A crappy Asus VN279 - Terrible color accuracy and viewing angle combined with a poorly constructed frame that enabled a mayfly to crawl right between panel and front, resulting in something that looks like a cluster of dead pixels and is driving me crazy ever since... Then again it was cheap when I bought it some years ago ;-)
Trying to decide for a new monitor for almost a year now, but still can't decide if I want to go for higher refresh rate or 4k...

Me here on my IPS 27" 60hz 2015 monitor and keeping it until it dies... The best TV in my house is a Samsung LED bought 13 years ago in 2008... Don't fix it if it ain't broke, and especially if they are still the best in your home (at least 6 more tv's and 3 more monitors that are much newer, but, not better). I admit, I don't game like I used to when I bought this monitor. If I still played fast paced FPS games for hours a day, I'd probably want the 'best'. But, this monitor is amazing and lets me game (I really just play CS:GO and Among US now a days, maybe some Diablo). So, judge your needs and save your money. Buy cheap if you don't need speed. Or, buy speed and super quality image if you need that (and hope what you bought lasts for years and years). I like to stay a few years behind the newest hardware. The 2 year old stuff works great and why spend the extra on the newest. Only way I would do that is if I was 18 again in 2002 and doing gaming tournaments. Figure your needs and go from there!
I have 2 vehicles too... A daily car (2008 Civic) and a winter and road trip vehicle (2012 FJ Cruiser). Let your items serve their purpose. No reason to replace until they don't server their need.

One thing that is worth mentioning is that if you are going to buy a monitor for gaming, you have to take into account what's your graphics card and how much it can handle. I thought I could buy any monitor I want but then I realized that everything should be based on the graphics card. In my case is RTX 2060. Am I wrong?

So have access to TN, IPS and VA panels and my experience has found I prefer VA for a gaming panel due to the higher contrast and color pop. Concerning pixel density I hate that people push it as an absolute. Distance from monitor in viewing can have a huge effect on how the image looks. Also an issue comes into play is the eyesight of the user. As an older gamer I find that a 24" 1080P is just a bit to small for me to see easily. moving to 27" 1080P my games look amazing and I can see everything on the screen clearly. I also move up 1440 with a 32" monitor which for me is my perfect gaming monitor. I have a 32" 1440P 144hz VA panel gaming monitor and I see no ghosting, have amazing color contrast and can easily see everything on the screen.
My point is not all of these points covered as absolutes and picking the perfect monitor is often a very personal choice.

So bottom line, does anyone on here want to take pity on a confused shopper and share a recommendation for a specific monitor for photo-editing from a 2019 MacBook Pro? Thanks to this video I think I know what specs I want, but reviews vary among the available monitors SO MUCH, I just don’t know what to think. Thanks in advance!

    Hey Tom,
Nice video and it helped me a lot so thank you for that. My only criticism would be that it'd have been great if you had a seperate video aimed at gaming and a seperate one for productivity.
There was a lot of information in this video that I could have done without because I am sitting on the productivity side of the coin and it would have been great to have a video aimed specifically for this use case.
Other than that though, thanks for the help!

Great video reviewing detailing a lot. I guess one question I am left asking is if it makes a difference if a monitor is USB c compatible versus thunderbolt and do I risk any charging issues if I choose a 60 watt monitor rather than a 90 watts considering my laptop may require 90 watts worth of power delivery ( i.e. a 16" Macbook Pro)?

I personally know the basics of the basics, but there are some that are just numbers or a wierd sentence in some games and I'm like: WTF is that?!... then I fiddle with it and don't see a difference and would like to know what they're doing :D Thanks.
