  • It's time for an oil change in the GT3 RS. It has been about a year and 5,000 miles. While I'm in maintenance mode I decided to change the cabin filters, too.
    For oil I use Amsoil Premium Synthetic European Car Formula SAE 5W-40

    The reason you would change the oil hot is so that any heavier sediments would be lifted and suspended in the oil. Where as when you do it cold the heavy sediments tend to stay at the bottom of the oil pan.

    • @nismomike3182
      @nismomike3182 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also helps to eliminate sludge build up right?

    • @HockeyHead252
      @HockeyHead252 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      NISMO MIKE yes and no sludge build up can be from not changing the oil frequently enough. What happens is the oil starts to break down, losing its viscosity and becomes sludgy. But letting the oil heat up then changing it more frequently can help reduce and engine build up. Basically Changing it cold and frequently won’t cause a build up but it won’t get all the heavy sediments or dirt.

    I only put about 5K a year on my car and also do once a year oil changes. Although in 18 years and 290,000 miles worth of oil changes I have never once pre-filled an oil filter. Mine is sideways on the back side of the block facing the firewall so it’s really not possible. Never had any issues.

    Changed the oil on my 981 last weekend and figured out that iCarsoft scan tool can show a live reading of the oil level sensor without the engine on. In the shop manual it specifies the oil level necessary to prevent engine harm. Not quite as easy as a dip stick but I found it really nice piece of mind before I turned on the engine. Thought you might be interested in that trick too Matt.

    Matt, you do really need to use a torque wrench on those drain plugs: you are "cranking" on those as if they are bolts with steel threads! They are aluminum! And when, not if, you strip or tear up a thread you won't like the repair (heli coil etc.) so what is left..... replacing the casting?
    Its striking that you are so concerned with many other details on other matters, but when it comes to relevant and significant details , like torque specs - to prevent ruining threads , you shrug your shoulders! Don't say we didn't mention it..... the day is coming.

    Matt, I see you have not so far decided to buy that lightweight battery that takes 42 pounds out of the car. I send you the Motoiq link couple months ago. If you still are interest to pull quite a bit of weight from the front very easily. As you have in the rear with this AWE lightweight exhaust. But maybe lost the link. Here it is again.
