The current state of Fisker cars are bad, but of all the "unknown" brands of EVs, Fisker isn't the one I wanted to disappear. They have many interesting ideas and a version 2 or 3 of the car could be really good.
Added weight compared to what? Glass is heavier, aluminum is the same weight. Unless you're using carbon fiber (which no one is unless your EV is a rimac)
Massive money off in the UK (Ocean Ultra@£43k instead of £57k), but have to accept a worrying condition of purchase: "Due to the current economic situation of the manufacturer Fisker Group Inc. and the Fisker sales companies in Europe, there is a risk of limited support and limited services for the vehicles. Buyers must expect a permanent loss of the enforceability of claims for material defects and warranty claims. By concluding a vehicle purchase contract after April 3, 2024, the buyer of a Fisker Ocean declares that he has been informed accordingly and nevertheless wishes to purchase a Fisker Ocean in view of the risk described."
So if you park the Ocean on the correct slope, The Sun enters the video. This car is really spectacular! By the way: if you measure 1m74, it's not an Asian thing, Bjorn. I also measure 1m73, and I'm pretty sure Belgium is not in Asia.
Its always a massive shame when a manufacturer shuts down, especially if they're doing anything innovative. Competition and variety are always good and benefits the cinsumer.
He's in Norway in April. Low sun through clouds, not southern Europe! Bjorn and others maybe don't understand that shade is a huge killer for solar. Also max is going to be about 350w as that's what a panel that side would do. It's good if you are parked outside and get a few miles a day on a good day. Don't expect miracles in cloudy northern Europe!
I get the feeling that you will lose significantly more energy in heat parking the car outside in the colder months than you’ll gain from that solar panel.
I have experience from electric boats with only charging from solar cells. And it works perfectly in Norway from April to October. You get about 5 times the power. 500w labeled solar panel gives an average of 2500wt per day. on days with lots of sun you can see 7x
As a parent, I like that you aren't sugarcoating stuff! It's real life, and you're an open book on reviews and life. I find it hard to strike a balance between work and home, particularly when it comes to working from home. Any tips?
I love my Extreme, best car i ever had (have had new BMWs since 2002 to 2019). I have had very few kinks and the dings is all explained in the manual :P
Oslo is 60° latitude so the maximum direct sunlight at this time of year (equinox) will be sin(90°-60°) = 0.5 i.e. 50%, and that would be at midday on a cloudless day with a clean roof. For most Fiskar Ocean owners the amount of energy gained with this solar roof is minimal for such a high cost item. Fiskar would have seen more energy gains by improving aerodynamic efficiency or better rolling resistance or HVAC control or improved motor/regen efficiency.
@@SimonCoates I was joking, but I get your point. I have already considered in my mind that for 9 months it would be a hit and miss proposition. Autumn and Spring are so variable that only Summer could be relied upon. Renewables are so unreliable IMO that you would have to live in say California for this to make sense. I think that when the sun shines the most it would be a great idea to cover off the use of the air conditioning in the car through a fitted solar panel.
@@colla555 Never. You do that you increase its drag coeficient. Another word car will be subjected to have to consume more energy while driving in the same speed.
Slashed it's price in half to the price it should have been with all the corners henrik cut with manufacturing (cheap parts) cheap software. Don't own a fisker if you're in the Midwest and see the cold. Cracked uv roof from rain that freezes overnight bc of their lack of a 10 dollar rubber gasket and or bc of the design of a "sun roof" lack of laminated glass/polycarbonate glass. That can withstand all types of weather including hail. But naw just a frozen raindrop in the right place will crack this beauty
Nice as of right now you've bought a price reduced limited edition ocean. 1 of 10,142. Hopefully they don't go into bankruptcy on may 1st brother. With no cash(even with 1b loan) inventory, or manufactory to lean with ch.11 it's looking very grim for fisker.
with this you would need to find the right position near your house or work and make sure to park there during they day to take maximum advantage of the panels but even then im not sure it would amount to much... on the go its definitely useless
Dude they designed to implement the other way around. What's the point sunbath the car beside your house (and absolutely not advisable in hot climate) where you have strongest -cheapest source of energy, your home charger! Solar roof in this car is designed to pickup energy while its driven , to add more range or another word to lower the net consumption of the car. However I wouldn't be too optimistic of how practical this is. Say area on roof top equal a 500w solar panel, two hour drive will get you a 1kwh (1unit of electricity). So basically 1% of battery lost could be regained. Probably lower than that in practice.
@@pu7768 the problem is the panel is really inefficient if its not pointing the right way... thats why i said to find the perfect parking spot to maximize the correct position... i havent seen anyone doing a proper test with such a car... sono and lightyear died... aptera is coming sometime never... what you would need to do is find long stretches of highway going east-west and try to drive the whole day forth and then back... i bet once the sun dips below a certain angle the panel production dips significantly... also it might not work if you go very fast
They would have got better solar results sticking a few cheap flexible solar panels to the roof, even they put out more than 34Whr each on a cloudy day. That solar is so poor they may as well not bothered with that option.

@@Steve-fe8gu Probably some added weight, also complexity. Then to get any real gain you'd have to leave it out in the sun all day. I don't understand why people are bashing Fisker for this car, you can't compare it with companies that produce gas cars and EVs since many years it should be compared to the first Tesla Roadster because it's a totally new company. Looks like most of the complaints can be fixed by software updates.
I like that colour, too. Unfortunately, it's still a Fisker badge on a car doing Fisker things from a company that's on its way to going Fisker.
I have seen a video where someone modified the Fisker badges on the car to transparent dark black (color delete). Looked better.
Saving .3% with solar is great 👍 Especially when the added weight is probably increasing consumption by .4% 💀

Boats are normally not parked close to trees, buildings in garage or under roof, unlike cars.
