    Hi friends! Join me for a couple days in my life in todays vlog :) I procrastinated building this new nail polish drawer for a LONG time but Leah helped me build it so I could finally start organizing my polishes lol! I also went to the dentist and shared an update on my upload schedule!
    The drawer is the Ikea Helmer! That's what I use to store all my nail polishes. It's pretty good, annoying to build but it holds a good amount of nail polish in it!

    To help prevent pilling on clothing, it's best to separate laundry by fabric type. So only wash terry cloth towels together, cotton clothing together, fluffy blankets, microfiber cleaning clothes, and so on.

    • @KelliMarissaVlogs
      @KelliMarissaVlogs  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Haha honestly we don't even have enough laundry to separate whites so it always feels impossible to get the laundry in an ideal situation for the clothes!

    • @pollockm3
      @pollockm3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KelliMarissaVlogs unless it is new like first wash or 2, I do not separate buy color at all. I also have a smart HE washer that weighs the clothes so I do not feel bad about doing smaller loads. I hate clothes shopping and then heard that separating by fabrics will help pilling and longevity and that was enough motivation for me. I do also have more clothes to wash since I basically have a uniform I have to wear to work. I understand it's not for everyone though but wanted to share in case you wanted to prevent pilling. Honestly that tool looks fun to use.

    I bought a new Helmer a few weeks ago. I put the Tornviken (kitchen island that I'm not using as an island) together right away but the Helmer is still in my garage. I like building Ikea furniture though, and my sister always makes me assemble what she buys! This is only my second Helmer.
    I'm wearing the new OPI pearls in a skittle while waiting for my new Holo Taco collection.
    My uncle was a dentist in Las Vegas before he had a stroke and subsequently died of cancer. My family had much better luck with him when we went to visit than you did with the office you went to! I'm glad you have your brother for that even if he is across the country from you.

      That’s interesting!! I use Pond’s cold cream every night and I only use waterproof mascara. You have to use a wet rag to rub off the mascara and cold cream and you will need to use a face towel you don’t care about staining with mascara but it has worked for 30 years for me. I LOVE these Ikea drawers, but I hate putting them together. When we moved I got several and built them myself (and gave my old ones to my husband for his home office), and so many of the ones I built literally fell apart because I thought the drawer supports were in place and, yeah, they weren't. I ended up having to use a small mallet to bang them into place. I THINK they're all okay now, but I've got the mallet here and I'm prepared to smack some sense into the drawers as required.

    I'm not sure which I struggle with more, polish storage or multichrome eyeshadow storage. Both I want to see the colors from the outside and my favorite see through magnetic palettes were discontinued when MG went out of business. But nail polish is so much more bulky and I want to drag out all my polish and look at them before I pick one for the week... if my collection was 50, it would be easy... but its probably about 500 or more and growing rapidly. I stopped using waterproof mascara for Thrive tubing mascara. I was worried it would be all over my face if I cried since it comes off with warm water but it turned out to be tear proof!
    Sadly Vegas is bad when it comes to healthcare providers, dental providers and mental health providers. There are a few decent ones out there but you are more likely to stumble across the bad ones here.

    I love “Garnier Micellar Water For Waterproof Makeup” with the blue label for getting waterproof mascara off. I just soak a cotton pad with it, press it against my eye for a bit, and it melts it off with minimal rubbing. Definitely feels like every trace is gone when I’m done. I used to live in Vegas and had an amazing dentist. I had to do some research to find if he was still around, and he is. I had a broken tooth on a Friday, and my regular dentist wasn't available, so I called all over town to find one who could see me on a Friday afternoon. I found him, and the team was wonderful. They fitted a temporary crown, saw me first thing Monday morning when I walked in because the temp fell off and spent over an hour trying to get it on, and was able to get me a better deal, with better material, for the onlay than insurance originally quoted. They had to order it and it was way faster than they said it would be. My now ex-husband even liked this dentist and he hated dentists so much that he avoided them for 10 years! DM me and I'll be happy to give you the info.

    FYI - for waterproof mascara: i use waterproof mascara daily just because i have really watery eyes and i can be more emotional. I use Heimish All Clean Balm. I personally love that one, but there are other cleansing balms. The idea is to use an oil based cleanser to remove the oil based mascara (hence waterproof) then go in with a water based cleanser after to remove any water based makeup. Hope this helps. 👍

    You need to call your insurance company and report that dentist. A cleaning consists of more than brushing your teeth AND removes the tarter. Your insurance company should drop them immediately as a recommended dentist and allow you to go to another for another cleaning. And I can’t eat my pork roll sliced that thick. The joy of pork roll is the crispy outside on thin slices! Hope you enjoyed it and thinking about getting a pork roll, egg, & cheese on a roll right now.

    1) I use “Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water All in 1 Removes Waterproof Makeup” (with the blue lid, not the pink). It works super well for me, just melts off my waterproof mascara!
    2) I love your sloth shirt!
    3) That dentist office sounds super sketch. They got upset because they couldn’t pull one over on you two and your wallets, you should definitely report them.

    I use Pond's Cold Cream to remove my water proof mascara! It also does a great job removing foundation! I use a small amount and rub it everywhere and then wipe everything off with a washcloth. Just btw this will probably stain your washcloth so use one that's nice enough for your face but one you don't mind getting stained.

    The bare minerals oil cleanser works really well to get off waterproof mascara. Takes about a minute of massaging the oil onto the lashes and then you can rinse it all off! I’ve been using the Clinique waterproof mascara daily for the months and I don’t feel I’ve lost any lashes or irritated my eyes

    I went t the dentist in New Zealand recently, I need 5 fillings, a clean and one extraction. that with the initial consult came to $2,000NZ (1216USD) On top of that my work has health insurance cover and I opted to pay a bit extra (28NZD a fortnight) which gives me 75% off dental and optometrist. So for $2,000 worth of work I'll only be paying $500NZ (304USD). The dentist also split it up for me on a quote in manageable chunks and by most important.

    I use BiFacil from Lancôme. I’ve tried other brands and they don’t work as well as Lancôme’s version. I like it because it doesn’t make my eyes blurry like cleansing balms and melts waterproof mascara without me having to rub much at all. It does leave a bit of an oily film, but that will wash off easily when I cleanse.

    I use jojoba oil to remove waterproof mascara. It's a bit messy but I wash my face right after so I don't care. I drop 2 drops of oil out of the dropper onto my finger and gently rub it across my lashes with my eyes closed. do the same for the other side. I let the oil sit on my closed eyes for a minute and then gently massage the makeup off. I wipe off the oil and makeup with tissues, again gently, and that's it.

I'm even willing to drive to Vegas since we head out there 4-6 times a year anyway (we live in So Cal). 😂 But seriously, this has me giving second thoughts to getting that drawer set. I need something for all my nail polishes but I didn't realize how much work it would take. 😱 And I am terrible at putting things together too. I was watching one of your stamping videos when this popped up! Glad you discovered a lint remover. I’ve used one for years but they used to be called sweater shavers. Be careful though cause they can grab to hard sometimes and pull a hole in the clothing. Well maybe the upgraded ones don’t. I bought your galaxy themed plate and have been playing around with stamping. It’s so fun. I want to learn to stamp my non-dominant hand. Wish me luck. Thanks for sharing. I enjoy your vlogs!

    So far I only have the Alex drawer from IKEA, but I need more storage, so thinking of getting a Helmer next. One thing I don't like with the Alex drawer is that you can't pull out the drawers all the way, so you can't see or reach what's all the way in the back. It seems like that's not a problem with the Helmer?

    Three questions re: polish storage...
    (1) Do you have any brands that don't stand up in the Helmer drawers? If so, which ones?
    (2) Once you had to switch out your Melmers for good, what made you choose the Helmer over the Alex? (I mean, I realize the Melmer was a dupe for the Helmer all along, so what that the only factor??) The Helmers just seem so incredibly flimsy & polish gets so heavy, I'm just wondering if the Alex isn't more robust for the weight demands.
    (3) I suppose this question doesn't make much sense with all the time, effort & money you've invested in [7!] Helmers, but have you ever considered changing to a wall mounted system of some sort? I've seen several from other major polish collectors on YT where they just DIY'd their own out of extremely basic, yet effective, materials from the hardware store & it looks so easy when they post their (what I'm sure are meticulously edited) videos.
    I'm an 'out-of-sight-out-of-mind' gal so a wall-mount approach is what I dream of, but I don't have the tools, experience or confidence to build it for myself, nor the resources [read: handy friends] to help so I'm stuck trying to make other stuff work without breaking the bank.

    • @KelliMarissaVlogs
      @KelliMarissaVlogs  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Haha all great questions! 1 - All of my polishes do fit in the drawers! I can only imagine Louboutin polishes wouldn't fit in them, but I'm sure there are others. 2 - I do have an Alex drawer for my makeup and I honestly don't love it, I prefer a lighter drawer system and one where I can fully remove the drawers since I'm swapping them out pretty often when I organize! and 3 - I actually talked about that a bit in my nail tower painting vlog, I'd love to do a shelving system at some point but it's something I'll probably consider down the line when I actually have a permanent residence and can nail it into the walls, since I'm just renting now!

      @@KelliMarissaVlogs All excellent points, thank you! I recently corralled my ever-expanding collection into a single unit but I foolishly thought I could make do without a trip to Ikea & bought a 9-drawer plastic unit at quite a reasonable price (just under $40 before tax). I like it well enough, save two points: (a) not all brands fit standing up [looking at you Orly, China Glaze & Morgan Taylor], which kills *A LOT* of space, and (b) the casters don't like my carpet too well so I lose the benefit of being able to easily roll it around to where ever I'm painting my nails that day.
      Ah well, perhaps one day we'll all have the luxury of customizing a dedicated space to whatever our hobbies/obsessions of the moment are! Thanks for sharing your insights with us, Kelli!!!
