It's grown on me every time I listen to it, it's gone from good to f***ing great. Learning the guitar parts makes you love it more and Liams clever sus4 note he sings on the verse is magic.
Definitely can hear the Driving South solo in here...and the break before Liam reads out the colours leads me to sing.."Now we know where we're goooooing....." I would be interested to know if John deliberately wove sounds from each era of his career (except his solo stuff) as an "I'M BACK! - REMEMBER ME??" statement to the world . Either way, I'm just glad he is back! Had me going through old Roses videos on TH-cam - I even watched that movie, "Spike Island" lol! The Roses were so frigging good! A short time with us - but incredibly sweet!
Personally i think it’s in top 5 liam solo tracks. John has also spoke about the meaning behind the lyrics, it’s not just a song about a rainbow for a laugh. He uses it as a metaphor for opportunities that arise yet don’t go to plan
@@sanjaypanchalmusic yeah it definitely took a few listens for me to get on board with it fully. Think we are in for a treat especially if they are all produced like this
Im a "typical Oasis Liam fan," and this song after hearing at least 50 times is in the Top 5 post Oasis Liam song to me. It gets better every listening, incredibly good, I never looked after The Stone Roses, maybe probably I should if this was really their sound.
I was 15 when definitely maybe was released and was instantly on board prior to that a massive roses fan and I can say from both sides this is a fucking ace song , can't wait for the album
The rainbow " bridge" section where Liam is singing the colour's of the rainbow is a reference to how gay rights has taken over and made a monster in it's wake hence the lyric we've crossed a line.
It’s a belting tune. Gonna be mega live. Why people are so negative is indicative of modern day misery. Fuck em. One bit that drives me wild is the last bar of the solo leading into “just another rainbow” is sexual music
Idk why they autotuned the fuck out his vocals. I heard some clips of the new song and it’s the same thing there too. Why have a sparse old school production but then ram his vox with effects
Here's my Song Analysis thoughts, feel free to discuss 😊 To me the song (written by Squire) is all about his disappointment with the Roses Comeback post 2016.. becoming a treadmill (windmill gong through the motions on a fixed point) of the Greatest hits etc. I hear it in the lyrics, But also in the Guitar Solo / instrumental ( it starts with a kind of 'Grand Build.Up / Opening", then a duel between light and heavy (showing the conflicts of personality in the band), which eventually fuses together, but then spins away again at the end, and ends with 7 very 'high pitched notes' (musical rainbow) and then Liam starts singing again. That instrumental is telling the story of the Roses 2011-2018 ish .(to my ears)...I really like the way its done. Also I think the rather odd choice of simply listing the Colours of the rainbow, then the next line is "We Crossed The Line" is makes me think Squire is saying that The Roses were kind of taking the mickey at the end, getting away with an almost satirically childish single (Awful One) and just playing the same old hits again
Really like your analysis of the lyrics I hadn’t thought of that point around listing the colours of the rainbow and how the roses weren’t taking it seriously anymore!
John's guitar work is more I am the resurrection solo style than his works on second coming which was heavily influenced by taking lots of cocaine and listening to led Zeppelin records. I personally love both roses albums turns to stone b sides being my favourite in between, but I hope it gets more millennials listening to both bands and hopefully gives music a kick up the hole and brings back good British indie 💪🏻
I think the lyrics are about Johns disappointment that the 3rd Roses album didn't happen. Listen to it again in those terms. Its very vailed and the fact that Liam sings it also goes for Liam and his disappointment with his brother in a lack of Oasis reunion. The lyrics are mysterious because that's the way John works, he would never talk about The Roses publicly but he just did it behind wordplay.. If he had given more away anyone would have got it..
Could have just about got away with that colour listing thing if they'd done a full-on psychedelic wig-out while he was doing it - I do really like the production of it though; a few nods to early Who, the Beatles (obviously) and a couple of guitar licks nicked from Sympathy for the Devil. It's good stuff.
Apart from the obvious color spectrum recital, the lyrics do have quite a deep meaning. "No pot of gold".. etc. It's about life flattering to deceive, its about hopes and dreams..
Quite an intricate analysis although I do think he's reading too much into it and coming from an angle that is perhaps not completely relevant, the intention is to capture nostalgia with the style and vibes of the early 90s from Liam's voice and sounds of the stone roses, my only criticism is in agreement with the song lyrics being sketchy and it's as though the apparently deliberate simplicity masks the lack of skill which is mistakenly being perceived as poetic.
@@BloodSweatAndMeth Fair one, you would need two Ns, not a stretch of the imagination really, you have a can full that is all the colours of the rainbow, it will spray brown out.
I find it fery strange you have a TH-cam channel critiquing artists when your own delivery is very poor. This video is so choppy where you have edited it together sentence by sentence, there is no natural flow to your dialogue. I think you need to concentrate on delivery so not to have to edit the dialoque so brutally. Decent tune though, not ground breaking by any means, but an enjoyable listen if you’re a fan.👍
Super interesting how many different reactions there have been to this song 😮 cool that liam is still getting people talking so passionately about his music
He’s probs the most exciting rock act at the moment which tells you a lot about the state of music right now - having said that he’s earned his praise!
Long time (57) Stone Roses and Oasis fanboi here, I was there, and I was prepared to be either meh or disappointed, as I have been with every single Morrissey record since 1992, but....I really like it to be honest. It would stand as a decent Roses or Oasis track on its own. Certainly not the best from either, but that is really saying a lot for people who are, lets face it, as old as me...
Huge fan of Liam and Roses … but this song doesn’t add anything on earth !!! So predictable and even not beautiful melodywise … and the Colors as lyrics 😢c’mon Liam you must know !!! And guitar part is so long and caricatural… so disappointing … just a dull copy paste of the two doesn’t bring any biblical feeling … both can do soooooo much !!!!
I think people fail to realise the song is about Johns post musician career as an artist. Trying to sell his art work and that being his main creative output. The words are from Squire and it’s personal to him.
i think the band sounds good and liams voices sounds overproduced to shit tbh the the chorus/reverb effects on his voice just sound like shit and drown out the mix in the worst way. his vocals are way too loud for the mix too nothing sounds good around him... outside of him i think its pretty good john squire is awesome but liam is a song ruiner rn :/
like tbh its not even his voice thats bad like sure he's a bit harsher than it was in the 90s but its the stupid fucking effects like idk who decided it was a good idea to make him sound like that. I think a lot of people would have been way more excited for the album if his vocals were less produced and effected ., like i can deal with a few etchy notes its indie ffs but his voice just can't fill up the effects that he's putting on them like he think it can.. its kinda sad could have been a great album perhaps but i think if his vocals are anything like this again its gonna fucking suck
The source of the song might make it more meaningful but it doesn't change how unlistenable it is. The guitar work is on point and Liam's voice sounds great. Still a boring song.
It's fu*kin brilliant... Hearing bods talking about particular lyrics being terrible is just pathetic... Move on if its not for u, just don't insult two of the greatest to ever do it unless u can do better... It's part psychedelic homage, I'm a huge Floyd/baratt fan, and those early psychedelic tunes had unconventional lyrics, designed to create a vibe..."I've got a bike, u can ride it if u like...."😅 The song is a vibe
It's grown on me every time I listen to it, it's gone from good to f***ing great. Learning the guitar parts makes you love it more and Liams clever sus4 note he sings on the verse is magic.

Stone roses are amazing - this sounds like their second album
Love both songs, grown on me now addictive I play them all the time pre/ ordered the vinyl I can’t wait

😂 No, it absolutely isn't.
Would you have liked Liam to play a larger role in songwriting for the upcoming LG/JS album?
I dunno, its nice to see a singer being just a singer and not the band leader

Turns in to stone sorry
I don’t mind the song, you can just tell that John did the writing instead of Liam

Nah, you just speak for yourself. Only yourself. Sit with it.

You were wrong Sanjay! This song was designed to be played over and over again. It's SO good!
Apart from the obvious color spectrum recital, the lyrics do have quite a deep meaning.
"No pot of gold".. etc.
It's about life flattering to deceive, its about hopes and dreams..
Sounds like it was recorded in the early 90s..... Good enough, not great, keeps me open to more
I like the song but it is what is it - probably helps if you're 42 like me 😂
Im doing an album about being a dad if anyone fancies a listen
What a shock!!
I don’t mind the colour part, better than repeating Roy g biv over and over

I personally think it sounds like a demo. Doesnt sound finished to me...
I find you're over explaining why it's supposed to be good. That's a problem.
4Rainbow being an anogram of Ian Brown suggets there is some poetic meaning to the semmingly simple lyrics. Maybe?

I used an AI tool to edit the A Roll - sound is also a bit odd and choppy so yeah I agree I need to improve it 👍🏾
Its gone over your head you probably would have preferred blur in the 90s

So, if it was Liam written = Poor, but now its JS penned = Great.
Erm, ok.
Bang average track all round for me.
👍James Hargreaves✌
This isn't a Liam single, this is John trying, for the third time, to perfect the Stone Roses sound
The Seahorses was his true second coming lol.
Hilarious how you like the lyrics now that you know Squire wrote them… how is that even possible 😂

Its a sucky 'song' - why should you 'understand' a song to simply like it'
The song is ok It's a retro Psy rock/ Brit Pop background track. It's much too monotonous and long despite being listenable for 3-4 minutes.
Try to make sure there isn’t a guitar growing out your head :)

It stinks. Reminds me of All For One and The Seahorses - neither of which are good things.
