It's always a good idea to use cornstarch baby powder (not talc due to the hazard) on the tube during assembly. This is not always practical in field repairs like in the shop. The baby powder allows the tube to slide in the tire easier during re-assembly, but more importantly it keeps the tube from sticking to the tire. When the tube can move more freely in the tire there is less of a chance of ripping out the valve stem if the tire were to rotate slightly on the rim since the TW does not use rim locks. If you have ever changed a tire and tube that have been together for a long time it can be difficult to remove the tube as it tends to "weld" itself to the tire. Also keeping the valve stem nut loose (or removing it) can let you know if the valve stem gets crooked from the tire slipping on the rim. Also, those Bead Pro tire irons are the greatest ones on the market as you don't need another tool to break the bead. Keep up the great videos.
Awesome video. Thanks. 👍 I picked up my TDub a year ago. End of 2023. With 2,400km or maybe 1,700 miles on it. I just put 5,500km on it this year and only now realizing my TDub is still running factory tires from 1997. Tread is ok too. And no cracking. 😆 🤣 New rubbers on the way including this 244 in 5.10-18. oh nice! this would be a great bike indeed as long as you don't need to go over 55mph, you can get 70-90mpg and can haul a good amount of stuff with a cyclerack. glad they have been helpful! many different motorcycle riders out there haha
If you inflate the inner tube with a little bit of air it helps to prevent pinching it while installing the tire. Also makes it a little easier to install the tube in inside the tire 😉👍 great vids 👏
@@TDubsKid Doh, I can attest to that. I just did my front tire in the house and skipped the air up step as it's snowing and blowing here in Central Oregon. Well guess what I got to do it twice because I did pinch the tube on the last grab.
Brother, I just proudly changed my first tire ever on my TW, with only the help of your video here. Thank you so much. Just wanted you to know this and your other videos are very much appreciated. P.S. The beads go in easy peasy if you focus the vibration on the bottle itself. It controls the flow of beads exiting the bottle and didn’t get stuffed once that way.
1:02 (whispers) “Some people call it the death wing.” I think i’ve replayed that moment to its own death. Thanks for the info! Changing out my 2019 Tdubs stock front tire to a Shinko tomorrow (dumped my bike too many times already). We live on the Colorado front range as well and graduated from mtn biking to dual sport motorcycles to do exactly what you’re doing. I did freak out from your motocamp vid and you hearing the freaky mtn lion screaming, but we’re still up for the challenge😬. This is my favorite channel!
haha glad you enjoyed that, nice! I like my shinko tire, makes the steering feel a little heavier though but grips better, haha yeah that was quite scary, don't think I got much sleep after that
Awesome video. I've changed a lot of tires, and this was great! I will pick up a set of Bead Pro tire tools. The bead on the rear of my DR650 is almost impossible to break free. Maybe these will help? Thanks for the tip. One thing, while cleaning everything up those plastic bearing dust covers do come off with two small screw drivers. This allows you to add grease to the bearing and snap the plastic cover back on to the bearing once greased. Pry the cover from the outer part of the bearing. The factory does not add much grease when new.
TDKIddd, Hey you should choose a day and have a "subscriber meet and greet" I'm sure you would have several people who would want to head that way to do a ride and camp. Excellent video. Wondering if you have tried the Shinko 241 yet? I’m debating between it and the 244. I ride mostly eastern woods on dirt/rock/mud. I deff want a very stable planted feel but also don’t want an overly heavy front end feel. Apparently the 241 offers the best of both worlds. Appreciate it!
Albert Tran it fits good. Tw has same rim size in front as a dirt big rear. Nice to be able to run lower air pressure without pinch flats and beating up rims.

You don't need to haul out he BMW GS Adventure beats out for a cookie and milk run. Having a front tire that doesn't wash out when you look at it funny is critical to getting your cookies home uncrumbled. Watch out for bad advice from idiots. ASK THE PEOPLE THAT RIDE THEM.
Thanks for the great videos! Lots of good ideas. Do you have any suggestions for a windshield for a tw200. I do more riding on road than off and the weather is getting cooler. I don't want something big and ugly but maybe you have some good ideas. Thanks Brian
no problem! the jimbo shield looks neat. I think a guy on the forums make them. not very simple to purchase. the univereal ones seem like they work pretty well if you use locktite haha
TDubskid I bought a new 2021 TW200 last year and I only had chance to put 100 kms on it off road, I do light trail riding but come across dirt roads with deep gravel at times, wet clay and mud as well as hard pack single trail. I’m not too worried about pavement performance but wanting to get a replacement tire as the trail wing almost caused me to bite dirt few times from slipping on mud and gravel. My choices are between Shinko 241 and 244, why did you choose 244? How do you like it for mud and gravel roads? Did you ever use or consider the 241 or have any opinions on it?
Hey, not really any particular reason I chose the 244 haven’t tried the 241 so I cant say for sure. Ill try a 241 next so I can compare. The tw does like to wander in mud and sand I have found
+JAY OFFMAN thank you! Haha I totally forgot about that, I carry a small hand pump on my bike but probably would take an hour just to inflate the tire 🤣
Hey thanks bro I did my first moto tire change! Went with the 241. It was not too bad a project thanks to your video 🤙🏽 Have you done anything with your forks and front suspension? I noticed your boots are cracked like mine haha! I was gonna try the fork skins and figured I’d at least change the oil in there if I’m gonna take the buggers off. Eventually I’ll do the stiffer springs too!
hey no problem! congrats! that's a good tire as well. glad it went well. I haven't yet, i'm going to do one on new boots before long and will do suspension upgrades later on
This front tire option is subject of mine lately. This video you posted is now 5 years old. I see some people recommend the SR244 and others the SR241. I have a 2019 with the original front tire and in loose sand, this thing is going to kill you. So I am looking for a "current" recommendation for loose sand (like beach sand) and/or loose gravel and of course still good on the pavement. Any assistance is appreciated, thank you
Easer way. For removing the second side of the tire... take it off the opposite way that you showed. Levering from the outside avoids the first bead interference you encountered. Once the second side is free the rim will drop freely down inside the tire, from there the wheel comes out of the tire very easily.
Awesome video. I'm gonna change the front and back on my TW I got the front trail wing 130 tire. I'm gonna try the balancing beads. Should I put the 3oz beads in that front tire?
@@TDubsKid OMG! I love it! I just tried it out yesterday... It does feel slightly slower (response time) but I immediately felt a huge difference in traction on the street. Wayyyy safer/stable feeling compared to death wing lol. It is slightly heavier than the stock death wing but not by much. Haven't tried it in mud yet but I'll definitely be testing it out soon.
Hey, thanks for this video. It totally got me through my first tire change. Question for you: you used a whole 3oz bag of beads? I ask because I got the same set and looked at the chart after I got the beads in, and it looks like they recommend 2oz. Though, it's not exactly clear. I am running the same tire (same size). If 3oz has worked for you, I am not going to worry about it.
would it be a bad idea to use some blue thread locker on the axel not? mostly just to protect the threads from getting seized but also to make sure it does not vibrate off.
+Snow Ball nice! It’s a great front tire for the tw, it’s probably what I’ll always use, I wanna day somewhere between 7 to 10,000, don’t remember exactly
it's possible I guess but seems unlikly because I don't think anyone makes a kit for the rear tire. it's such a unique size. I don't know much about tubeless tires though. over 15,000 miles on my tw and only had one flat from a nail
I’m very curious where is that sick concrete drainage ditch road way thing is. I live in foco and wanna check it out and possibly try to shoot a vid there! I’m assuming it’s near Sedalia area?
Counteract has a “how much bead calculator” and recommends 2oz where you used 3oz. The tire is 5.10/18, which roughly converts to 130-80/18, correct? Thanks
www.harborfreight.com/1500-lb-steel-atvmotorcycle-lift-60536.html?_br_psugg_q=motorcycle+lifts it's great, I even used it to pivot my van body off the frame to replace body mounts and also used it to support my vans fuel tank. and rear dana 60 axle. works great for a lot of things including motorccyles
Hey is your lift from HF? I think I have the same one lol That bead pro tool is slick. I hate changing tires though, its the only thing I have the shop do.(Pretty cheap when you bring them just the wheels) Oh and if you ever wanna slime or use any kind of puncture sealer in your tube, do not use any kind of balance beads. They will stick to the slime and your tire will not be balanced. Ask how I know ;) haha
+AJ yeah it is! Works great too, I got it with one of those 20% off coupons too, for sure, those tools work very well. Makes sense, im finding out it seems to get easier everytime I change a tire. Hahaha yeah that would make sense 🤣
Hey Brother, how many ounces of counteract tire balancer did you use? I’m installing a 120-80-18 Kenda 270 front tire. I’m seeing two different amounts. 1oz and 2oz. Which would be correct?
looks like 2 oz would be good for that tire, you can see the application chart here www.counteractbalancing.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/ApplicationChartBike2020-v3.pdf
I'm looking to buy this tire for my TW and I'm curious how you accounted for the different tire size with the speedometer. Were you able to change the gear?
it's not a big enough change to make much of any difference. the stock speedometer is not really that accurate anyways but close enough, Ill try to remember to check my gps speed with the tw on this next trip and get back to you
yeah it's quite worth it and I compared it yesterday to my gps and it the tw200 read 50 when my gps read 51mph so only 1 off, that's not bad at all even cars are about 5ish mph off it can also change slightly compared to the tread depth
Or use your girlfriends vibrator whatever is handy! 😂😂😂 great tutorial TDubs! It’s weird though I always seem to be eating breakfast when your vids pop up! Lol keep up the great work👍🏻✌🏻🇨🇦

Screw those balancing beads. I ruined a good tube when I was changing out my front tire. They clogged up the stem and nothing i did would remove them. They got wedged. Did everything from video even vibrated them.

I bought a new 2021 TW200 last year and I only had chance to put 100 kms on it off road, I do light trail riding but come across dirt roads with deep gravel at times, wet clay and mud as well as hard pack single trail.
The tw does like to wander in mud and sand I have found
What is the difference between the 244 and 214 shinko tire??
just different tread I think
great vid as usual, must be heavy riding around with that air compressor in your tailbag all the time. ;)
+JAY OFFMAN thank you! Haha I totally forgot about that, I carry a small hand pump on my bike but probably would take an hour just to inflate the tire 🤣
@@TDubsKid 🤣
I always grease my front axle before putting it in just for the lil twist at the end
nice!
Hey thanks bro I did my first moto tire change! Went with the 241. It was not too bad a project thanks to your video 🤙🏽
Have you done anything with your forks and front suspension?
Once the second side is free the rim will drop freely down inside the tire, from there the wheel comes out of the tire very easily.
thanks for the tip, ill have to give that a try next time
Awesome video.
I'm gonna change the front and back on my TW I got the front trail wing 130 tire.
I'm gonna try the balancing beads. Should I put the 3oz beads in that
front tire?
thank you! nice sounds good, and that's what I put in mine and it has worked great so far
Will an aggressive tire on front, help prevent the death wobble ??
Never had a problem with death wobble personally
This video helps out a lot. I went with the Shinko 241 4.00-18. I can't wait to test it out 💪🏼 Thanks for sharing @TDubsKid
Glad it was helpful! let me know how it is!
Awesome how to TDubsKid ! The views just never end out that way omg so beautiful .
+IRON MAN thanks man! That’s for sure, it’s so great out here
Love ur work the sldetails ... keep it up budy
+panyalvius1 thank you! I’ll keep them coming
If 3oz has worked for you, I am not going to worry about it.
hey no problem, glad it was helpful. yeah It should be an issue, I have had 0 problems so far, and I put beads in a long time ago
I always forget that extra wrench leverage trick
yeah it comes in handy. can get kind of sketchy though
any workaround on a front tubeless tire for the tw??
Not sure
would it be a bad idea to use some blue thread locker on the axel not? mostly just to protect the threads from getting seized but also to make sure it does not vibrate off.
it's a lock nut so, you don't have too but it also won't hurt
You should invest in a Baja No Pinch tire tool. Best money you can spend in my opinion.
may look into that someday
I keep fresh rubber on all my families vehicles ( it helps to have a future son in law manage a tire shop)
nice! it's always good to have decent tires, that's a plus haha
Top quality vid kid.
+Robert Miller thank you!
Thanks for the video. Great info.
+dragonrider385 hey no problem! Thank you :)
You are awesome man....great video!!
much appreciated, thanks!
I don't even own a tw200. But if one of my friends get one I know how to fix basicly their whole bike by now 😂
haha your TW200 riding friend will love you 😂
I run the 244 on front too and I love it. How many miles did you get out of the 244 that you replaced?
+Snow Ball nice! It’s a great front tire for the tw, it’s probably what I’ll always use, I wanna day somewhere between 7 to 10,000, don’t remember exactly
Why not run the Shinko 241 tire? Just wondering.
no reason, maybe ill try it next time around
Great video Bro. I use a 3.00 x 18 front Tire.
thank you! nice does it fit well?
@@TDubsKid yeah it fits well Bro. I have to upgrade tires in a few months but I can't seem to find many options as the rear is a 15 inch.
gottcha, yeah that makes sense, yeah I could imagine there not being a lot out there in that size
This is Why i sub you,,cause ya know your stuff mate :)
hey thanks, so much appreciated :)
I didn't see if you spread the brake pads, makes getting wheel on easier .
+SLAM BOY yeah I didn’t do that, probably would helped though
Can you convert the TW200 rims to tubeless tires?
it's possible I guess but seems unlikly because I don't think anyone makes a kit for the rear tire. it's such a unique size. I don't know much about tubeless tires though. over 15,000 miles on my tw and only had one flat from a nail
I’m very curious where is that sick concrete drainage ditch road way thing is. I live in foco and wanna check it out and possibly try to shoot a vid there! I’m assuming it’s near Sedalia area?
it's over by titan road and santafe
sorta near sedalia
TDubsKid thank you my dude !!!
😀👍
Wish you were still putting out videos
i'm almost done with the next one. had some unrelated stuff I had to deal with
@@TDubsKid that's awesome. Love seeing that little 250 doing things people say they can't.
it's uploading now. haha yeah it's a great little bike even though it's not fast
Counteract has a “how much bead calculator” and recommends 2oz where you used 3oz. The tire is 5.10/18, which roughly converts to 130-80/18, correct? Thanks
I think so, a little extra shouldn’t hurt
i need to edit my tw200 vids like yours ! nice edit
thanks!
What is the brand of the foot activated stand you use?
www.harborfreight.com/1500-lb-steel-atvmotorcycle-lift-60536.html?_br_psugg_q=motorcycle+lifts it's great, I even used it to pivot my van body off the frame to replace body mounts and also used it to support my vans fuel tank. and rear dana 60 axle. works great for a lot of things including motorccyles
IF I DECIDE TO BUY ONE OF THESE TW 200 ,--I THINK I WILL PUT YOUR VIDEOS , ON A HARD DRIVE & KEED THEM HANDY ! THANKS .
Hey sounds good! Thanks for watching
Do you have a video on your tool kit essentials for riding?
I made one a while back, it has changed a bit since then need to make a new one
TDubsKid Cool I’ll look for it!
here is the link in case you couldn't find it th-cam.com/video/BzIO4-HhvcI/w-d-xo.html
@@TDubsKid Hell Yeah! I've got the HF coupons app, so I can always get 20% off and some free microfiber towels or a magnet bowl lol
wow cool, I need to get that app, I always find myself there without coupons. gotta love the free stuff. that store is awesome
Yay a new tdubskid video
+369Productions haha I’ll keep new ones coming :)
Did you ever consider the SR241 for the front tire?
thought about it, maybe ill try one next time
Hey Brother, how many ounces of counteract tire balancer did you use? I’m installing a 120-80-18 Kenda 270 front tire. I’m seeing two different amounts. 1oz and 2oz. Which would be correct?
looks like 2 oz would be good for that tire, you can see the application chart here www.counteractbalancing.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/ApplicationChartBike2020-v3.pdf
TDubsKid thanks Brother!
What's the difference between the Shinko SR700 tire and the Shinko Goldenboy?
Just different tire tread I think
Tubeless tire lol just got it in the mail. Should still work hopefully
nice
well done!
thanks!
I'm looking to buy this tire for my TW and I'm curious how you accounted for the different tire size with the speedometer. Were you able to change the gear?
it's not a big enough change to make much of any difference. the stock speedometer is not really that accurate anyways but close enough, Ill try to remember to check my gps speed with the tw on this next trip and get back to you
@@TDubsKid that's good to know. I'm thinking I'll probably go with the big size then. I'd like the extra grip. I appreciate you getting back to me!
yeah it's quite worth it and I compared it yesterday to my gps and it the tw200 read 50 when my gps read 51mph so only 1 off, that's not bad at all even cars are about 5ish mph off it can also change slightly compared to the tread depth
@@TDubsKid wow, that's like nothing at all. Definitely not even concerned about it anymore. I appreciate you looking into it for me!
for sure, no problem!
Well done, great video
Thank you very much!
The rear innertube link needs an update.
ok thanks, I updated it
anyone ever try Dunlop 605 on the front of their T-dub?
Not me
Excellent video: thanks!
You are welcome!
SOAP is your friend!
for sure!
Like a pro 👌
+BUSHCRAFT AND FISHING WITH THE PIKEY thanks man!
@TDubsKid
I need a Battery ,is your lithium is good buy, should I go for it ,model ??? # Thanks
yup it is still doing great. here is the video about it, th-cam.com/video/EyWMn_MQYzc/w-d-xo.html link in the description
@@TDubsKid awesome thanks
no problem!
How many miles does your TW have?
it's around 13,700 right now
Hi, On your carburetor’s main jet, is there a plastic catch or something? I can’t figure out which way it goes.
hmm not sure, I have never touched the carburetor, I just know you have to remove the bowl to get to the main jet
Or use your girlfriends vibrator whatever is handy! 😂😂😂 great tutorial TDubs! It’s weird though I always seem to be eating breakfast when your vids pop up! Lol keep up the great work👍🏻✌🏻🇨🇦
+smalltownmoto 1 haha I was I knew someone would say something like that. Lol thank you! Makes sense because I schedule them at around 5:30 everytime. Much appreciated, I’ll keep them coming :)
TDubsKid count on me! 😂 lookin forward to the next one bud! ✌🏻
haha 😂 it should be a good one
👍👍👍
😀👍
Screw those balancing beads. I ruined a good tube when I was changing out my front tire. They clogged up the stem and nothing i did would remove them. They got wedged. Did everything from video even vibrated them.
if they were that stuck you should have just drilled a hole though them
I was afraid of damaging the threads for the valve that goes back in.
@@TDubsKid thought about it.
you could probably just do it by hand with a drill bit
@@TDubsKid now I did try that. They are wedged in there pretty good and hard as rocks.
25 to 30 psi on road
18 psi on trail or dirt
That's why it's uneven wear
+tomato makes sense, I don’t have time to change it so I just leave it
Great video!!
Thanks!
No new video in a while?? Teach her to ride and bring her along!
lol I'm working on it the next one is the length of 2 videos. also I have had some other stuff I had to deal with
Im trying the 4.60 sr244. Check out my videos on it. Got a major chub about it so far.
cool. i'm going to try the 4.60 next
What's missing in this video is all the proper swearing and cursing that goes along with every motorcycle tire change.
Haha 🤣
Metric is standard, my friend, not inches 🙂
in america, standard is inches but we still usually use metric for tire sizes for some reason
Want to come and change my tires on my street bike? Lol
haha if I'm honest, no
@@TDubsKid dang, me either lol.
haha 😂
What do some people call the factory tire?....lol
Death wing ☠️
