  • In this interview, Pete Sonntag and I discuss some of his projects like LS Droid, OBDX Pro, and some of his Holly products. We also talk about some of the histories of these projects and the roots that go back to PCM hammer. Near the end of the interview, we get a better idea of who Pete is and what his background is.

      I didn't know JR promoted the OBDX pro at all good hear though. I haven't seen all of them but I did see his one that promotes the OBDlink products using Ls Droid ( like my older ones that are kind of cringy looking back at it.)

    Thank you so much Pete. $900 just for hardware to work on our own cars and $125+ just for a right to one computer, thats a joke. Your persistence in doing what you do is awesome. Thank you and I will support you here shortly.

    My new OBDX Pro VT works a treat. Eagerly awaiting the Pro VT one use of which pays for the hardware.
    For the price of a flash & shipping being able to do many flashes is like a sore dick (ya can't beat it!). This tool will be vital as the LS fleet ages. Computers DO NOT last forever and flashing replacements will become increasingly important.
    Sharing information instead of hoarding it is righteous and what hot rodding was built on long before computers or even transistors.

    Cool to hear the history in one sitting. I've gotten lots of bits and pieces along the way from Pete.

    Awesome dialog. I have never programmed anything and I was hooked. I am rebuilding a 1970 Toyota Landcruiser FJ40 with a LS and Pete's LS-Droid app will be in my near future. Thanks for doing you -

    Good to see a skilled diagnostic tech transitioning out to other endevors. Your right, we just get stuck with intermittents and garbage problems while the parts changers double flag us.

    A DIRECT download link added to THIS video and others would save noobs considerable time poking about Facebook! (I've got mine but many mechanics are not that into computers or even the internet despite it being 2023.) The easier this process becomes the more OBDX units get sold thus rewarding their creator for the benefit of all concerned.
    Future LS Droid videos should contain basic noob info (takes a mere paragraph) so they don't post redundant questions.

    Great interview! Just bought an OBDX Pro VT the other day, should be delivered tomorrow!
    Quick question, for data logging from the vehicle, what interface would you recommend? I've been doing some reading and it seems like the main options are LS Droid, PCM hammer, or Tunerpro VT, but not sure where I should start. Thanks!
    Edit: For clarity, I'm specifically wondering about the logging side, I think the flashing side makes pretty much makes sense with what I've read online.

      I personally don't tune I just repair stuff so I use it for unbricking/cloning myself. From what I have heard you can datalog in the torque app but I am not sure how user-friendly it is.

    So the GT is ready to be used for J2534 programming?

    When will the GT and VX be released? Pete talks about needing to re-write LS Droid but doesn't give dates. I just sent my OBDLink back and am going to buy an OBDXPro... but waiting for the new version.

    • @FixedUntilBroken
      @FixedUntilBroken  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, I don't think dates where given because no hard date is there yet. I Jason (his business partner) posting pictures of the GT so I know he working on it right now. I would say GT is very close. This interview was because I asked him to do it and not that he is out promoting a release.

    I supported Pete in buying a Dongle device from his website. What are the chances Pete will write a version for Linux. I hate how WINDOW stops me from installing the software. Cant even download the file on the company computer. I have the file downloaded off my Personal Dual boot Linux/Windows machine. I think it has been 5-6 months since that machine was booted into window. I tried installing it on window and NO GO.

      @JSCB-365 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, I have a highlighted comment. Maybe this is progress. I did eventually get the windows based software to work. But I think this type of software is right inline with the method of thought for the average Linux user

    Can this be used to turn off fuel for the purposes of running a carburetor on an LS? I know HP tuners can. th-cam.com/video/XegaXLuBG5Q/w-d-xo.html.
