I like the idea of a people forced to subsist on an island surrounded by volcanos, becoming super violent out of necessity, and then conquering the rest of the planet the second they escape their hellish starting location.
This is basically like if that one native island that shoots literally anything that comes near it, including boats, drones, etc. with hundreds of arrows, suddenly decided to take over the world... and somehow succeeded.
Is it even possible? you couldn’t build a mountain tunnel because you’d need a land tile on the other side of the mountain, and you can’t airdrop directly onto a capital.
@@Idontknowwhattocallmyself I think it's close enough to land that you could technically flip the city with loyalty too if you placed your cities as close as possible to it and built up their population a lot.
@@conmacmara2743from what I recall, a bunch of boats(I think danish?) got stuck because the water around them froze, so a bunch French cavalry tied cloth to their horses hooves to quieten the sound of their hooves against the ice, ran across the ice and took the ships. I got a diplo victory in my first game and felt jipped. I immediately loaded a few turns back and sabotaged the statue of liberty. The science win was much more satisfying. I have to go out of my way to not accidently win diplomatically.
If you had been able to found a religion and unlock Dromons earlier, you could have gone for an early religious victory. But with that start, it's amazing you won at all. Also, for the record, Dromons are effectively just quadriremes with extra range when you are attacking city defenses. They are amazing against units of any kind, but cities are not their forte.
the extra range makes it their forte. 2 range vs 1 range is a massive buff when swarming a city because you can have far more units attacking the city at once then.
In one of the civ games I played with friends we had a map with 2 big continents and a 3-tile triangle island between them (0 prod, 0 science, 0 culture, only food there). The game ended with civilizations from both continents showering each other with nukes. That island was the only peaceful place)
10:31 I have mixed feelings about the science victory in Civilization 6. Having to complete multiple lengthy steps is convenient when I’m trying to stop someone else’s victory. But it’s annoying when I’m trying to complete each step while fighting off everyone else.
Yeah, but what would you suggest? I doubt you'd want somebody to just silently finish some production queue and win the game with no prior notice. Or even worse, just finish some tech and win.
@@conatus1306 Civilization Revolution: "China has discovered Space Flight, they may be attempting a science victory!" (That's the first warning) Then all players could see the first space ship part being launched and at that point I would know start figuring out how to stop China or start building my space ship faster. Civ 6 has the extra step of allocating enough resources to build one part after so many turns. Then waiting more turns to build that part. Then the other parts. And that is still only for the satellite (1st science victory step).

Have you ever built the Greek fire boat?
I once set up a game in a Mediterranean map with sea civs and Epic speed and the Dromon was awesome. I conquered Rome with three-tile-range Dromons.
Yes it actually helped me win some coastal cities. But not as good as the cavalry units
Not since civ 3
No but I've bought them from barb camps.
Really nice +4 era score!
