  • By no means is this a super, in depth tutorial. This is simply me sharing my very first harness rework, and a few little tips I figured out along the way. Just trying to show my fellow novices that it's not as scary as you think, and is totally doable! After all, if you never leave your comfort zone, you're not learning enough!

    This part was a cake walk, the challenge for me is figuring out how to get the engine in the car. Nothing around here but dirt and mud. engine hoist dont roll well on dirt or in mud. having a concrete slab installed isnt an option either. Tried to use friends garages and stuff but you know how that goes so here I sit, with a 5.3 ready to go into an s10 with no way to actually get it in there.

      On my KA swap that I did, I left the harness with everything on it and just wired/hooked up what I needed. It was my first swap so I didn't want to screw anything up by removing something I shouldn't...I ran it like that for 2 years, with plugs not plugging into anything, etc...I recently pulled the harness out and removed every wire/plug I wasn't using: It cleaned up the engine bay nicely! So you can leave them in, however, it just looks so much better without any extraneous wires or plugs.

      Yes. you can use a t56. you can get a t56 harness or if you have the auto harness just use it. You can tuck away or remove the wires for the auto trans. Harness is the same, just a few more wires and plugs to run auto. Ecm does not know the difference. Depending on year of ecm you may want to have some CEC removed on ecm if you go stick on auto ecm but engine will run fine either way.

    I'm installing a 5.3 into a 99 but I cant figure out how I am going to make it work. I cant find a cheap LS1 harness from a trans am or camaro so I might have to improvise with the stock 5.3 harness. But shit on the 5.3 harness is not in the same location. I'm using the stock truck injectors and fuel rails. I just dont know how I can make a stand alone work from a 5.3 truck harness. If I was to find a 5.7 harness everything should plug and play accept the truck fuel injectors. Those will have to be spliced to the ls1 harness. It's a headache

    • @mckreations5160
      @mckreations5160 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can get jumper for injector harness to go from one to the other without having to splice and easier, just cost. As for location of items, most things for a stock 5.3 a close and just require a little lengthening or fore thought to change their location from. One brach harness to the one closer to its position for your application... unless I'm not understanding your issue

      the truck harness is even easier and with a 99 you can easily intigrate it into your trucks harness for your obd2 port and gauges

      Already got it covered. Ended up using a harness for the F-body. Got all LS1 fbody accessories. Everything's swapped over. The build is 98% done. Just hooking up hoses and lines. Little stuff then put the exhaust on. It a wasn't cheap build that's for sure lol

    Get to the point don't try an explain every single little small detail, some of the stuff you explain was good but if anyone watching this don't know to take loom off or to use zip ties they are not going too be doing this anyway.

      To each their own bud, I’m pretty sure he’s tryna cover everything to make it almost idiot proof

    This is a good video. We are swapping a 68 with a LS1. We may take this route and give this a shot. Wish us luck... Not alot of electrical wiring experience. Thanks for the Vid!!!
