    NatureHike has really been making waves in the outdoor space. I've purchased the huge 8 person tent and their lightweight backpacking camp chair through reviews Luke has made, but I'm very impressed with the quality for the price. More importantly, I am grateful for the honest and accurate reviews he has made on his channel. Thank you, sir!

    I have maintained for years that self inflating air mattresses must be stored fully inflated. Prolonged compression will eventually degrade the inner foam. I only deflate mine when I am packing to go on an adventure. Cheers from Winnipeg.

      This is true. Unfortunately for me since I live in apartment I have no space to do this. Must store packed up tight. My loss. But good advice for those who have space

      When any material is compressed or stretched, what is actually happening, is imagine all the atoms are little circles touching each other, when you pull them apart, or push them together, they displace nearby atoms. depending on the distance displaced, and amount of time, these lattice deformations can become permanent, and the displaced atoms can never reclaim their original positions. this is why tarps stretch, and other things deform permanently and warp under pressure. but anyways i agree. it's funny, i have a ranger mat and had a piece of gorilla tape on the end where i tie it up to protect it from indentations. but the part where the tape was, created a permanent divot the exact depth and size of the tape which sits there forever now. 😂

    I have an Exped Megamat 10 about ten years old that looks almost the same in both dimensions and the red color. Even the material you describe as a soft stretch. If it has the R value this has it's over 8. I'm spoiled and don't think I could camp on anything less, especially since I'm getting older.

    I've had the LostHorizon version from amazon for a month or so (same jet engine air pump included, and the mattress is an almost exact clone down to the valves and storage/inflation bag). So damn comfortable and easy to pick up and put out the way (less pain to move around than a plain air mattress.) If you are in a hurry to inflate; roll out the bed and do two bag fulls from the inflation bag; that gets it to the firmness I prefer. Build quality on mine appears to be good, but you know how hit or miss some of the clones can be. We will see how it holds up once it starts getting cold.

    • @Summitperry

    I bought two pads like this from Backcountry (Stoic) almost two years ago. They are awesome. Many brands are selling them now. Not all of them use the 360 valve (which i love!). I wouldn't need the pump. I open it up when i put it in my tent, then sometime before bed, i give it 2 or three short breaths and close it, later I often carefully let out some air as im laying on it, for maximum comfort. I use a full fitted sheet on the double and a sleeping bag liner on the single for feel and cleanliness. I store them unrolled, up against a wall, with the valves wide open. I only put them in the stuff sacks for transport. R value is definitely high, almost too high.

    • @NurseyPooh59
      @NurseyPooh59 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have the backcountry stoic brand also. I use my Ryobi to put some air and also to suck out air. Makes it easier to roll up. Cannot do the knees like Luke.

    I have a 4.5 inch Natures Nest in my RTT and it sleeps very well. I bought a cheap air pump that lets me inflate and deflate very quickly. FSR now offers a 6 inch air mattress but the Natures nest is as good as it gets.

    It took 2 days for my NatureHike mattress to self inflate. It was usable after 1 day but it still wasn't fully inflated. That's why the air pump is included, IMO. It is very comfortable even on 1 day. My use cases are in my RAVV4 and in my tent. I will be using it over the next couple of weeks including a cross country trip.

  • @jyo8914
    @jyo8914 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I bought a similar sleeping pad/air mattress from Lost Horizon. That one is 4.5" thick and was similar in price. All of the same qualities and fill valve. I really love this air mattress. It has survived a lot of nights. Super comfortable and easy to dial in a setting. The air pump can be used to inflate or deflate the mattress. The latter is handy when trying to stuff it back into the carrying bag. Ours is a queen size, so it's a bit more of a handful to deal with. It is leaps and bounds better than the cheapie $50 air mattresses you get at Big5 etc. One big bonus to the Lost Horizon mattress is that it is Coyote Brown.

  • @SnowyAspenHills
    @SnowyAspenHills หลายเดือนก่อน

    We always use a sheet on our Exped duo, there is no need for a sleeping bag underneath as its R value is 8.3 we just have a two zinvle down sleeping bags opened up to form a duvet that is in two layers so easy to adjust for heat regulation. Flextail pump used in vacuum mode makes deflation about 4 times quicker.
    The cost of the naturehike is amazing value.

    @BillWalker3rd หลายเดือนก่อน

    Great Find! As you test further, the “cotton” outer bag is made to “inflate?” I’m not sure that’s enough info. I hope you play with that feature, to help us figure out how we could use that bag. I assumed at first it was a dry bag, but clearly cotton wouldn’t be used for that, nor would cotton allow for holding air inside the bag very well….The air pump may be a hint but I’d love to know “wassup” with that. Otherwise, I’d consider buying it. For years now we’ve used the large inflatable Queen-sized mattresses for better and often for worse….I’d pay more to have something smaller and better built that is comfortable for “everyone” to use for a couple nights in a row.

    • @MrFTP
      @MrFTP หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      He shows the connector at the bottom of the bag... just like other pump bags, you connect it to the pad, fill the bag with air, then roll and squeeze the bag to force the air into the pad.... then open the. Ag to refill with air and repeat.

    • @BillWalker3rd
      @BillWalker3rd หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MrFTP OH, Ok…you think it is a “pump bag” for inflating the self-inflating sleeping pad….that makes sense…sorta. I was wondering if they were thinking it was a pillow of some sort, but your thought is better….it’s also now even funnier that they claim it is “self-inflating” since they include TWO alternative methods to waiting around for it to self-inflate in a couple minutes…thanks!

    Skyemac now sells an "Upgrade Double Pad" that comes with a pump that fits flush into a compartment built into the side of the pad, that secures shut. It inflates if you push it one way and deflates if you push it the other way, and sucks it down quite effectively. The carry sack is plenty large to fit it in after compressed and strapped. Still takes some strength and dedication to roll it up.
