Great video! after comparing a used S vs 3, I bought a 2015 S85D from Tesla in April 2019, with 12,004 miles. It was a returned 3 year lease and felt like a brand new car. At that time, it came with a 4 year/50,000 mile warranty starting from my delivery date, free supercharging and free premium connectivity. 19” wheels, Technology Upgrade with Autopilot 1.0, all heated seats, premium sound system with subwoofer, and panoramic sunroof. I am one of the lucky ones. Although I live in central Texas, I bought a second hand 2013 Model S from an individual in Sacramento, California in April, 2020 sight unseen (except in photos) with 91K miles. The seller posted over 30 photos and answered ALL of my questions regarding condition of the car before I made the purchase, but if you ask the right questions and verify the veracity of the answers, then you can come out fine. However, buying that way is still a gamble.

Excellent video; I only wish I had found it before I recently purchased my 2018 Model S P100D. I wrongfully assumed that ALL 2018s had MCU2, and of course, mine was an earlier 2018 that still had MCU1. Also, another critical point you mentioned is if the pre-owned Tesla has been back in the hands of Tesla or was purchased by the 3rd party dealer/seller from a Tesla auction, as they will strip Full-Self Driving Autopilot. Mine had it on the advert (the selling 3rd party dealer didn't advertise it), but after I picked up the car, it had for about two days, but as soon as the ownership was transferred to me, Tesla removed FSD and claimed it never had it. Customer service didn't care and told me I'm sol! Thank you for a great video; I'm commenting so that it hopefully helps others not make the mistake I've made.

Ive got 2014/15 P85, the metal roof is fibreglass so super light and the CofG benefits, the cold weather package also included heated wipers, heated jets but Ive no evidence of either actually working and the wheel was not heated......Tesla changes, you could write a book. BTW my car had water ingress into boot for 6 years, fooled everyone including Tesla. I found it, the rear lamps (on the rear wing) have drainage channels that can channel water to above the ( 2 each side) black plastic oblong HVAC exhaust vents either side of the boot. Remove them from inside the boot stick some L section plastic on above them to divert any water flow away ( can all be done from inside the boot via the holes the vents were in ) and seal them back in with silicone sealant. Prove if yours is the problem flow water onto the rear lamps and watch inside at the vents (side carpets need to be removed)

Very good video, as a Model S owner for almost 4 years now... almost all the points I would have raised were covered. Only thing I didn't see, was the Arachnid wheel option mentioned, a popular upgrade as a referral gift.
I'd like to see more info regarding battery degradation on used models. Also a video on how it is to drive a Model S in UK compared to Model 3 in terms of body dimensions would be much appreciated. Model S seems huge and living in an area with small roads could be a problem maybe? Thanks and amazing content as usual
I bought a second hand 2013 Model S from an individual in April, 2020 with 91K miles. The main battery pack had 91% capacity on the date I took delivery, but it has dropped to 89% today (104K mi.). I use 110V charging at home and only charge to 80% (unless I am going on a road trip when I do use the Supercharger system) and never run the battery down below 10%.
sounds like tesla’s are comparable to iphones. the battery degrades and the tech changes so fast that the resell value is garbage. I imagine at a certain point people will be giving away tesla’s for free because that 15k battery is the price of a new car.
Your cars look so much better crafted over there. All the stitching and alcatera leather looks beautiful compared to the teslas Ive seen over here in America.
Great video. I watched right the way through and took notes on things to check when I went to buy a 2017 75D with had done 60,000 miles. Thank God I did because one of the daylight running lights was faulty and the dealer was trying to get away with it. He made sure the car was switched off when I was looking around it. Only because I insisted on seeing the running lights working did I see the fault. Saved me £1200. Anyone know if Tesla are now agreeing a lower price for replacement or if the newer version of the lights is available without having to pay the outrageous Tesla price?
Mega comprehensive, I did have a fan cooling problem with my screen behind steering wheel and the screen would heat up so much it was shut down by the car. That made a for an interesting drive until it had cooled down enough to come back online again. My vehicle a Model S 85RW late 2014 with Autopilot 1. I did get this replaced by Tesla at reduced cost even though my car was out of the standard 50k miles warranty. It turned out that Tesla themselves had seen the problem and upgraded the screen fan's to avoid a larger recall problem. My second screen was of the new version with better fans and cooling and have since worked flawlessly.
Great video. Looking at buying a used 16MY 90D and this video was very informative. Prices on possible repairs might be an idea, like the compressor / air suspension parts etc.

Wow! Fantastic video, full of imortant information that would take years of searching to find anywhere else. Looking forward to the one about the model 3 that has storage space inside for vacuum cleaners, sailing boat, lawn mowers, step ladders etc. in the centre console. Thank you.
I wondered about the 60 that actually has the 75 battery and is only locked by software: this must be one of the best options in terms of degradation and also very nice because you can charge to 100% without worrying about wear, right?
Fantastic video and so much information to show the different specs and version changes and the good and the bad bits.... Fair play for making this in a very easy to understand tutorial....

Very good video, as a Model S owner for almost 4 years now... almost all the points I would have raised were covered. Only thing I didn't see, was the Arachnid wheel option mentioned, a popular upgrade as a referral gift.
Love arachnids, had on a couple of my own. Good point, I’ll cover them in something else.
I knew absolutely nothing about Teslas but I sure do now.
@@UTArch1you still happy with your car? I found 2013 model s 127k mileage. I’m a little nervous to buy it.
sounds like tesla’s are comparable to iphones. the battery degrades and the tech changes so fast that the resell value is garbage. I imagine at a certain point people will be giving away tesla’s for free because that 15k battery is the price of a new car.
Perfect timing, I'm looking at getting a used Model S in September, so handy info to know ahead. Thanks!
Your cars look so much better crafted over there. All the stitching and alcatera leather looks beautiful compared to the teslas Ive seen over here in America.
Excellent buying guide, I'm thinking of buying a model S, sadly there's not much choice on your website, must keep looking! :)
Don’t let the length of the video stop you from watching
This was an excellent video
Thank you 😊
Great video.
I now know who to buy a used Tesla from, see you next year 👏👏
Great video! I’m looking to pick up a used S with free supercharging this video gave me a lot to look at on my upcoming test drives
Great presentation. Rarely can i watch a 30 min YT video
Thank you! 😊
Great video. Looking at buying a used 16MY 90D and this video was very informative. Prices on possible repairs might be an idea, like the compressor / air suspension parts etc.
Absolute phenomenal video for a Tesla buyers guide. Top notch
I have been going back and forth about buying an S. This was by far the most informative, honest, intelligent review I've seen. As another person stated, if I was in the UK I'd be buying my Model S from you straight away. Do you have any advice to find dealers like yourself? I live in Southern California and there are a ton of used car dealers, I don't even know where to start looking for someone with your knowledge and honesty. Do you have any suggestions?
Thank you a detailed approach to buying a Tesla.
Fantastic in depth, the gold nuggets of experience we needed much appreciated !
love my model s..... great video!! Every single one of those Teslas in that garage is bad azz!!
Wow, everything I wanted to know before buying a used Tesla, very informative and interesting. Thanks!
Best used Tesla video out there! Truly informative.
Excellent video, I’m new to the channel but enjoying the content. My in laws live near your dealership, I’ll pop by when the model Y becomes available
Thanks for mentioning whiny milling noise during acceleration. Had it checked out and had drive unit replaced. Basically, I got brand new car. Range has ever gotten better.
Thanks for this video - really competent, lots of info, time well spent. Much appreciated!
One of the most informative videos I’ve ever watched
On your test drive also check for a steering wheel on the wrong side
Superb video, all the stuff I've been curious about and haven't found elsewhere.
Wow! Fantastic video, full of imortant information that would take years of searching to find anywhere else. Looking forward to the one about the model 3 that has storage space inside for vacuum cleaners, sailing boat, lawn mowers, step ladders etc. in the centre console. Thank you.
Excellent video. I would buy a Tesla from you without hesitation. Thanks!
I wondered about the 60 that actually has the 75 battery and is only locked by software: this must be one of the best options in terms of degradation and also very nice because you can charge to 100% without worrying about wear, right?
Great video's mate! Keep it up!
Would be really nice to have parts in the video so I can skip to some parts I wanted to re-watch.
Awesome video! About to purchase a pre-owned Model S and definitely armed with knowledge after viewing - Cheers!
From United States of America great video buddy
Fantastic video and so much information to show the different specs and version changes and the good and the bad bits.... Fair play for making this in a very easy to understand tutorial....
Thank you so much! very clear and well focused on the car. Model S is my favourite Tesla and hope I will be able to buy one sooner or later ... maybe used, and this guide really helped me understanding what I should look for when inspecting one. Thanks again!
Highly informative video. Excellent work. Not everyday video it answered most of used Tesla car questions. Will be looking forward for that used Model X video next. Thanks for this one.
Excellent video, thank you, I'm considering a used Model S so this is helpful, very clear and informative.
Thank you for an excellent video. I'm just about to purchase a used Model S and this is gold! If you had the model I was looking for in stock I would definitely be coming to you first.
Yep, absolutely fantastic review, top gear sucks compared to karl pilkington reviewing Tesla's, joking sir, if I lived in the uk I would 100% buy from your shop, great quality and assurance your ethic sells it self. SUBSCRIBED....
I have a face lift 2016 with grey interior and light headlining. In my opinion the best combo... the tan reminds me of a 1980s pc base station colour and the black with the black headliner makes the car dark and small inside
We love spacex & we just got our S dual motor fsd while the tri/4? motor fsd cybertruck gets here. i'm all in TSLA & i love all Elon Musk does & will keep doing..we've drove from California to Boca Chica to see the Star Ship & it was so awesome to see it getting built in person!! we have LOTS of SOLAR & backup battery system to charge them both
This is the best video describing the different variations over time.
Great advice. Thanks for posting.
No problem! You may also like a video we’ve done where we take an old model S on a day trip of over 500 miles. See our other recent videos.
what a great informational video! i wish we would have honest dealers like you here in US.
Holy grail of used Tesla videos👍
Great video You answered most of my questions as i am thinking of buying a Model S (used)
Good review lots of information I did not know about, however I am missing the important part on battery pack replacements.
Very awesome video! Thank you for all the work you did to make this valuable info available!
Greatly " served " information! Really appreciate it! If you had one of those with left steering, I would come and buy Tesla from you! You look very honest guy!
Great video, and definitely food for thought, just wish the finance companies realised these things don't depreciate as much as they think :p
