      Using an exothermic reaction to heat food is far from junk. It's actually genius. Mixing a chemical with water to create sustained temperatures of 200+ degrees is genius level. If I'm ever out camping by myself for a day or 2, I don't need my stove or all the set up and cleaning required to use it.

    • @ageofgaslightenment

      @@Joe_And_Nina_Pierce it's not new technology. It's basic, well known chemistry.

    Thank you for sharing the expo items. The lava gel cook system looks promising. For backpacking purposes, it would be even better if you had salt packets with directions for adding water, rather than carry excess water weight around for the duration of the hikes. Better yet, give the salt water ratios and leave us to decide how to carry and dispense that as needed. One last point, $2 per meal in addition to food costs is a bit pricey. Maybe eliminating the salt water packets will bring down the costs. Happy camping! 🤗

    Light weight multi functional items that combines items I'm already using is direction I hope more companies take. One handle for a spoon and tooth brush, that's thinking like a backpacker. More of that, but the toothbrush heads wouldn't make sense unless they sold replacements

      The multi-use handle is neat, but the screwing stuff in part is a bit dicey.
      The point of a long handle is so that stuff on your fingers doesn't go in your mouth, but now you are using your fingers on the stuff that goes in your mouth to screw them on...
      I suppose you could make sure to always use a clean cloth to touch the stuff you are screwing on, but that does make me a bit less enthusiastic for the product.

    I'm familiar with MRE heaters and Barocook. The Lava Gel looks like a simpler way to heat soup or a can of something else for one person. For the price I'll probably get one for my prep kit.

    • @LavaGelOven
      @LavaGelOven 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You are correct. Lava Gel is a much better product than the old MRE heaters and Barocook uses that same old technology. The old technology was an uncontrolled chemical reaction, meaning all of the energy was released at the same time. Lava Gel tempers it so max temp is 205° F and it holds that for 10 minutes and then slowly falls off. The old tech would get to 300° F Plus and then die, so you use the residual heat from the water to heat food. Very inefficient compared to Lava gel.

    • @CroakerOutdoors
      @CroakerOutdoors หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Right. The original intention was single use but you can refill. Same with the butane canisters. The one caveat is how many times is safe to refill before there is an issue or user error causing a valve issue and failure. I actually like it.

    • @lyfandeth
      @lyfandeth หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The recycling centers want to see that hole so they are not crudhing live cans of explosive gas.
      You throw them out because there is no valvd on the tank, just a rubber ball that plugs the stem. After some grit or dirt gets on the ball, or the ball cracks, the canister leaks and when stored in a confined space is likely to explode.
      The interior is not very rustproof, either.

    I have had the same bushknife and mostly all the same gear since about 1980. I see nothing in this"show" video that is even as good as my gear. With some bush , field, and, camp gear, there IS NO better mousetrap. Dont be fooled by things like a 500 dollar knife, thinking if it costs that much, it has to be great, better than cheaper ones. As far as knives, there are 3 best knives for you---1. The one that sharpens well. 2. The one that holds a good edge. And, 3. ( most important one)...the One you have with you. Safe Travels.

    • @LavaGelOven

      It is similar but not the same. It is patented in almost every major GDP.

      The Japanese chemical you mentioned in Barocook is calcium oxide, which has a pH of 12.5, which is considered a dangerous caustic. It also does not "gel" or contain the water, rather it creates a boiling slurry which is a potential chemical burn if spilled. It is also very inconsistent due to its nature, being "slaked quick lime," an ingredient in cement, mined from the earth, from various quarries, at various times of the year with different purities .These inconsistencies create problems in the heating cycle from lot to lot.
      As to the temperature, food can only absorb heat at a certain rate; you could apply a blowtorch to the food, and it would still only get hot at the rate it can readily absorb the heat. Lava Gel has been designed to match the heat input curve of typical foods matching it's thermal "heat-sink" quotient. The energy output from Lava Gel will continue for up to 45 minutes to give you flexibility in your eating schedule.
      Please feel free to use Barocook, but I encourage you to try the Lava Gel Oven side-by-side and give us your honest opinion. We appreciate your sincere interest!
