You're welcome man! I've actually had so many requests just like your own so I appreciate it! Because it was a top request, I knew that I had to put this game in my rotation. 🤩
i had the oppotunity to experience half life 2 for the first time in vr. It was one of the most immersive non-vr vr games i have played. I am now a half life fanboy lol
Would definitely reccomend installing some of the iron sight mods through the game's steam workshop, the ones making the front sights red. It's a simple change that doesnt compromise the vanilla feel of the game.
I’m playing through Half Life 1 in VR before I take this on. Not watching this video yet, to avoid spoilers, but just dropping a comment and a thumbs up to help the channel!
@@beyond_xen Only stumbled onto you channel a couple of days ago. You make very entertaining videos and I've been binge watching, keep up the good work. I would love to see you try Dr Beef's Quest standalone mod for Return to Castle Wolfenstein - it's great fun, fairly easy to install and looks better than many standalone games available for the Quest ecosystem.
See, this is already the second game you are playing before I do. Been into VR for years, easily played a triple digit number of games, but neither Alien Isolation nor Half-Life 2 made the cut yet. So I won't watch these to keep spoilers to a minimum. Especially since I haven't played *any* Half-Life game yet except for Alyx, gotta get to it at some point.
Oh nice, that's unexpected that you started so early with HL2VR, but I'm glad. I don't know if you're using it already because I just started the video, but just to remind you - HL2VR Essentials Modpack makes this game even better.
Thanks, yeah I hadn't planned on playing this so early, but with the many requests and decreasing views on other series I decided it would be best to add HL2VR in the rotation. :) Thank you for reminding me about the Essentials Modpack. I forgot about that but seem to remember something said about that previously. I'll have to check into it.

Ok thanks. I got the Essentials Modpack installed as well as the zDak Total Textures pack that AShok0 recommended. I just hope that these don't do that gross stuff to Alyx. I'm going to wait to react to the textures (hopefully installed correctly) for when I do my next playthrough.
@@beyond_xen I'm glad you were able to install it and I hope it works out-of-the-box for you (I remember that I had to do some tweaks and I think I had to install some specific .Net framework from Microsoft site because of some error, but nothing hard that googling answers won't solve and generally all the instruction You have on github). I'm not sure what You mean by gross stuff but I didn't notice anything inappriopriate or something, but basically on that github page You got list of all the mods in this modpack. Dude. Congrats for the great videos of VR games. You know, I never get tired of playing Half Life saga, games since many years ago. When the VR boom began, it was a dream come true for me to play Half Life games in VR. A textures MOD is highly recommended. You can find some good mods in the official workshop for HL2. You can even bring assets from HL Alyx to HL2 VR. In addition, you can use reshade mods to enhance visual qualities. By the way, you can also play Black Mesa in VR. Peace.
Thank you! I'll be trying a mod pack hopefully soon once I get the Essentials mod downloaded from GitHub. It's taking forever. That will be amazing to experience it all in Higher textures!
Nice video! I fking love to watch to you playing new vr games, I am really hyped to see you play Red Matter 2, Into the radius, vertigo remastered and vertigo 2, the walking dead saints and sinners and many other vr games. Btw, I played Black mesa (half life 1 remake) in VR, half life 2 vr, the episodes in vr and alyx, and all are amazing experiences in VR
Thanks, it's cool to know what you enjoy seeing! I didn't know you could play Black Mesa in VR. I really enjoyed that one when I played it flat for the channel.
you should invest in htc base stations (2), valve knuckle controlers and a htc tracker. the tracker for tracking you headset with knuckle controlers on the base station. im not sure if you know about the controlers, its finger tracking. my setup is HTC base station with HTC Vive pro/pro2 (I use pro1 because of the oled panels, LCD just washes black. the blacks and colors in oled are DAY AND NIGHT!) with knuckle controlers. for me that its the ultimate setup for vr
Would these work with a Quest 3 or is this HTC only? I'd want to be able to play Oculus games too. Although I think I'm getting ready to buy a Quest 3 in the near future anyway - fingers crossed.
@@Mind_ConTroll full flat2VR mods are much better than UEVR. Even with a 4090 the games tend to run pretty poor, the 3D effect is pretty bad, and getting a good controller config can be a royal pain in the ass. HL2 VR on the other hand is S-tier VR content.
@@poundtown808 Yes, and full intercourse is better than a handjob, but sometimes we make due with the lesser choice because the better option doesn't exist
@@poundtown808Yeah, it's almost like trying to force a game to run in a way it wasn't intended to be ran is a bad idea or something. heya buddy! i palyed hl2 VR and ill tell you this, the weapon reloads are cool because you have to actually reload them properly and such, and a little tip if you have 1 bullet left you dont need to re-cock the gun which is a need detail! as in normal hl2 its the same reload no matter how many or little bullets!
Steam also has a vr mod for the original half life. Its not by the same people of the HL2 mods, but it would be cool to see your playthrough of that mod as well.
Depending on your GPU, you could probably push the resolution to 150 or 200% for this game on the Steam VR settings. It's amazing how something that would take just a few minutes playing flat, can turn into an hour in VR. This game took me a bit more than double the time it normally takes me to beat it normally flatscreen lol.
30:19 you didn’t get that achievement. You just got one part of it. It shows that every time you find a lamda cache and you’ll notice it tally’s them up until you find all of them, then you get the achievement. You made the same mistake when playing the regular version of Half Life 2. That little achievement box popped up each time you found a lamda cache and you said “why do I keep getting the same achievement?”. You weren’t getting it. it was just telling you that you made progress towards getting it.
You should probably check settings, for example you can sprint just with a stick click instead of double tapping. There's also "physical hands" setting which may sound nice, but in reality it kinda janky imo. Also there's one trick for vehicles: before you get in, sit down on the floor. It may look silly, but can give a bit more immersion and maybe decrease motion sickness if you'll have it.
Okay thanks I'll have to check those settings out. No problem sitting down - sounds like a good idea. I did when I played the Jeff chapter in Half Life Alyx.
Another vr game I'd love to see you play is Boneworks. It's my favorite vr game, one of my fav games in general. To me, it's more like the half life 2 of vr than half life alyx.
I assume you're aware you can play the original Half-Life directly on the Quest. If you're unfamiliar, basically the Team Beef devs released a free port. You just need to copy some files from your PC to the Quest. They've got free ports for ALL the 90's DOOM engine games. They've got free ports for the 90's Jedi Knight titles, and a bunch more. You just need to copy over some files. Their ports have a gui that let's you load mod too. I'm happy to explain further if anyone has questions.

If you're not aware, Meta is releasing the Quest 3S really soon and it is expected to cost $300-$400. It has the same chipset as the Q3 but uses the Q2's fresnel lenses (the Q3 uses pancake lenses). The 3S will also have color pass through and be able to do MR like Q3. All that said, if your budget allows I recommend the Q3 as it is a much lighter device. But the 3S is very likely going to be the biggest selling headset ever--there's a slight chance Meta will give away a copy of Batman Arkham Shadows, and that game is being positioned to be a system-seller with millions of Arkham fans really pumped about that game.
