Celebrity Cruise Line's "All-Included": What's INCLUDED and What's EXCLUDED & When to Pay More

  • **Note from Brandon: It was brought to my attention Celebrity Cruise Line does not have an "all-INCLSUIVE" package but has an "all-INCLUDED" package with extra perks. In this video, I mistakenly confused the two terms. If you are looking at the "ALL-INCLUDED" rate and what to know what all is included and not included, this video is still 100% accurate. However, when I say "All-Inclusive" I should have said "All-Included".**
    Took my first Celebrity Cruise and was excited to try an "All Inclusive" (read All-Included) Cruise Line with gratuities (tips), internet, food, meals and entertainment all built into Celebrity's All-Included cruise fare. However, I quickly learned I might still be paying more for some of these items once I boarded the Celebrity Infinity as not everything was all included!
    These are Celebrity Cruise Tips you will NEED to learn - what is all included and what you will want to pay more for once onboard. You might want to try the nicer all-inclusive level of perks.
    Filmed onboard the Celebrity Infinity.

    Celebrity has never marketed itself as "All Inclusive" but has a pricing package option that is called "All Included" which is BASIC internet and CLASSIC beverage package as well as gratuities. They are NOT an all inclusive line but still in the Premium Line category. NCL has something almost the same Free at Sea and Princess has Princess Plus. Again, the marketing from Celebrity does not mention "All Inclusive" to my knowledge.

      I couldn’t agree more with your analysis. I think Brandon is mixing up the term all inclusive with all included. Celebrity, to my knowledge does not brand itself as all inclusive. Just one other point of Brandon’s. Please don’t discourage people from tipping. If you don’t want to tip, then don’t, but don’t encourage others not to. Your cabin steward works hard over the course of a cruise, and if you feel they did a great job, then show your appreciation, if you wish.

      You are very correct, I got this one wrong and it is All-Included as I genuinely thought it was "all-inclusive". Though, interestingly, the current promo rate code is abbreviated to "All Inc" leaving it to the imagination. This is definitly a bit of shady marketing as there is no grammatical difference between all-inclusive and all-included. They could just as easily say it is all-inclusive of the basic internet, classic beverage and gratuities. I also did a search in the Celebrity Facebook group of "all-inclusive" (to ensure I am not the only dense one) and there are hundreds of folks who have also confused this terminology. Even thought the phrasing is incorrect, I hope the content of the video is still solid explaining what is included, what is not included, and when you might want to upgrade your package. Thank you for the kind correction as well :-)

    • @TheWeekendCruiser
      @TheWeekendCruiser  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Hey Mark, just responded to See More Seas Cruises and definitly got the terms mixed up! My opinion on tipping is definitly a controversial one but I will always back the idea that patrons of a business should not determine how much or how little someone makes. Especially, when that company is telling me their are adequately paying their employees with gratuities included. However, this does not mean I might not help them make more money in different ways. I will GLADLY brag to their managers, write their names a million times in a survey, and advocate for them to get pay raises, promotions, or opportunities at a different company.

      @@TheWeekendCruiser Brandon, I love your channel and your videos! I went on the Freedom twice because of your weekend reviews! I so agree with you that the marketing with this is borderline but Celebrity IS in the Premium category and not the luxury category. I'm not sure you would get that same definition if you talked to Celebrity though. It is a questionable marketing decision but I stand behind the term and have always understood what I was getting with the All Included. With that said, NCL's "Free at Sea" is even worse with you having to pay all of the gratuities on their all included drinks, specialty dining and internet upon checkout. Princess does the same with their Princess Plus which matched Celebrity when they pushed this concept into the space. BTW, I do not include NCL in the same category as Celebrity and Princess. I have a full video on my channel explaining the "All Included" if anyone wants to check it out. I love Royal and Celebrity and also completely support your channel! You do a great job but had to jump in on this one. Keep up the excellent work!

    I really agree with you on the tipping. Many people point out that they like to tip more. Often. At the end of my 12 day Apex trip I found the service to be outstanding everywhere. However, I had my Luminae waitstaff and my butler that I felt went above and beyond to insure my cruise was incredible. Those got a small additional gratuity. We were on Celebrity Apex over Thanksgiving (our first cruise since 2019!) and we paid for the cruise only. Obviously we did need to pay the gratuities but we're not drinkers and we like to unplug while on vacay. I'm so happy we did not get the All-Inclusive deal. Like you said, it's really not a 'deal' at all. They encourage you to use your phone to check the restaurant menu every evening - but we couldn't even connect! Their iLounge was always crowded with people looking for help to connect - it was FAR more difficult than it needed to be. We thoroughly enjoyed our cruise - and we're booked for next year already - but again, cruise only. Thanks for another great video Brandon! With the drinks package, I understand that if you want the premium drinks you just need to pay the difference between the classic $9 and $14 - so it will be $5 per drink. That is not too bad.
    With the speciality restaurants I understand you do need to pay a gratuity on top of the meal and also for alcohol. However I believe you can order the wine that is included in the classic package if you ask nicely.

    • @TheWeekendCruiser
      @TheWeekendCruiser  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there, yes, if you want something more than $9, just pay the difference. The not too bad part depends on how many times you are doing this ;-)
      For specialty, the gratuity is extra but is built into the cover charge. Alcohol is also fully included if you have a package in specialty. Otherwise, this would be a VERY expensive dinning experience.

    We just completed a 7 day cruise on the Celebrity Apex. We booked the all included with basic internet. They did not block our calling over Wi-Fi. We occasionally called home with sporadic connections, which is understandable. No trouble texting, even ship to ship. We also sent many photos by text with no problem. We did have to reduce their size to 1024 x768 due to the slow connection. Overall the internet was slow but usable. I was even able to watch some TH-cam on my phone. I had no interest in streaming, I could stay home and do that. Thumbs-up to Celebrity. BTW, I realize I paid for gratuitous already, but I did give my cabin steward an extra $40 because of outstanding service. And why not? He is struggling and I can afford it.

      Hye John, glad yo hear you had a good expeirence with the wifi! For tipping, I know there are many opinions on this but mine is one that a patron of a business should not be deciding how much or how little an employee should be making. They also could be doing a great job to your face and a nightmare behind the scenes. I prefer to share my positive expeirence with their manager, in the survey by writing their name, and talking about how good of an expeirence I have to drive revenue of the cruise line. Especially, when the cruise line tells me not to worry about it and they are compensating their employees by including gratuities. Other cruise lines, without all included gratuities I tip away! 😃

    I just took my first cruise a few weeks ago on Norwegian. Their Free at Sea package is very similar. That includes drink package for drinks up to $15, depending on the length of the cruise, at least one meal in specialty dining, but more if it's longer, discounts for excursions, and a very basic Wi-Fi package. It's limited to like 150 minutes per cruise. this also includes the gratuity for all of these items, but not the general gratuities. It’s nice to sit in a casino without someone blowing smoke in your face. Only one announcement per day by the CD. The one negative is the smaller martini glasses being used by X. Hopefully RCI doesn’t move this move. Service on RCI is very good with a great friendly crew but it’s a slight step up on X. Suites on X is so much better than RCI. We have cruised numerous times on different Celebrity ships both in the Caribbean and closer to home in Europe. We always opt for “gratuities included” in the up front prices that we pay. That takes the responsibility away from us.
    However, we’ve met people on board, usually Americans, who always tip the crew for standard services like a dollar or two for drinks being served or room tidies.
    And at the end of the cruise I’ve also seen the restaurant concierge and some of the waiters receive $50 or $20 dollar bills from many of the cruisers.
    The American tipping culture is somewhat strange to us so we don’t engage with it. As far as we’re concerned, if we pay for something then that’s it, it’s paid for. Giving something extra for a normal basic service doesn’t even enter our heads. Especially when there is a “service charge” on the bill. However we do tip when something nice, unusual or out of the ordinary enhances our experience.

      American here, the reason we tip so much is because the waitstaff in most of our restaurants are paid very little hourly and they depending on tips. Most have to provide better service or they won’t get a tip. It’s getting ridiculous though because everyone expects people to tip now so the service slacks sometimes. Gratuity should be just that; a little something for great service but not the employees full wage. It’s crazy.

In a restaurant we dined in on 54th St the man that served us was very good, polite, attentive and looked after us very nicely indeed. When we got the bill I saw an “18% service charge” had been added so I didn’t give a tip. To us, that was an underhanded way of gouging extra money from customers.
      The price should be the price, and the bill should be the bill. Anything else it’s just underhanded and sneaky and smacks of dishonesty.

For our December cruise on Beyond, we upgraded from the Basic wifi we already had to Premium, and it cost us $11.99 per day total for two people (not each). Celebrity needs to fix its website so, for people who already have Basic, the cost to upgrade from Basic to Premium is displayed. I wonder how many Wifi upgrade sales Celebrity loses.

    Completely agree with you. Gratuity is fast becoming a huge issue in the US, and such views from people like you are not helping. Disappointed in your comments. Tips and gratuities were never meant to replace wages for hard-working people. They were always meant to be an additional bonus for those hard-working folks that go over and above and provide outstanding customer experience. The crew on these ships are mostly contracted employees with a fixed wage and they work very hard and sometimes very long hours. They need to be paid well period so they can better their lives and that of their families. The practice of using Tips and Gratuities to supplement theses hard-working crew is just unfair. It is about time hard-working people in the US are paid the fair wages they deserve by their employer. No begging and borrowing using alternatives for hard-work, period! Lets end this gratuity pandemic.

    The drink packages aren't worth it for solo travelers I am finding. My last Celebrity I met a few couples that had sailed without perks and purchased 1 drink package and shared it. The premium package is 100 a day plus 18%. As a solo traveler are you really going to have 8-10 drinks a day to just break even?
    The zero proof package, which is the only non alcohol is like 30 a day, or 27 if you are select status. It used to be 20. I had this on my last cruise and a lot of time when I asked for premium water they didn't have it, so I received the basic one. Celebrity also eliminated the water only package and classic non alcohol. I expressed my frustration and the Celebrity rep I spoke just recommended I bring some water with me. I am done with drink packages on Celebrity.

    Since you have acknowledged that you used incorrect terminology, when are you replacing the video that misrepresents your argument? One additional thought...I only cruise lux and ultralux cruise lines. I don't know any cruise line that meets your definition of all inclusive. For example, if I want a fairly exclusive bottle of wine with dinner, I have to pay extra for it. Therefore, not all inclusive. In many cases only some of the excursions are included but if you want a premium excursion, even on an ultralux cruise, you pay an additional fee.

    So compared to Royal Star Class which is All Inclusive for everything...how does it compare price wise vs. value. On Royal Star we never paid for upgraded drinks, they just waived it if over the 13-14 dollar limit. Dining was really unlimited...at Chops I ordered a steak and up charged lobster which was no charge and the waiter asked how many steaks and how many lobsters I wanted....yike! The gratutity is tricky...so Star Class you dont pay and they say its included, but Royal also does not pay the same daily rate, so the crew loses out and that is kinda crappy thing to do to them. Royal sells me an all inclusive product and then does not kick in their part. Internet is decent and you get one device per person. One of the best perks is showing at at 1030am and onboard in the room by 11am to get settled and at the bar or pool or lunch by 1130...its like a full first day for sure!

      Hey Ninna, it's not my place to be lavish or cheap with tipping, especially, when a cruise line has told me it is all included and they are taking care of their staff. It is my belief a company knows how their employees are performing better than me or any other customer/guest. They could be giving me amazing service while harassing or being horrible to work with in the background. I don't like to pay on their performance because I don't know truly how they perform. I only know a split second of time. This does not mean if someone goes above and beyond I do not advocate for them, put their name in the survey and brag to their manager about how great they are. I give the company the feedback they need to continue managing their performance and compensation.

The ones that make your holiday special, remember they all work hard almost 24/7, and are away from there home for at least 7 months. Hey Mark, I know this is a controversial topic and I completely recognize that MANY folks that you mentioned and MANY folks that you did not mention are working tireless to ensure I have a vacation. Celebrity is telling me they are paying their employees (gratuities included) and I do not need to decide how much or little more money they should make on-top of this amount. However, this does not mean I cannot still advocate for an amazing individual to get a pay raise, promotion, or find a new job opportunity by bragging to their manager, writing their name a million times in a survey, and talking about how good the cruise line is because of their staff. This way, the decision of compensation and employee performance management still resides with folks who know best, the employer.

There is little arbitrage, though some, between different re-sellers of cruises. From what I have found, the choice to use a Travel Agent or go direct comes down to how much control do you want to have over your booking. Do you want to call the Cruise Line and tell them to lower your price or change your cabin without a middle man or are you good just telling your travel agent and trusting they get it done.
