    As someone who has a short commute and can charge at home (and also has a new EVgo DC fast charger less than a mile from my house), I picked up a 2022 Polestar 2 Dual-Motor with 12K miles on it for $36K. I absolutely adore it. The exterior is sleek and I think it will age like wine, the interior is fantastic (I love the driver's display and gear shifter), the driving dynamics are excellent, the acceleration is brutal in the best kind of way. I'm not the biggest fan of the "glue an iPad to the dash" trend, but at least the P2 has a responsive and easy to use system that makes VW's infotainment look like it was designed by monkeys. What makes the Polestar worth it to me is it feels like a European sport sedan that just happens to be an EV, as opposed to an EV that's trying so hard to be futuristic that it breaks things that weren't broken (see: Model 3 turn signal "buttons").

      I did the same with the sister car C40. Don't know if this is also true for the Polestar, but I found an aftermarket cover for the glass roof. I may take it off for the winter, but not having a cover for the screen is a non starter in NC summer time.

    I have a 2022 Polestar Model 2 and I live in Dallas. I've had no trouble with the AC cooling it in the summer time and we often have +100 degree days in the summer. It has not been an issue for me at all. 😊

      Glad to hear it. Todd grew up in Texas and talks about vent placement on many cars. The difficulty of screens and vents needing to be in approximately the same space is an issue for lots of vehicles. We found this P2 got comfortable but took a while. Thanks for watching!

      @@TestDriveVideos Thanks! I had the same concerns as Todd initially before leasing the Polestar. I thought the location of the vents was odd. I also thought about how hot it would get with the all-glass roof. But it really hasn't been an issue at all. On those really hot days when the car is parked in the sun, I try to remember to use the phone app to turn on the AC a few minutes before I get back to my car and that helps.

      @@TestDriveVideos There is a pre cooling/heating option in the app you can schedule or turn on remotely, then its just maintaining the temperature. I agree though that it can take a while to cool off without cracking the windows and putting it on full blast, but what car isnt that way?

    Thanks for a great honest review. The "since 1959" is all about the 3-point sefety belt which Volvo invented in 1959. Love the Polestar 2. Great drive, great premium built. Waiting for the Polestar 4 to arrive later this year.

    You guys nailed it regarding public charging. I've got an i4 (yes we've talked and I'm on your patreon) and I LOVE it around town. I stopped taking it in distance trips because public chargers are absolutely awful.
    Oh look this is 150kw and rated 5 stars! Plug in...40 kwh. Or constant disconnects...I've only had three appropriate public charging experiences, the rest were broken charger, unable to charge, slow charge, etc, etc, etc, etc.

      Where are you based? I have fast charged a Polestar 2 for the last 3 years on electrify america and evGo at least 3x a week. I am in upstate NY and have only ever experienced maybe 6 attempted charging sessions that failed or had super limited KW output. In my experience there is a learning curve to the chargers themselves, the sequence to initiate the charge successfully as well as your own car, range, charging curve and driving style. YES YOU NEED A HOME CHARGER IF YOU DRIVE AN EV. It is far more expensive and inconvenient to fast charge you can charge at home off a regular outlet (slowly) or install a proper 30-50 amp circuit, otherwise most parking garages and public parking options have chargers now, range really is only a problem when doing trips if you otherwise wake up with essentially a full tank every morning.

    So, nice review! I've had my 2022 Polestar 2 Dual Motor with Performance pack for about 26 months. Mine had the original software upgrade which yields 475hp and 502 lbs. of torque (the new one makes 20 less hp, but more torque) and mine will get a 3.9 second 0-60 runs (using Racebox). As you point out, this is more than anyone needs and pretty much the limit of what this chassis can handle...It can get incredibly squirmy when launching, especially with a full battery. Your comments regarding the heat from the glass (there is no shield or electrochromic on this model) and the center vents are spot on (especially in south Texas where I live, it's HOT!). The vents are oddly placed but I have figured out how to get some air from them onto my face. The center screen tends to overheat when running videos and high processor demand programs with the AC off, and will actually turn on the cooling fans in the screen so I believe the vent placement right behind the screen may have been a cheap "fix" for this issue. 2024 runs a newer, faster processor which may be less prone to overheating, but this is not the best design. Nor are the cupholders, and people complain about the high center console. It fits me just fine, though. By the way, the range readout jumps in 10 mile increments only, so when it drops by 10 miles indicated, you still may have 1-9 miles to go before it drops again. Not helpful. However, the range app IS a dynamic range indication and does adjust pretty quickly based on current driving patterns.
    My biggest complaint is that the toe box around the pedals is very cramped and due to the battery height, there is virtually no foot room under the front seats when you sit in back. This, combined with a very upright seatback and narrow rear door openings relegates the backseat to semi-useless for full sized adults. I challenge Todd to get in and out of the back seat easily. It's really a 4 door 2+2. Of all the EVs I test drove back then, the Polestar 2 was the closest thing to an EV sports sedan I could find. And you still don't see many 2 years later, which means I still get lots of looks and questions.
    Interestingly, the Polestar 2 started out as a 2017 Volvo show car on the CMA platform which is why it looks so much like a Volvo. They got such a good reception to it that they decided to produce it with very few modifications as the first Polestar EV. Newer Polestar models are diverging from the look somewhat but still have that clean, straight lined Scandinavian design ethos. I have loved mine and will be turning in my lease next March, replacing it with the new Polestar 4. Thanks for reviewing it, guys. This is a highly underrated EV. Sadly, depreciation is huge and mine has lost nearly 65% of it's MSRP in just 2 years and 24,000 miles. This means you can find very nice 2 year old low mileage example in the low $30K range now.

    The price of a Polestar Performance is $55k, not $70k. If you lease a Polestar 2, you do get the $7500 rebate which would bring this car down to $47500. The difference in a Tesla and Polestar is build quality. I live 70 miles away from my Polestar dealer and I had one issue in 3 years. It really wasn't a problem with the car, it was a 2 year maintenance check.They sent a Polestar truck to pick up my car and drop off the loaner. Two days later the same truck bought my car back to my house and took the loaner away. The only reason it took two days is I loved driving the newest model with ventilated leather seats and I wanted to keep it an extra day. The driver even parked my car in my driveway. BTW, the loaner was a brand new 2024 PS2 Performance, same as in this video including the color. I have no complaints with Polestar. In three years I have never had to drive to Polestar for any service. Not once. How many people can say that they haven't been to a service center in three years?

      I purchased a 2021 Launch Edition with the Pilot, Plus, and Performance packages; but didn't get the Nappa Leather. It was $66K not including taxes, tags, title, destination charges, or dealer processing fees. Add those in, and it was well over $70K. The power/Performance upgrade was another couple thousand after that.
      A 2024 in the same spec has a MSRP of $69K before TTT. Nappa Leather (like the spec shown in this review) is another $7500. Even if you're including the rebate, a Polestar 2 in this spec isn't really price-similar to a Model 3.

    The 1959 referees to when Volvo first put seatbelts in cars. I think it is just a homage to that and just shows most of the parts that go into the Polestar is Volvo - due to the polestar history at Volvo. But I suspect you guys know that. As usual, great video. Thanks.

    Great review guys. I have a 2023 Polestar 2 Performance PP pack model and I have to say that it's one of the best cars I have driven. I do however disagree with the pano roof cooking the occupants in the cabin. I have found the cabin to be quite nice even on the hottest days here in the Pacific Northwest and the AC does a great job keeping the car comfortable. Also, I have no problem directing the air from the ducts to myself or my wife.
    The charging infrastructure here in Washington is excellent and have had no problem charging where I needed it, from EA to EVgo to Chargepoint. I do have my own level 2 charging system at home which makes this EV ownership fully enjoyable.
    This car is truly one of the best and fun EV's out there, its been fantastic and 100% reliable car for us in a year of ownership and 18000 miles as I type this. Would definitely buy another Polestar.

    2022 PS2 dual motor in Northern Virginia here. Very happy with the car so far. AC cooling has not been an issue. Heating in the coldest days of winter however drains the battery a lot.

    1) The KWH and KW are safety features so first responder know what power risk there are in responding to a wreck. So they are aligned with the Volvo brand.
    2) I just drove from Seattel to LA and back and never had a DC fast charger station at less than 150kW. I had free AC level 2 chargers at 11kW at hotels for overnight charging. Lots of options. Never spent more than 35 minutes charging.

      Not sure about the kW / kWh safety link. There's no sticker on my C40. Anything over a few mA can stop your heart, so the magnitude of the EV battery isn't a differentiator on the potential (pun intended) fatality risk to first responders.

    I have a 2022 PS2 Performance/Pilot, live in TN, and never had any issues with cooling with this car in +100f degree weather. The center vents if pointed down (when you think they're aimed at the back of the tablet) slam cold air in your face haha. With that sad, i didn't want the Plus pack w/ the glass roof because of the reasons stated, but now im looking for leather front and rear seats to replace the cloth ones. Love the cloth seats, but the manual spool adjustment for the seat back is kind of a joke for a $50k-$70k luxury vehicle.
    PS. PoleStar has me wanting for the Polestar 5 concept they have for 2025, if you haven't researched that vehicle yet!

    I love my PS2 LRSM MY24. The long range RWD is the one to go for in my opinion. Enough fast chargers in the EU, even the tesla superchargers are available for the PS.

    50kW max for local DC fast chargers? There are tons of 150-350kW DC fast chargers near me in central NC. Don't use them often, though.

    I have had no problem aiming the vents at my face. They are made so they can "shoot" air in a very steap angle. Also the centrum to the left of the stearingwheel can be printer towards you plus it the car you where driving you also had ventilated seats that blow cold air at your back and bottom. :)
    If Lidingö in those areas where it gets really hot I would get the extra cover for the sunroof that you can get from Polestar. I'll try to paste the link in a comment below. If it isn't there the YT spammare filter has taken it. 😉

      The "since 1959" is a tribute to Nils Bolin at Volvo. That was the year he invented the 3 point seatbelt.

      Sorry for spamming. ;) But the new 2024 P2 model here in Europe got a 82kWh battery and charge up to 80% in 28 minutes. Don't know why you only get the 78kWh in the US. :/
      And then the last 20% takes the longest time.
      I have charged mine from 10-60% in 12,5 minutes. It topped at 203kW. (also new in the MY2024 with the 82kWh battery.)

    I rented a Polestar 2 and loved it but the public charging for non Tesla products is not good, that why I bought a Tesla model 3.

    The best charger is the one at home. I love my EV. But, I wouldn't have it if I had to rely on public charging infrastructure.

    By many accounts, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N might be the fun EV you're looking for. Matt Farah has talked at length about that vehicle on his podcast; he's so impressed with it that it might be his next daily driver for his wife and him.

    Too many companies are copying Tesla with the glass roof, and the screen. They should stay with their designs and not trying to be Tesla.

    Guys have you checked the price of Tesla lately? The performance model 3 is $53k not 70k. And after the tax credit it’s $45k. And you can lease them for starting at $299 a month. They are actually much more affordable than this Volvo is.

    Hi, from Japan!! BEV’s range are affected by a driver how he or she use more than a gas car. Even using an air conditioner affects the range. Therefore, I’m still afraid of having a BEV.

      The EPA rated range on my C40 is 210 miles. I have no problems getting on or about that range with or without AC (typically it's about 230 miles in the 80 ish degree weather in NC at the moment. My daily commute is less than 40 miles. Even a 110V charger can recover that overnight. The 30A level 2 charger at work takes less than two hours. Range is not a big deal. I've used DC fast charger once since I've owned the car. It was lunchtime. I plugged it in. I went to Starbucks for a sandwich and a coffee. The car was charged up before I was.
      So how long does it take to charge an EV. About 30 seconds. That's how long it takes me to plug in the vehicle and then go inside. By the time I need it again, it's full. And no more waiting at gas stations trying to avoid sucking up fumes while filling up my previous dead dinosaur car.

    Tesla model 3 hasn't been $70k for a while now. The new 2024 Model 3 Performance is $46k after fed credits. It does 0-60 in 2.9 seconds.

      Who cares, Elon playing with the market that way is just so sinister and awful and true testament to the darkness that is Americas specific brand of capitalism. Just wild… there are people out there who paid that for the car… and now are so under water on the vehicles all because of how “free market works” also there are definitely new Tesla model 3s buyers who do NOT qualify for those rebates, so your research before speaking. Without the rebates that MANY won’t qualify for and state tax boards are revoking fairly quickly, you can easily still pay 65k. Do research first.

      Not everyone qualify for credit. And if you do qualify, it up to $7,500. No guarantees you even get 1,000

      @Victic005 interesting. Didn't know 80% of the population in the US are above the poverty line. Tax Credit is how much you will owe back in taxes. If you only owed $500 in taxes then they only give you $500, not the full $7,500. $7,500 is max.

    DOA at $70K. I am smack dab in the demographic for this. Looking to go electric from an Audi A4 and really love the looks of this. But it's easily $10K too expensive. Maybe even $15K.

    I’ll take my Audi S5 over this because I can stop and fill up in 5 minutes. Range is an issue in almost every EV.

      That's nice, I wake up to a full tank every day because I recharge overnight in my driveway and don't need to go out of my way to find a gas station. We take our old gas car for the every-couple-of-months occasions where the trip exceeds our EV's battery range.
