After a lifetime of driving ICE cars, I bought a Tesla Model 3 Long Range & I must say it’s the best car I’ve ever owned. I’ll never go back to a conventionally powered car!
I’ve had my Performance 3 for almost 2 years now. I’m shocked by how much I like it. I’ve owned a modified trans am, BMW 3 series, etc. I’ll never go back to gas except for maybe a toy/classic. (I do miss stick a little but 3 makes up for it)
@@ralphpurtscher-wydenbruck230 For an extra yeah, but, just use the card, you put the card near the B pillar and it's unlocked, put in the central console and now you can drive, not that hard.
People! People! People! That "Tesla Haters" bit was pure tongue-in-cheek. Rory is a clever guy and he picked the most inane and "first world problems" he could think of. I think he only did it so the Teslarati would start commenting.
Out of all the TH-cam car channels’ presenters, I personally think Rory is the best one and the car reviews are top notch! Keep up with the great work mate! ! 🙌🏼
In all my ICE cars, the bonnet (hood) was opened by pulling a lever at floor level in the passenger foot well. Reaching it from the drovers seat, you were likely to put your back out, or you had to get out and walk round the car, open the passenger door, then pull the lever - much easier !!??
@@stuartmcfarlane1652 Yeah, even in ICEs the bonnet release lever , for obvious automotive safety reason that appears to have been forgotten by the reviewer, is located in an hard to reach part of the car that is only accessible when a door is open.
Glass is different, but because of all of that and also the large wheels, I dunno why Tesla ever called this the electric car for all... The glass, big alloys and tires probably add like 5-10k to the price of the car during a lifetime.. I couldn't care for all the glass, just makes it echo-y..
The range difference is just the wheels. The AWD and the Performance are the same car, the Performance has some additional software and bigger wheels. The software doesn't effect the range it's just the performance wheels and tires, they trade-off effeciency for better acceleration. You asked why can't you have both, you can. When you want range just put 18" wheels on the car.
"Why i can't have the perfomance car with the Long Range range ?" because if you add aero drag (spoiler) and bigger 20" open wheels with sticky UHPT (from closed aero 18" ) it's impossible to achieve the same range , it's like pretending a M4 GTS to have the same MPG of a 440i. -No,the total boot space is (front+ rear ) is 542litres even the Which , that is very very scrupolous measured it at 499l , in normal use the model 3 has more rear boot space than the Jaguar i-Pace (that is rated at 650litres but measured 370) . -There is no physical button outside to open the frunk for obvious safety reasons! and inside the car it takes just two quick presses of the screen ,as quick as any other means to open the bonnet in an ICE or, if you are an *Apple Guy* and you want to use what you are familiar with, you can just ask siri to open the bonnet. -It is annoying that you have to unlock your phone to open the car, but i bet it would be more annoying having the car stolen by a relay attack that, the model 3 ,is immune thanks to its system. -And again while the tablet it's not the most immediate and manually certain things like the wipers , changing the climate or radio station can be more challenging on the move, on the other hand you can do all this stuff without looking or touching the screen by simply using the voice commands, that on tesla works brilliantly. -Totally agree about the lack of steering wheel.
They still have a steering wheel but maybe not for much longer :O) - I agree no steering wheel heater is a strange omission. Especially as it is a good energy saver and reduces the need to have the blowers on in winter (like the heated seats do). There are many after market tail gate and frunk auto openers and closers too but this should possibly be at least an option to purchase.
No vehicle will get the same range with larger wheels. You'd think this guy would know that. All you need to do is put 18" wheels on the Performance and you'll get the same range...problem solved.
Flip the car ?? Model 3 have the lowest possibility of rollover, not to mention even if you flip it glass is much stronger thus absorb a lot more energy during impact.
I don't think he meant it literally. If you drive the Model 3 Performance at it's limit then you will understand what he means. The car feels like it's pushing the limit of physics at that point and the driver will feel like they are gonna flip over.
Yeah exactly what I was thinking: Rory just assumed that it will smash easily because it's glass, without researching what a crazy amount of force that roof can actually take! Otherwise an excellent video though.
Safety tests have also proven that Tesla's glass roofs are durable, with the Model 3's roof withstanding over 20,000 lbs of force during the NHTSA's evaluation.11 Mar 2020
I think Rory has 100% found his game, really enjoying these videos, and you’re not splitting 10 good and 10 bad things into separate videos like some other car channels...Wow 😁
The glass roof can actually support more than twice the weight of the car. There are videos on TH-cam that show accidents with overturned Model 3s and the roof did always hold. If there would have been one cave in you can be sure that it would have been reported in all major media. I 'd really like to know what engineering magic they cast there... You can open the frunk from the screen inside the car, but you have to be in P for that. The car not opening when the phone is in your back pocket has to do with the electromagntic frequency of Bluetooth being partially blocked by water. Humans are basically bags filled with 75% of water. So depending on how you stand in relation to the antenna in the car (which to my knowledge is somewhere in or near the driver side mirror) your body might block the Bluetooth signal enough so that it won't open. I remedied that by either taking my phone out while walking towards the car, because I want to connect it to the charging port in the car anyways, or I put it in a front pocket if possible (mostly if I only have a very short drive...). Yes it's a bit annoying but I got so accustomed to the remedies that I rarely think about it... I have mine 15 months now and it is by far the best and most fun car I've owned and surprisingly cheap in ownership cost.
@Seawolf Make sure you have persistent notifications turned on if you're using an Android phone. That helps the app stay connected with the car. This is mentioned in some of the Tesla forums too.
also you can just open frunk with apple watch idk what kinda phone that dude had but everybody should have apple watch these days... it can measure your heart beat and warn you about your health.
Nice review, Rory. This is pretty much my car - M3P, RHD, blue with white seats. I got it last December and it has been amazing. A few points: 1. The colour balance on the camera seems to be a bit off. The blue looks much better in person (the short grab with the iPhone in the middle of the video was more true to life). 2. Many functions can be accessed with voice commands, so there is really no need to scroll through lots of submenus. 3. The glass in the roof is extremely tough. When they were testing the roof with a machine that applies tonnes of pressure, the machine broke before the roof did. With its low centre of gravity, thanks to those in floor batteries, there is a very low chance of roll over. 4. Once you pair your phone to the car and leave bluetooth on, you can just walk up to the car with the phone in your pocket and it will unlock for you. When you walk away, it locks itself. I have never had a problem with this. 5. The boot opening is fine. I have been on long drives with plenty of luggage and it is easy to pack and unpack. Opening and closing the boot manually is also fine. 6. I have never had or wanted a heated steering wheel, but maybe that's just me. 7. I think the seats are incredibly comfortable. 8. Some of the things you didn't; specifically mention: regular over the air updates, charging up to 250 kW, dash cam, Sentry mode, awesome sound system, very responsive touch screen, clear maps with traffic and excellent navigation.
Haven't got it yet (but one day I will!), but I love the blue exterior/white interior combination. Especially combined with they grey performance wheels and the red brake calipers.
Hi Ethan, only had it since Dec 2019 but the seats are fine. No discolouration or wear yet. I wear blue jeans - no issue. I was also concerned that the white dash would be distracting too, but it is angled so that it doesn't catch the light too much. Occasionally I notice a bit of reflection but it is not really distracting. There is some tire noise (and wind noise for that matter) but I think it is noticeable just because there is minimal noise from the motor (it does have a soft, pleasant, futuristic noise when you accelerate). I think the ride is firm but not really an issue.
@@lupyana So can steel, titanium, concrete and even diamonds. It's not a unik thing only glass does. So don't know where your going with that one, it's really dumb to say.
@@lupyana even broken, the glass is way stronger than conventional car roofs, people don't realize how thin a car roof actually is, its like thick paper
That's not a Tesla thing, though. Marines have always joked that they'd love to drive around Iraq in a Wonder Woman Humvee because the glass was so much better than the armor.
As an owner my biggest pet peeve is the lack of blind spot monitoring on the mirrors. This is a logical no brainer, you look where traffic is not the screen, mirror, shoulder, then change lanes. It also has the benefit of letting other drivers know that they're in your blindspot. Otherwise aside from some minor build issues here and there, the car is phenomenal.
In order to flip this car, you would need to do something abnormally stupid or daring anyway. Due to the large battery pack, the center of gravity is much lower than in similarly sized ICE cars. Also the Model 3 has a 5-Star, 96% EU rating, so even in the unlikely event of a full rollover, the cabin remains intact.
@Dan Moyer Is the roof T-rex proof? I once saw a T-rex crash through a glass roof... just saying. It's always funny how people imagine these scenarios where practically 100% of them require extraordinary circumstances far outside of even typical reckless driving. If you fire your car off a cliffside... something went severely wrong prior to the car not protecting you from falling off a mountain. lol
About the glass. It's built in a similar way bullet proof glass is made, with layers of glass. Some that fracture to absorb the impact, and flexible layers to keep the rest held together. Tesla's glass is so strong it broke the crushing machine designed to measure roof strength for roll overs. And it is the world's safest car. So safe it broke the safety star scale and got over 5 out of 5 stars.
Great review Rory, but there are a few inaccuracies in here including car locking, roof strength, frunk/trunk opening. There's no mention of the pan-European Tesla SuperCharger network (a fabulous and rapidly growing feature if you want to travel long distances) or the regular over-the-air software updates that improve the car as it gets older. Aesthetics are always subjective and I love my Model 3 Performance from all angles, but I do see your point about the frog! The performance is blistering, the ride is sporty but not too harsh (I like that!), the internal space is more than adequate both for occupants and for luggage, the range is excellent (real world, about 280 miles), the feature-packed big screen is easily mastered within a day or two, the driver/passenger comfort is unmatched in my previous Audis and BMWs, it's one of the safest cars on the road by all crash standards, and its economy is about 4 to 5 times better than any of my previous cars. I'll concede that the build quality, although adequate, doesn't yet match the main German car manufacturers and, yes, you do have to spend several hundred pounds on a home charger for the best user experience, but the government allow for £500 OLEV grant, which eases the initial layout. Oh, and there's zero road tax. That's £0.00 every year! It was a bit of a leap of faith going from ICE to electric and a further jump selecting Tesla, but they're moves I'm so glad I made. I'm certain I could not have bought a more pleasing car for the money anywhere.
The Tesla Model 3 outsold the Honda Civic, Toyota Camry, Honda Accord and Toyota RAV4 in the first quarter of 2020 to make it the best selling car in California. One reason why is because it's a much better car. Another reason why is because it has 1/3 to 1/4 the operating costs due to being an EV. Drive one.
@@dimitariliyanov3680 You really do need to get factual infomation before posting rubbish Tesla model 3 was actually best selling car in Norway in 2019, with 15,683 sold as of January 2020 electrek.co/2020/01/03/56-norway-cars-plug-in-2019-tesla-model-3-best-overall/#:~:text=The%20Model%203%20itself%20had,started%20selling%20there%20in%202010.
Yup... Let's say all supercharger is made by gm and tesla don't have one. I'll be buying a bolt. As great of a car it is. Charging infrastructure is a must
It's not as big an advantage in the UK (or most of Europe, as far as I can tell). The supercharger network isn't as good here as in the states, the alternative charging networks are decent, and most importantly, people just don't drive that far most of the time.
And navigation software which knows and calculate the range perfectly...divert you to the closest SUC....( But he is a Iphone boy...so he need the worst navigation sw 😂)
In UK Model 3 has a CCS charging port, so it can be charged using public fast charging stations or Superchargers. So it's purely an advantage for Tesla.
@@Antcarhuman Nah it's a little harder to do simple functions like change the volume and stuff like that compared to other cars with physical buttons. I'm not saying it's bad or anything, but he is true when he said that the touchscreen and lack of buttons is a bit more difficult and will take more time to get used to.
Two wrong point in the list of 10 listed. Request the reviewer to know the feature a bit more properly before commenting on that. 1.Car has a auto lock and unlock feature. If you walk away it will lock itself and when you come back and open door it auto unlocks. No need to use the phone to lock or unlock, unless user wants a different behaviour. E.g. keep car unlocked even after phone has gone far away. 2. To open the front boot and rear boot there are buttons on screen . So pretty much how one opens a bonnet on ice car. No need to use mobile phone app for this as well. The button appears when car is in park. Other points are valid. There are some workarounds for some of those. E.g. you can pre heat the car and thus have steering wheel heated. Or you can direct the air flow to steering and that heats it up.
Not just those, the glass roof is safer than a metal one because it absorbs a way more energy as it breaks than a metal roof, making it actually safer. It's also laminated safety glass so you don't have to worry about getting cut in the event of a rollover.
But theres points he didnt mention like the poor quality it have over german rivals.... we just recieved Model 3, and wing feels like its gonna come out (you can actually pull it easily), the plastics feel cheap inside and very blank car makes you understand why its cheap, also the paint have very bad finish to it and need to do proper detailing, some of features dont work always, they should have at least put head up display so you dont need to look into this huge screen for speeds and navigation...... Good car dont get me wrong and I think its worth it but not excellent or perfect, for the price I could get M340i which will get me nearly all features tesla have + nearly same performance but a proper gasoline engine and BMW quality
Not entirely accurate. He was trying to open the rear passenger side door, which I've also found often will not open easily if your phone is in your pocket.
@@TRX25EX Like you said "but a proper gasoline engine" That makes the car band from many cites already with many more soon. Also ULEZ. Also, any cites with clear air zones, which is almost every city and town starting later this year. Very thirsty on fuel. The frunk can be opened from the screen with one press, but you can buy a keyfob (£140 mini model 3) and press the frunk button if knobs are you thing 👍 Good review, great car.
Rory's transitioned from 'normal bloke' to 'motor journalist'. When reviewers start to comment on things like electric boots then you know they've left the reality we live in and now inhabit the 100k plus luxury market as their go to reference.
What about a shorter person or a disabled person who uses a wheel chair? Not everyone has good height and can walk. Not very 21st century and odd for an electric car 😂
Wow, I know this has been said but wow. The roof is stronger, range decrease is because of the bigger wheels, there is a frunk open button on the screen in the car. If you’re going to review a car learn about it first.
@@DnBDubstepManiak1 dude use your head! you still have a trunk!!! Tell me which car has a remote hood? None!! All of them you need to enter your car and pull the lever. The model 3:has both using your phone or inside the car, which means you are complain about having more options lol
The seats are hard? Are you kidding? They're amazingly soft. The most comfortable seats I've been in. I have zero ass, and I'm quite particular about seats.
Yea that is ridiculous, I rented an A4 for a week in LA. The most memorable part of that trip was getting back to my Tesla. The Tesla seats are like a recliner compared to the Audi.
No. No it is not. Every time I get in my M3 I resent the sound system and long for the premium stereo in my Mondeo. I have installed full systems in cars too, trust me it's far from great. It's okay. It has no stereo image, no separation and it's clearly missing in the lower-mid/upper-bass. I spent days playing with the completely useless 5 band eq. It can't be improved. Also the glass roof is one of the PROBLEMS, not the benefits! Highly reflective surfaces are the worst possible issue in a good stereo. Do they cover the walls of cinemas in fabric for reflectivity? No. Do home cinema amplifiers use complicated algorithms to remove unwanted reflections? To summarise, it's okay, but don't expect to be blown away unless you're used to very basic car stereos.
Any car at that price range usually has a proximity sensor that senses the arrival of the key holder and unlocks when the person is in range. I think that's what he is complaining about.
This is a ridiculous complaint. The vehicle automatically locks and unlocks every time I walk away or approach the car without me having to touch my phone, a fob, key card, etc. It just works. If your phone's BT is turned off or not behaving, or the vehicle's BT is turned off, then yes you can't use your phone's proximity to auto lock/unlock.
Been watching Carwow for years and never thought I'd see a reviewer that could compete but your proving me wrong. Great detail in a concise video with an entertaining reviewer. 😊
I like him but many inaccuracies and misrepresentations. The roof is the strongest of any car and its very hard to flip. There is a button for the Frunk right on the main screen one press. The car locks and unlocks automatically as you leave and approach, you hardly ever have to touch the app for it. If you want a tail lifting hatchback with a huge opening then you want a Model Y. Too many more to type!
Rory Reid- Your reviewing style is a breath of fresh air! I hope you get all the recognition- after years of reviewers/ journalists talking to viewers as if we are all nerdy robots, or boffins... Top marks!!!
I'm with him on the boot. It's way harder to close than it should be. One of the rare annoying things about the car along with the piano black center console.
Some amazing shots & great review! ⚡️ Just quickly on some of your points, use voice commands to do simple task like opening the glove box. You lose range due to the alloys and performance setup so it’s impossible to get the long range as it’s the same battery, unless you changed alloys and took away the power output. The glass roof is safer than a metal one BY FAR so if it flipped this is the car you want to be sat in. You can unlock the trunk and frunk from the menu on the screen or voice commands. Aftermarket mods are available for electric truck and frunk if its too heavy for you 😂
So this is my 1st opportunity to see one of your videos & I’m giving you 2 thumbs up because I absolutely loved your presentation & your accent helped a little too! LOL! I’ve had the opportunity to visit various places in England over my career & it’s always a bit uncomfortable seeing folks driving on the left side of the highway as opposed to how we drive in the states which is on the right side! I also love the great shots you got & the fact that you decided to film it in a beautiful picturesque countryside added a nice touch that’s missing in some of the other videos I’ve watched covering Tesla’s cars! So I will let your critics tell you what you got wrong & there were a few things! I purchased my Tesla model 3 back in 2018 & I can tell you I absolutely love the car! I came from a Subaru legacy with all the bells & whistle‘s & I mean all the bells & whistle‘s & it’s a great car in fact it was my 2nd Subaru & they’re just great cars & so I love the Subaru’s, but it’s not a Tesla! Also I appreciate the fact that you spoke about the 2 braking systems which most people leave out of their reviews for some reason & that’s a great benefit that doesn’t get talked about enough as far as I’m concerned & the one thing I will mention thstbyou left out your video was the over the air updates, that’s an awesome benefit & I don’t know of no other competing car manufacturer that offers that to its customers, so for me it’s hands-down nothing like the Tesla cars & I am particularly partial to the Model 3! I am currently considering whether not I will trade in my model 3 for the model Y! So once again great video thanks for posting it!👍🏾👍🏾
Man, I love watching your reviews... Regardless of some untrue things like frunk button, glass strength & forgot about sound quality, the practicality of rear seats & some other stuff compared to not so minimalist cars, I loved the way you presented everything!!
As to the frunk; there certainly is a "button" inside the car. It's on the screen when the car is in park; look at the picture of the car and there are buttons for the frunk, trunk, and charge port door. I would like to see a sensor at the frunk that when triggered and the phone key is sensed, pops the frunk, but you are factually inaccurate about no button (I guess you are right in that there is no PHYSICAL button; but there is a button.)
I would not put it past Tesla to add sound, inside and out. Noise can be injected into the cabin via the audio speakers (many cars already do this like the BMW i8) and there are external speakers that will eventually be deployed for countries where EVs are required by law to make low speed noise to warn pedestrians. The pedestrians that aren't staring down at their phones with air pods jammed into their ears.
I’m pretty sure that glass roof is extremely strong, and you’re actually not likely to flip this car since the bulk of all its weight is at the bottom. Most EVs are actually very resistant to flipping. As usual, the pros of this vehicle are the important things like safety, speed and range, supercharging network, handling, and price, etc. And the cons are very minor gripes like listed at the end of this video. Sounds like they nailed the important stuff to me.
I own a M3P 2020 white on white with FSD. And gotta say it’s the best car I have ever owned and I have had Bmw m3 ands c43 amg and this is the best by far and keeps getting better through updates. If your thinking of getting one get it now...
Agree. Model 3 Performance is a great car in every way. It's smoother, quicker and far more efficient than a BMW M3 or AMG C. Also far more modern and technologically advanced, but in an easy to use way. I suggest people drive one for themselves.
Rory needs to do some research before claiming one of the safest cars in a rollover crash would give you a bad day in a crash! Not the first time he's been lazy in a review. . . .
A Tesla gives you a lot more bad days in case of an accident because of the long time you have to wait to get it fixed and if you don't have a approved repair shop close to your location that also means another bad day.
@@sbstn110 may be most insurance provide a rental car while the car is being fixed. I don't know, use insurance to fix the car and they provide a rental?
The "button" you are searching for inside for the frunk is RIGHT THERE on the display - the car icon shows the "button" for the frunk, the trunk and the energy port. You might check your bluetooth settings on your cellphone to see if it's communicating with the car.

@@Muleyasama I don't think so, the Tesla M3 as a package is a decade in the making, legacy auto don't have that package mentality (vertical integration). They are going to struggle massively to catch up.
@@lucwal67 no other electric car regardless of cost is still to beat a 2012 model S. For me that's a sign that Tesla are miles ahead, especially when You consider that the newest model S is even better. Wait until Tesla battery day. It's game over for ford etc. Tesla will drive the cost down to a level they won't be able to complete with.
Tesla is also about to own the SUV segment with the Model Y, which is largely based on the Model 3, but taller and a bit longer. One decade behind is a good estimate. For example the Porsche Taycan cannot simultaneously meet the price, range or performance of the original 2012 Tesla Model S. That puts them about 10 years behind. Tesla Model 3 is even harder to compete with due to battery economies of scale, experience effects, etc.
Good review, but some claims were just totally inaccurate, such as no button in the car to unlock the frunk, the way the phone key locks and unlocks the car, etc. Poor research let’s this review down.
@Marco Deo come on bro! seriously? if u said 8 secs i'd buy it, but 12 to 60? there must be some serious issues going on with it cuz thats beyond way off
I’m over 70 and don’t really like computers much and I adapted to the model 3 so easily and quickly. It’s very intuitive and after owning nearly 100 ice cars in my life, I will never go back to an ice car.
Poor old Harry struggled to find much to moan about with the Model 3 too. He eventually went off on one about coal powered stations meaning EVs are are as dirty as one month in China or something.
As to the glass roof; it;'s laminated glass so pieces are likely to be contained and is incredibly strong. "During testing, the car’s roof was able to successfully resist more than 20,000 pounds of force - that’s more than if we placed five Model 3s on top of the car’s roof at once."* I don't know the strength of a more typical metal car roof (and I'm sure there's quite a range) but I'll bet that the Model 3's roof matches up favorably by comparison to others. This in combination with the very low center of gravity that makes it far less likely to roll onto the roof than other cars makes this design a significant strength rather than a weakness as characterized. *www.tesla.com/blog/model-3-earns-2019-iihs-top-safety-pick-award
Don't over complicate things. There's voice command to open the glovebox. Also there's only 2 hits to open glovebox (car, glovebox). Most things are automatic. The wife and I never have to touch the seat adjustments. It's set after delivery day and it knows who's getting into the car to drive
I got delivery of my Model 3 in October 2019 and you never get bored of the 0-60 in 5 seconds. Also everyonee stares at your car and for some reason little kids know about Tesla the most. haha
Great video! Worth highlighting some other points to prospective buyers: - There are aftermarket kits available to make both trunk and frunk automatic, if this is a deal breaker. - I wouldn’t say the UI of screen is complicated, a lot of features (like opening the glovebox) can be done using your voice. You get used to it very quickly (not 2 or 3 dozen years!) - You can open the frunk from the car. Other things I love: - Free over the air software updates which continuously give you new features, the car gets better over time. - It costs me less than 1p per mile in fuel when combined with the right energy tariff. - Words can’t explain the performance, it’s mind blowing. Could list so many more but these are just quickly off the top of my head!
You don’t need to take your phone out of your pocket to lock or unlock the doors. It automatically unlocks when you approach the car and automatically locks when you walk away. It’s very seamless. Your demonstration is flawed.
Honestly when my phone is in my back pocket I have to twist around like I’m about to grind on my car to get it to register so I just started putting my phone in my front pocket when I’m walking to the car. 2023 M3P.
@10:45 cause, you know, flipping this car is easy... also rated the best for safety including flips... also when are you having a good day when you flip your car?
Car only opening from the app : you need to turn on the option to "open your car automatically with the phone key", and then it will open automatically and lock automatically.
Great review! Only just found this channel. There is a 'button' for the frunk by the way. It's on the display but only when you're in 'Park'. A lot of people don't use the lock feature from the app but instead use their phone as a key which means it locks when you walk away and then unlocks when you walk up. Like you said, all things that take time with the car to figure out.
11:47 Again, WRONG! There is a button on the touchscreen to open the frunk. Also, you're closing it wrong. You're not supposed to slam it and press the T logo. You're supposed to use both hands and press on both sides of the T logo without touching the logo.
There is a button in the car to unlock the front. And the car auto locks when you walk away; you don't have to lock it with your phone. Plus the unlock issue when you're nearby has been fixed.
Model 3 is very unlikely to flip with the low center of gravity. Even if you do find a way to flip it, the roof is extremely strong. It broke the government machine that tested the strength of the roof. Model 3 is one of the safest cars you can buy.
Yeah, I’ve got some gripes too. Our SR+ takes a whole 5.3 seconds to get to 60 mph. Who’s it designed for...Mary Poppins? I can sprint a wheel barrow faster. The wife and I can’t understand why this thing keeps burning off Audis, BMWs and Jags...they must be having a bad day or something. How can a ‘squashed frog’ handle this well? And I’m right with you, why can’t you close the console storage lid with a mallet? It pisses me off!
I think you will find your SR+ is a bit faster now after the DEC19 Xmas update. The SR+ was given a new acceleration and motor output profile via OTA, adding around 5% to the power and increasing the acceleration at higher speeds. I don't know for sure but the SR+ should now be knocking on just 5 seconds 0-60.
A lot of the features in the menu can be controlled with voice commands. Opening the glovebox just push the steering wheel button and say “open the glove box”. There are over 100 commands now. Also if set up as the key to the car your phone will lock and unlock your car as you walk away or to the car.
@@jameslove888 You don't need to do lots of stuff when driving. Change temp..right there on the main screen. Autopilot? Just use the gear stalk and the scoll wheels. Turn the music up? Use the scroll wheels. Looking for music to play is a breeze and not more difficult than any other system out there. Maybe even easier.
The touch screen is very easy to use, but almost all of the controls actually used while driving are on steering wheel stalks or buttons, The touchscreen gets almost no use during actual driving.
The writing is small on the tablet, which is strange for a car. It's not an iPad it's a car screen. Why is everything so small. Wish they made the software more user friendly with larger buttons and text
@ 10:47, the glass roof is actually stronger and holds better than the metal/alloy roof so in the event of a flip over it is quite safer for passengers in the cabin.
I personally drive a BMW now. but. I would chose the Tesla any day over the 3 series. they coming on the same price. BMW stays as you bought it and ages quite bad (as every other car) Tesla gets software updates, and gets "better". or shall we say it is way more future proof than any other cars. and devaluation is not such extreme as ice cars. So I might sign up for one, once I decide where I want to live. :D
@@JBoy340a it doesn't seem to worth the price. I don't really care about the journalist cry either that assembly quality blah blah blah... especially worked as a QA engineer for automotives long enough... :D
I compared the 3 series with the Model 3 here in the UK and they are not even similar on price. The BMW is way more expensive to even approach the same specs as the SR+. the gap reduces somewhat if you go for the higher performing vehicles.
What if the “ipad pro” stops working (because its a tablet after all!) ? Whats the plan b? Or should u just guess what speed you going and just hope for the best!!!
Apparently he is weak, that closing a manual trunk lid is difficult. And then he complained about the trunk opening was too small. I don't of any trunk opening that isn't small, because they're not a hatchback. Model Y, problem solved.
I know a reasonable amount about Teslas, so I was interested to hear Rory's take here. If there were a few things I'd highlight that could be misleading to people unfamiliar with Tesla cars, these are not differences of opinion but choice of language I would say: 2:08 Correct, it's not a hatchback, but is the boot opening "really small"... for a saloon? I don't think it is, and it was a criticism that Tesla addressed after the unveiling of the Model 3 because this was everybody's primary concern. I feel like you mean it's small compared to if it were a hatchback. But if you compared it with its peers (let's say a BMW 3-series or Audi A4?) I'd just like to have heard "compared to..." 3:11 It's definitely not a sunroof. It's just a glass roof. It doesn't open, and I think people might think from this comment that it does. It doesn't. 3:35 I understand the tablet comparison, but if you tell people it's a "centrally mounted tablet" that sounds like it's a tablet. And that it's removable. And a security nightmare. And that people would think "where am I going to keep that tablet that's secure and convenient?" - it's just a centre screen. Sure it's LIKE a tablet, in as much as it's about the same size, it's touchscreen and it operates similarly... but it's a screen. 10:45 Possibly the worst piece sadly, the Model 3 has the highest safety rating of any car ever. The double laminated glass roof is held in compression and tension, and is tougher than a thin sheet of steel on other cars. In fact, I'm very surprised you didn't mention safety one time apart from this, because for all the other praise you gave this car, it's definitely worth noting - even in a short comment - that you're also buying the safest car available. Oh, and you said you feel like you're very likely to flip this car. It's SO difficult to flip any Tesla because of the low centre-of-gravity from the battery pack. Even the Model X SUV is practically impossible to flip because the COG is below the axels. 11:18 "You control most features on this car using the app" (which isn't true) but at 3:40 you literally said the centre screen "controls almost everything" and that you have to navigate through various menus and sub-menus. So you actually control "some" features through the app, and by comparison to the number of features the car has, it's barely any. Certainly not "most". 11:45 Yes, you can unlock the trunk without using the phone, there's a control on the screen for that inside the car, as you'd expect. This guy explains... th-cam.com/video/Vrg6YE8K7lY/w-d-xo.html But... I do agree, it's far from perfect. But where you mention Tesla has room to improve, you didn't mention that Tesla (unlike all other car companies) can improve and add a lot of features through over-the-air software updates. Not everything of course, some physical issues need manufacturing changes, and Tesla is by far the most agile car company at making continuous improvements to manufacturing, fixing issues and adding features to cars that roll off the line. Overall a good review though. I'm really just questioning the use of SOME language which I think is misleading. Shame.
I would have loved a heated steering wheel as an option - it would also have reduced the need to use the blowers to heat the car, helping the range in winter. I hope Tesla decide to offer certain things like this as an aftermarket upgrade. I know many companies in the USA offer replacement automated struts for the frunk and trunk that open and close, for just a few hundred dollars.
No one is going to talk about that sick transition? 3:32
What about this transition 7:34

After a lifetime of driving ICE cars, I bought a Tesla Model 3 Long Range & I must say it’s the best car I’ve ever owned. I’ll never go back to a conventionally powered car!
That’s awesome!
i’m glad for you. my hopes are to be able to save up and get their model 3, or whatever new comes out later once i can afford it
@goodfella21f how
I’ve had my Performance 3 for almost 2 years now. I’m shocked by how much I like it. I’ve owned a modified trans am, BMW 3 series, etc. I’ll never go back to gas except for maybe a toy/classic. (I do miss stick a little but 3 makes up for it)

I've had my Model 3 for 6 months now. Incredible car, I've been converted and can't see me looking back now.
3:32 was an incredible transition you've gained a new subscription for.
2 features he got wrong:
1st - their is a button to open the frunk on the internal console
2nd - the app automatically opens and locks the car
The glass roof is also stronger than a conventional roof :)
4. A standard keyfob is available

People! People!
The frunk can be opened from main screen
In no more than 2 clicks, Car Symbol > Glovebox
@@Gr33nMamba he said frunk. It's literally one click.
In all my ICE cars, the bonnet (hood) was opened by pulling a lever at floor level in the passenger foot well. Reaching it from the drovers seat, you were likely to put your back out, or you had to get out and walk round the car, open the passenger door, then pull the lever - much easier !!??
He is dumb
@@stuartmcfarlane1652 Yeah, even in ICEs the bonnet release lever , for obvious automotive safety reason that appears to have been forgotten by the reviewer, is located in an hard to reach part of the car that is only accessible when a door is open.
Forgot to mention that it’s all voice controlled, air, seat warmers, fans everything or maybe you didn’t know
No buttons is a huge turn-off for me. I prefer knobs personally, not talking to my car. But to each his own
That glass roof is actually safer than an ordinary metal roof
It’s true. You beat me to it
Glass is different, but because of all of that and also the large wheels, I dunno why Tesla ever called this the electric car for all...
Correct about the glass roof being stronger and safer. Also, with the low center of gravity, the chance of rolling any Tesla is extremely low.
Funny a story about how strong the glass roof is just came out. www.teslarati.com/tesla-model-s-glass-roof-black-lives-matter-rally-video/amp/
-Totally agree about the lack of steering wheel.
for the phone unlocking part, I thought you just need bluetooth connected and walk up to it? that's how it works for me.
@@ronaldquan8007 the issue is having the phone in your back pocket. This is a common problem for many phones and it's not the cars fault.
No vehicle will get the same range with larger wheels. You'd think this guy would know that. All you need to do is put 18" wheels on the Performance and you'll get the same range...problem solved.
The motors in the performance model actually draw a higher voltage, which is why you get reduced range
Flip the car ?? Model 3 have the lowest possibility of rollover, not to mention even if you flip it glass is much stronger thus absorb a lot more energy during impact.
Yeah very bad researched tbh .. Sad.
I don't think he meant it literally. If you drive the Model 3 Performance at it's limit then you will understand what he means. The car feels like it's pushing the limit of physics at that point and the driver will feel like they are gonna flip over.
@menachem 5780 lol, I think they were referring to the reviewer ;-)
If you have your phone in your back pocket, just turn your butt towards the car a bit and it will open just fine.

A few points:
The glass in the car is 3x stronger than a metal roof.
Truth!
Glass is glass, and glass can break
That glass can withstand 22k lb so in case the rare chance ur car flips over thanks to the heavy battery at the bottom the glass wont cave in
In order to flip this car, you would need to do something abnormally stupid or daring anyway.
If you fire your car off a cliffside... something went severely wrong prior to the car not protecting you from falling off a mountain. lol
You DON'T have to navigate thru menus for glove box, voice command can open it! Along with any other function like heated seats!

Don't worry people, Rory is actually saying "believe the hype,"
I was a bit disappointed with the snub nose at the reveal, but they toned it down for production and i think it looks great.
I too expected a more accurate review from this channel.

Very impressive
The Tesla Model 3 outsold the Honda Civic, Toyota Camry, Honda Accord and Toyota RAV4 in the first quarter of 2020 to make it the best selling car in California. One reason why is because it's a much better car. Another reason why is because it has 1/3 to 1/4 the operating costs due to being an EV.

Lol. Butthurt Elon girlfriends whining. Suck it up. This car isn't perfect.
I have app on my Garmin watch to open my frunk...or cool down my car...so many things not fully covered in this review 😂👍

Did he just say when he locks his car then tries to open the door it's locked? Then said that's annoying? lol

This is a ridiculous complaint. The vehicle automatically locks and unlocks every time I walk away or approach the car without me having to touch my phone, a fob, key card, etc. It just works. If your phone's BT is turned off or not behaving, or the vehicle's BT is turned off, then yes you can't use your phone's proximity to auto lock/unlock.

yeah this guy is great
I like him but many inaccuracies and misrepresentations.
Agree, despite a few errors, Rory did a great review. He gets much of the spirit of the car and its benefits correct.
Rory Reid- Your reviewing style is a breath of fresh air! I hope you get all the recognition- after years of reviewers/ journalists talking to viewers as if we are all nerdy robots, or boffins... Top marks!!!
"Manual Boot Lid". The Humanity!
Oh Lawd, how are we going to survive? lol
Luckily there are aftermarket electric systems to end the suffering.
I'm with him on the boot. It's way harder to close than it should be. One of the rare annoying things about the car along with the piano black center console.
Easily the best Model 3 review I’ve seen yet, and one of the best hosts I’ve seen on TH-cam in recent years. Brilliant work!
Aftermarket mods are available for electric truck and frunk if its too heavy for you 😂
Que barbaridad
So once again great video thanks for posting it!👍🏾👍🏾
3:31 that is inception right there, awesome
No engine roar though
Can the add HEMI sound?
I would not put it past Tesla to add sound, inside and out. Noise can be injected into the cabin via the audio speakers (many cars already do this like the BMW i8) and there are external speakers that will eventually be deployed for countries where EVs are required by law to make low speed noise to warn pedestrians. The pedestrians that aren't staring down at their phones with air pods jammed into their ears.

If U R not part of the Gang, you have no business here, Lotion-Man/Woman/RatherNotTell😎
You quickly became my favorite car reviewer.
Removing buttons enables update of features. If you have a labelled button, you are stuck with it...
@Marco Deo Model 3 Performance
You should have done your homework on the glass roof. It’s much safer and stronger than a metal roof.
@@sbstn110 everyone would accept that if the car saved your life. And most likely it did, cuz its safe af.
@@sbstn110 may be most insurance provide a rental car while the car is being fixed. I don't know, use insurance to fix the car and they provide a rental?
@@jasonyu8290 Apparently Enterprise ( I think ) will do you a rental Model S while your car is in the shop.
The "button" you are searching for inside for the frunk is RIGHT THERE on the display - the car icon shows the "button" for the frunk, the trunk and the energy port. You might check your bluetooth settings on your cellphone to see if it's communicating with the car.
whyhyyy do you force me to subscribe i had to at this point after watching over five different high quality videos from this channel. amazing work!
Welcome to the club!
@@AutoTraderTV I gladly enter it. I predict your channel will have over a million subs by the end of the year, easy if you keep uploading videos like you've been doing now. dont fall under the pressure to upload too much though, as viewers I think we value the quality, and crisp nature of your content so please never compromise that for anything!
Superb video, narration, and editing! Well done! I also own a P3D -- absolutely love the car.
Absolutely great review Rory! Loved it. I feel the reviews are getting better with each video, a really tall order since each video is this good!
You don’t need to navigate through the buttons, there are voice commands also for everything including the glove box. It’s super easy
Tesla owns that segment, every other maker is a decade behind and that’s a very long time for both cars and tech.
A decade is a stretch.
@@Muleyasama I don't think so, the Tesla M3 as a package is a decade in the making, legacy auto don't have that package mentality (vertical integration). They are going to struggle massively to catch up.
to be fair their vehicle are a faire bit more expensive. Can't really compare a Zoe or a Leaf to a 60 000£ Tesla model 3
Where was this filmed though?
We already know it wasn't UK, because of the sunshine. :(
Good review, but some claims were just totally inaccurate, such as no button in the car to unlock the frunk, the way the phone key locks and unlocks the car, etc. Poor research let’s this review down.
Very poor research.
6:56 "0-60 in 3.2 seconds... It's so savage it actually hurts"
@Marco Deo come on bro! seriously? if u said 8 secs i'd buy it, but 12 to 60? there must be some serious issues going on with it cuz thats beyond way off
Best car reviewer?
Rory, Chris Harris and Matt Watson would be a nice Top Gear trio.
Definitely one of the best. Up there with Harris in my opinion
And It’s not even closed
Harry’s Garage for me, he’s absolutely knows his Cars and doesn’t have to shout bullet points at you.
Harry has a strange take on EV’s though, yes he is tops otherwise
I’m over 70 and don’t really like computers much and I adapted to the model 3 so easily and quickly. It’s very intuitive and after owning nearly 100 ice cars in my life, I will never go back to an ice car.
@ 3:34 best transition in the history of visual media. 😎
Are you in Harry's back yard? I recognise the roads of the Cotswolds
Todd Wright the glass roof is indeed stronger than an aluminum roof and a lot safer not even mentioning the low rollover risk
Oh my god I’m dying!! The part where he shows how softly you have to shut the damn center console in order for it to close had me LOLing 😂
Blackberry loves this guy. Buttons rule! lol
To each his own. The screen is the main reason I'm not interested in a Tesla. Knobs are better IMO
Just wondering why not having a heated steering wheel is a bad thing? Does anyone's steerwheel get so cold it's uncomfortable to drive?
Don't over complicate things. There's voice command to open the glovebox. Also there's only 2 hits to open glovebox (car, glovebox). Most things are automatic. The wife and I never have to touch the seat adjustments. It's set after delivery day and it knows who's getting into the car to drive
Basically infinite number of saved user settings for all the adjustments is an amazing feature...
does it work if you both get in at the same time though? i.e does it know who is getting in the driver side?
Does anyone know if I could fit my two border terriers in the boot? Does the parcel shelf come away and can a dog guard be fitted? 🙏🏻
11:45... “there’s no button inside the car” to open the frunk, there’s a button on the screen. Nice to see you were struggling to find fault though 😉
I use a third party app and can use Siri from my watch for all those types of functions.
Paul Evans what app please Paul. Thanks
Look up statsapp..... for ios. great app
I got delivery of my Model 3 in October 2019 and you never get bored of the 0-60 in 5 seconds. Also everyonee stares at your car and for some reason little kids know about Tesla the most. haha
Rory is absolutely amazing, every video he makes is unbelievably enjoyable
Great video! Worth highlighting some other points to prospective buyers:
- There are aftermarket kits available to make both trunk and frunk automatic, if this is a deal breaker.
- I wouldn’t say the UI of screen is complicated, a lot of features (like opening the glovebox) can be done using your voice. You get used to it very quickly (not 2 or 3 dozen years!)
- You can open the frunk from the car.
Other things I love:
- Free over the air software updates which continuously give you new features, the car gets better over time.
4:28 "2-3 dozen years". Lol.
Yeah, found that one funny too
Slight exaggeration 😄
it takes a person 1 day to learn the screen. Unless you are an experienced boomer.
My Greek no speaking English mother HOW to convince her? HELP me please people
11:47 Again, WRONG! There is a button on the touchscreen to open the frunk. Also, you're closing it wrong. You're not supposed to slam it and press the T logo. You're supposed to use both hands and press on both sides of the T logo without touching the logo.
This guy is an absolute savage with his review, bravo fair points made. Thanks for the honesty.
Where's the foam under the bonnet for the pedestrian you could hit? My mk5 golf has it and it's only worth £900!
Thumbs 👍🏼 for Rory Reid. Doing a great job.

What year is this edition?
I’m in the market to purchase a model 3 performance. Trying to decide between 2019, 2020, 2021
I think it's the 2020 model. 2021 gets heat pump. I've just put deposit on late 2020 model still with Tesla 4y/50,000 miles warranty in UK
Weird... other people say it’s easy to use the tablet.
It is
It is, when you’re not trying to drive at the same time. You’ll see most reviews raving about how good it is are parked up.
Long time BMW owners. We have owned 3,5,6, and 7 series sedans, and X3 SUV. Don't drive BMW any more. Drive Teslas only, Model 3 and X.
How lazy are we, if we think powered tail gates are a positive feature
an annoyance i would have thought
@@davidstuart4915 but it is electric, theres a button to open it on the tablet
I dislike powered tail gates. So do a lot of other people I know.
Apparently he is weak, that closing a manual trunk lid is difficult. And then he complained about the trunk opening was too small. I don't of any trunk opening that isn't small, because they're not a hatchback. Model Y, problem solved.
At this price point it should be included.
I know a reasonable amount about Teslas, so I was interested to hear Rory's take here. If there were a few things I'd highlight that could be misleading to people unfamiliar with Tesla cars, these are not differences of opinion but choice of language I would say:
2:08 Correct, it's not a hatchback, but is the boot opening "really small"... for a saloon? I don't think it is, and it was a criticism that Tesla addressed after the unveiling of the Model 3 because this was everybody's primary concern. I feel like you mean it's small compared to if it were a hatchback. But if you compared it with its peers (let's say a BMW 3-series or Audi A4?) I'd just like to have heard "compared to..."
3:11 It's definitely not a sunroof.
This guy explains... th-cam.com/video/Vrg6YE8K7lY/w-d-xo.html
But...
