    I'm always amazed how many TH-camrs spend 5 minutes pockmarking a surface in a sandblasting cabinet just to spend an hour and a half polishing the same surface afterwards. The thickness of the metal will, of course, have been reduced by half a millimetre.

    • @AJRestoration
      @AJRestoration  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      half a millimeter? There is no way that much material is removed. maybe a tenth of a millimeter, and that's being generous.

    Good restoration. The coils are not directly commoned. The first coil is terminated at terminals 1&2, and the second coil to terminals 3&4. The metal link (2&3) commons the coil. That is how the original is.

    Currently this piece doesn't have much function, but a good current function is to connect it to an alarm clock in a way that amplify the sound of the same. For a college student this would be perfect: it's not something that wakes up a college student after a semester ends!

    You connected the magnets wrong, so the magnets now work against each other, why the bell doesn't have the most effective sound. What you need to do, is to swap the connection of the second magnet. The second magnet is supposed to be wired "backwards", so when the alternating current goes into the bell, the first magnet will pull the tab, and the second magnet will push the tab, and then vice versa. If you swap the connections of the second magnet, you will get a much stronger sound.

    I've always wondered, what is the purpose of the yellow/blue passivation? Is it aesthetic? I always like the bright white zinc and then it turns yellow 😂

    • @AJRestoration
      @AJRestoration  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The passivation seals and cures the zinc coating so it lasts longer, the blue and yellow is purely aesthetic but both does the same thing.

    I am trying to restore an old 1970's sears solid O2X welding torch. My problem is I can only find them complete. I only want parts and the front panel emblem. Any ideas where to look for parts? I've tried ebay, amazon

    It's a nice job. But I'm not sure why you did the wiring with it mounted on the board. Would have been easier to wire and then assemble on the board, IMO.

    • @AJRestoration
      @AJRestoration  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I liked it this way, it was just more open and easier to access. It felt natural to wire it like that.

    although I have to say that I don't think the powder coating is a good choice, because it,s to modern, I would rather have seen some kind of enamel.
