      Hi Abbey,
Can you do a video about keratin bond extensions?
I have been doing them for a year now because my hair didn’t want to grow after a certain length.
I know they are quite damaging so I’m looking for the best way to revive and repair my hair after I take them out....

A while ago I saw a hairdresser explain how to apply leave in serum in my hair and have always used this technique… you spread it not only all the the palms of your hands, but you also get it in between your fingers… then you use your fingers like a wide tooth comb to comb the leave in into your hair. This also helps evenly distribute products into your hair. I’m going to try sectioning, especially when shampooing, but I think it will be easier if I shampoo in the kitchen sink instead of standing up in the shower.

My hair growth has always been extremely slow. It only grows about 0,5 cm (0,197 inches) a month. It’s also always been very thin and fragile. There have been many times in my youth where people asked me if I had cut my hair when in reality it either thinned out so much at the end that the ends were barely noticeable or just broke off noticeably 😢
As a result I was always very insecure about my hair and kept it short (like everyone in the family because we all have the same bad genetics).
When I discovered your channel I thought: Let’s give it one more real try. Everyone in my family told me that we just had bad genetics and it wouldn’t work. Our hair just doesn’t grow long.
I had a pixie cut back then with about 1 cm (0,39 inch) long hair.
About 2 years later my hair is a bit longer than chin length and healthy 🥺
I know it doesn’t look like a lot for most people but I‘m incredibly proud that I managed to grow it that long and I‘m really hoping that I might even grow shoulder length hair in the next few years thanks to your tipps (and K18 😂) 💪
I‘m incredibly grateful for your channel!

When your hair will not grow or is very thin, it could be vitamin deficiency. Did you know that Vitamin D, iodine, Vitamin B12, folat, Magnesium, calcium and iron is very important for hair growth?
You should ask your doctor to check you levels of these, for iron it is ferritin. Iodine can only be checked in urine.
Ferritin needs to be over 80 for the best hair. Its not enough to be good, because good is from 15 to 300, but for the hair it should be in the higher level.
Its not included in normal blood work, you need to add all these and pay for them extra

In addition, I stopped wearing any tight style that stresses my hair, and I became obsessively careful when brushing. Also, bleach is now used only on roots. I use color depositing glosses to simulate a little highlighting. I have almost no breakage and my hair looks pretty healthy. At this point, I have tried to eliminate the HIDEOUS habits involving heat, bleach, and hair stressing that have been my practice for a VERY long time.

Great routine tips. I'd offer a friendly note to anyone considering coconut oil in their routine : just keep it off of your skin, as it is comedogenic and does clog pores, leading to skin irritations and breakouts. But it tends to be good for most porous, dry, damaged hair. If you don't care for the scent, opt for refined coconut oil, which has most of the scent removed through processing.

What's the point or major difference between using special "hair oil" with all the other ingredients, and just straight oil, like coconut or olive oil etc? Don't they both do just as good a job? And what's the real major difference between using a leave in conditioner, that you made by diluting a little bit of your normal conditioner with water, and spraying that on your hair, versus the expensive leave in conditioners?

    • @buckyyyb

Abbey’s hair routine in general is over the top & not realistic for most people. (Don’t come @ me, I love her and I love watching & learning from her)
I think with influencers we need to remember that this is their job. She makes money off of having beautiful hair. So for her it’s an investment & part of her job, not a luxury.
Once you have that in mind it’s also worth it to add that she uses SO SO MANY products because she tests them out & is always on the hunt for the next best thing to show us. You absolutely do not need to be using a 10 step haircare routine to have pretty hair!
If you want to apply her recommendations in a more realistic way, here’s what I do:
      1) pre-shampoo oil
      2) shampoo (& I get the cheap one, I just want it to clean my hair for my other products to work. It’s not worth investing in bond repair shampoos since the bond repair ingredient doesn’t have much time to work & you wash it out. I’m not saying it makes no sense to use, just that for an average person it will not make a huge difference)
      3) conditioner or mask (you can have just one & only buy another one once you run out. You also DO NOT need both in one routine)
      4) some sort of leave-in
Here I do purchase the expensive leave-ins, but only because they last for a really long time since you don’t have to apply a lot & so the cost per use isn’t super high).
And that’s it. If you have bleach damage then maybe also buy ONE bond repair product that is within your budget & just use it as directed & be consistent with it. (I use K18, because it also lasts a long time & you don’t need to use it often).
      Hope this helps! ❤

Well, after a few years of heat damage and too many ponytails i had breakage. My little brain thought since my pony was thinning that my hair was thinning. All these years later im realizing its not thinning it was just a ton of BREAKAGE --- why did no one tell me this ??? Im on my hair journey now and im also bleaching. So im trying to find a balance. I just started my hair growth journey. It's already relatively long (almost waist-length at my back), but I want it longer 😅. The most challenging part has been cutting out heat. I just came to terms with the fact that I need to stop using my curling wand last week. I have too many split ends and seem to just get more everytime I use it.
Also, wearing it up when working has been rough as well, but it's constantly knotting at the nape of my neck to where the collar of my shirt is. Finding protective styles that look okay on me has been a challenge. I know you have a video on protective styles for sleep, but one for hairstyles during the day and when out in public would be amazing!

You can make your hair healthy. Yes. But as far as length, that’s in our genetics. If you’ve never been able to grow your hair past a certain length, you’ll never be able to. Hair has a different stopping point for everyone. So take “hair growth” advice with a grain of salt. If your say 30 years old and your hair has never been longer then your shoulders, chances are they won’t ever be. Hope that makes e sense ❤

I have 4 sisters. We all have afro hair and have never been able to grow it very long. Thirty years ago my hair stylist used me in a show and won first place but broke off most of my hair. The Clairol help line told me how to condition it to fix it and it grew super long to the middle of my back in a year. After that I started getting relaxers and scalp burns so it never really grew long again. There was a time when I was relaxing myself, and again it was almost to the middle of my back but I colored it too and it broke off. Now that we’re older, my sisters have been able to grow their relaxed hair longer than ever by going to the salon every single week. My natural hair isn’t long due to breakage but it’s super thick. I think if I took better care of it I’d have that length again. Also mom always had short hair- not even shoulder length. After she started taking a prescription medication her hair grew almost to her waist within 2 years. Medication was for osteoporosis.

One thing that has really helped is the coconut oil treatment, but also sectioning off my hair when I am applying any kind of product. I agree. I've been thinking about this a lot. Hair is dead and once it's damaged it's not possible to heal it, only make it appear to be healed by using products that add shine, smoothing, bonding etc. what my hair looks like when I blow dry and curl it (it looks like her second 'after' photo) vs what my hair looks like with no styling is totally different (unstructured, not polished, frizzy). It's the same hair but looks completely different. Its not healthier when it's styled but it definitely looks healthier. I have learned a ton of tips from Abby (hair turban drying, hair oil pre shampoo, k18, everpure shampoo and conditioner, double shampooing, protective hair styles, leave in conditioner, and more) but I wish there was a conversation about healthier hair not always looking perfectly styled.

Section of the front of your hair and then put the remaining bulk of your hair into a regular ponytail then take the front section and pull it into a ponytail around the first one and secure with a second tie around both. This means you can make it fairly tight but with the weight of your hair being supported by a regular ponytail then the weight isn't being put through the delicate hairline.

I always thought, this was knowledge that's already settled in anybody's heads, but I realized over the years, that it's not the case, so thank you for spreading it!
I am so glad to have a mother who started teaching me these as soon as possible and I always had long, shiny, healthy hair as a kid and teen until I really wanted to experiment with haircuts and color. That was a phase - one that lasted 21 years and is just about to end now because I wanna grow my hair out again. I am 36 and tired of the short, bleached hair. I already transitioned to a shade that's at least the same value (level of depth) than my own color so I don't have to touch it up that often and it wasn't a breeze to get there. My hair only is a level 6, but trust me, bleach damaged hair doesn't want to keep darker pigments in. But it's worth it, my hair is growing really nicely and also pretty fast. My hair is also on the finer side and probably not as dense as yours, but I have naturally wavy hair (which is something I figured out in my late 20's, didn't know it before) with a lot of visual volume, so I don't mind that.
I hope a lot of people watch (and already watched) this video and take your advice because it's really good. I have learned a few techniques to apply product to make it work better for my hair texture and it did change everything for me, really.

But lately (last two weeks) my hair is getting frizzy, I'm seeing noticeable damage, and even after styling my hair with heat, it still gets buffy after a while. I have extremely dry menopausal hair that has completely changed textures on me!
I am applying a very light amount on the days I don’t wash and sleep with it overnight and the next day, I just spray a little dry shampoo at my roots and it’s made such a difference. I apply a heavier amount before shampooing on the days I wash.

    Hello Abby
First of all thank you so much for doing this very detailed video. As you were telling your story you opened my eyes about some things I was doing wrong in my routine and wondering why the products are not working.
The part of leave-in treatments to be exact.
Because I have long, fine hair I was using leave in product in my hair BUT I was not coating my hair properly as you said and I woke up with some split ends on one side of my hair more pronounced than the other because I was afraid that using more product would weight my hair down although on the bottle it says words like ' light weight' and " for fine hair".
Now after I listened to you and saw the way you apply your leave in products , I will start to apply them diligently on my hair as well to seal my ends better and prevent split ends as much as possible to preserve my length.
One more time thank you so much for all the informations you brought to us ❤❤❤❤

Ironically, my hair is the healthiest it’s ever been, and I get my roots bleached every 6-8 weeks. My hair is light to begin with, so maybe that’s why? I had an outbreak of scalp psoriasis right after a shit ton of my hair fell out after I went to my husband’s friend’s wife (who is a hairdresser!) and she did a color remover thing on my hair and sent me home in a hair mask. As I was washing my hair out, clumps and clumps of hair were coming out. I lost so much hair and then on top of that, BAM! Scalp psoriasis. My hair was so long and healthy and I’ve been recovering from that for a few years. My hair is finally at a very healthy stage again, but I know I’m doing some things I shouldn’t, especially after watching your channel!

Might just be me but wanted to see if anyone else has the same problem. Has anyone using k18 found after 2 or 3 months more hair loss when washing. It could be my diet or time of the year but seems to happy more wash after k18 was applied.

I hate hair in my face and I love sleek strict ponytails and braids. But unfortunately pulling hair back too strong is harmful. Since I use Olaplex instead of Kérastase, my hair is so silky that my silk scrunchies slip out easily. Therefore, I would like some detailed instructions on how to create loose buns and braids by using silk scrunchies or pinned back hairstyles with hair clips.
Gladly also to let the hair air dry. I only rough dry my roots on a cold setting, then let air dry tossed with silk scrunchies. I would like to know how to air dry and creating waves without heat, brushes or curlers. Thanks for the help in advance.

Thankyou for teaching me all about hair care I really had no clue how to look after my hair for many years until I met you. I now know about serums, conditioners, bonds , masks. and to not always wear my hair up in pony tails I’m wearing a low pony and put it in a clip. I stopped dyeing my hair blonde every few months eith box hair drys from Claro. I never heard of high rise toning hair. I haven’t dyed my hair for 4 months now. I take much better of my hair I stopped using my straightener and curling iron. Never heard of heat protectant til you mentioned it. I honestly am grateful I met you and you have gorgeous hair.

Hi Abbey! I’m wondering why you choose to use the OGX coconut oil product rather than 100 percent coconut oil. I’m appreciate your advice.

She’s said before, because it’s formulated for hair so won’t weight it down the same as regular coconut oil. Or leave residue

I know it’s not the point of your video but thank you so much for saying 5” is still a “chop” even though it was still “long” by most people. I have always had long hair and recently did my 5ish year chop (about 6”), leaving it at chest length & several people (my mil) said it didn’t count as a chop.

If you cut 5 inches of hair no matter how long your hair is it's still a chop. Those people make no sense
