As a wavy/curl girl, I NEED a "wax" or "coating" on the hair. That is what keeps my curls frizz free. Silicones keep my hair frizz free! Our hair is dead, from the second it comes out of our head. So I don't see how coating the hair in oil or wax is going to damage it inherently. Of course there are allergies and sensitivities but as a concept, I don't understand how silicones are bad. Also you need sulfates to clean off silicones. Also....drugstore products barely have silicones/sulfates in them anymore. At least the old school kind.
I've heard that silicones can be removed by any anionic surfactant? I have fine wavy hair and I've actually had the worst buildup with silicone free products, I even have a shampoo with silicones that my hair and scalp loves
@@manojipereira9169 Yeah, they do. I prefer sulfate-free anionic surfactants. They're the perfect balance of cleaning everything I need while not making my hair too dry (but I like sulfate clarifiers). I also get worse buildup with silicone-free products.
Cosmo student here! Drugstore silicones usually aren't water soluble and coat the hair, so the next time you go in with conditioner on the length of your hair it's actually not being conditioned since it can't penatrate through the build up. Salon brands usually have water soluble silicones in them that give the same frizz free effect while being easily washed away with each shampoo, so that's not really a problem.
@@priscillanieto3322 There is no such thing as “drugstore silicones”. Silicones are silicones and there are ones that are water soluble and ones that aren’t. That’s the case in both drugstore AND professional products. Dimethicone in a drugstore conditioner is the same ingredient as dimethicone in a professional one. This is why so many professional shampoos have sulfates - because so many brands have conditioners that have pretty high silicone content because they make our hair look nice. The whole “drugstores have wax that coats your hair” thing that stylists say all the time is outdated information and people are more aware of the need to use clarifying shampoos regularly. Which should remove build up so really what’s the argument? Stylists have something to sell to be frank. Actual studies have been done by cosmetic chemists to compare drugstore vs professional and determined quality was the same 🤷🏻♀️
The biggest breakthrough moment I had was a couple of years ago when I was on a trip without my usual cosmetics and I just washed my hair with my husband's 17-in-1 shower gel, shampoo, face cleaner (and probably toothpaste also) concoction. My hair was soooo much softer and manageable compared to the haircare routine I had which involved pre-oiling, sulphate free shampoo, hair mask, conditioner and oil only to leave me with a dry and frizzy mess. Sulphates and silicones have been the name of the game for me ever since.
I can never understand the argument that sulfates are bad bc they “strip your natural oils”. Yeah, I sure hope it does! Then I’ll just add it back to my ends with my conditioner/hair oils and leave my scalp squeaky clean!!
Exactly, I wash my hair to get rid of the oils and I use pro shampoo to do it bc my hair doesn’t get dirty for ages when it’s really clean like that. I went to cosmetology school, and there was no such concern. I love the blowout professor, he explains why it’s irrelevant much better than I could.
Ya, the only people that really need to worry about sulfates are the bright colors that get faded, or people like me with scalp problems. I have exzema on my scalp so sulfates are a little too strong for my skin, so i just use them about every 3rd wash 🤷♀️
I’m a hairstylist and I tell all my clients to use what works for them! They know what works best for their hair and they have to deal with their hair on a daily basis so if that’s a drugstore brand I’m all for it! Of course I have my favorites when it comes to professional products but not everyone has the budget for them or the need.
Thank you for saying this. I had a hairstylist scold me on the internet about silicones. She was like ,”Don’t tell me and everyone they are good. I have to scrape silicones off of peoples hair with a knife “ or some such. She went in on me full paragraphs. So much so this was a few years back and I’m still traumatized and I’m not that sensitive. 😂
I agree I've tried so many different shampoos over the years to see which is better & what suits my hair type / texture I finally found one I like a while back, u need to try different shampoos on ur hair & u'll see what works for ur hair & what doesn't. Don't forget everyone's hair is different ❤
I’m black and I have curly hair. I realized that silicones just work waaaaaay better for my hair because it adds protection. I sent silicone and sulfates free for 8+ years and my ends kept splitting. I started using sulfates and silicones again besides when I straighten my hair & my hair couldn’t be better
I haven't used shampoo for 2 months. Now I am washing my hair 4 or 3 times a week, 2 times with oil and water only washing and hair mask once a week . My hair is more healthy than ever plus I have wavy hair ( it is just my opinion )
I did the same only for 7 years. My hair went fromm shine, 3a/3b, oily, normal porosity and thick/medium to opaque, 2b/2c/3a, dry, porous and thinning with so much hair fall that my doctor gave me an androgenetic alopecia diagnosis. I can buy professional products but my hair absolutely love some drugstore products we have in Brazil. I always tell people that are no poo to watch their hair closely. If it gets worse, leave it. My mistake was thinking it was a proble with Deva products. I kept changing brands and my hair just got worse and worse... To the point people were asking me if I was straightening my hair.
@@Willowy13 ho . I support using shampoo more herbal based shampoo ex : soap nuts ➕ hibiscus 🌺 and you need to take care of the internal health also. 🥚 egg , milk , banana 🍌 are the few of them . * don't know what works for you because we have different surroundings *
I agree. I went many years with out using conditioner and instead relied on hair mask to keep my hair conditioned. Over the years I just noticed my hair was never as soft, tangled easily and became more prone to breakage. Sulfate free shampoos always leave my hair dirty and cause more hair fall for me. I think sulfates and silicone are great with in moderation.
I am a hairdresser and have been saying this for almost 20 years!!! I have tried ever salon brand/product (yes, giving a solid trial period), and my hair is always at its best, physically and visually, when using drugstore products. Drugstore is not the enemy. Salons are just trying to make a profit off you.
Omg I love this!! In an attempt to get long hair I switched to all the fancy "clean-ingredient" hair products and didn't really like it but stuck with it trying to convince myself it would eventually make it better. Then one day I was forced to use my old Pantene/Tresemme products while travelling and my hair hadn't felt that soft and lush in months lmao. I only use drugstore stuff now. Whenever I go to a salon I lie and tell them I use some high-end product so that they don't try to sell me on anything and they always compliment my hair and are like "oh yeah, I can tell!" 😂
That is me with my hairdresser. I use Headers & Shoulders root detox line here in Brazil once a week and I told her this. Boooy! She was offended and blasted the thing. I told her I didn't know it was bad and was not going to use it anymore. I am using it normally.😂
As a curly haired person, we should be using more sulfate-containing cleansers. We tend to cleanse infrequently and re-apply stylers between washes. Most sulfate free shampoos don’t do a good enough job when wash day comes around and that’s why you have scalp issues and excess hair fall.
The ironic part about this is that that nasty sodium C14-16 olefin sulfonate is often substituted for SLS or sles and the ironic part is that the cleansing and foaming properties of this sulfonate is super high and not gentle, but it looks good on paper so they put it in.
Thing is, because of marketing, most of the shampoo we get ISN'T actually sulfate free. It's just a marketing scam. Almost anything that's a cleanser has surfactants in them, they're just at stronger or weaker concentrations. So, for cosmetic companies it's cheaper for them to sell us watered down formulas and have us use more, buy more, and spend more and more frequently. But it sucks for us. Brands know that now and I doubt they'll lose money offering us stronger surfactants for less money🤷♀️.
I'd like to hear someone talk about the hair of older women. Bone dry not the slightest trace of oil. My hair has also thinned and I can't afford to lose any. Until recently used drug store shampoo and conditioner and was happy about results. At a certain age the same shampoo made my hair a tangled nightmare. That's when I tried more expensive products. I'm using a high end product now because it works and I see virtually no hair in the shower and can run a wide tooth comb through my wet hair easily. It's not worth arguing about drug store vs high end. Ultimately one should use whatever works. PS I think the "clean beauty" thing is a marketing gimmick. The inside of a test tube is clean. Bring on the silicones.
"Clean beauty" is indeed a marketing scan! One essential oil on me gives me the WORST rashes! And I loooovvvveee preservatives 😉😁Who wants microbes growing in their skincare and makeup? Silly, silly people want the clean beauty nonsense😉Have a beautiful and blessed day💗
Best thing to do if you have bone dry hair is to put oil on it. I use castor oil mix with olive oil sometimes just coconut oil. It helps make the hair look very healthy. Also when I style it I put a hair cream and hair serum from garnier fructis. Oh yeah and it helps with hair density too at least it feels like it’s heavier.
@@DRVenard In Europe where our regulations are much better than in the US clean beauty actually has a label so it is not a scam. I would be more worried about standard beauty industry scams :)
I have tried high end, natural, & drugstore. Hairstylists seem to comment on my healthy hair when i’ve been using Pantene products.! Think I’m done with high end. I may use natural products like oil & acv for clarifying. Thanks Abby!!
My daughter has long, fine, easy tangled hair. I've tried a lot of conditioners on her, and I learned the hard way that it needs to contain silicones or I sit there and struggle. My favorite one to use on her is the Herbal Essence Rose Hip conditioner. It's amazing how much difference the addition of silicones makes combing it through.
My sisters hair is SO long, soft, and pretty. She uses tresseme and sleeps on a cotton pillow case. Yet here I am paying $60 for shampoo & conditioner, satin scarf on head for bed, satin pillowcase, claw clips, water filter on shower head, gentle detangle, going to hair salon for regular maintenance and my hair will not go past my nipples. 😢
This clips make your hair break. I used them 4 years and today I see the result😢 unfortunately only 4 years later. These "teeth" of this clips they pierce into the hair and they grind the hair between their teeth
Maybe you are cutting your hair too often. Hair only grows on average half an inch a month so you could be cutting off all that you grow. Also your sister is lucky her hair genetics is different
I’m so happy I saw this video!!! For most of my life I used a drugstore hair care but stopped 6 years ago and started following the non-sulfate/non-silicone route. My hair is SO dull. Yesterday I was digging through old photographs and I saw how shiny my beautiful my hair used to be. I’m going back!!!!!
I did the same only for 7 years. My hair went fromm shine, 3a/3b, oily, normal porosity and thick/medium to opaque, 2b/2c/3a, dry, porous and thinning with so much hair fall that my doctor gave me an androgenetic alopecia diagnosis. While I don't think people should be demonizing sulfates, I will forever be greatful for that trend because it made me realize that I am mildly allergic. My skin had never been healthier than it has been after cutting them out of all my products. No more itchy skin and scalp! I had lived my whole life with itchy skin up until that point. Most people can use sulfates just fine, but I definitely I can't.
1000% I’m going back to drug store brand. I used to relax & bleach my hair myself in college and my hair neverrrr fell out. Ever since switching to high end products like olaplex & others my hair is the thinnest I’ve ever seen, there are all these broken off pieces 🤦🏽♀️ I’m donating every single one of my high end products!!!
Don't donate them immediately, it may be that your hair has also changed because of aging. Mine definitely did, especially with getting more gray hair my hair got a more unruly and having to colour it didn't help at all.
100% agree! I’ve had thick healthy hair my entire life and have always used drugstore. Mostly panteen products. A little over a year ago I decided to try out some high end products and kept using them cause I thought eventually they’d do something amazing for my hair. Now my hair is so thin, broke and dead. I brush my hair and the entire sink is full of little broke off pieces.
@Daisy O. Oh my goodness YESSSSSSS! I have had so many changes in my hair just in the past year or so, and I had no idea what was going on!!!! Thank ypu for saying this, because for the longest time I was asking people what they thought was going on, and NO ONE said anything about my hair changing due to aging! You are SOOOO RIGHT!
Yep - I was using olaplex and some protein spray, all high end shampoos and hairdresser doing my colour. I’ve ditched the extras and just use a simple shampoo and conditioner - more expensive but drugstore AND I’m dying my hair myself - my hair is the healthiest it’s been for YEARS
olaplex is already high in protein and you should only use the products in TINY amounts. most high end products are like this and people don't understand how to use them properly. overuse leads to issues
@@satan-pm5er yeah I think you’re right. I was given it by my hairdresser who knew I was using Olaplex but clearly didn’t think it through. It was only after I got into trouble with it that she told me
I am a firm user and supporter of Tresemme. I used Tresemme shampoo all last year and even the conditioner and my hair almost reaches my tailbone. My hair is healthy and strong and all I use is affordable hair care products and almost everything is drugstore from Walmart. Use what works. ❤ I have only ever been tempted to use salon and higher end cause of social media. This is why I started my own TH-cam channel. I show that heat and silicones are not the enemy. 😊
I recently switched to salon hair products and it has significantly improved my hair. However, the key is the product has to be right for your hair type, it being from the salon, is not going to mean it’s a great product for you.
Absolutely. IMO the high end vs drugstore debate really comes down to a formulation/ingredient debate vs your hair type. With ingredients that can be found at all price points
I think most people in the makeup space have caught up with the idea that great (and not so great) products can be found at any price point, and your personal needs and preferences also weigh in. We just need to have the haircare space catch up! You can have a phenomenal drugstore shampoo and conditioner alongside a high end hair oil in the same routine - it’s all about what works best for you!
Agree 100%. It’s really all about your hair needs. I have tried every product you can think of. High-end, low and medium end. For me, my hair responds to a mixture of high end and medium end hair products, but it’s taking years for me to figure it out. For me it’s a bunch of different companies products that work best for me not just one specific company and like I said it’s taking me years and thousands of dollars of buying different hair products to finally figure out what is working best for my hair right now.
I’m 60 years old and have been washing and blow drying my hair every day. I have straight hair with some slight gray. I have never dyed my hair and when I use the blow dryer I use cold air and don’t pull on it. Every time I go to a different place to get my haircut they say. Well I normally tell people don’t wash it everyday but in your case it’s healthy so I can’t say that. Just treat your hair good. No pulling when wet. No hot heat and your hair will be healthy in my opinion. And I use Pantene or Costco Kirkland brand. I’m probably your oldest subscriber and I enjoy your video.
Finally, the truth is coming out! 🙌 Please bring back the sulfates, silicone, and parabens while we're at it! I have had so much trouble finding a shampoo that works for me since those things started being taken out like 10-15 years ago. First, the newer (and less effective) preservatives irritate my skin. Then, the cleansing agents aren't enough for my scalp. Then the smoothing agents for my super poofy, frizzy hair (living in the south too!) went away. I've not been having a good time in the hair care department for quite a while now 🙃 I'm glad brands are coming back around.
Not only are parabens safe (in the amounts used in products), they are such effective preservatives that less is necessary. I'd rather have 0.25% parabens than 2% of a "green" preservative ... and both are better than "preservative free" but full of microbes.
@Liz Cademy parabens were actually the Non Allergen of The Year in 2019 to draw attention to the fact that they cause so few issues even though everyone was freaking out about them. Guess what has won Allergy of The Year? A very common alternative MIT, which definitely irritates my skin.
As a man with mix hair (greasy scalp + dry hair) I struggled a lot with "uncleanliness". I tried citric shampoos for greasy hair from Elvive and Pantene (which were the best from the lot), and they left me with soft hair but still greasy scalp. Meanwhile I kept laughing at Head & Shoulders commercials, because they kept repeating that the best shampoo for great hair is a dandruff shampoo. The whole charade came to an end when I had to shower at my brother¡s place, and he only had H&S. I said "It wouldn't hurt using it once" and washed my hair with the dandruff shampoo. Suddenly my hair was clean and soft at the same time, and I was converted. From then on I only use H&S (other brands don't do the trick) and not all variants from the same brand are the same (for smartasses who say the only difference in shampoo is fragrance)
I’m so glad I found you awhile back. I have been “training” my hair for less frequent washing for over 2 years now, even after “training” I still need dry shampoo within 18-24 hours. I’m over it and I am glad I have your content so that I don’t feel guilty for daily/every other day washing! Tresemme 24 hour volume has worked for me for over 8 years now, tried and true for sure lol❤
i used drugstore, korean-japanese & luxury hair products. honestly i cant tell the difference. the only thing that made my hair healthier is oiling my hair overnight for over 9 years. so if a product works for you, just keep using it yall
As a hairdresser myself for over 30 years I can say that there are some drugstore products that I think are great, and I personally use. There are so many factors with hair care.. hair type, texture, condition. If someone has very strong healthy hair they can pretty much use whatever they want on their hair, if your hair is extremely damaged or fragile you're going to have to use products that are probably a better caliber for the hair to look good. It's kinda like skin care if you're young and have smooth wrinkle free skin of course you're not gonna have to use a lot of products for aging dry skin. I will say that high end products have more of the actual beneficial ingredient in them. In order to get the cost lower on drugstore products they put less of the more expensive ingredients and add more cheaper fillers like sillicone and water. If you use suave or white rain is your hair gonna fall out no, but if you're hair is damaged or moisture deprived it's not gonna repair damage either. As hairdressers we use this comparison, if you're using strong cleansing agents on articles of clothing you will notice the fiber to start to break down very quickly as opposed to using let's say woollight..the same principle goes for your hair. The stronger cleansers you're using on your hair the more damage you will notice to the cuticle layer and the actual integrity of the hair strand, but again all this is dependent on the actual condition and strength of your own hair. It's not a one size fit all. As far as hair color the best that you can do is use cool water and hair care for color treated hair and only shampoo a few times a week. Very hot water opens the cuticle layer up of our hair allowing dye molecule to come out but strong detergents/shampoos on the hair will also pull dye molecule out. It's the same when you're putting hot water on your skin or steaming your skin that causes the pores to open but a cold marble roller will cause the skin to tighten up and pores to close.
My hair looooves sulfates. Started using Pantene shampoo again a few weeks ago. My hair is softer, less oily, and just overall looks so much healthier and I wash every other day and I don’t find it drying in the slightest
that’s exactly what happened to me. pantene’s clean shampoo is the only thing that cleaned the gunk out of my hair from using the “sulfate-free”, high end crap.
Started my hair care journey with you about 9 months ago and I swear my hair has NEVER been in better condition. I recently had it coloured and my stylist agreed it didn’t need a trim it was in such great condition. I owe it all to you Abbey! Appreciating you so much ❤xx

Silicones weigh down my hair so much! My curly hair definitely needs silicone free products. But you’re right that different things work for different people!
I’ve been following your suggestions religiously lately and got myself a drugstore hair care routine (mostly consists of Loreal and Vichy products) and I’m trying to follow your steps with bond repair, mask, conditioner etc. (Only I wash every other day because I have not only oily but also monstrously sweaty scalp AND telogen effluvium so I can’t afford to NOT have this scalp not cleansed for a week, hair loss gets worse the longer you don’t wash) but I already started seeing results, even though I recently had my hair color bleached from black box-dyed, my hair never been this healthy looking and soft ❤ thank you so much for educating us all 🥹
2 years ago I tried to do the whole silicone/sulphate free thing, I would read labels and even talk myself out of buying products I really wanted just bc they had sulphates or silicones, and what was the result of all of that? Breakage city 😂 my hair felt the worse it has felt in years, even when I was using higher end products.. so yeah then I switched back to using professional and drugstore products that do contain those ingredients and it was a night and day difference. Now I actually look for products that DO contain silicones in the ingredient list
I always come back to Herbal Essences. Makes my hair look perfect for pennies compared to “high end” products. Something about their formulas just really work for my hair. I have thick, fluffy, wavy hair and use their hemp & aloe line.
I’ve been slowly switching my hair products from drug store to professional and I can honestly say I do notice a difference for the positive. Like by a long shot. In addition to listening to you I also follow Chris Wenzel’s recommendations for my hair type. It’s really making a huge difference in the health of my hair. I also notice I can use about 70% less shampoo to get my hair clean. I only need about a nickel sized dollop for hair half way down my back for shampoo and conditioner.
Yeah, Chris has been "getting" a lot of us. I learned a lot and was reluctant to buy the professional stuff, but I waited till Ulta had their sale and used some points so I got it pretty reasonable. And, like you said, you end up using less shampoo so it's going to last me a very long time. I still am spending more than I had been, but that's because I have a completely different hair routine now using products I wasn't using but SHOULD have been and have much healthier hair. Thanks to him AND Abbey!

I came across Chris Wenzel and thought this is it! LOL. I can't tell if it's doing anything at all. :(((( I might return the shampoo/cond. but not sure what to do!! I would love anyone's experience on what he recommends and if they have seen better results with the "routine".
I personally had serious scalp issues for years due to cutting out sulphates as everyone around me was demonising them. It was the worst decision I ever made as my scalp was disgusting 🤢 !! I returned to sulfates on a whim and what do you know, no scalp issues now. So frustrating to have spent so many $$$ on ‘sulphate free’ to have disgusting build up and not putting two and two together.
Great video ! People also have to remember to use the correct type of shampoo for their hair type. Using the wrong type wether it may be high end or drugstore can leave your hair feeling horrible. Having the right shampoo high end of drugstore can leave your beautiful.
I will always respect and admire a person who is ready to learn and adjust, and honestly acknowledge that they’ve changed their viewpoint! I found your channel during the pandemic, looking for a review on a cerave product, and ever since I’ve been taking better care of my skin & hair. And I get so many compliments on how healthy my hair is. But I have been wary of drugstore brands so Im excited to give them more of a chance.
Been using drugstore shampoo and conditioner my whole life and have really long hair. HairTube stressed me out because I thought I was doing something wrong my whole life. I was obsessed with finding all these natural shampoos and ayravidic ingredients and obscure oils. Meanwhile, Aussie kept my hair beautiful and strong so I was confused. After watching this, I’ve emptied my online basket. Stick to what I know and what works best for me (my regular shampoo and conditioner plus almond oil on the tips)
I absolutely love your truthful, upfront, and no-nonsense approach. You hit on a lot of critical points that I hope your audience hears. Don’t have hard-and-fixed rules, don’t blindly follow what others say/do, think for yourself and try things for yourself, and don’t place too much weight on labels. I remember some time ago, an influencer (maybe you, maybe someone else, doesn’t really matter) made a comment about how Pantene was “the worst,” and at the time I was like, “Oh is it? I’m using that and it seems ok…” And literally that was it. I didn’t run to the bathroom and throw away my Pantene. I just kept using it. And now I’m trying something different (because I was curious and found it on sale - it’s a DevaCurl conditioner and I hate it, LOL.) You’re just SO RIGHT about everything in this video. And I am not only ok that you evolve as a creator, I LOVE and WELCOME your evolution and it’s part of the reason I watch your content. You evolve, and that makes you interesting. Because evolution is interesting…
I stopped using the drug store stuff because everyone says that sulfates, silicons and fragrance cause hair loss. For someone trying to prevent hair loss, would these ingredients now be beneficial? A video on preventing hair loss and scalp health would be absolutely amazing!

@@natmya243 my hair is long and fine...pretty healthy. I hate Olaplex and bond building products. Too much protein never works well for me. I have used high end products for the past 5 years and they are ok but I'm rarely wowed.
Thank you for clarifying and explaining! That made a lot of sense to me now! I personally worry more about fragrance though, as I have a neurological disease that gets triggered by fragrances (with nerve pain, severe dizziness, nausea, headache etc). I wish there were more good products without fragrance… I will incorporate more silicones in my hair care routine 👍
Thirdly, the key is using a hair product that is meant for your hair thickness more than anything. If you have fine hair that gets greasy easily. Go with volumizing shampoo and conditioner. If you have thick corse hair, go with products that are right for your hair type.
My hair used to look horrible back in high school in college when I used drugstore. Took me some trial and error to find the right salon quality. When I did find the right one I was blown away. Other leavin products on the other hand. I just want to put it out there because neither one should really be demonized. Just use what’s right for you!
@@kmdiehl11 I usually go for a lot of Abbeys recommendations. I use pureology. My hair isn’t thin but it is easily weighed down, and I don’t find that it does. Redkin is also a great option. If you you can’t afford full price then tjmax usually has redkin at a discount. L’Oréal like Abbey said is also a great drugstore brand.
Same!! The only brands that manage my crazy curly frizzy hair are Nexxus and Kerastase. I’ve tried tons of cheaper drugstore and high end like Purology and none of those work. I haven’t yet tried Olaplex but I’m not sure I want to because of the price and I’m pretty sure it will not work on me. I’ve even tried no-poo and even though it did help, my hair gets oily super fast.
@@germbuster324 Guess what? L'Oréal OWNS Redkin. Just like Estee Lauder owns multiple companies. This means they all have access to the same formulas which means the drugstore versions are often extremely similar and equally as effective for a fraction of the price. A lot of times what you pay for is the name. When in doubt, compare the ingredients.
Hey Abbey, so I believe that similar to our skin, when we have a scar dermatologists recommended coating it with silicone ointments to protect it and mimic the natural "moidt" environment of the skin. I have wavy hair and even my hair enjoys silicone-based products. It feels so mich nicer and it's not even weighted down. P. S. I know skin and hair are different "eco-systems".
Nope, ever since I switched to more expensive hair care products, my hair is much thicker, I have less fallout and my scalp is not itchy. BUT I don’t care about Sulfates, Silicones etc. I’ll sure use them! No “clean beauty” in my shower😂
Same thing here, Covid caused me to lose tons of hair . Started taking collagen peptides supplements, changed to better hair are and my hair has made a complete turn around!
@@patmartin1968 Which collagen peptides, hair products? My hair was so thick, got Covid, then poof. I didn't lose a ton of hair, but the thickness instantly disappeared. It is paper thin, with a teeny tiny rats tail in the back. I used to be able to grab and have a thick pony tail. :(( Has anyone noticed anything for getting the thickness back?
@@sdevarenne28 i had horrible hair loss from covid back in october. I used some drug store hair thickening spray specifically for hair loss every time after i wash my hair (which is like 2-3 times a week). My hair is slowly but surely getting back to its old self again! Make sure to take vitamins, eat healthy (i eat a plant based protein heavy diet), and keep yourself dehydrated and you should be fine!
I trust Kerastase--Sulfates, Silicones Parabens whatever. I believe Kerastase formulates products for the health of my hair. I use Kerastase from pre-shampoo all the way through to styling products. I wash everday, and my stylist says I don't have a lot of damage.
Yes! I was about to say, my hair has gotten so much healthier using Kerastase because they aren’t afraid to use sulfates, silicones and parabens. I think it’s why some people say their hair got better switching to drugstore because sulfates and silicones are needed for most hair types.
@@mje007 it’s not a rip off….there is SIGNIFICANTLY higher concentration levels of the beneficial ingredients within the professional lines in comparison to drugstore. Neither is “bad”, but there is obviously a difference in quality and performance.
I use a mix right now. I have a high end sulfate free, low silicone (there is one far down in the ingredients list) shampoo and a high end clarifying shampoo, but I found the high end conditioner with no silicones wasn't enough for my hair. I ended up switching back to my Suave professionals moroccan infusion shine conditioner that has dimethicone as the third ingredient and my hair looks much better. Even though I have fine hair, I think the dry cold air outside and dry heated air inside, here in the north, means I need something more moisturizing and with a nice silicone on my mids and ends to keep things looking shiny and nice. That's even with using a leave in and oil on my ends! Summer time might change things, but we'll see.
My hair has been falling out since around the time I started using ever pure bond strengthening and recently started breaking off. I haven't used color or bleach on it in over a year and never had that issue before. I'm about to be 30 and plan on getting bloodwork done because of it! I think it's important to think about all health reasons as to why you could be having hair issues as well! I'm glad I saw this video though, because I hadn't even thought about what I was using on my hair as a factor! Thank you abbey
could it be that you're getting too much protein from your hair products and not having enough moisture to balance it out? you know your body best so i'm sure this is something you've already considered but that can be a reason for other people's hair loss if they're using that shampoo
I LOVE a waxy coating on my hair LOL I’ve been saying it for decades. I even still use Sebastian Cellophanes semipermanent color because it’s like a protective sealant that instantly improves the feel and finish. It even helps it feel slightly thicker. I have my nail license (since 1993) so I’ve got full access to everything Cosmoprof has to offer, and I mostly just use it for color, and a couple of Kenra products. But I’m a Pantene girl for shampoo and conditioner. In fact I think I’m going to ditch the Kenra leave in and go back to cheap Pantene combing crème. I’m so glad I watched this video. 😁
@@dawnboyce3628 Pantene Smooth & Sleek and I have fine hair, uneven wave pattern that easily frizzes, and likely over 50% grey. I color the new growth only with Matrix SoColor and 10 volume, then refresh all over color with the Sebastian Cellophanes and bake under the dryer, because I have a working antique Rilling Conditionaire at home. The Pantene combing cream left my hair softer and silkier than the Kenra Daily Provision. So for blowout looks I'll use Pantene and for scrunched textured waves I'll use the Kenra, as it does help my hair feel thicker. It's just not silky. Hope that answers your questions .
Yes I completely agree I feel like silicone's create a protective barrier. I remember back in the day. I used pantene and my hairdresser told me that I shouldn't because it just makes your hair look healthier. . But it's not actually making your hair healthier, that it coats each strand with wax basically. But I loved the smell of it so much
Honestly I like to use a mix of professional and drugstore. I noticed my hair got a lot better when I switched to professional, but my wallet didn’t get a lot better. Olaplex has made me so much more comfortable and confident in my curls. But sometimes I’m tired and lazy and I just want a quick wash without having to make sure I’m waiting the right amount of time and using products in the correct order. I have very curly dry hair so I don’t brush it everyday and I try to push my wash days as long as I can. So I need a super good shampoo that’s going to get all the grim off of my hair and bring back some volume. I also need a conditioner that can provide enough slip so that I’m able to effectively brush out all the tangles without ripping out my hair. I also have sensitive skin especially on my scalp so sometimes if I use a shampoo with fragrance or a super strong scent (green tea is horrible for me) I can irritate my skin like crazy, which causes me to it itch my scalp which puts a lot more oil into my head. Right now I like the shea moisture oatmeal line as I find it’s super soft on my head, the ouai clarifying shampoo and a random mix of Olaplex (I basically just bought the Christmas box sets and they are still going strong for me).
My hair girl uses tresemme on her hair and the rest of her household. She also said she quit using Olaplex in her salon because it was leaving her clients hair dry & it worsened with use.
Bottom line hair care is just like skin care. It is all about your ph your needs your hair type ect. You just have to try and see what you react well to. Doesn't matter if it's $10 or $100. It's all about what works best for you.
I am someone who loved the "clean" feeling of shampoo, but most shampoos thinned out my hair and conditioners were too heavy. I fell into the "no-poo" trend because of a friend and while it was an utter fail for her (for the reasons you mentioned), it was an absolute win for me. I can't go for very long without a wash, but switching to castile soap, hydrating co-washes, plenty of aloe vera gel, and regular coconut milk deep conditionings has made my scalp so much happier and my hair so much healthier. I don't know if it's actually gotten "thicker", but I can definitely tell a difference when I part my hair. Hair care really just is an individual experience and what works for some people, won't work for others. Even my sister and I have very different needs and routines.
I love being no poo! I use an Ayurvedic hair rinse powder once a week which also exfoliates the scalp (I the primary ingredient in it is soap nuts and some other fruits but no poo). I brush the oils through my hair first then use the powder then brush again. I recently started scrunching my hair after with home made flax gel when I want more curl definition/control. I loveee how my hair looks now. If I ever need extra clarifying or PH balancing I use the ACV rinse. My scalp finally doesn’t flake anymore and my hairs growing crazy fast!
Hi Abbey I fell into the "curly girl method" rabbit hole a few years ago. It was about co washing, avoiding sulphates and silicones etc. Now I have very dry/course hair and a dry/eczema prone scalp, so co washing and gentle shampoos do work for me in the main - however I use a clarifying shampoo every couple of weeks to get a deep clean. My scalp doesn't produce oil so I don't need deep cleansing shampoos every wash, but it still needs a deep clean every few weeks to remove any buildup of styling products. I do use some silicone in my styling products to protect my hair and help with preventing frizz (I long since moved away from the "rules" of the CGM). It's very much about finding what works for each of us - our scalp, our hair type and our style. I don't care about affordable or high end brands as such, but I do want haircare that isn't too fragranced due to my eczema. Best wishes.
THIS. IS. SO. TRUE!!!!!!! My hair was so beautiful when I was younger and I was using drug store. I started using high end and my hair just stopped looking beautiful and feeling healthy. The hair dressers were telling me, it will just take time but it hasn’t. I’m back to drug store and my hair has never felt better. I am pregnant so that does help but I also have had a lot of health problems, we moved across the country and my hair was a wreck. No more! Lol. Thank you for making this video 🥰♥️
I've only recently begun to really pay attention to caring more for my hair, and this video was phenomenal for me. In fact, I've forwarded it on to my son and my neighbor, both of whom are also wanting to improve the condition of their hair. Thank you! I respect the hell out of you for continuing to learn, grow and increase your knowledge base.
According to a chemist here in Japan, shower water here is rougher than in the US and thus they don’t advocate for sulfates in shampoos because the water alone strips away the silicones. So shampoos here don’t contain sulphates. Thought that was interesting…
I started CG a few months ago and it was great... until it wasn't. My dandruff came back after I hadn't seen it for 4 years!! And my scalp was itching, even the day after wash day. I wash my hair once a week and was already in that habit before starting CG... I truly don't have time to wash it more often. I went back to using head & shoulders shampoo every other wash day, and added a salicylic acid astringent to my scalp as a rinse less shampoo halfway through the week. The head and shoulders is serving as a pretty good clarifying shampoo, but I still have Garnier Hair Reset for when I feel my hair "needs" more clarifying. I'm SO glad I didn't throw out all my old hair products. I still use the sulfate/silicone free products, but I'm still using my old stuff too. They all have their place.
Thanks for this video! I particularly appreciate you calling out that as you learn more, your advice can and will change. This is a natural part of life (that more information deepens our understanding of things and changes our perspectives, beliefs, etc) yet it is challenged so often - in all kinds of ways. It happens in politics all the time, for example. There is an Aristotle quote to the effect that the more you learn, the more you realize you don’t know. Anyway, thanks for sharing the information you have learned and calling out all the nuance that is required to make it applicable for your individual followers.
My hair has never been worse than when I switched to “natural” shampoo and conditioners. It was fine at first but there was so much protein I guess to make up for lack or sulfates and silicones in the products that it would weigh my hair down, make my hair super oily, and low and behold when I’d use a clarifying shampoo CHUNKS of hair falls out. (: switching back to silicone and sulfates
I love silicones and wash my hair very frequently. Using pro products and trying to go longer in between washes did nothing but give me a bad scalp, many bad hair days where I looked like crap, and confidence issues.
Thank you - I wash my hair every single day and I’m 56 years old - I feel nasty and not myself if I skip a day - I’ve tried but feel it’s a trend - I mean how do people work out, sweat and not wash their hair? Eewwww
@@lisarhoades3559, yes! Even if I take a shower so I KNOW I'm clean, if I haven't washed my hair my body feels gross to me (living in very humid environment doesn't help). It may not be the healthiest my hair COULD be, but I have to balance that with how my body feels, too.
I definitely didn't know a lot of this. You answered a question about why I was suggested to use sulfate and silicone free products for my very fine thin hair. I definitely agree with testing what works is the best option. I've had many of "mid range professional brands" I hate because they make my hair really oily and flat versus $10 Amazon finds. I do like the way you put the information out there.
Great video! After going “clean” for the last three years, I have gone back to silicones and sulfates due to tangly, dry (in fact looked heat damaged) and increased hair shedding! Not to mention I also stopped using the Dyson. Your video resonated with me as I have been feeling the same way. High perosity hair needs the silicones.
Could you consider doing a video on the differences between treating “natural” hair vs dyed/colored/bleached hair? I feel like over time ive seen very different advice from people based on which category they fall into personally.
I need to stop doing this but it’s something I need to work on. I always assume more money = superior products. Especially with haircare! Even when I’m in the shower and I have drugstore and high end on my shelf… I still gravitate towards high end. At the end of the day they both do similar things for my hair. Thank you for sharing this!
Same!! I even do this with skincare. It took me so long to switch over to products cera ve or la roche posay but I think those are two great examples of how cheaper can be better!
For years starting from when i was a teenager, i was shamed by hairdressers because i used pantene, and was told all sorts of horror stories about pantene, which seemed a bit of a stretch to me back then but i still walked out of the hair dressers feeling a bit like shyte. Once i was old enough to buy my own stuff, i started trying out all these high end brands, but couldn't help but notice that the ingredients were pretty similar, if not exactly the same as pantene and other "bad" brands. I could never get my hair to grow past a pixie, if i attempted to grow it any longer it would split and break. I messed with my hair the same as a teenager, so why wasn't my hair growing anymore?! No "high end" product ever really wowed me enough to keep spending so much. So i gave up. Went back to using cheaper products, now i wonder why i stopped when clearly cheaper worked better for me in the first place.
Point of order- the correct spelling is "shite". It's an old Northern English colloquial word and I'm a northerner so I get very protective about my local dialect words.
As a blq woman who only used Pantene & L’Oreal I can relate. My mother was a stylist who insisted I used the high end stuff she bought but my hair thrived on the drugstore stuff and never did well with the expensive stuff.
I also use the Kristin Ess...love it! Also, we're only as "educated" as we can be at any given moment in time. There's still a ton of misinformation even in scientific studies texts, so no one can ever be 100% correct. There's this thing called "context" that we have to keep in mind, we're always learning. Keep doing your best, that's all anyone can ask!
You are definitely the reason I started re-evaluating the haircare rules I’d learned and implemented for myself and, as with so many other parts of my life, I just started being mindful and listening to my own body’s reaction-and I’ve discovered how much my scalp and hair LOVE clarifying shampoos and deeper cleaning shampoos and hate heavy oils. As someone with curly hair, it’s everything opposite of what I’d been taught but my scalp and hair haven’t been so happy in a long time. And that includes using drugstore products. :)
changing my comment on here, because I have learned so much since I have found your channel. I have been using "organic, gentle" shampoos for more than a decade, and there was a time when they seemed to work for me, but I missed having amazing smelling products, and having a squeaky clean scalp. So I have now transitioned to using regular products and it feels so good to be able to go to a regular drugstore and buy the regular products, everything smells so amazing and it makes me happy. I have wavy hair and I also use silicones now and I can confirm my waves do like it, this whole wavy/curly girl method is a myth at this point. Thank you so much for educating us!
Sulfate and silicone is the best thing I could use on my hair. 10 years of natural bs, my hair had stopped growing. Now that my scalp is clean, it’s growing fast! And silicon is protecting my hair. Amodimeticone specifically is amazing
Over the years, and from watching thousands of hours of content on hair care, I’ve figured out that I LOVE shampoo with sulfates and hair products with silicones. I have coarse, curly hair, and I remember the whole curly girl craze, and I feel like, while it was well intentioned, some of that haircare advice was really bad for my hair type. I use Paul Mitchel shampoo because it has a low ph and it’s cruelty free. I guess that’s more mid-range than high end but it works well for me to thoroughly cleanse my hair and remove oil and product buildup. I also discovered that I have to wait 5-7 days between shampoos for smooth and healthier looking hair. I like that your channel discusses the science of hair care, but I honestly don’t pay too much attention to the products that you recommend on your channel because you don’t have my hair type. But I wanted to say thanks for addressing this topic and dipping into the science of silicone and sulfate products. You’ve helped me understand exactly why the curly girl method never worked for me.
I used Pureology to get my hair back to a healthy state. I was gritting my teeth at $60 a bottle but when it went to $80 , I couldn’t justify it. I find better results now with Luseta and it’s pH balanced. Use what works for your hair, sulfates or no sulfates 😊
Influencers are to be blamed for lots of misinformation about sulfates, etc. I've always loved Pantene and other drug stores' shampoo/conditioner. And wash your hair.. Once every 7 to 15 days is ridiculous.
I have curly hair that I straighten with a flat iron. In the winter I can go a week without washing. In the summer it's at least twice a week. I'm not going to lie by day 5 my hair doesn't look great but it's not awful. I'm lucky that half my work day is outside doing reports on property inspection so it's not like I'm in a dressy workplace.
I can't deal with Pantene ...also my hair stopped breaking once I stopped washing it that often ...and the best shampoo I used is without all the trash inside.
Awesome, awesome video, Abbey! I love how you so eloquently described how you (and all of us, really) evolve over time and our opinions change as we learn new things. I appreciate all the time, effort, and research you put into your videos so we can all learn from you. Thank you 💞🙏
I am the type of person who used Trésseme, and at first my hair looked great but over time it got worse and worse. Like you said, my hair is extremely oily! Although my hairdresser always tried to sell me professional shampoo I never bought it because of the insane price. I switched to a silicone free drug store shampoo (Syoss Pure Fresh). I just read the label and it does have Sodium Laureth Sulfate which is probably the reason why my scalp is getting properly cleaned. This video is just making me glad I didn't sucumb to the constant pressure of professional shampoos and found something that works for me.
So I have used all the high end brands out there. My hair just kept on feeling worse and worse. All these little hairs that where becoming more and more noticeable and my hair looked dry. In the past I have used L’Oréal Elvive color protect (the red bottles). A couple weeks ago i repurchased it as an research project in combination with there oil for colored hair. I washed my hair, conditioning the ends and before blow drying used 3 pumps of the oil. After blowdrying I added another pump of oil. I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT. My hair hasn’t felt this good in so long. I thought my hair wouldn’t be able to last a week without needing to be washed. Guess what…. It did. And after washing my hair with this regimen for over a month and a half, I will never go back. You should all try my regimen. ❤❤ It has sulfates and silicones and my hair is so HAPPY!
I prefer the feel of many high end haircare products, my hair is thick and I love a heavy product. I mostly use drugstore though as it’s just crazy to rinse so much money down the drain. I mix natural oils right into the product instead. One downside to drugstore is that the product is often very yellow or reddish colored - WHY! It stains my blonde hair and makes it brassy quickly.
My hair never looked worse than when I went all natural haircare. I have a sensitive scalp that loves a wash with a full fat sulphate shampoo every 3-4 washes and that can not live without silicones, because no other ingridient is so moisturizing yet light.
Thank you for pointing out that every person's hair is different! What works for me may not work for you. I have tried a million products, high end, drugstore, etc. I keep going back to my trusty L'oreal Elvive Total Repair. My hair loves protein and this shampoo seems to make it happy. I have wavy hair and I have tried nearly every "curly girl" approved shampoo/conditioner and most leave my hair dry and frizzy. Every now and then I use either a clarifying shampoo or a purple shampoo and a really deep conditioner to make sure there is no build up and keep my blonde color looking good.
I bought Redken shampoo on the recommendation of a hair stylist, and wow, worst $30 I’ve ever spent. It dried my hair out so badly (and yes, I was using it right). I went back to L’Oréal and my hair is thriving. I guess I’ll put my money into other things and stick with my $8 L’Oréal haha
Kerastase and Redken are both L'Oreal products. There are so many near-dupes for L'Oreal's salon-brand hair products that trickle down to the drugstore eventually because failing to share R&D under the umbrella wouldn't be cost-effective.
@@JaxBachtle burritos and burgers are different products. Shampoo is shampoo. The label on any given shampoo bottle reads something like this: water, surfactant, lathering agent, acidifier, thickening agent (for pourability), oils or fatty alcohols, preservatives, maybe silicone, fragrance, and then all the marketing buzz ingredients that if they were actually material to the product's performance would not be lower on the ingredient list than the fragrance.
Hair story time… in my early 20’s, I did not care for hair care. Bought whatever was on sale at the supermarket, once went 3 years without a trim. My hair is naturally thick so it looked ok, damaged but it had lots of volume and bounce. At about 25 I decided to bleach my hair. Had the worst breakage, hair was very damaged but I loved the blonde so continued. Kept using cheap hair care until the stylist started saying they were uncomfortable bleaching it more cause it was so damaged. I had to get a big chop and started realizing I should look after my hair if I wanted it long and blonde. I started investing in better products. Tried Olaplex, but it wasn’t the immediate fix I saw advertised so I remained a skeptic. Tried a lot of other things and begun implementing Olaplex regularly. Nowadays, I use Olaplex shampoo and conditioner, K18 and Olaplex 3 about weekly, and Kerastase mask pretty regularly. A bit of Morrocan oil and Kerastase serums. I have managed the impossible, long bleached healthy hair. I think the price tag puts a lot of people off professional products, also they are not a quick fix which is sometimes advertised. I have long healthy hair now but it’s been about 2 years of using good products.
It’s really popular in the curly hair community to say avoid silicones .. my hair never looks good when I avoid them though.. it’s very confusing because I want my curl pattern to improve but hate dull dry hair
I so appreciate learning along with you on haircare! You’ve helped me understand the importance of reading labels and knowing what these ingredients are and what they do. Thanks, Abbey 😊
hi, I think there are also good drugstore products, nothing to say, but if you want to see results quickly and good formulas, I definitely choose high end products, of course everyone knows their budget
There’s so much that goes into your hair health. Like your water source. My hair was so thick and long when I lived somewhere else vs now I have “hard water”. So i would recommend a filter for your shower head. Also on drugstore hair products. My hair has never done good with them. The shampoos never work for me. I use Ouai detox shampoo and I have to have it because my hair gets so oily and I only wash it once a week(typically). I recommend Joice reconstructing conditioner or something with hemp oil in it. Also on the topic of silicones. I have an issue with frizz and I asked my hairdresser what should I use and she said “anything with silicone in it”.
Love all these points
17 In 1 😂👍
Toothpaste too 😂
Wowww amazing
Lol... 17 in 1! So true for men's products. Love this ❤️
I had a similar thing actually, using a really basic cheap drugstore shampoo and conditioner set at my parents house and my hair was sooo soft after.
I can never understand the argument that sulfates are bad bc they “strip your natural oils”. Yeah, I sure hope it does! Then I’ll just add it back to my ends with my conditioner/hair oils and leave my scalp squeaky clean!!
Right! My natural oils are my biggest problem! LOL!
@@JaxBachtle LMAO SAME my hairs greasy enough, the oils will be back in a day anyway🙃
Hahaha THIS! yes!
Love this! And totally- still love all my high end favorites but that doesn't mean there aren't great affordable options too!
What are some of your favorites?
@@palm1930 I like joico , nexxus, function of beauty & sometimes loreal 🙂
I’m black and I have curly hair. I realized that silicones just work waaaaaay better for my hair because it adds protection. I sent silicone and sulfates free for 8+ years and my ends kept splitting. I started using sulfates and silicones again besides when I straighten my hair & my hair couldn’t be better
I haven't used shampoo for 2 months. Now I am washing my hair 4 or 3 times a week, 2 times with oil and water only washing and hair mask once a week . My hair is more healthy than ever plus I have wavy hair ( it is just my opinion )
Hair mask is homemade
I did the same only for 7 years. My hair went fromm shine, 3a/3b, oily, normal porosity and thick/medium to opaque, 2b/2c/3a, dry, porous and thinning with so much hair fall that my doctor gave me an androgenetic alopecia diagnosis.

As a woman with fine, wavy hair, I 100% agree with this comment!
That’s why many curly gals (and guys) use curly hair scalp treatments and clarifying shampoos.
Fine, wavy/curly hair here and sulfate free tends to make my hair feel dry and frizzy
Your video on silicones is what gave me the push to use them again and my hair is so much softer, tangle free and helps my curls form!
Omg yes this is amazing
Silly, silly people want the clean beauty nonsense😉Have a beautiful and blessed day💗
What did you end up using?
Yes, could you please tell us what you're using that works so well for you?❤
Best thing to do if you have bone dry hair is to put oil on it. I use castor oil mix with olive oil sometimes just coconut oil. It helps make the hair look very healthy. Also when I style it I put a hair cream and hair serum from garnier fructis. Oh yeah and it helps with hair density too at least it feels like it’s heavier.

I’ve been looking for stuff with silicone in it, and I just googled to check and it says that it does not contain silicone in it 😭
My sisters hair is SO long, soft, and pretty. 😢

After some coincidences, I realized it was the no poo and went back to sulfate/silicones/drugstore. I spent a lot of money recovering my hair.

and how is it going so far? see a difference by now?
While I don't think people should be demonizing sulfates, I will forever be greatful for that trend because it made me realize that I am mildly allergic. My skin had never been healthier than it has been after cutting them out of all my products. No more itchy skin and scalp! I had lived my whole life with itchy skin up until that point. Most people can use sulfates just fine, but I definitely I can't.
The problem is people that advocate that because sulphate is bad for them, it automatically is bad for everyone...
this! I am all for silicones on my hair but, sulfates gave me pimples!
Aging.
@@streetfamily6909 oh my gosh! Thats AWFUL! I hope that something out there will help you!!
I went back to drugstore hair care at the beginning of the year because I wanted to simplify my life and have been loving the results.
Just wait until they start replacing talc in makeup, it’s going to be a mess…🫠
Love Sodium lauryl sulfate. Good luck finding it in Europe...
@@soude85 it's already started 😫 I don't want talc to go away either! The alternatives just don't work as well.
I love H&S. They had a hair mask here in Brazil that was discontinued. I am a widow of that mask to this day.
In my case anti-dandruff H&S cause more dandruff lol
Love overnight oils & couldn't agree more on that sentiment!

Which drugstore brand is your favourite? Lately I’ve been liking Paul Mitchel and Marc Anthony. Also TresEmme is decent
David Revils, what products are you using that you like?
Great except pores don’t open or close. They have no muscle or capability to do that
My hair looooves sulfates. Started using Pantene shampoo again a few weeks ago. My hair is softer, less oily, and just overall looks so much healthier and I wash every other day and I don’t find it drying in the slightest
which pantene is your fav? do you also use their conditioner?
that’s exactly what happened to me. pantene’s clean shampoo is the only thing that cleaned the gunk out of my hair from using the “sulfate-free”, high end crap.
The problem with social media is that there’s too many people in the world that can’t think for themselves… period!

Keep learning and passing it along, Abbey. Your truthfulness is so appreciated .
Nope, ever since I switched to more expensive hair care products, my hair is much thicker, I have less fallout and my scalp is not itchy.
BUT I don’t care about Sulfates, Silicones etc. I’ll sure use them! No “clean beauty” in my shower😂
What haircare products do you use? I have awful Covid hair and have been searching for something to get my thick hair back.
Aveda invati and take supplements like Zink or priorin
Kerastase is made by L'Oréal's in China. Big rip off.
I LOVE a waxy coating on my hair LOL
I’ve been saying it for decades. 😁
what type of hair do you have and which of the Pantene lines do you love?
I love the fact that you continue to learn and grow! Thank you for sharing ❤
Thanks!
Literally the video I’ve been dying for since this topic went viral! Thank you.
L'Oreal and Pantene torture bunnies. There are so many great cruelty free options available.
Pantene and L'oreal are the love of my hair.

This makes me so happy! I'm so so glad
changing my comment on here, because I have learned so much since I have found your channel.
Not everyone has bone straight hair
I have curly hair that I straighten with a flat iron. In the winter I can go a week without washing. In the summer it's at least twice a week.
I'm not going to lie by day 5 my hair doesn't look great but it's not awful. I'm lucky that half my work day is outside doing reports on property inspection so it's not like I'm in a dressy workplace.
@Zosia I think it's trial and error. I know people who swear by Pantene but for me it's trash. But there are a few drug store items that I do like.
I can't deal with Pantene ...also my hair stopped breaking once I stopped washing it that often ...and the best shampoo I used is without all the trash inside.
I use the L'oreal- Evive and love it!!! It leaves my hair so soft.
My hair is in such better shape since I started using high end products. I do love my Olaplex as well.
Awesome, awesome video, Abbey! I love how you so eloquently described how you (and all of us, really) evolve over time and our opinions change as we learn new things. I appreciate all the time, effort, and research you put into your videos so we can all learn from you. Thank you 💞🙏
Thank you so much!
It has sulfates and silicones and my hair is so HAPPY!
Have you ever tried a purple shampoo?
I felt the same about Kerastase. Horrible
Funny thing. L’Oreal owns Redken.
Which Redken shampoo did you use?
I really appreciate all of the research you do Abbey. Keep doing what you're doing! All the best.
hi, I think there are also good drugstore products, nothing to say, but if you want to see results quickly and good formulas, I definitely choose high end products, of course everyone knows their budget
