significantly more time on the street, but will explore any off-road paths, non-manned construction sites, farm land that doesn't have signs to keep out/etc. It looks like you keep yours at about 18psi... just trying to figure out where I should be. Any info would be great. Thx.

    • @TDubsKid
      @TDubsKid  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      hey there, oh cool, and yeah if you ride street a little more pressure will be nice for speed and maybe the tires will wear less uneven but I just like to keep mine at factory spec. maybe you could try the different pressures to see which one is best for you

    • @TDubsKid
      @TDubsKid  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      that's a great idea, only thing to consider is if it's plastic it can break if the valve stems are over tightened or corroded. but other than that it should work great, you could also get away with just letting the air out without removing the valve, just takes a bit longer haha

      @@TDubsKid An advantage you've got with those beads are the special valve cores. I don't have those therefore I gotta have the stem at a 4 or 8 o'clock posistion when adding or releasing air. I would like to see you repair a flat by yourself out in the middle of nowhere. You are not going to have a motorcycle jack or a car tire out there. You are going to have to carry all the tools necessary to lift the bike up, remove the wheel, remove the tire from the wheel, put everything back together, then a compressor of hand pump to inflate the tire. You are also going to have to carry new tubes, and those huge tubes are going to take up a lot of room. I ride a Yamaha XT225, with an aftermarket centerstand (no longer available) and it takes up about all the storage room on the bike just to carry stuff to fix flat tires. And the very narrow tires on the XT, compared to those on the TW, are relatively easy to remove and reinstall. As much as I would like to have a TW, the flat tire issues will prevent me from ever getting one. I wish Yamaha would put tubeless tires on it. Then all you would have to do is just plug the puncture, reinflate the tire, and be on your way. I have repaired ATV tires several times that way, and it works.
    Those "Bead Buddys" can be ground down a little bit to fit over the spokes on the TW. You can also stuff rags or a piece of wood between the bead and the rim to hold the bead down in the center f the rim. I have a total of 6 rim protectors. My XT225 has aluminum rims plus I also use them to change street bike tires. I use RuGlyde lubricant to remove and install tires. Soapy water is corrosive, and can cause the rust you found on the inside of the rim. That rust was probably cause by your using soapy water when you replaced the tube earlier.
    Motion Pro makes great tools. If they make it I probably have it. I have Motion Pro tools for many different kinds of bikes.

    • @TDubsKid
      @TDubsKid  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah good point, lifting a wheel off the ground is actually super easy without bringing anything, check out how I did it in this video, th-cam.com/video/XYRtxqVthVc/w-d-xo.html yeah I have used everything I carry with me on the bike to remove a tube once, it worked really well. only problem would be I don't carry extra tubes, I wonder in there is a single tube I could get that would work well enough for both wheels in an emergency, would be hard to pull off on a TW200 though, I do carry a patch kit, but wouldn't help if the tube was shredded. also I have a tiny hand pump to inflate the tire, would just take a very long time because it's so small. good idea with grinding the bead buddy down to fit the tw. yeah tubeless tires would be nice for sure, super easy to fix.
