Seriously though: AoE2's depiction of them is a pet peeve: The Mamelukes were cavalrymen who rode horses, not camels. Arabs as a whole by this period hardly fought on camels anyway!
Didn't expect they beat elephant archers
Makelukes' bonus damage against calvary helps a lot in shredding through the elephants' massive HP.
Ele archers have zero melee armor

Yeah elephant archers need a buff, it's unreasonable for an Indian archer having a 6 foot elephation to have the same range, reload and attack as an Indian foot archer ;)

@Into Comedy Funny how well micro'd Mangudai can beat nearly anything in the game. It is like rock paper scissor nuke.
@Into Comedy Ok, in a sandbox like this where x mangudai go against x elephants sure. But some of the best pro players (Hera, The Viper) just love mangudai and they said they're broken and have proven they can destroy entire armies with just these archer boys. Elephants are too slow to take on mangudai (same resources and time considered) and genoese crossbows are just underwhelming and easily countered with trash.
LOL that elephant ownage was shocking after so many victories. Pikes own both of those units though so it works out.
Mamelukes lost only to Siege Onagers, Heavy camel riders, Imperial Camel Riders, Cataphracts, Ballista elephant (would say was even this), war elephants, teutonic knights.
One of the most powerful unique units if we dont consider micro (with that mangudai and conquistadores are broken)
Which fits because it's also one of the most expansive. As long as those test don't include ressources the only thing they tend to tell you is which unit cost the most.
Mamelukes would smoke TK, war elephants, heavy camel riders, imperial camel riders, cataphracts even mangudai and conquistadores if microed properly.

Can actually beat the War elephant with a touch of micro. But are countered by Camels as well
Countered so cost effectively by halberdiers (assuming they can close) and skirmishers - although with the price tag a lot of units will be cost effective considering the weighting of gold
more archers better britons can beat saracens quite easily. halbadiers and long bow or arbalests with that range is deadly against them.
Every archer and camel civs can beat Saracens
Cataphracts, massed longbows, chuko nu, plumed,Genoese xbows rattan archers, camel archers, kipchak, mangudai, imperial camel, gbeto, massed karambit and many more
teuton knights are too ez for saracens same with war elephant.
They are one of the best of the best units in the game...but my god they are expensive

@@MindonHighD hmmm in a real game no, because they are too slow, for that they are weaks but if they can touch the Mameluke the mameluke are die...But all fast infatry can won, (except the Karambit) Like Eagles (Aztecs and Mayans only) Catapharcts because they are the most OP chavalary, the Shotels, the Samurai and more (i dont remember all) but obiously whit other units making protection to the Samurai (for example) but the Eagles don't need that, the best strategy in european civs are Paladín or Knight with pikeman, and the American civs are just Eagles more Kamayuk (incas) Jaguar warrior or Pikeman (Aztecs) and Plumed archer (Mayans)

@MikeEmpires - Age of Empires II These simulations would be more accurate if instead of having equal numbers of units fighting, it was equal worth in cost... Let me give you an example: 20 Mamelukes against 20 long bowmen are obviously going to crush them (strictly in a UU Match up with no supporting units.) BUT Mameluke are 55 food and 85 gold a total for 140. Elite longbow men are 35 wood 45 gold, a total of 80. So 20 Mameluke is 2,800 resources, where as 20 longbow men are 1600. So its 2,800 of resources vs 1600 who do you think is going to win? A more accurate battle between these two UU would be 20 Mamelukes (2,800 resources.) Vs 35 long bowmen which is also 2,800 resources. Your match up of Cataphracts vs Mamelukes is good because they almost cost the same so the numbers being even makes sense.
He is already considering taking cost into the matchup, it’s just he is doing number matchup first

There is only about 3 or 4 units to beat the Mamelukes in equal numbers, but the problem is, the few that won against them, wouldn’t have won if the Mameluke player micro them even a little bit..

Templars are French. Teutonic Knights are German, so I'm afraid you're quite incorrect. Besides, in real Saladin kinda beat the Templars in the long-run (he did lose a couple battles, like Montgisard, but he did eventually take Jerusalem, so yeah).

Cataphracts instead of having 0 Cavalry Armor have like +12 (+16) Cavalry Armor meaning they actually negate most bonus damage, which is why they can be so hard to counter when massed since even Halbs lose 1/2 their attack against them. Mamelukes only do something like +9 (+12) so their bonus is completely negated.

Don't really see the point of comparing them with archers with equal numbers. Sure, they destroy units that cost about a third of their price but by the time you get 15 mameluke, your opponent will have 40 longbowmen

What are you talking about, cataphracts do not take bonus damage from mamlukes. In a real situation mamlukes win everyday against same number of cataphracts, even more of them
