I had brain surgery in February, with a 9" incision on the top and right side of my scalp. I couldn't wash my hair for the longest time! I think it was close to 3 weeks. There was surgical glue and icks all over! I used the Pantene shampoo (based on your recommendation) and I never had as good of a shower/shampoo as that day!!! The Pantene worked wonderfully! It was gentle on my incision as well. Thank you for all your hard work!
My mom had brain surgery in February 😅 And the post surgery shower is always something we look forward to and dread at the same time lol. I’m glad your incision is doing well!! I recommend not pulling or pushing the scalp to keep the incision immobile. And if the doctor didn’t give you Betadine, I’d pick it up and apply once or twice daily. My mom also covered the incision with gauze and wore a soft du-rag kind of hat to keep it in place while she slept. Until the incision was fully sealed and the staples came out. Fun fun! 😂 Be your own advocate! I pray, Lord, you continue to recover well. ❤

I have wavy hair and my favorite clarifying shampoo is Kinky Curly Come Clean. It's sulfate-free and uses C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate and Cocamidopropyl Betaine as the main cleansers. I also use a Manta scalp brush whenever I wash. It's not chelating, but does what I need and doesn't leave my dry hair feeling stripped.

Ouai detox shampoo is THE BEST shampoo I have ever used. I use to buy my shampoo from my stylist. While the brand she carries was good for my hair, the Ouai is FANTASTIC!
I ABSOLUTELY love OUAI. I bought the travel size to try and it worked wonders. I wanted to try Pantene and even though it did clean my hair really well, it made it super poofy AND it didn’t last clean as long as it did with OUAI... So, Not my thing!! lol. But thank you for sharing all this information ❤️
I have fine wavy hair w/a normal scalp. I try to use a clarifying/chelating shampoo at least once per month. I have the L'Oreal, Oui and the Pantene and love them all. The other one I have that I really like is Prell. I have been using that one for YEARS to get a good clean before anyone was talking about "clarifying". Thanks for all the great info Abbey.
I have fine, wavy(/curly) hair too! Also highlights. I have scalp dryness (& psoriasis) too, but worry about my fine, dry hair!! Is there one you think is especially good for our hair type?? Thanks so much for your comment!! 🌸
I love the Pantene volume shampoo for my teen daughter. She is going through puberty which has caused her to be extremely oily, especially at the scalp. This with the combination of blow drying her hair after showering has help control her oily hair through the week.
@@GinaMarieCheeseman I would like to see this too. Textured hair kinda complicates things for me. My scalp is on the oily side but because of my hair pattern my hair dries out very easily. I understand it might be hard cause she doesn’t have curly hair, but I would love her insight and recommendations.
For Europeans that dont have Pantene, I would suggest looking for a schampoo that says "volume" or for "thin" hair, cause most of them contains lots of cleaning agents and almost zero oils or silicones - your hair feels superclean. In Sweden I found Barnängen Volym!
I love that I’ve discovered you here on TH-cam, Abbey! I’m naturally a dark blonde with fine hair, but a lot of it. I have struggled for YEARS now to find a shampoo and conditioner that won’t weigh my hair down but also still cleanse out the oils and build-up and condition it well. My husband and I, unfortunately, live in a very old city (and a in very old apt with old pipes), which is known for having hard water. Earlier this year, I had him add a filter on our shower head 🚿 to help remove as much of those hard water deposits as possible because even using Malibu Hard Water shampoo and treatment crystals wasn’t cutting it for me 😳! My skin was struggling too. Since the filter, I just use the Malibu Hard Water shampoo only and always shampoo twice on hair wash days. I wash my hair every 3-4 days/week. I usually get oily at the day-and-1/2 mark like you described, and the only thing that bums me out about the Malibu shampoo is that the scent doesn’t linger at all 😕. I have tried the Ouai Detox shampoo you listed, but I didn’t like it bc my hair was still kind of weighed down with it, and it left a lack of lingering scent too. I may have to keep the Malibu for the hard water benefits and incorporate either the Dove or Pantene options that you mentioned here for the second wash to get a lingering fragrance. I’m very interested in those 🤔🙂. Thanks so much!
Love the loreal clarifying shampoo and conditioner!!!! I can go about 6+ days in between washes when using this. P.S. I don't need to use dry shampoo in those 6+ days either
I’m excited cuz I’ve been using the Kristin Ess one &… it’s alllright but I’ve used ouai detox & it was WAY better. It felt it pretty easily got the product out of my hair completely & well!! I’ve been working in & outdoors this summer so I throw my hair back & have to spray down parts of it to keep in place so, I want it ALL out before conditioning + I get sweaty at work I want that out too. Curious to hear what you recommend, particularly at drugstore.
Yeah Kristin Ess used to be a favorite of mine but I do think it's more difficult to use than these bc of how slippery it is so that's why I didn't include it!
Love the Metal Detox shampoo, smells divine and works well on my coloured, but still greasy hair. My daughter got it PR originally but I've just repurchased it for us - it arrived today 😊 Have the pre-treatment and hair mask toonand again both work well on my hair.
I have a dry scalp and wavy/curly hair but despite that the Pantene volume shampoo still works for me for clarifying. I use it every other wash before my prescription ketoconazole shampoo this combination is so good. As long as I follow with a good conditioner my hair feels and looks great afterward!
Haven’t watched the whole video yet. But crossing my fingers for my fav hair care gal to make a video about gentle shampoos for non clarifying days for every hair type 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
Can we talk about classic head and shoulders? Without fail everytime I use it, it cleanses and leaves my hair, smooth, silky and fluffy fresh at the same time
Dude, I purchased the drugstore Loreal reco and I LOVE. I like it better than Oribe, as it cleanses my scalp while not making the root of my hair feel like straw. Thank you!!
I don't use very stripping shampoos because I realized fairly recently that I have a very dry scalp. If you have greasy hair often but clarifying shampoos tend to make it worse, it could also mean your oil balance is a bit out of wack. Since I've been using rich shampoos for dry hair my scalp, and now hair has been amazing! I use kerastase nutritive.
I started using the ethique clarifying shampoo bar for oily hair a few months ago and I like it 10x more than my favorite liquid clarifying shampoos-I swear, if you have super oily hair I recommend it so highly!
Love the Maria Nila Cleanse and Davines Solu clarifying shampoo. Milkshake Deep Cleansing is great if you need heavy duty cleansing but is REALLY stripping and smells like bathroom cleaner so only for occasional use!😊
I love the Garnier shampoo as my first shampoo of my routine. I have a normal to oily scalp and it works great to get rid of the buildup before I go in with my more nourishing shampoo. Thanks for the recommendation!
My favourite clarifying shampoo is that Loreal metal detox, I have fine poker straight hair that has some colour damage, so prefer it for not being too strong. I also loved the Olaplex blue clarifying shampoo. Although I found the Living proof one too drying and also did not lather properly, so although I used it up, the lack of lather was frustrating so personally disliked that. I would like to try the K18 one but it's so expensive, so might try the QUAI one next
Thank you for making this abbey! I’ve tried so many of the hair (and skincare) product recommendations and they’ve all been a hit. I don’t think I’ve tried one I don’t like haha. Have you tried the new Matrix insta cure build a bond repair shampoo/conditioner/mask??
Hi Abbey. My favorite clarifying shampoo is Herbal Essence Tea tree Clarifying Shampoo. It doesn't smell like tea tree at all. If it did I would never use it. I buy it in the big pump bottle from Target. Great video. Thank you for the content ❤
I used the Pantene one for a while and had to stop using it. I have a very sensitive scalp and it exasperated the sensitivity for some reason. As soon as I stopped using it my scalp felt so much better. I couldn’t put my hair back at all because it was painful. I’m sure this is a unique experience but wanted to share. Btw. My hair has never been healthier since following Abby’s recommendations.
Thanks for the content! I’ve implemented a lot of your tips and recommendations and my hair has gotten really healthy! Next on my list is the garnier filler line 😊
I'm with you on the Ouai detox shampoo as I love it. I don't think I have a super oily scalp per se, but I tend to go about 4 days between shampooing so I get build up. I'll try the Pantene one as I love the price point difference here in the UK between these two - Pantene £2.75, Ouai £22.40. What a difference!
I’m 55 and my hair has thinned considerably, which causes it get oily really quickly. The Ouai Detox Shampoo has been a game changer for me, but I still need to shampoo every other day. I’ll be interested in trying the Pantene Volume & Body, though, due to the cost difference. I LOVE the Ouai Detox, but maybe I can switch back and forth. Thank you!
I have fine hair with a normal-slightly oily scalp. I wash about every 2-3 days, sometimes I go 4, but that's usually due to laziness more than anything. I'm sensitive to SLS so I really appreciate all the options out there without. I can't use it in toothpaste either or the inside of my mouth peels🤭 I am getting ready to try the L'Oreal Ever Pure Clarifying Shampoo (it does smell amazing!). I have also been using a mini of OUAI Detox once every couple of weeks for a refresh and really enjoyed it. I will probably purchase a full-size soon!
Great video! Always enjoy watching your recommendations because your explanations are always well done and always make sense! Was really looking forward to this video as i've been dealing with some unexpected oiliness on my hair/scalp (i used to be able to go a week without washing, now, i gotta wash twice a week but sometimes my hair is a little bit greasy on the 2nd day) and really wanted more drugstore recommendations, unfortunately, all the drugstore recommendations you gave are not easily available in my country :( (products like the garnier one and the pantene one don't really exist here, or at least i haven't been able to find them with another name as that's how they're usually marketed here, and the whole haircare portion of dove doesn't exist at all in my country; as for loreal everpure, i have a feeling it's a US only brand, or at least not available in some countries in europe) would love to know if you have tried any other drugstore products that clarify, even if they're not the greatest, but do their job! Still, great video! Love your content!!
i don’t know, I‘ve been trying to make the Ouai one to work for my scalp, but for some reason it doesn’t cleanse it so well, but the Pantene is the best, i use it every time and i wash my hair about 4-5 a week, i just try not to dry out my hair, that‘s why i use conditioners and sometimes masks for hair ends, and of course hair oiling. And all thanks to you, Abbey💚
I love the Garnier shampoo scent too. I recently got a bottle of the Sleek and Shine shampoo (contains amodimethicone!) and love the jolly rancher scent. So nostalgic. And if my hair doesn’t feel quite clean, gently massaging my scalp with my scalp massager when shampooing always helps.
I received the Ouai detox shampoo in a Fab, Fit, Fun box. I'm looking forward to using it, but I have a dry scalp. I also have thin, fine grey hair and I'm a little worried about stripping my scalp. If this doesn't work for me, I will definitely try the hydrating Dove shampoo. Thank you for all your hard work!!! I would love a deep dive on your thoughts on hair care for grey hair. There are a lot more of us out there now, especially after Cov*d. Many blessings!!!💖💖💖
A couple years ago we moved to a temporary home while we were searching for a new house, we went from well to city water and my hair was literally like straw and turning green! It dawned on me that my hair was suffering from very hard water and chlorine. I had some Suave clarifying shampoo I use for cleaning makeup sponges & brushes. Well I used the Suave on my hair followed by a deep conditioning mask and it was like a fricken miracle!! So if you’re short on $, Suave worked great for me. If you have color treated hair, I don’t recommend it, but in a pinch it will do what it’s supposed to. Now that I know what my problem was, I use Ouai once or twice a month and save the Suave for the makeup tools. 😊
I think the pure surfactant Facetensid HT diluted as a shampoo is best. It cleans without leaving any residue and is squeaky clean and doesn't dry out my hair. I've only been using that for 15 years. That way I never get any product build-up and my hair is always clean and the care products do a good job afterwards.
Thank you for sharing! Ive been on the hunt for a clarifying shampoo since they discontinued the neutrogena anti-residue shampoo, which I used for years. I colour my hair with manic panic, which is a direct dye, meaning it's best applied to squeeky clean, unconditioned hair. Thinking of trying the pantene for the ultimate cleanse. As a side note I often find I can go longer between washes when I use a more gentle shampoo 🤔 not sure if it's just me.
Hi Abbey! I LOVE the Pantene one and have used it religiously not realizing that it's a clarifying shampoo! I recently highlighted my hair for the first time, and of course, the shampoo stripped off the color and toner. I'm going to get it fixed but in the meantime, is there a color protecting clarifying shampoo?

I bought the travel size to try and it worked wonders.
I wanted to try Pantene and even though it did clean my hair really well, it made it super poofy AND it didn’t last clean as long as it did with OUAI... So, Not my thing!! lol. But thank you for sharing all this information ❤️
I really enjoy the Aussie Miracle Volume Shampoo for clarifying! It's given me such a deep cleanse which I NEED as a gym rat with oily scalp.
Abbey please a video of the best fragranced body lotions, butters, perfumes recommendations for every budget
thank you for sharing your knowledge and being one of the few honest influencers! love your content
I have wavy/curly hair as well😅
I would like to know is which hair conditioner would you recomend 🤗
I love the Pantene volume shampoo for my teen daughter. She is going through puberty which has caused her to be extremely oily, especially at the scalp. This with the combination of blow drying her hair after showering has help control her oily hair through the week.
Your channel is awesome, I have such fine baby hair & it's so thin & with your advice it is now thicker than ever, I'm less embarrassed about it
Abbey is the absolute best.
I started using pantene a few months ago and will never look back! I so appreciate all your advice, its made such a big difference to me ❤
I was surprised Kristen Ess didn't make your list! I purchased it because you mentioned it. And I love it!
I have a normal to dry scalp and I've used and enjoyed the Ouai shampoo. I purchased the L'Oréal to try next so I'm glad it appeared in this video!
DAMN! This is an incredibly informative video!!!!
so glad you think so! thank you 💗
I'd love to see a video about the best shampoos for textured hair.
Try Aussie volume shampoo
in Austria Pantene shampoos are very common, and this for a volume is there too, but the packaging is not transparent, but white
Pantene is available in Sweden at Apotea and Lyko. And on the European sites makeup.(your country domain), and Notino.
But I can't find Pantene volume and body anywhere in Sweden
@@pigykpop try to find in notino or other websites that deliver in europe, as in the comment above mentioned
I’d love to see a video where you try out different shampoo and conditioner bars!
I used a sample of the OUAI detox. It blew me away! My hair felt amazing. And yes, my hair stayed clean an extra day!
Love the loreal clarifying shampoo and conditioner!!!! I can go about 6+ days in between washes when using this. P.S. I don't need to use dry shampoo in those 6+ days either
You need to try redken cleansing cream. It’s more clarifying than the ouai shampoo and I can get my hair to go a week without shampoo when I use it.
Love your detailed videos so much ❤❤
thank you so much 🥹💗
The Redken Cream Cleanser is the best clarifying shampoo I have ever used.
Do you have an oily or dry scalp?
@@Mariss_ugh I have fine hair so mine leans more oily.
The L'Oréal Everpure Clairfying shampoo smells like Dolce and Gabbana's Light Blue perfume. Smells so good!
Loreal hydra pure ❤️, we have afro hair in my house it removes product build up very well!! Without making the hair feel stripped.
Which clarifying shampoos are safe for color treated hair? Are any of the Pantene or Garnier shampoos color safe?
Congrats on your certification🎉🎉. Very informative video
Love the Metal Detox shampoo, smells divine and works well on my coloured, but still greasy hair.
My daughter got it PR originally but I've just repurchased it for us - it arrived today 😊
Have the pre-treatment and hair mask toonand again both work well on my hair.
Great video! Looking forward to the continuation of this series 😊
Ouai detox shampoo is my favorite for oily scalp!!! this makes my hair last 3 days! repurchase for sure
loveee ouai detox
Can we talk about classic head and shoulders? Without fail everytime I use it, it cleanses and leaves my hair, smooth, silky and fluffy fresh at the same time
I freaking love it for my seb derm!!
Oooo she's certified!!! Congrats 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
For those in the UK- Pantene Volune and Body is available in savers for about £2
Hello Abbey ! Thanks for the content. How many days per week should you advice to use a claryfing shampoo? Thank you very much!
I got the Pantene one because I saw it on one your shorts, after using it for the first time I went on to subscribe! THANK YOU
I started using the ethique clarifying shampoo bar for oily hair a few months ago and I like it 10x more than my favorite liquid clarifying shampoos-I swear, if you have super oily hair I recommend it so highly!
Love the Maria Nila Cleanse and Davines Solu clarifying shampoo. Milkshake Deep Cleansing is great if you need heavy duty cleansing but is REALLY stripping and smells like bathroom cleaner so only for occasional use!😊
must try!!
I love using Prell as a clarifying shampoo. I’m curious on what your thoughts are on Prell.
The metal detox i use alllll the time on vacation. It is the best!!!!
Abbey put me onto the Pantene shampoo, and it actually made me like my hair again
I love the Garnier shampoo as my first shampoo of my routine. I have a normal to oily scalp and it works great to get rid of the buildup before I go in with my more nourishing shampoo. Thanks for the recommendation!
Hi i would love to see a whole video on split ends and trimming and search and destroy method and whether you use these!
LOVE your makeup look here, you look stunning!! What are the cheek and lip products you used?
My favourite clarifying shampoo is that Loreal metal detox, I have fine poker straight hair that has some colour damage, so prefer it for not being too strong. I also loved the Olaplex blue clarifying shampoo. Although I found the Living proof one too drying and also did not lather properly, so although I used it up, the lack of lather was frustrating so personally disliked that. I would like to try the K18 one but it's so expensive, so might try the QUAI one next
Yay! Great job Abbey. I love your vids. Cant wait to see the conditioner vid! ❤
Looks for products that don’t contain Methylchloroisothiazolinone or Methylisothiazolinone they are preservatives that are known allergens.
Thanks for the content! I’ve implemented a lot of your tips and recommendations and my hair has gotten really healthy! Next on my list is the garnier filler line 😊
Ok, like I said in first comment first one I used was ouai & LOVED it so def gonna go back to that but also gonna try the Pantene!! Great video.🩷
Try the Pantene for sure! I love the Ouai but think I like Pantene more 🤣😱
I'm with you on the Ouai detox shampoo as I love it.
I can't use it in toothpaste either or the inside of my mouth peels🤭
I am getting ready to try the L'Oreal Ever Pure Clarifying Shampoo (it does smell amazing!). I have also been using a mini of OUAI Detox once every couple of weeks for a refresh and really enjoyed it. I will probably purchase a full-size soon!
Great video! Always enjoy watching your recommendations because your explanations are always well done and always make sense! Was really looking forward to this video as i've been dealing with some unexpected oiliness on my hair/scalp (i used to be able to go a week without washing, now, i gotta wash twice a week but sometimes my hair is a little bit greasy on the 2nd day) and really wanted more drugstore recommendations, unfortunately, all the drugstore recommendations you gave are not easily available in my country :( (products like the garnier one and the pantene one don't really exist here, or at least i haven't been able to find them with another name as that's how they're usually marketed here, and the whole haircare portion of dove doesn't exist at all in my country; as for loreal everpure, i have a feeling it's a US only brand, or at least not available in some countries in europe)
would love to know if you have tried any other drugstore products that clarify, even if they're not the greatest, but do their job!
When clarifying should you double shampoo? Hopefully that made sense 😂 I know when you wash with regular shampoo you said you do it twice
Love the dove scalp therapy per your recommendation! So good!
Love Ouai detox and Pantene V&B! I have been using them because of your recommendations and they are fantastic!
My favourite clarifying shampoo is wella invigo scalp balance foi oily scalp. Would like to know your thoughts on this one 😉. I'm really loving to watch your content. Greetings from Portugal 😊
I wish you would've included Raw Sugar's The Deep Cleanse, I really want to try that one!
Hey Abbey! I ❤ all your content. Please can I ask how would I know if I have an oily scalp or a dry scalp if they have similar symptoms? Sorry if it's a stupid question! 😅
Love the Dove clarifying shampoo, bought on recommendation from you. Never would have known that the drug store could work.
