Hi friends! We're getting close to the big moving day, so here's a few things that had to happen first - we picked out our window coverings at Home Depot since our other option was way too expensive, I took a mini break to play on the Las Vegas Strip with friends, and I bought myself some new clothes :)

The mail scams... yes. I have to talk my dad down from a panic a few times a month because he gets these fake letters so often. It's horribly harmful to the elderly population.

Hey girl i just started the vlog but if you havent hired anyone for blinds yet you can easily hang curtain rods and get curtains in any pattern or fabric you want. Amazon and target have really cute curtain rods even in matte black and then you can pick your curtains. I would totally do that over paying thousands for blinds and i really love the look of curtains. They have sheer, light filtering, and black out options depending on how much light you want to come in. Just a suggestion. ❤ okay back to the vlog!!
Ikea is great for inexpensive curtain rods and curtains. Also,another great option if you really want blinds in the long run, just get a few in the windows you really need/want to start and def go with curtains for the rest for now.
Thankfully Home Depot was under the thousand dollar range haha! But we are also getting some Ikea curtains for a couple rooms 😅

you can also just put window film over some windows if you don’t ever plan on looking out of them but still want light to come through

Hi Kelli! First, thanks for vlogging this process bc it's giving me confidence for when I buy a home, but second, I have installed blinds before and it's wicked easy. Pick your style according to your budget (if your preferred style is over your current budget, get mini blinds for a couple years) and just go for it. Great call on getting a moving truck for the couple big things, you're making very good choices for your situation!❤
I'm replying to myself to clarify that I'm just offering a tip and encouragement. Not trying to do any persuading bci understand your crazy workload and sometimes it is worth it to just pay someone to do what you don't have time or expertise for. I pay a cleaning lady sometimes bc I get overwhelmed and prefer time with my family over that mental and physical stress of cleaning.

I have so many things to say but I’ve forgotten them all because I just got back from London and there are literally entire stores dedicated to those types of boots right now so you could not be more fashionable! I almost bought some but knew I’d never fit them in my suitcase. If you ever got to London, PLEASE visit Camden as it is 100% your vibe! 🖤
P.S. Houses are so expensive. I moved a year ago and we decided to put in the super cheap temporary paper blinds for now because we just had too many other expenses to worry about. We’re finally now getting around to being ready to replace them because there have just been so many other high priority things. But like you said, with a house, you have time. Good luck!
The best part is you (hopefully) won’t be moving again for a very long time! ❤ I hang curtains, not blinds. It would be much cheaper for you to do. If you aren’t keen on installing the rods yourself, you can hire a handy man to do that. We also got SimpliSafe as our security system and installed it ourselves. We also stopped using a pest company and haven’t had lots of bugs. There are kits you can buy online to do it yourself too. Owning a home is so expensive! We’ve learned lots of skills to help cut costs.
Literally everything with homeownership is more expensive than I thought! If you can, work on getting a separate savings fund going for house expenses. It’s also surprising how often the “good enough” solutions will last awhile with no impact on your life. Just keep that in mind when things get overwhelming. Things will ease up after you get moved.
The tile is gorgeous, and y’all were smart to seal it right away! The preventative things like that are absolute worth it.
It is so smart to take some time to live before making the changes, it is when you live somewhere that you actually now what you need.

for anyone in the situation Kelli is in with expensive blinds - don't rule out Ikea. They have great roller shades if you have standard sized windows and they're pretty easy to install. We got more expensive insulating and light-blocking blinds for our bedroom (installed them ourselves though - you just need a drill!) and went with Ikea almost everywhere else. Ikea even has a cellular blind option for around $50.
We are installing some Ikea curtains ourselves as well! Thankfully Home Depot prices were VERY inexpensive too haha

I love it to muchhh ❤ It's best to clean twice just to make sure. Buying a new house costs so much especially if you are purchasing new appliances and furniture.
I saw some sinus type procedure where they use a small balloon type thing to go in and clear your nostrils and sinus cavities. Idk if they’re still doing that but might be something to look into 🤷🏼♀️. Also on your windows, when we moved I got black paper blinds from Home Depot! I still have them on a few windows I haven’t gotten to just yet. Those windows need some work on them. We’ve been here for 5 yrs now! 😂

Ugh the mortgage and housing insurance scams are ridiculous in the first six months of owning a house. They do tapper off though!
We ordered custom cloth blinds for our whole house from amazon. 9 windows for around $700
That's awesome! We ended up ordering from Home Depot, we have more windows but with installation it still ended up being around the thousand dollar mark!
there are so many things to buy when you move into a new home, for sure! At least most are a one time thing, like the blinds, etc. And yes, some things you can prioritize and others you can take your time. l Good luck and I love the vlogs!

I am so happy your house stuff seems like it's going relatively smoothly! And seriously, it's soooooo expensive! We were not prepared either. We need to do crazy stuff to ours like get the amperage to the house increased, because apparently it only has 125 amps for the whole place and then the previous owners installed a hot tub that takes up 50 amps on its own(but also we love it so we're keeping it, lol). Also in our home setup time I had a total nightmare experience at home depot that gave me a full blown panic attack.
Clio has cool products! They used to have a store in Union Square in NYC, but it looks like it didn't survive the pandemic. Those cushion compact things are so interesting, I like them! They have sunscreen versions of that product and I really want to order some from overseas but they're $$$$$ and I just spent all my money on a house 😅
I'm glad you're taking time to do fun stuff with your friends and not letting the house stuff eat your life. And good call getting movers for the heavy stuff, I did that when I moved in with my husband and it was such a relief not having to rope my friends into trying to move large heavy things!
Its nice that you have so much time to move out of the apartment. When my husband & I moved, i think we had like 2 weeks, so we were rushing everything.
Kuromi is a sassy sweet bunny! Also a Hello Kitty friend. She's my current fave because she's cute & has a lot of merch in my colors, black & purple. You are way ahead of the game! I’ve been in my house for 2 years now and still have paper blinds on my windows. We’ll eventually get there! Lol.
I have a cat and he is a blind chewer so in our new house that had curtains, we also just did curtains. We have massive windows and we were able to get 108 inch extendable black modern rods for $80 each on Amazon and then I just shipped sales at target, big lots and ikea for curtains on sale and just went with cheep options and some of my windows have 4 panels but you can’t even tell. I like having sunlight in when I’m home and I just close them up when I leave the house. I have a green set in my living room, gray in my den and white in my dining room and kitchen, gray in both the bedrooms and blue in our office and the bathroom windows we did a film on the glass that I really like. I think I’m total I spent maybe $500 on all the rods, curtains and film. And installed them ourselves

Definitely a stressful time for the two of you. Smart choice to hire movers for the big heavy items, last thing you need is an injury. Mentally draining, physically exhausting and financially stressful time…but in the end…big picture…something to call your very own. Kelli, I strongly advise having a backup plan of friends with trucks/trailers big enough to haul your couch and other big stuff. It's been my experience that truck rental companies (i.e. U-Haul) may or may not have a vehicle available for you, even if you have made a down payment AND reserved a time. Their excuse is "Well, we can only take the reservation but we don't know what vehicles will be returned and available at the time you specified." And then they don't refund the down payment. Just what you need on an extra anxious day when you're trying to move.
20K quote for blinds? I'm channeling my inner Oprah, "Whaaaaaaaaat?"
Haha I couldn't believe it either. Thankfully we found a CONSIDERABLY cheaper option in Home Depot!
You can rent a truck by the day at home depot for about 40 bucks a day
The blinds quote made me choke. We just bought wood Hunter Douglas blinds for 5 large windows, and including installation it was under a thousand!
Haha yeah absolutely bonkers! Thankfully the Home Depot quote came in at around 1k with installation for a ton of windows so we are going with that!
It occurred to me that it’s funny that I wear so little makeup (blame the *P* and WFH), but I still so enjoy your videos INCLUDING your makeup.
Not adding to your expenses. But I saw this show from Vegas. And the lady did turf for her yard. Can last 15-20 years and she got some sort of sustainable rebate or something. Just a thought for the future. And you are right home ownership is expensive. And then you have that anxiety about giving people money and then not getting the work done. (Seriously so paranoid about that. LoL!)

Obviously, it's SUPER dry out here in the desert southwest & it can be a hard transition especially when coming from a more humid climate (humid = more than 15" of rain/yr). Unfortunately, everything pays the price - eyes, nose, lips, sinuses, hair, skin, nails, etc. Great job investing in a water softener! They are essential out here. I've always described the water softener water as feeling "slippery".😂 It's definitely hard to describe, but that alone will help a ton!
I also highly recommend getting at least 1 humidifier for your bedroom. I know they aren't "sexy" lol, but they really help, we use them year round because we have a/c vs a swamp cooler. If you have a swamp cooler that puts some humidity in the air so you may not need it if that's the case.

We actually bought a humidifier when we first moved out here but for whatever reason our breathing is easier without it haha! I think the lack of humidity was a big draw for us moving 😅 But we still have an air purifier in the bedroom because we like the white noise!

Made to measure blinds are so bloody expensive aren’t they!😂. We bought first home in February and we were determined not to spend too much too quickly but the real wood Venetian blinds and roller blinds we got came to over £2,500 for 9 blinds! (in UK)it was worth it though as they look good and I didn’t trust measuring and ordering myself. Can’t wait to see more of your journey as you make it your home! X

Our blinds are white, faux wood from Walmart. They look great. They are only on the front of our house because the back faces acres of woods so we just have sheer curtains. It's pretty easy to hang blinds and curtains. I can do it and I'm not handy lol.

As soon as you said you tried to have WiFi in both places at once I laughed because I knew the company would find a way to mess that up. I find that sometimes calling billing even for tech issues can get you help quicker because billing is concerned about customer retention.
On my last move I was without WiFi at the new place for like a week because I had to be home for the technician to come. Turns out it was actually completely unnecessary for a technician to come because all I did was set up my router before he even got here. When he got here he was surprised I did it myself and it was all working perfectly so he just left.
I'm loving all the preparing for the move content. So happy for you guys to have your own home. But there's definitely a lot of upfront expenses. The projects can come later as you're settling in and don't have to worry about going between two places.
When i bought my condo, the lawyer warned me at the signing that i would start getting all sorts of nonsense in the mail. Five yrs later, i still occasionally get something about my "mortgage insurance." But yeah, real estate purchases are public info so that's how they get you so fast.
It really should be illegal, that's so crazy!!
I’m pretty sure the DMV sells your info, too. My Mom gave me a car. No money changed hands except between me and the DMV. One week after registering it, I got one of those bogus car warranty things in the mail.
It's going to feel so good when you're moving into that house and can just relax in your own damn house. Just do the most important stuff now, houses are always a work in progress! I've had a hole in the wall of one of my showers since May, we'll get it fixed eventually lol don't have the funds yet (not using it rn of course).
When we got our house we started getting pounded with credit card companies, companies offering to buy our new house, insurance companies all kinds of places came out of the woodwork

Our move was in-town but I believe it! The first guy I spoke to said it was allowed if we just paid for the overlap but I think he was wrong haha!

Out of curiosity, have you considered curtains, at least for some windoss? I would think they might be cheaper than blinds and curtain rods are easy to hang. (coming from someone who isn't handy at all and got curtain rods up and curtains hung.) congrats on the new house! I'm loving the videos.
We are going to install curtains ourselves in a couple of rooms but it's too expensive to get them for most of the windows since they're too big and would need custom sizes!

In response to having your life put together, there are two ways to look at that. Basically nobody has their life put together, because what does that mean anyway? Haha… but seriously, you are young, have your own business (TH-cam), you’ve got great collabs, you bought a house AND you’re dealing with anxiety and everything else we don’t know about through it all. If that isn’t having your life put together, I really don’t know what is.

@@KelliMarissaVlogs It’s all in your mindset. Part of being a perfectionist. You’re always you’re worst critic. Everyone else is impressed with all you do and it’s hard to realize when that voice in your head is telling you what it thinks you need to be doing and everything you’re doing “wrong.” It gets easier the more you let yourself be yourself without caring how people are judging you or who is going to accept you. Because the right people will accept you and the others aren’t worth your time. And it’s not selfish or self-centered to recognize the hard work you’ve put into something and all of the good and bad choices you made to get where you are and be proud of yourself. That took me more than 30 years to learn is that being proud of yourself doesn’t mean you’re full of yourself. lol!
I recently purchased a condo and got the same flood of mortgage scams. I liked the ones that said I was in default on my mortgage when the mortgage wasn’t even 30 days old yet. The attorney that did the closing warned me to beware of them. Makes me so mad for the poor people who fall for them!
Moving is such an ordeal. I'm sure things will settle down once you get everything out of the apartm Moving is always expensive. Make cheaper choices and upgrade later. My husband and I got lucky in finding some of our blinds… we went to a store called ‘It’s $5’ which is a decreasing price throughout the week thrift store kind of. We found blinds for a couple bucks that fit multiple of our windows and then installed them ourselves. We are not handy at all, and it was still pretty easy tbh. You can definitely shop around for blinds wherever and either install yourself, or find a handyman to do it for way less than these companies.
Also, I 100% agree on the scam mail thing. It’s super heavy whenever you first purchase a home or car. Suddenly a 100+ year old home is “under warranty” or you have a “final warning” on coverage for a car purchased 3 days ago 🙄 It’s ridiculous, should absolutely be illegal.

Is your house new construction, or did the previous owners take all the appliances? Just wondering why you have to get window coverings and all the appliances. Is that pretty common with new construction? The upside is you get to choose the ones you want! But it's expensive to get all of that new.
Lol, we have some cordless blinds and I have the hardest time lowering them 😅 seems to just be a ‘me’ problem. Most people probably don’t even mess with theirs but I have cats that sometimes manage to raise them. I feel crazy every time I struggle, don’t know what I’m doing wrong! 😂

Still watching so maybe this is useless advice, but we were able to pick out our own blinds at a store and get them cut to the right size and install on our own. It’s still expensive, but not quite as expensive as that quote you mentioned! Good luck with everything!

I just spent $10K replacing water softener and heater and minor plumbing repairs. 😬 As for the remark about your boots, i guess you asked and he told you! Sinuses.... I suffer bad with them. Then a couple of weeks ago I had a bad infection that caused my throat to flare up. Got some meds and my doc advised to try a sinus wash.... total game changer for me. Not sure if you have tried one but could be worth a go. I could breathe again. I'm a bit squeamish when it comes to my nose but it's not bad once you get it done the first time. I used the Neilmed wash.

Oh gosh I'm glad to hear it worked out for you! My main issue is that I have a badly deviated septum, so the passage for my nostril is just fully blocked by bone :(

Kelli - Congrats on your new house! It looks beautiful!! I suffered with one nostril that “didn’t work”for a few years. Finally went to an ENT and he told me I had a deviated septum. I had no idea! He recommended surgery. I did not want to do it at first but a friend talked me into it. Best thing I ever did!! I highly recommend it if that’s an option! It’s so nice to be able to breath out of both nostrils!! I actually had to go in a month later for a second surgery because I had so much “gunk” impacted in my nasal cavity!! 😩🤧😝Good luck with everything!!
What purple nail polish were you wearing in the beginning?
The thing with homeownership is that everything takes time (and money) to do. As much as you want to do everything all at once and get it customized how you’d like it, the reality is it’s not that simple. You don’t need to do all the windows at once! You can install cheap blinds you bought yourself for the windows that NEED to be covered (a bathroom, for example). The majority of costs for installation will be the labor, so if you can save that money, best to DIY!
Tackle the things that ABSOLUTELY need to be done first. Then save, save, save to do the remainder. The general rule of thumb is 1-2% of the houses purchase price should be saved yearly for maintenance and repairs.
Any savings on top of that can go to the extras-like landscaping, getting new flooring, countertops, etc.
Changing your mindset to the needs instead of the wants will keep you from going broke!
Oh, I forgot to add Home Depot, Lowe’s and Amazon have removable window films. Cloudy, mirrored and blackout versions. That can adhere to windows for privacy. And no hardware needed installed. @@KelliMarissaVlogs I wish! Blinds are CRAZY expensive. I have 2 kids and 2 dogs… our house came with blinds, but a few of our blinds have been broken… I really don’t want to know the cost to replace it. Probably $75-$100 a piece 😭

Make sure you get the warranty coverage for all the extant big things; furnace, AC, water heater. People fib about how old those things are, and it's a BIG expense! Sounds like you might have a deviated septum-my eldest son gave me one when he was a year old-fat headed kid head butted me, LOL! The worst part of tearing up carpet in a house you've purchased is realizing it wasn't YOU who made most of the stains on it. EWWWWW!

Curtains, if you dont need to black out things then voiles from Ikea and a plain curtain pole will do.

I bought curtains and blinds from Amazon and Wayfair and did it myself. Much cheaper.

20K???? I got custom shutters for my entire house 6 months ago for $8K and shutters are normally 2-3 times more expensive than blinds. That's ridiculous.
