Great review, Thank you!! I drove long time AMG but don’t miss them at all! The Model S is incredible fast like nothing else, very good on my long range tours trough Europe and fun pur! What can I say, Advantage from Technology , The Best or Nothing .....the ultimative driving machine, Tesla!
It started out at about 372 miles when I got a ‘20 model S in February, then a software update upped that to about 390, then an EPA reassessment raised it to 402 miles. Those OTA software updates come about every 3 weeks and each adds a handful of new functionality or a refinement on a existing one, typically more options. The way it’s designed additions can go on for years, really a superb design/interface. Tesla cars gets better with time, what other car brand has that?
tesla (unlike others) quotes range figures if you drive from 100% full battery to 0% full (empty), which is completely unrealistic as they recommend not charging it to 100% and obviously running it to empty will likely leave you stranded somewhere. then there's temperature. in really cold weather expect to knock 40% off the range especially as the s doesn't have a heat pump.
I do like the S and the X, but not that keen on the 3 or the Y. My reason? Because they don't have the "through steering wheel dials" that 99% of cars have and all the info is on the tablet to the side. And I know Tesla fanboys will say/winge, "Oh! You get used to it." I know I can get used to it, but that still doesn't stop me liking them both. If Tesla did dials in the "normal" position, then I'd like all 4 of them.
Drive a P90D, rip your face off fast, free supercharging, looks incredible, 3 dogs in the boot regularly, near zero company car tax…..best car I’ve ever owned! Absolutely love it! Great review
Reasons to get a Model S (Performance): 1. Win every stoplight race........for life 2. Miss every gas station and emissions test.......for life 3. Get free power/tech upgrades........for life 4. Drive a cooler car than anybody you know 5. Get the best car of the 21st century, all for under $100k
I prefer the Model S because of the design language and range better than any of the Telsas in the Tesla line up. I like the space and cargo room which is better than the M3, I like the heated steering wheel and windshield wipers. I'm a bigger guy the seats were very secure for me. The ride quality is perfect for me because I do a lot of road trips and for me feeling the feedback from the road can be a little annoying. That's just a few things. I think the Model S is definitely a good buy.
Guys, one comment. Tesla no longer pass the free supercharging onto the next owner when you buy from them direct. They remove the free supercharging and free premium connectivity from enabled cars once they take them into stock and sell as a CPO. If you want a second hand car and to keep the free supercharging and unlimited premium connectivity data package you have to buy privately or through a third party dealer.
Yes I believe Tesla now remove the full Self Drive and premium connectivity (if they were present) for second hand cars they re-sell and price them lower instead. Even if you buy private or through a non Tesla 3rd Party you still have to be very very sure on what is and is not included, and the asking price reflects this.
@@cactuschatt More like 30k+. The first time I went on the Tesla website and built my dream model S car to see how much it would cost, it was close to $100,000. I tried again yesterday and the same car was $67,000.
@@kojok4667 I first did it in 2016 and it was close to 100k. I did it again at the same time I left my comment (about a month ago), and the price came out to $67,000. Go to the Tesla website and try it yourself. If you get the base model with the cheapest everything, it comes out to $67,000. It's only more expensive if you get upgrades (i.e. to the interior, exterior, etc).
Please stop quoting the 0-100% charge time. It doesn't mean anything, and it's not comparable between different cars with different batteries and efficiencies. And it put off people that doesn't know better ("15 hours to charge my car? What I'm supposed to do with that?"). A much better number to quote is charging time to get a certain range, say 50KM for domestic/AC, or 200KM for a fast charge, for example.
3 is COMMONLY used to replace a capital letter "E," by tech savvy internet users, in messages, comments, and primarily in names... Just as 5 is used to replace the capital S, and 1 is used to replace lower case L's... So uber tech savvy professionals (like the engineers, and other employees, at Tesla) intentionally spelling the word "sexy," with S - 3 - X - Y is by no means a far stretch.
Surprisingly there's still a lot of room for improvement, at the same time I can't find anything as fuel efficient and the other options seem to be more expensive.
Recent software releases increased range to 402 (double the Porsche?) and it now will stop and proceed at red lights and stop signs if someone is ahead of you. Sentry mode is awesome. The Model S has aged very well but I would wait for the Plaid version since it is due out later this year. In the meantime, WE LOVE OUR MODEL 3.
@@bluebikerathar The main delay will be the amount of data. The system has to learn the rules for every country. More cars, the faster learning occurs.
1:34 Model S is the best as it is wide and long, 3 is the sportiest as the interior is sleek and love the track mode, X is a super luxury concept, Y is for a family man and looks like a 3 so I love that it is sporty.
I love how this is a week old and already outdated. The car may be 8 years old without many visual changes but it's constantly evolving in both software and hardware upgrades.
The Model S is the nicest if you look at the exterior, but if you look at the interior it is the 3 or Y. I like the screen when it is laying down much more than standing up. Also, the 3 and Y is even more minimalistic which gives you a more futuristic feeling.
I think that you misspoke at 8:34 when you said undoubtedly the Model S is one of the fastest cars in the world. It has a top speed of 163mph, I think there are many cars that have a higher top speed. I think that you meant to say one of the quickest cars in the world which has to do with acceleration.
How long ago was this filmed? Traffic lights are shown on the screen and the autopilot responds to green and red light and stop signs. He said that traffic lights were coming.
Correction. If you buy a Model S from Tesla`s second hand inventory you will NOT get free supercharging for the life of the car. That was an original marketing incentive for new cars pre 2017, so be careful! Tesla are removing free supercharging from old cars being part exchanged
My S85D just coming up to 5 years old. Magic carpet, rocket ship, so cheap to run, roomy, comfortable, quiet, perpetually updated. Even non-car-interest passengers talk about it. I did spec the better seats, air suspension etc and feel very little desire to change the car. If I do it will be repeat order paid for by a very small bite out of the increase in my TSLA shares. More to reward Tesla than me.
Camping in a Tesla is great. I did it recently and despite being hot AF out I stayed cool all night. After watching Netflix before bed on the big screen. How long ago was this filmed? So many new features not mentioned. What about the games and movies?
Shamut on EV’s Existing stock cars still have unlimited supercharging associated with them. Probably trying to clear inventory ahead of new battery cars (hopefully!)
Yeah im sure they did away with free supercharging sometime back. They did have a month last year they were pushing cars, so offered free supercharging, but alas it didn't last long 😢
Chris Potts that’s just a clear indication that if U can ever afford a brand new 1 (which would be my goal for 2025), HUNT ON QUARTER ENDS and U might end up with a rare bird - a late (❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️4TECH) Tesla Model S with perpetual free driving. A GOAL to set, just put your own date. I’ve got a hunch that Elon loves the S so much, they will just keep upgrading it forever, and by doing so will change the automotive industry!
Great video. BTW, the symbols for the second and hour are "s" and "h", respectively, not "sec" and "hr". Also, you need the space between the number and the unit symbols.
Just a few months ago - shortly after I ordered my car, but before it was produced - Tesla changed the seats to thinner ones and did away with the adjustable headrest. I was uncertain about the changes, but since owning the car I’ve found the new seats remarkably comfortable on long drives.
@Seawolf Yep I agree, but I still find it strange that this review says the Model S delivers worse than it's EPA range and the Taycan is supposed to deliver better than it's EPA range - based on real world conditions. This suggests the EPA cycle is doing something to mask the Taycan's real range, something I have never heard of before with any car, EV or otherwise. I read recently that a Hyundai Kona achieved a whopping 600 miles. Driven round an oval track at 20 mph.
@@ouethojlkjn Bjørn Nyland on TH-cam did a real world range test with Model S Long Range and Taycan 4S 93 kW. Taycan got 425km or range and Model S 473km of range. That's 264 and 294 miles or range respectively.
@@Hyrppa95 Thanks that's interesting- Bjorn does good range tests. Can you post the link? Looking at the EV database, the Model S LR is 90kwh (not 100 kwh) and the Taycan 4S has 83.7kwh (not 93kwh) so I guess these figures are usable as opposed to actual. This suggests still only around 6kwh difference in the packs. They go on to report that the Model S does 100 miles more because it is that much more efficient watts per mile. This is the bit that is confusing as the Taycan is unashamedly a performance car and makes no concessions to economy. But maybe if both cars are driven carefully, have similar battery size, similar weight, similar drag then they are likely to get similar results.
Glad you did some comparison points to the Taycan. Soooo impressed with these two car companies embracing the future with practical great looking products.
Can you please do the review with the most recent adaptive air suspension improvements delivered with the latest software update 2020.32.1? I've had it for a week and it's a game changer in cornering and damping!

@@jamesbedford7327 actually 0-60mph is claimed 2.6s, 0-100kph is 2.8s. Yes I agree it will complete quite well I believe, and once turns come the Porsche will be in a different universe. 🤫
It's just a pity that manufactures have not concentrated on making an EV that millions of ordinary working-class can afford to buy! Not much good a car having all the latest tech & with a thousand-mile range if you can't afford one
Its early days of electric cars and the supporting infrastructure So early adopters are key with disposable income In time cars will drop in price as technology and mass production improves Just like a 4k telly one minute cost 3000 for one now can pick on up for 300 quid
Bear in mind that Tesla is the only auto manufacturer that is not price gouging on EVs. There is no justification for the cost of (say) a Vauxhall Corsa EV when compared to the same Corsa with an engine. They can't harp on about battery cost because it has been plummeting and continues to reduce. I have done the math (as have many others) and I believe the main reason why there are no cheap affordable EVs is because until they are forced to, the manufacturers won't make them. It makes no sense for THEM, it makes lots of sense for the hapless car buyer. If Tesla came out with a no frills 200 mile sub compact for £12,000 - then all of a sudden the rest of them would be at it. Until then, there is no incentive.
Hamwamaangezockt what kind of sales problems do they have? They don’t have a dealership network to scam you and rip you off like with all the other traditional auto companies. Plus they have mobile service as well. Something also not offered by all other traditional auto companies.
For a car Tech company to be about 10 years old it's incredible, cosmetic stuff is easy fix, the core important things like driver train, battery, driving dynamics, newest technology and solid mechanicals Tesla got all right which is the priority
I hope to get one these someday, I don't care about the some of the fit and finishes, it's just there's nothing like electric acceleration, even my measley 3.3kw ebike will do 0-40mph in 6.5seconds. while I know that's not fast in the car world, for a 32kg bicycle with a 75kg rider, that's fast. Try doing that on a petrol scooter and it puts it into perspective.

The way it’s designed additions can go on for years, really a superb design/interface. Tesla cars gets better with time, what other car brand has that?
not the performance model
tesla (unlike others) quotes range figures if you drive from 100% full battery to 0% full (empty), which is completely unrealistic as they recommend not charging it to 100% and obviously running it to empty will likely leave you stranded somewhere. then there's temperature. in really cold weather expect to knock 40% off the range especially as the s doesn't have a heat pump.
Finally an honest and balanced review of this car.
Can't wait for the UK to adopt the metric system so reviews like this make sense.
I love the model S, but I have a major gripe. For the price and for safety reasons, they should really offer a heads up display feature.
11:43 It's actually 402 miles, tested by EPA. :)
The S is beautiful, but I love the 3's understated look too.
I want one of each tesla
I do like the S and the X, but not that keen on the 3 or the Y. My reason? Because they don't have the "through steering wheel dials" that 99% of cars have and all the info is on the tablet to the side.
And I know Tesla fanboys will say/winge, "Oh! You get used to it."
I know I can get used to it, but that still doesn't stop me liking them both. If Tesla did dials in the "normal" position, then I'd like all 4 of them.
I prefer the S and Y for exactly the same reason. Much prefer the clean layout of the 3.
I just went from a model S to a Model 3 and it's no big deal for me at least.
Is that your only reason?
As a 3 owner it’s like complaining about a notch on a phone. You forget about it after a day.
Comfort suspension mode? I think they need to read the manual comfort mode relates to the power steering.
Drive a P90D, rip your face off fast, free supercharging, looks incredible, 3 dogs in the boot regularly, near zero company car tax…..best car I’ve ever owned!
Absolutely love it!
Great review
Reasons to get a Model S (Performance):
1. Win every stoplight race........for life
2. Miss every gas station and emissions test.......for life
3. Get free power/tech upgrades........for life
4. Drive a cooler car than anybody you know
5. Get the best car of the 21st century, all for under $100k
Numbers 4 and 5 i would disagree with, only thing Tesla is good for is range and performance. Otherwise it is not a very nice car.
The model S has continued to be the best looking electric car, and one of the best looking sedans throughout its lifespan.
"More than 500 superchargers in the UK" proceeds to only show Southern England, that's the UK covered then
Excellent thoughts!
For me, the Model S is still the benchmark. The Model 3 could take over that title if it were not for its “WTF?!” screen.
the landscape screen is far better than the upright one in model s. you get used to it in about two days.
@@artokiiskinen1058 Except the S has two screens, one right in front of the driver. It doesn't get better than that.
Lol
I prefer the Model S because of the design language and range better than any of the Telsas in the Tesla line up. I like the space and cargo room which is better than the M3, I like the heated steering wheel and windshield wipers. I'm a bigger guy the seats were very secure for me. The ride quality is perfect for me because I do a lot of road trips and for me feeling the feedback from the road can be a little annoying. That's just a few things.
I think the Model S is definitely a good buy.
Nice review , I have the model X, solar and power wall and there’s no going back
very nice. this is my goal too.
Even if you buy private or through a non Tesla 3rd Party you still have to be very very sure on what is and is not included, and the asking price reflects this.
welcome to software as a service. Its not like Tesla will be the only one to do this, it just makes business sense
This isn’t the 2021 Model S… it’s 2020…
This guy laying down inside the car all snuggled up waving is hilarious 😂
Model s is just an insane car, looks also so good!
Who is here after massive price drop of model S?
You mean the 5k drop?
@@cactuschatt More like 30k+. The first time I went on the Tesla website and built my dream model S car to see how much it would cost, it was close to $100,000. I tried again yesterday and the same car was $67,000.
@@Ana-ls8rh when did you build that dream car?
@@kojok4667 I first did it in 2016 and it was close to 100k. I did it again at the same time I left my comment (about a month ago), and the price came out to $67,000. Go to the Tesla website and try it yourself. If you get the base model with the cheapest everything, it comes out to $67,000. It's only more expensive if you get upgrades (i.e. to the interior, exterior, etc).
@@Ana-ls8rh oh okay
Always love a good professional Model S review.
That’s why they don’t depreciate as fast as ICE cars. Tesla’s get better with software updates. Plus they are much safer overall
New update works in every country? ( red light / stops and green light ). Some countries ddoesn't allow this yet.
@@bluebikerathar
The main delay will be the amount of data.
The system has to learn the rules for every country.
More cars, the faster learning occurs.
Jaimie Duthoy blame the regulations in America is great
Although in real world Tesla tends to get less range than promised and Porsche more than promised. So they are not that far apart in reality.
1:34 Model S is the best as it is wide and long, 3 is the sportiest as the interior is sleek and love the track mode, X is a super luxury concept, Y is for a family man and looks like a 3 so I love that it is sporty.
Model S by far is the best looking car !!
I love how this is a week old and already outdated. The car may be 8 years old without many visual changes but it's constantly evolving in both software and hardware upgrades.
Steve Drawdy - I’ve been getting software updates about every 3 weeks for my S.
Ah so it has a HUD now? Matrix LEDs? Laser lights? Coloured mood lighting?
AMERICAN EPA claims 402miles for long-range
Even if I save all my money for 10 years, without even spending on food, electricity; I still wouldn't be able to afford it.
If theres a will, theres a way my friend
If u save all money without spending on food than u can't be able to save urself😂
Migrate to other country then
@@michakowalski2901The problem isn't with the country I live in, the problem is with my earning. I don't have a job, I'm student now. 😂😂😂😂😂
You only make 6,000$ a year? Bruh.
Oh my, what a stickler for semantics
I found this vid very helpful - extremely clear, knowledgable and forthright
Straightforward and succinct! No attitude, just a nice report.
Thumbs up from me.
5:24 The panel gap on the rear hatch looks like a bad accident repair!
5:22 I thought you were joking until I saw it!
@@srbs73 I am sure, a real owner, would have got it repaired for free in warranty
Biplab Kumar Ghosh I expect so too, but doesn’t say a lot for quality control if they let things like that make it out the factory.
Expecting a superficial review and got a really indepth drilled down review. Awesome !
How long ago was this filmed? Traffic lights are shown on the screen and the autopilot responds to green and red light and stop signs. He said that traffic lights were coming.
It doesn’t yet for me... living in The Netherlands
European countries get different updates

I am so grateful that I won this tesla in a raffle!
I love it (:
Damn you are lucky
Whaaat? I didn't know it spelled S3XY 😂
Neat.
First name of the Model 3 was Model 3 but they couldnt get it due to copyright.
The S is still one of the best looking cars on the road.
More to reward Tesla than me.
can you please also do a similar review on model X? thanks !
Camping in a Tesla is great. I did it recently and despite being hot AF out I stayed cool all night. After watching Netflix before bed on the big screen.
How long ago was this filmed? So many new features not mentioned. What about the games and movies?
Great review # i suscribed
My brother crashed his last month over a big hill and the airbags didn’t even go off, Tesla are investigating.
Does the free supercharging if you buy a used Tesla apply to just the model S, or can that be had with the model Y as well?
I think free unlimited supercharging disappeared with the recent price drop
Shamut on EV’s Existing stock cars still have unlimited supercharging associated with them. Probably trying to clear inventory ahead of new battery cars (hopefully!)
BoatingDave 1 can U share the link? I tried to find new inventory cars and found none. Perhaps the Q2 sales push is over
Yeah im sure they did away with free supercharging sometime back.
The model s and the new roadster are by far the best looking Tesla's
Honestly model s is the best car I've seen so far, I may be 12 but in the future I'm definitely getting the latest tesla in da future
This car is a dream! Just beautiful❤️
I was sold as soon as you said existing inventory models get unlimited supercharging for their entire life.
How many hours can a Tesla run its AC, starting with a full battery charge, while the car is just standing and not driving around?
Great video. BTW, the symbols for the second and hour are "s" and "h", respectively, not "sec" and "hr". Also, you need the space between the number and the unit symbols.
Model S the best looking car you can buy.
Model S looks best to me. New roadster looks brilliant and the Cyber truck will be amazing
Did they change the seats again? Seems like you cant adjust head rest anymore?
Just a few months ago - shortly after I ordered my car, but before it was produced - Tesla changed the seats to thinner ones and did away with the adjustable headrest. I was uncertain about the changes, but since owning the car I’ve found the new seats remarkably comfortable on long drives.
@@Zobeid that sounds like a bait and switch.
If it handled like the Model 3 I would've loved it :(
I have no dream to buy Tesla but i have a dream to drive 🚗🔌🔋
Door pockets are the alcantara door lined section of the door panel up top, there is a rubber mat on the bottom of those pockets, acts as storage.
It's EPA 402 miles of range which is what you will get in real world and it's coming from someone who drives a model S
Yes I don't see how a Taycan in real world reviews can be claimed to have more than the stated EPA range and this Model S is supposed to have less?
@@ouethojlkjn Posting links is a bit difficult on the comments here, but there is a chart in "Porsche Taycan 4S 93 kWh range test" video

It's just a pity that manufactures have not concentrated on making an EV that millions of ordinary working-class can afford to buy! Not much good a car having all the latest tech & with a thousand-mile range if you can't afford one
Its early days of electric cars and the supporting infrastructure
So early adopters are key with disposable income
In time cars will drop in price as technology and mass production improves
Just like a 4k telly one minute cost 3000 for one now can pick on up for 300 quid
That’s a 2021? I thought they incorporated all switches into the steering wheel.
Hi What Car, you forgot to mention the probably most refined EV on the market, named Mercedes EQC!
Good and comprehensive review. But isn't it 8 years too late?
It's had quite a few updates over the years, so we thought we'd give it a revisit!
What Car?
It would have been nice to mention what those upgrades are.
@@itsm3th3b33 Hundreds of software updates. Increase in range from 260 to 400 miles. Larger battery. New seats. Faster acceleration
The only thing Tesla NEEDS to do is quality control. They nail the hard part and fail the simple.
Think the Tesla model S is definitely looking its age now. Can't believe Tesla hasn't brought a replacement model out by now.
The no door pocket bothers me still, the unsupportive seats in this one is already improved over the old ones, so imagine how bad those were...
Test by saying " play George Formby" turned out nice again 🙂
I hope to get one these someday, I don't care about the some of the fit and finishes, it's just there's nothing like electric acceleration, even my measley 3.3kw ebike will do 0-40mph in 6.5seconds. while I know that's not fast in the car world, for a 32kg bicycle with a 75kg rider, that's fast. Try doing that on a petrol scooter and it puts it into perspective.
