CCI, the Crackerjack of 22 "Matchish" ammo. There's surprises in every box.

Hello Mr. Rimfire. Great channel, great content. I just wanted to mention, we shoot 30 matches a year. Ten shots at 100 yds. and 10 shots at 150 yds. When we tested the cci Standard Velocity, the flyers at 50 yds. turned into shots at 150 yds that were out of the scoring circle. 0 points. One zero at 150 yds. and you pack up and go home. But to give them credit, we also shoot 30 to 40 red dot pistol, steel challenge matches per year and the cci"s work out just fine. 7 yds to 25 yds, they shoot very well. We shoot so much, we try to keep the cost down. Thank you for your channel.

I hear ya on the cost. I have some Norma Match that doesn’t shoot in the rifles but does very well in the handguns. Other than that the CCI Blazers work well in the Handguns also.

I’m just a recreational target shooter and have not shot any ammo more expensive than Eley Force, so my experience is limited. Both out of a modified 10/22 and a stock Ruger RPR CCI SV has shot really well. .35-.5 out of the 10/22 & .24 - .4 out of the RPR with ok consistency for $5 a box ammo. It’s all been from the same lot. So far CCI has been worth shooting, it’s cheap & consistent enough that I don’t feel like I’m wasting my time using it. Love your channel!

Thanks and I’ve had some lots of Standard Velocity that have done well, it’s just not consistent lot to lot in most of my rifles. It’s decent practice ammunition though.

Great Video! My results with CCI have been simlar, as such I've don't consider any CCI ammo to be "match" ammo. That said, I shoot CCI Standard Velocity all the time as a step above "bulk" ammo, and I do most of my pistol shooting with it, as well as "offhand" rifle shooting. I have not noticed the amount of "audible" inconsistency you did in the video, but my most accurate guns hover around .5"-.6" with Standard Velocity at 50 yards, the same guns that will do .2s and .3s with Midas +. Every box of Green Tag and Pistol Match I have ever bought didn't shoot much better than plain old standard velocity.

Late to this party but I bought a box of CCI Standard Velocity for the first time to take my daughter to the range (her first time with my CZ457). She hit a 4" gong at 100yds 22 times in a row.. For plinking I was impressed, especially considering it's price. It was as good as rws in my rifle

Very good vid. I agree with you that the CCI is not the 'bee's knees' I assume your groups were at 50yds. I too have a CZ mtr and it shoots well with SK LR but I still have the errant 'wtf' I have been using Lapua Long Range and it is 'slightly' better at the longer ranges. We shoot out to 250yds and sub moa. I have managed almost moa at 250 but it is ALWAYS dependent on the wind. I shoot a CZ mtr with a Harrel tuner, Bravo stock, Jard trigger, Vortex gen iii RZR, and the ammo has been sorted by weight and rim thickness. The biggest improvement I have found is using the 'Kroil and JB bore brite" to polish the barrel. Also between relays at matches I will 'plug the chamber and 'tape' the muzzle. My cold bore shots are not as 'wild'. Thanks again for your vids.

My family think I am crazy as I weigh my PCP and rimfire ammo. I didn’t load it myself and inconsistency does make a difference in competition. Even top quality ammo is not 100% consistent. If you are going to shoot a competition with 3 or 5 round groups, use the ammo that is the same length, weighs the same and has the same neck width. It helps to get ammo that is likely to perform the same in the same group. With rimfire I use slightly wider tolerances, but with PCP the slugs/pellets are sorted in ranges of within 5/1000 of a gram of each other. When I shoot I will use only what comes from one weighed packet. In that way I know that I am likely to get the same/similar results. It may seem stupid, but half a gram makes a difference at distance. The same with rimfire. If they weigh the same, same length, same neck size, it means it is likely to have the same amount of propellent and bullet weight. Not a science, as I didn’t load them myself. But better than taking them out the box and hoping for the best in a competition.

CCI standard velocity is always hit and miss in my rifles. The one rifle that loved it, I recently traded for a CZ 457 American. That was a Savage MKII FVT target rifle. It would shoot the SV into tight clusters. Even with it's factory iron sights. It was not uncommon to shoot 10 into the x ring, with a measurement of .5-.7". With a scope, it was more like .3-.5" for 10 shots. My other rifles, not so much.. Most times, I'd rather shoot Federal Automatch, especially through my 10/22's. The Kidd barreled 10/22 doesn't care what you feed it. The only real nice thing about CCI SV ammo, is you can always find it at Wally world. The same can be said for Federal Automatch though. I often wonder why CCI SV has such a huge following, because it only shoots good in one of my rifles. I don't blame you for shooting SK and Lapua ammo. That stuff is so much better and more consistent. Even the Eley target and club has been more consistent shooting in all of my rifles. Good video. Thanks for sharing!!

I have a 457 and tried many ammo options. Longer range the CCI SV Target is a bit unpredictable. Above 50 yards. However, on short range competition shooting I have been impressed with them for the price point. At 30 yards Eley Tenex is not that much better and the price point is double. For competition use the expensive match ammo, but practice and short range, the CCI SV Target from my 457 has outperformed some of the Eley ammo consistently. Time behind the scope is also important for good shooting. CCI allows for a lot more time behind the scope due to the price point.

great video. I tried all that ammo and the first time I shot Lapua, the very first time I had 10 shots at 50 yards in a perfectly round hole half the size of a dime. I live on an island in southeast alaska and ammo is hard to get. When I seen what Lapua long range did I ordered a 5000 round case. I just visited a friend on Whidbey island who has a gun like yours I tried the lapua and it did a similar group but not as tight. You may want to try some, yes it's spendy but can you say lights out. keep up the good work

I really wish CCI would attempt a real match product. I realize the market in the US for rimfire match ammo might not be as large as other parts of the world (here in the Northeast, I struggle to find ANY rimfire benchrest matches or clubs). It just doesn't seem like they're willing to do the retooling required to improve consistency and in how the rounds sit in match-grade chambers. I'd imagine just changing up the lubricant would be easy enough though - might be worth a shot.
CCI is my go-to for plinking, hunting, and any off-hand shooting. I hope they'll someday make a competitive option for us benchrest nerds.

Everything I read said do not shoot Stingers in it buy when testing, I thought, what the hell. Try them and see just how bad they are.
Well. one thing listed was true. It will not extract an unfired round and it put rifling marks on the driving band. Not deep, barely there. I learned long ago that touching the lands in bench rest center fire contributes to more accurate shooting. I figured why this would not be the same in rimfire?
How did they shoot? Unreal. 50 Yard's was mostly under .3 inch with last group going .127".

I am have had the ammo for months but have not had the time to test yet and when I thought about going out the wind has been too strong--I live in the same state. I also was busy with new 6.5 CM rifle now that my club's longer rifle range has been extended 500 yards.

I am now working up a Talo edition light varmint and waiting on my Q El Camino to come in so it can go into suppressor jail. Hoping this works out to be a good combo. Very good and informative video. I find your results for CCI ammunition typical of what CCI is producing today. I have what is left of a case of 30+ year old CCI Mini-Mag and out of My Remington 541-S and two Brno's, a 456 LUX and a Model 1 the groups will stay inside of a 1/2" most of the time. Many times I can shoot groups into the high 2's and the 3's. (The ground squirrels don't like me.) I had some bulk CCI standard velocity that would stay inside of a 3/4" red sticker. That was about 35 years ago. What did CCI do? Thanks JD

Yeah, everything was way better 35 years ago. I’m sure they got cheap looking at the bottom line and are not taking care of the machines like they should or used too. Who knows. Agreed. 30 beans for 50 rounds is too much money for that type of consistency. At that price you shouldnt see vertical stringing. At that price even if a a group is 1/2'' or slightly more the group should be round and not show fliers as that the entire reason for match ammo

I had never heard that the 50 round boxes of CCI Standard Velocity shoots better than the 100 round boxes, and I cannot imagine why they would. I don't think I have ever shot any from the 100 round boxes. I have shot lots of them from the 50 round boxes, and I have found them to vary considerably from lot to lot. CCI primers are reliable. For cheap bulk I use mostly Federal Auto Match but I have 0 to 3 failures to fire per box of 325 rounds. The other issue is I may get an occasional stove pipe or other feed issue with Federal Auto Match such as one or two every 50 rounds so cannot use for a pistol match. CCI SV should reliably cycle most semi-auto pistols but some may need higher rated muzzle velocity. CCI Mini Mag has more velocity and is reliable but the groups at 50 yards were so bad I did not bother trying at 100 yards. CCI Minit Mag grouped more like cheap bulk ammo. Federal Auto Match could give me more 1 MOA groups than not while CCI Mini Mag was more like 3 or 4 inche groups at 50 yards.
