Best 991.2 DIY Major Service video to date.
Thank you! It means a lot
Tommy, you've truly nailed it with this insightful video on Porsche service maintenance! It's not just about the drive; it's about the longevity and reliability that come with proper servicing. Thanks for shedding light on this often overlooked aspect of owning a Porsche. Keep up the fantastic work, and I'm looking forward to more content like this!
Thanks for the kind words. I really appreciate it
I don’t own this car, yet I sat through this whole video. Very informative and entertaining. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Another awesome video Tommy! A lot of work going into making this video, much respect brother.
Thanks Michael!! Hope all is well.
Tommy, thanks so much for this! I really enjoy your content and i appreciate your attention to detail. While it seems pretty straightforward, I'm not brave enough to attempt this on my 991.2. Keep up the great work!
Thanks! I’m sure you could easily tackle it. With patience :)
beautiful job. I really enjoy your videos, your attention to detail is amazing
Thank you for the kind words Juan!
Hi, one of your best vids so far, well done and produced. Cleaning the inside of the car behind the bodywork is the kind of attention to detail I love that I assume you don't get at a dealer. Cheers.
Glad you enjoyed it! Cleaning the inside made me feel a lot better for some reason :)
Thanks Tommy. I hope my Porsche mechanic is as careful as you are 🙏🏻. And, it will be easier to pay the bill knowing how much needs to be done for the “simple jobs” you DIY’d. Very impressive.
Thank you. I have seen Porsche mechanics at work and they seem to care a lot actually. Porsche mechanics are a certain breed.
I can tell this is going to be another great video. Thanks, Tommy!
This was a fun one for sure!
Very nice! Informative and easily comprehensible. My 992 T coming before year’s end. Definitely looking forward to more T content from you.
Congrats on the T! You will absolutely love it
Looking forward to my own maintenance in the future! Thanks so much!
Happy to help!
Tommy, you're amazing. I loved all the angles you took with the camera to show how to do each thing, the music for the majority of the video gave that calm feel. I wasn't sure what to expect when I clicked on your video. I thought it was going to be the usual overhyped dude just talking about how awesome his 911 is.
No. I was wrong. You were geuine, and humble about working on it. I have always steered clear of exotics because of the maintenance being too tedious, expensive, or they have some propriertary tool designed specifically for one job, and you can't do it without it. You've showed me its just another car. Same principles, you just have to tear it into to learn it. Gives me hope to buy one one day. To that, you've earned my sub, thanks a bunch Tommy!
Thank you so much for the kind words. I really appreciate it. And you are right, at the end of the day it’s just another car. You should not be intimidated by it.
Great video. Love that Cabellero deck hanging on the wall back there too!
Thanks!! Autographed too. One of my prized collections.
I am stoked that the algo brought your video to me. Although my 911 is not the same model. This video provided many details. I work on all my own cars which is the only reason I can own what I do, including custom cars.
Thanks for visiting! I love DIY and same thing here - doing it myself is the only way I can afford it
Great content as usual my friend 😎
Well thank you sir!!
Beast mode!!! Excellent job
Thanks!
I dont own a porsche but still watching it...nice video and info..will be buying soon though..doing my home work ❤
Thanks for watching !!
The 991.2 Carrera T may be the best bang for your buck sports car for the track...and street as well tbh. Great detail on the vacuum lines(bottom line).
I'm very impressed about the content of your videos. Thanks a lot for sharing your good work! Greetings from Germany Rainer
I really appreciate the kind words!!! Thanks for the visit
I like how you work good job......Ken
Awesome video! Thank you so much for this.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for the kind words.
Great job Tommy! Was a pleasure to watch you work. By the way, what music what that as you changed the spark plugs? Very soothing :-)
Great video, thanks for this.
Happy to help
By far the easiest car I have worked on, just did the PDK and final drive oils, plugs/coils, oil/filter change and K&N air filter in just a few hours. Thank you for your videos! My M4 is gone and I don't miss her!
Always need to trade up! :)
"By far the easiest car I have worked on" Say what? How many cars have you owned where you need to jack it up and remove two wheels just to get started.
Great video Tommy, thank you!
Thanks for the feedback!
You are my hero! Thanks.
Glad to help
Thanks for this content!!
Glad you enjoy it!
Amazing video!! Love it
Thanks!!!
Happened to come across your channel and glad I did. Subscribed and looking forward to more video(s) as I'm a DYI person. Wonder what it would have cost if a Porsche dealer did the work?
Thanks for posting!
Glad you liked it!!!
@@TommyLGaragebig help, I’m doing the same to me 991.2 GTS next week. Nice to have a channel like this. Again thanks…
TY again Tommy.
You got it!!
Amazing video. Saving for when I buy my 991.2
You’ll love it!
This is a great video and insight into why Porsche servicing at a garage is so expensive. Much more difficult than, for example, Mercedes. But still easier than many Audis.
Thanks! And yes I agree. Audi maintenance is insane.
Well done video. Thank you
Glad you liked it!
Great video. I need a Quick Jack!
Get it!! Life saVer for sure
Great video. For your safety, the quick jacks as used are backwards oriented, per the manual, need to lift the heavy end of the car over the jack base, not cantilever.
Great work! Subscribed. I have a 992 T coming next year and am trying to figure out what I will be able to do myself as P-Car maintenance at the dealer is expensive for the sake of being expensive.
Congratulations on the T! And yes you’ll be able to do all maintenance. It’s super easy.
I’m impressed Tommy 😉
Thanks Rich!!!!
What a beautiful car.
Thanks!!
Excellent video, your best I have seen so far. You're really brave, full respect! Second, nicely done and very informative. Thanks for this! PS: can you actually put injector cleaner in a Porsche? That's an additive right? The user manual says "No additive allowed".
Thanks! And yes I’ve been running injector cleaners without issues.
Great detailed video! Have you considered the DS 3.12s yet? I absolutely loved them last year. Believe it or not, absolutely zero squealing on the streets.
So these might be 3.12 actually. I bought them new but from a private person and I think they are those. Either way - I tested them and they are the best brake pads I’ve ever tried.
Damn, I love your perfection!!!
Thanks!!
Bosch aren't known for being consistent on pre-gapping. But also, if you gap your own spark plugs you can set them to a wider gap and get better performance from the engine. Yep, you might have 0.7 mm as standard, but apparently the best performance comes at 1.14 mm. It really does make a difference (Of course, if you gap them too wide, you'll notice misfires).
Good callout. Thanks !
Cool vid again!! Nothing like doing work on your own car ;-) rewarding...
One tip? Please get rid of the rubber line attaching the gas cap to your car. No Function and a lot of risk of banging the cap to your car.... There is handy spot where you can put it when filling up. And let's be honest, when was the last time you've dropped a gas cap... hahaha
Anyway, keep it up! love your videos!!
Good call on the gas cap rubber line. Will remove it asap.
Great job - def pain taking off bumper/spoiler just to get to engine. You want to do service on my 911T lol
For the right price sure!
Great vid, dude. Ive a turbo but I imagine the priciples are the same.
Thanks! Yes should be similar
What a great video! I still didn’t convince myself to work on my Porsche
You can do it! It’s easy
That looks easy
Not too bad
I really enjoyed that Tommy, but for me, I would be so concerned about cross threading the spark plugs!! 😬😜
You’ll be fine!
hey Tommy I have the quikjack I was quoted 350 to change out my spark plugs and my 887 just hit 100k runs good as new also I had them changed at 60k
Seems like a great deal!!!
Fantastic video.well done wish I had the tools and space to do the same 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thank you I appreciate it.
Bravo
Thanks!!
It just has to be one of the hardest cars to work on with the engine in that position.
But it’s so rewarding !
Nice
Thanks
Plastic oil pan and oil drain plug. Thank you VW Audi. YIKES!!!
Those OEM Porsche 911 wiper blades are good for any extra 5 HP each!!!
Please get rid of the hideous Digital Camo Roof Carrier with a hint of yellow. Still Violet's Porsche 911-T.
Roof box is off :)
9:35 As for the spark plugs, so glad I own a 991.1 instead.
Definitely easier on a 991.1
I’m gonna wait for the electric porsche
While still a pain, it looks easier to work on than the Cayman was. The oil change is a massive pain in the rear on the Cayman.
I agree!!
Great content, I feel like DIY on the 991 gen onwards is just unnecessarily difficult. For the coils, did you notice they had any vaccuum type pressure on them? I’m just wondering how you’d get those coils out after removing that screw if they were kind of suctioned into the hole a bit given that it’s such a tight area with no room to get your hands in there
Thanks! So the coils had some vacuum to them but you just pull by the screw and they come right out.
@@TommyLGarage keep up the great content dude, I watch a lot of your vids for my F82 maintenance, maybe one day if I own a 991.2 I’ll be watching this again haha
With regard to collecting the oil, all you had to do was unscrew the drain cap on the container to let air in and the oil would have started flowing into it.
Tried it. Didn’t work. It was clogged with grass
Good work. It is absurd how inaccessible Porsche has made these engines.
Thanks!!
I watched the video very helpful but why didn't you show how to get the coils and spark plugs off in the back any help would be appreciated thank you
It’s easy. Pop off and slide out.
Nice brief video, tightly edited.
But those brake pads were barely worn. I would have left them.
Same with the spark plugs. I think I would have inspected and reinstalled. They're good for at least 40,000 miles, if not 60 or 80,000.
K & N filters don't work as well as stock paper filters.
Thank you I appreciate the feedback. I replaced the brake pads for Traxxax specific ones. And regarding spark plugs, Porsche recommends you replace them every four years regarding of the mileage to prevent seizing.
Awesome! What is the watch you're wearing?
Thanks! Breitling Superocean 42. It’s my daily workhorse. Just the right balance of size and versatility.
Never seen someone drill an oil catch pan. Especially while filling! Does yours not have a pressure release cap near the top edge?
I left it outside and it clogged. My miss !
991.2 CT is the ideal spec.
I agree!
two things. You shouldnt use straight dialectric grease. It needs to be dialectric / teflon compound BMW had it cheaper than porsche. Due to the heat from the proximity of the turbos, you need that type. Also you dont put it on the tip of the plug, you swab it on the inside 1 inch of the coil pack boot. That way the boot doesnt sieze on the porcelain. Also the bottom clamp of the turbo intake tubes are not to be reused. THis is all in the service manual
Thanks for the feedback.
I never have issues reusing clamps n
@@TommyLGarage note the bottom one is different than the top one. Also note that there is blue loktight from the factory on the clamp screw. This is done to keep it from loosening up after many heat / cooling cycles. I guess in theory if you put new loktight on it it should work but porsche specs a new clamp just for that ONE clamp. I would keep an eye on it. I replaced mine with new and kept the old ones for a rainy day
By the way, is it possible to do the transmission oil panel and oil change alone?
Definitely, you can easily do it
I thought I would buy a Porsche 911 because it is my dream car, but after I watch this vid, I chanced my mind. I realized how stupid the engineering in terms of doing maintenances. I love Toyota more now just because how easy it is to maintain the car. I would spend my time doing better things,... This is absolutely crazy!!!
If you want the ultimate drivers car it has to be the Porsche
Hey brotha nice vids but I would like to know how to order TLG mudflaps thank you
Thanks!! Email me at got6speed @ gmail . com
There was some oil on the old spark plugs threads, is this OK? Or is there a gasket leak
It’s not oil. It’s fuel. Perfectly normal
Great review… so how much does the dealer charge… in the USA… 2500.00 is my guess….
I believe $4k
Is the whole engine Made in Poland or just the heat shields? ;)
Haha Polska!!!
damn thats alot of work with some ez job lmao😅😅
Haha it’s easy
Excellent video. My only suggestion would be to orient the quickjack the other way around for safety. The transmission jack helps prevent any issues, but would be unnecessary if the quickjacks are turned 180 degrees.
Thanks but I can’t orient them the other way. The pump is in for this the garage.
@@TommyLGarage got it...good you are using the transmission jack!
“A few moments later” is from SpongeBob :)
Oh hehe you’re right actually!!
I find you incredibly annoying… but so frickin helpful!
Tytyty
What makes me annoying? Just curious.
How long did it take?
About 4 hours total
what service you cannot DYI over 10 year period?
None. It’s all made for humans.
Maybe I won’t do coolant and alignment.
Porsche needs a redesign that's just to compact..
It’s not that bad
OMG. No wonder Porsche charges so much.😅 Here’s hoping Nissan will produce a proper Z NISMO RS…maintenance should be a whole lot easier and cheaper.😝
Oh it will be for sure!
Please do something about the volume balance on audio. The music is blaring and the dialogue very low after you adjust it down to a bearable volume (especially the first segment with the grating shitty synth music)
Sounds good. I will redo this whole maintenance. Any other requests ?
And I thought working on my 997 was a pain. Porsche is really going backwards making it very hard for individuals to work on their own cars.
Luckily we have people like you and me who don’t give up!
as you say ,simple, having to remove half the body panels just to change your oil and filter. DIY, l don't think so. not everyone owns their own workshop!
I’m mean it’s relatively easily
Gas cap gasket? Come on dude, ridiculous bro
You’d be amazed how often they go bad
Gas cap itself will cause check engine lights with pressure sensor if not properly sealed. Necessary
“Saved thousands”…curious, how many?
$3
way to go!@@TommyLGarage
18,000 miles and you are putting new plugs in it, what for, spark plugs don't wear out with age, they wear out from mileage, don't be a sucker.
It’s not about that. It’s about preventing them from seizing. That’s all it is.
I really hate rapid camera videos
What else bothers you?
if you haven't worked on other cars already, I highly advise you not to do this. this is not a simple DIY project.
It can be done. It’s not rocket science.
my local indy porsche shop here in arizona charges $1100 for the service. the hassle of figuring stuff out on a $120k car is not worth saving $600. keep in mind i don't own any of the needed tools, including the ability to lift the car. i can also cut my own hair, as you said it's not rocket science. doesn't make it a good idea, if i've never done it before.@@TommyLGarage
*Save THOUSANDS* ? is it waht you said Porsche fuck their customers like this, just for simple oil change ?
Yup!
yup
Mann watching you save $2500 doing it ya self 🫡🫣😂such satisfaction cant wait to get my turbo Porsche
You’ll love it and they’re so easy to maintain
