      Hi Abbey,
Can you do a video about keratin bond extensions?
I have been doing them for a year now because my hair didn’t want to grow after a certain length.
I know they are quite damaging so I’m looking for the best way to revive and repair my hair after I take them out....

A while ago I saw a hairdresser explain how to apply leave in serum in my hair and have always used this technique… you spread it not only all the the palms of your hands, but you also get it in between your fingers… then you use your fingers like a wide tooth comb to comb the leave in into your hair. This also helps evenly distribute products into your hair. I’m going to try sectioning, especially when shampooing, but I think it will be easier if I shampoo in the kitchen sink instead of standing up in the shower.

I wash my hair outside in the garden. PLENTY of room and the water goes into the garden.
I take a couple of gallons of filtered water in empty plastic bottles. All of my products, combs and micro towels are lined up and ready to use. It's relaxing and wonderful to be in nature.

My hair growth has always been extremely slow. It only grows about 0,5 cm (0,197 inches) a month. It’s also always been very thin and fragile. There have been many times in my youth where people asked me if I had cut my hair when in reality it either thinned out so much at the end that the ends were barely noticeable or just broke off noticeably 😢
As a result I was always very insecure about my hair and kept it short (like everyone in the family because we all have the same bad genetics).
When I discovered your channel I thought: Let’s give it one more real try. Everyone in my family told me that we just had bad genetics and it wouldn’t work. Our hair just doesn’t grow long.
I had a pixie cut back then with about 1 cm (0,39 inch) long hair.
About 2 years later my hair is a bit longer than chin length and healthy 🥺
I know it doesn’t look like a lot for most people but I‘m incredibly proud that I managed to grow it that long and I‘m really hoping that I might even grow shoulder length hair in the next few years thanks to your tipps (and K18 😂) 💪
I‘m incredibly grateful for your channel!

When your hair will not grow or is very thin, it could be vitamin deficiency. Did you know that Vitamin D, iodine, Vitamin B12, folat, Magnesium, calcium and iron is very important for hair growth?
You should ask your doctor to check you levels of these, for iron it is ferritin. Iodine can only be checked in urine.
Ferritin needs to be over 80 for the best hair. Its not enough to be good, because good is from 15 to 300, but for the hair it should be in the higher level.
Its not included in normal blood work, you need to add all these and pay for them extra

In addition, I stopped wearing any tight style that stresses my hair, and I became obsessively careful when brushing. Also, bleach is now used only on roots. I use color depositing glosses to simulate a little highlighting. I have almost no breakage and my hair looks pretty healthy. At this point, I have tried to eliminate the HIDEOUS habits involving heat, bleach, and hair stressing that have been my practice for a VERY long time.

Great routine tips. I'd offer a friendly note to anyone considering coconut oil in their routine : just keep it off of your skin, as it is comedogenic and does clog pores, leading to skin irritations and breakouts. But it tends to be good for most porous, dry, damaged hair. If you don't care for the scent, opt for refined coconut oil, which has most of the scent removed through processing.

What's the point or major difference between using special "hair oil" with all the other ingredients, and just straight oil, like coconut or olive oil etc? Don't they both do just as good a job? And what's the real major difference between using a leave in conditioner, that you made by diluting a little bit of your normal conditioner with water, and spraying that on your hair, versus the expensive leave in conditioners?

    • @buckyyyb

I saw someone doing a hack for a tight ponytail to allow the effect without the same risk of damage. Section of the front of your hair and then put the remaining bulk of your hair into a regular ponytail then take the front section and pull it into a ponytail around the first one and secure with a second tie around both. This means you can make it fairly tight but with the weight of your hair being supported by a regular ponytail then the weight isn't being put through the delicate hairline.

I always thought, this was knowledge that's already settled in anybody's heads, but I realized over the years, that it's not the case, so thank you for spreading it!
I am so glad to have a mother who started teaching me these as soon as possible and I always had long, shiny, healthy hair as a kid and teen until I really wanted to experiment with haircuts and color. That was a phase - one that lasted 21 years and is just about to end now because I wanna grow my hair out again. I am 36 and tired of the short, bleached hair. I already transitioned to a shade that's at least the same value (level of depth) than my own color so I don't have to touch it up that often and it wasn't a breeze to get there. My hair only is a level 6, but trust me, bleach damaged hair doesn't want to keep darker pigments in. But it's worth it, my hair is growing really nicely and also pretty fast. My hair is also on the finer side and probably not as dense as yours, but I have naturally wavy hair (which is something I figured out in my late 20's, didn't know it before) with a lot of visual volume, so I don't mind that.
I hope a lot of people watch (and already watched) this video and take your advice because it's really good. I have learned a few techniques to apply product to make it work better for my hair texture and it did change everything for me, really.

    Hi Abbey,
Could you please talk to the effects about hard water vs soft water?
I'm doing all the right things, bond treatments, little to no heat, silk pillow case, but by the time I'm up for my next regular hair cut, the hair in my drain is same same but different to the hair on my head.
I'm in the process of getting a shower head filter, but this might be help a bunch of other hard watered babes who are having the same challenges as me.
Thank you for your research and knowlege, you've taught me a lot!

I have hard water and got a water softener. They are pricy. If you cannot afford one, the shower heads that filter the hard water work great too. I also use a shampoo once per week that removes the minerals from the hard water. My hair was very damaged and I had breaking all around the crown of my head. They are slowly growing out.

I am 55 years old and have had hair loss that runs in my family so I use Monoxidil. My hair has grown back but it is so unruly. I had a bad haircut and am trying to grow it out. My hair is in a bad state right now and I just want to love it again! I know you said you only wash your hair once a week, but does that mean you don't get it wet in the shower the other times? I struggle with not washing my hair every day.

Did your hair texture change with menopause/permenopause? I'm getting much closer to that life change. I remember my mom's hair going from lightly wavey to kinky curly - but not all of it, just random strands. She loved using Friz Ease (which may just be a hair oil?.) I have thin fine hair with flyaway. For that, my niece recommended I use Biosilk's Silk Therapy Original. It's a hair oil, and just a drop or two rubbed in my top layer of dry hair tames those flyaway without making my hair greasy. As for Abby's washes, I know she used to wash 1 time per week, but I think she has changed that - or at least changed her recommendation for other people - farely recently. I think she now says do whatever works best for you. You may want to search for her most recent videos on that. Good luck. And, I'm glad the minoxidil is working for you 😊

She changed it to washing it twice a week. Im pretty sure she keeps it dry for other showers though because the way she talks about styling and using heat protectants that are for dry hair and talks about how water swells the hair and makes it more fragile….

I just started my hair growth journey. It's already relatively long (almost waist-length at my back), but I want it longer 😅. The most challenging part has been cutting out heat. I just came to terms with the fact that I need to stop using my curling wand last week. I have too many split ends and seem to just get more everytime I use it.
Also, wearing it up when working has been rough as well, but it's constantly knotting at the nape of my neck to where the collar of my shirt is. Finding protective styles that look okay on me has been a challenge. I know you have a video on protective styles for sleep, but one for hairstyles during the day and when out in public would be amazing!

I had an outbreak of scalp psoriasis right after a shit ton of my hair fell out after I went to my husband’s friend’s wife (who is a hairdresser!) and she did a color remover thing on my hair and sent me home in a hair mask. As I was washing my hair out, clumps and clumps of hair were coming out. I lost so much hair and then on top of that, BAM! Scalp psoriasis. In my experience, K18 leaves the hair extremely tangled. So I was really glad when Abbey made a video a while back explaining that she reached out to the brand, and they confirmed that it was okay to follow up with a conditioner or a mask after leaving K18 on for 4 minutes. My friends who were using K18 were skeptical, too, pretty much saying that this was washing almost 100 CAD down the drain 😬Hopefully, this is not the case.
Re: rinsing out Redken - in their instructions, it's meant to be rinsed out, and my understanding was that Abbey rinses it out too.

I felt for so long it wasn’t working much - I have tried for years to grow my hair past my chest - but put my hair in braids the other day and realized it went down to my waist. 😅 I have extremely dry, high porosity hair despite never dying or heating it. I remember begging for a perm in middle school, and it fell out in a couple of months. I dyed my hair black once about ten years ago, and that fell out too. That was the last time I tried doing anything to it. Is it just my genetics? I’ve always preferred my hair long, but it is a little sad that it always looks so damaged. I’m going to keep growing it anyways though. 😊

hi abbey!! Biolage came out with a brand new bond line just like Redken's. would love if you did a review on it because i really want to buy the line since i love Redken's so much. the ingredients are similar but theres some different too! Biolage one contains coconut oil, Redken's doesnt!

Okay serious question. We let the hair airdry for about 80%, however, when we apply heat protectant spray, or maybe products like Color WOW after that the hair gets back to being very wet. Do I wait for these to dry a bit as well, or just go in, but if so wouldnt that again make them a bit fragile since they are wet??

I always wait for it to dry because wet is wet.🤷

Depends on your hair type. If you have curly or wavy hair, you'll need to manipulate the hair before it dries or else you'll need more heat like a curling iron or flat iron. So if you're only styling with a blow drier you'll need to use on damp hair after you've applied your heat protectant cream/spray. If using a flat iron/curling iron then you're styling already dry hair and will want to brush the heat protectant through each section of hair. As Abbey mentioned in her video there are aerosol heat protectants which would be more dry on the hair versus a water based heat protectant that would make your hair wet again. Just make sure the heat protectant you're using correlates to the heat tool you're using as not all heat protectants work the same.

I have only just learned how to properly apply a leave in and I agree - completely underrated. My hair has never felt so good even with oxg coconut oil I use that too. Leave in goes on straight after a shower, before anything else. Amazing.

But if you use coconut oil do you not use epres anymore pre-shampoo? Also, what is your routine when you DON'T use K18...?
