    Welcome back to the full episode of the Speedy trim edger restoration.
    This is a lengthy video so grab some popcorn and snacks and enjoy!
    Turns out this model is extremely rare made by a South-African company by the name of Rolux.
    I have had this fun little toy for a while now. I thought its time to give it some love.
    If you have any suggestions for improvement, or compliments share them below!

    I remember the days when you could buy parts dip cans to cheapen carbs. My future wife wouldn’t even complain about me rebuilding carburetors on the kitchen table. My how things have changed 🤣

    That thing turned out beautiful. However, I think the color choices could’ve been your basic Black enamel because those things get horrifically dirty. Pretty neat.

    • @AJRestoration
      @AJRestoration  ปีที่แล้ว

      I wanted to keep it the same color combinations. It does get dirty fast, but it wont ever be used as a tool again, its just for show now. This one is retired.

    Why put a 2HP sticker on a 3.5HP engine?

    • @AJRestoration
      @AJRestoration  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Because its a 2hp block with a 3.5hp blower housing. The blower housing and the airlifter is not original. I have measured the bore of the cylinder and the stroke, and it turned out to be a 2hp engine.

    It's ok. Where's the lock down nut for the muffler? The metal spacer that goes in the air cleaner housing? Wrong screw for air cleaner top. And ditched original bolts for some kind of European screws. Muffler should have been bare steel or anodized. And how did it go from being 3.5 hp to 2 hp? If you were going for pretty, you hit the mark. If your idea was an original restoration missed it by a mile. But, alas, these videos are not made for mechanics, just people trying to unwind and relax.

    • @AJRestoration
      @AJRestoration  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Haha okay relax buddy, take a good breath.

    Three items need attention: You left out the locking ring on the muffler, The air vane cover is not correctly installed and apparently you deleted the start / run knob which was a classy extra. Also missing the fuel tank decal. You go through soo many steps restoring these machines, then you forget the details. Also that is not the correct screw for the air cleaner cover. Please do ALL the work required.

    • @AJRestoration
      @AJRestoration  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I get what you are saying, my plan with the knob was to wire a kill switch where it was mounted in the hole, I could not find a kill switch that would fit in time for the video. The tank decal is not there because where I live (South Africa) sourcing these decals is EXTREMELY hard to do and if I can source them, the shipping is just not worth it, way to expensive, and that is IF it arrives because of the incompetence and corruption on South Africa's side of the imports.
      The main Briggs decal is not even original, I made that decal. The air cleaner's crew is not the original because the air cleaner itself is not the correct one, I liked what the screw looked like with the build so I left it there. The entire engine is mismatched with parts and that is what I liked about it. Makes it unique. That is not even the correct blower housing for the engine hahaha
      I go through soo many steps restoring these machines because I love it, it's fun to do for me. I have PLENTY of brings engines that are perfect and having ones that aren't perfect really makes them stand out in the collection.
      I get a lot of guys looking at my collection and all they see is oh another Briggs, and another, and then they see this one and their reaction is like "WOW what is this!? Where did you get this one" Then we start a cool conversation, they don't look at it and be like ugh look at the unoriginal air cleaner crew or the missing decals on the blower housing and the fuel tank.
      It's all part of the hobby of restoration, it does not have to be perfect. To me personally, it's about bringing it back to life, making it look good again, putting in a shitload of work, and loving the end result. Also, a lot of guys want to see it restored to its original and I get that, but in the end, it's my little engine, I sometimes restore it the way I want it to look it means a lot more to me in the end.
      So to bring this reply to a close, I did do all the work required.
