    Thank you for doing vids covering 2 to 3 generations of CPUs and the MoBos that could support them best. Some of us take years to upgrade our desktop rigs and have mainly subsisted on laptops for general work. I think the last one I confidently built was an AMD Phenom 4 Black with a 5850 as a kid. I was running a b450 Tomahawk with my Ryzen 2700, then I upgraded to a 5800X, and the Tomahawk did just fine, but I wanted to upgrade boards as well to take advantage to the gen 4 PCI lanes. I was looking at the B550 Unify, but ended up going with the X570 Unify, as I found one for the same price. Was surprised not to see, as the B550 Unify was shown off. One thing I noticed from switching boards with the 5800X was the VRM temps. The X570 Unify VRM has much more robust cooling. Love the board! Good info

    I ended up going with the MSI B550 Gamer's Edge Wifi and am very happy with it. Aside from having the front panel type C header (which I wanted since my case has one), the number and location of the fan and RGB headers made routing those cables pretty easy.

    So one of the main advantages to the Dark Hero is the fact that you can set up the OC to switch between PBO and all core overclocking based on the power draw of the CPU. It addresses one of the weak points of AMD CPU OC that most don't even bother with. PBO is great for normal day to day stuff and gaming but if you want to max out the CPU for multi core workloads then PBO isn't as good as all core. All core is good for hard core productivity but not so much for gaming. Properly set up the Dark Hero covers both of the approaches.

      ASRock B550M Pro4 is a great price to performance motherboard and would likely be fine with any of the Ryzen 5000 CPUs (maybe not the G ones). But the video was so long that I decided to cut any boards that didn't have bios flashback.

    Video is actually more helpful than I thought. The start of video was lengthy but really really informative, you gave me even more info than i previously thought i had with AM4 motherboards. Thanks for the thoughtful process of picking the right motherboard for anyone
    From what i have seen in my local FB marketplace, the B550 Tomahawk is just the right board for my needs, tho the B550 Gaming Edge Wifi is tempting, tho i dont see it in my local FB marketplace so i'll just see if it pops up.

    MSI B550 Unify is a one of a kind board if you plan to use a lot of M.2 storage instead of 2.5" drives. 4 slots on the board with heatsinks, phenomenal! Also has insane VRM (90A Power Stages) and the biggest heatsinks ever seen on a motherboard.

  • @arta73
    @arta73 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Best B450m budget board definitely is MSI B450M Mortar Max. Good connectivity, 2 nvme slots, 4 ram slots, good vrms, fantastic heatsink. And it usually costs only around 80EUR in EU. Only problem was that it was hard to find in US.

      Have the same board as you have paired with a 3600, solid as a rock and love the two NVMe slots which contain both a crucial 500Gb stick.
      And it doesn't have a Xmas tree amount of rgb leds, yup am not a RGB fan 😁

I started out with a 1700 overclocked to 3.9Ghz, then I dropped in a 2700X with FlareX 3200 CL14, But I am getting ready to sell my older rig to a buddy at work.. I still love that X370 Taichi Though.. I got a lot of use out of it also it runs Ryzen 5000 series chips too.. ASRock has kept their people up to date with new BIOS's for a long time now..

    I have a Crosshair VII Hero right now, and probably going to get the VIII Hero next for the PCIE gen 4 support. Probably the wi-fi version this time so it has bluetooth for a gamepad.
    I've also grown accustomed to the little niche extra features on the Crosshair boards. Like the digital q-code display, and the "probelt" voltage check points (and of course the abundance of USB ports).
    I made kind of a nifty mod, where I wired up some mini LED voltmeters to the probelt (removable, not soldered) to give a constant readout of the voltages, and designed/3d printed a housing to mount the voltmeters into the case. Mostly just for some aesthetic flair rather than any practical need, but I thought it was pretty cool and haven't seen anyone else do it.
    Anyway great video with some great advice for people who (unlike me) aren't looking to spend extra money on features they don't need.

    in my 2022 build to replace my MSI 760G-MP35 (AM3) I went with the MSI B450 Gaming Plus Max ATX Board, 16 GB DDR4 memory and a Ryzen 5 5600G. The way you present so much relevant info without all the fluff and your upbeat personality are a winning combination.
