  • Here I diagnose our beautiful, but very sleepy 2004 Sea Doo GTX 4-tec. Top speed before the work: 38 mph. Top speed after: 57 mph!
    I used a Solas impeller and wear ring

    That is an ace guide! Thank you. I have a 2008 130 GTi and plan to put a SOLAS on over the winter.

      Thanks for the comment! Good luck with your upgrade. It’s pretty easy!

    this is great - I have an '03, also in beautiful condition, with an identical issue. Will be performing the same maintenance in short order.

    A good method to remove the wear ring is to use a blow torch just and heat it up and use a flat head screwdriver to pry it it comes out easy

    Why do so many not seperate the pump and venturi while still on the ski? It's a lot easier if do it that way!

      @NashwaukSteve  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good point! I agree that would make it easier.

      I just did this replacement when my pump sucked up a metal object. Taking off pump and venturi together was fine once I found enough drive extensions to reach the nuts holding the pump to the hull, also use a deep well socket for the pump nuts it'll make your life much easier. Putting it back on I did the pump then the venturi and it all went together perfect.
      I took it out yesterday afternoon and noticed much better performance than before the pump sucking incident.

      @@charlespattrell5631I agree with you. One 10” extension and a short 17mm socket was juuussst too short. A deep socket and 20” did the trick.

    Could you provide a link to the torque specs you found for a 2003/2004 SEADOO GTX 4-tec please?

    Nice video, thanks for your efforts. I do have a question. Did you happen to look at the maximum RPMs of your ski before and after the repair? I wonder if the problem effected the RPMs as well as speed?

    • @NashwaukSteve
      @NashwaukSteve  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hello! Yes, I did look at RPMs. I’m not sure, but I think this engine is limited at 7500 RPM. Before the replace, I’d hit the gas and it would run up to 7500 very quickly, but the ski was very slow to accelerate. After the fix, I only hit 7500 when I’m cruising fast and pushing it up to 57 mph. Out of the hole, it doesn’t max RPM anymore.

    Thanks for the Video. Was a bit hesitant about doing it. I checked the Solas Wear rings but they were all stainless steel. Where did you get yours?

    • @NashwaukSteve
      @NashwaukSteve  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! I bought through Bay Area Powersports. They had the plastic ring, Solas impeller, and removal tool for a decent price as a kit. I don’t really support the whole stainless wear ring idea. If it’s stainless steel, then it’s no longer a wear ring. Goood luck!

    • @coop802
      @coop802 ปีที่แล้ว

      ok, I'll let you know how it goes, ordered the solas 12/20 impeller and stainless "unwearable" ring

      Thank you for the video! I think I bought the kit as you the wear ring was regular not stainless. Used the freezer advice and was a really easy job.

    What is the gap between impeller and plastic insert now ? By manual it should be 0 mm up to 0.3 mm

    • @NashwaukSteve
      @NashwaukSteve  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t have a manual, but I saw .025” somewhere. That’s like .6 mm. I had places where it rubbed and places where I could slip a .0300” feeler in. The performance improvement was excellent! Good luck!

    Do you know what the two screws holding the wear ring are for? I ordered a new ring and housing but the new ones didn't have holes. I skipped putting them in, but when I accelerate the ski revs up and then accelerates once I hit around 13 mph.

    • @NashwaukSteve
      @NashwaukSteve  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmmm that’s interesting. I’m not sure why it would be doing that. I don’t think the screws are necessary if the wear ring went in snugly. Did you replace the impeller at the same time? An out-of-tolerance clearance will certainly make acceleration poor.

      GTX 4-TEC Models
      After wear ring installation, it is required to fit
      screws no. 36 to wear ring. Using their holes in
      jet pump housing as a drilling guide, drill 4.5 mm
      (11/64 in) diameter holes in wear ring.
      CAUTION: Drill carefully paying attention
      not to damage threads in jet pump housing.
      Drilling holes prior to screw installation will
      avoid wear ring deformation.
      Install screws and torque to 6 N•m (53 lbf•in)
