    Getting a lot of "well a Tesla is cheaper" comments. You're not the target-audience my friend, and that is totally okay. Why do some people get riled up about something that doesn't fit their needs or budget? Options are great. That's why some people buy a BMW 5-series and some people buy a Toyota Camry. The Camry does the job just as well and is efficient, but some people want something a little extra - and that's okay too.

    Torque-vectoring is not irrelevant for EV:s. There are different types of ways you can obtain that feature. 1. Open diff and use the braking system to do it. 2. Use two independant motors in the rear or 3. Do it like Polestar and use a clutch system that can distribute torque how you want it. Which option you chose as a car manufacturer will greatly differ how well you can do it. Polestar's option is about as good as you can get without having a dual motor rear axle. Very different from applying brakes to try to get the same effect. Polestar is supposed to be a performance brand, so they do things the "right" way that enthusiasts like. It's like a true limited slip differential in a car. Sure, you could get similar results from braking one wheel, but enthusiasts love a true LSD instead of some wonky software solution.

    • @mho0
      @mho0 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Yeah. Real torque-vectoring is equally relevant for EVs as it is for any other car especially if you are sporty car or sporty brand in the first place. Naturally no point to have that in 'basic Corolla'.
      Applying breaks to do tvectoring just feels so stupid while you are driving.

    • @vhg2599
      @vhg2599 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, it was a strange statement. Seems like there are quite a few reviewers/commenters that do not appreciate sporty driving dynamics. Or have just succumbed and accepted that these heavy EVs has the driving dynamics of american muscle cars?
      If you have driven a FWD hot hatch with good torque vectoring like VW GTI, you would know that TV is able to transform a moderately potent car with understeer characteristics to a turn hugging sports car.

      @adamtisell8779 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don’t understand why torque vectoring isn’t relevant for EVs only internal combustion propulsion systems ?😂
      Yes, some manufacturers choose to have open diff with or without dual motors or clutch, example BMW with i4 M50 and Tesla model 3 performance. Both are fun-ish but having driven both, they’re not particularly special. I can only think off one pure fun car with open diff, McLaren 720 etc.
      Ironically it’s has an internal combustion engine haha

    If you think this is expensive. Viking you need to price match it to the Audi etron and the BMW IX. This polestar 3 is a bargain compared to those evs. And the polestar 3 is better in a lot of ways. Please make a video comparing Audi etron / bmw IX and polestar 3.

    I can’t stand it when people in the media say ‘customers are confused’. We also hear ‘voters are confused’ all the time on the news. I am not confused. I can work out which of the 3 or 4 options packs I’d like for my car and I can do that without my brain hurting. I would assume that if you’re in the market for a $90K car you’re probably not confused about car specifications either.

    Methane emissions from the fossil-fuel industry rose to record levels of 120M tons last year, “despite technology available to curb this pollution at virtually no cost”, according to Agence France-Presse. Reuters added that the high levels of methane emissions were produced despite commitments by companies and governments to plug leaking fossil-fuel infrastructure, according to the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) annual methane tracker report. Separately, a new study in Nature concluded that US oil-and-gas infrastructure emits THREE TIMES as much methane into the atmosphere as government estimates suggest, the Associated Press reported. According to New Scientist, the study was based on nearly one million aerial surveys of methane leaks, creating what one of the scientists described as “the largest such dataset that has ever been assembled”.

    In the US lease is the way to go for any car with a CCS charge port. That way you can turn it in at the end of the lease and by then most (if not all) EVs will be NACS here. Plus you stand a better chance to get some benefit from tax credits.

A very nice looking vehicle up close. Sam’s advice here is spot on for the U.S. market in particular - that is, if they can avoid going bankrupt. Like so many EV manufacturers their stock price is in the toilet. Too bad they are Chinese, otherwise GM would be wise to buy them out and learn from them how to manufacture a good looking EV.

When this car came out 7 years ago it was truly groundbreaking, but unlike other manufacturers instead of releasing a completely new model every 7 years, Tesla have just done a face lift. I cannot see why anyone would be excited with that. Doug makes errors on pretty much every review, not just Tesla. So, the Viking has joined the protectionist ranks even if he is half-hearted about it - a tariff wall is regrettable but necessary in his reasoning because otherwise 'we're screwed'. Who is the 'we' in that statement? It is Legacy Auto and their mouthpieces.
    There are several obvious problems with the 'we're screwed' hypothesis. First, the speed of the EV transition matters more than saving Legacy Auto.
    Second, tariff walls can only achieve ends that benefit the public at large in very limited circumstances. Historically, emergent industries that were at an early stage in their evolution did benefit from the protections afforded by sizable tariffs. None of this was automatic, though. Other policies to encourage the growth of industries that were seen as critical were also necessary. Fostering economic development and prosperity lay at the heart of these policies and measures. So, does saving the necks of bloated and inefficient corporations that were once substantial engineering operations but nowadays are mere vehicles for the maximisation of shareholder returns count as fostering economic development and prosperity? Absolutely not. Sizable tariffs will only serve to cement in the bad practices of these inefficient businesses as the norm and remove any inclination to shift away from that norm due to all competitive pressure having been eliminated. Quicker change will be achieved by leaving tariffs as they are.
    Thirdly, none of this is necessary. China based automakers would be very happy to invest in new manufacturing facilities in the USA (and elsewhere) to build EVs locally but the US Administration just doesn't want that. It is willing to support inefficient automakers making ICE vehicles in preference to having a single EV made in China (except when made by GM, Ford, Toyoya or Honda) sold on US soil. That is stupid and an affront to EV buyers.

    Polestar is designed and manufactured by Chinese Car Maker - Geely. Polestar is TOTALLY Chinese. This is Why They Slashed the Price Before Going on Sale.

    If Trump get's in he will double down on the Chinese tariffs and Biden might have to as well . Until they are manufactured in the US the support for these cars are in doubt. I hate the multiple small speaker trend . Since BMW has done this there sound systems have sucked . The 4 inch speakers in the doors is a bad thing.

    I wish you hadn’t mentioned the Chinese barbaric abuse of dogs. It’s upsetting and not everyone needs to hear that.

    I thought they were bankrupt. Why would anyone risk getting one when aftersales support is terrible on all EVs, but in this case, would be non-existent?

    Torque vectoring irrelevant for EVs? Are you a straight line racer? Why would the type of propellant and motor address the issues torque vectoring are addressing.
    It is not like the battery or motors get more information of the traction, chassis dynamics or user input than an ICE car. Having individual motors for each wheel is not the same as torque vectoring. Torque vectoring is the process of distributing power between the wheels to achieve better traction and turning while you apply power or brakes. The level of sophistication of these calculation and the application of the torque to the wheels makes all the difference in the world:
    And it is the only way to make these fat ass EVs not just understeer like most of them, or having very dangerous oversteer charateristics.
    25 speakers are used to compensate for the horrible audio environment a car cabin is. Coupled with individual impulse response profiles you are able to accurately mimic much nicer listening venues than inside a car. It can also double as active noise cancelling, but I am not aware if that is the case with Polestar 3

    My wife and I are long time subscribers, but your gratuitous description of the dogs in China was incredibly upsetting. This is an innovation and disruption channel, it should never be as emotionally confronting as this video.

    Let's all rush out and buy a Chinese EV which, in all likehood, won't be around in a few years. Hopefully, Tesla parts are interchangeable with Polestar.
